Kotur Resort 2013 Clutches

Posted on August 29, 2012

Girls, we just haven’t had a good accessories session in a while, now have we? Let’s all gather ’round and discuss the super-embellished, from sassy to sci-fi, with a couple of stops for crazy along the way, Kotur Resort 2013 clutches. Fun? Not Fun? We think a couple of them look like smart phone cases and none of them are for a night at the opera, but some of them could make a fun little bit of punctuation for an otherwise boring outfit.

So, let’s hear it:

My vote’s a YAY, these are so fun!

    • DeborahJozayt

The glitter one can potentially look like you’re carrying a bag of gnats from far away, too.

    • agreed; that’s exactly what i was going to say (but i would have added ‘that i bought at a craft fair’)

  • YAY except for the first 2. I still wonder how comfortable the embellished ones would be to carry.

  • lilibetp

Really?  I think #5 would be perfect for Madame Butterfly!

    • I agree, It looks like one of my grandma’s musical boxes covered in sugar flowers… that’s a good thing, I promise!

  • lilibetp

Meanwhile, these are adorable, and I seriously covet several of them.  Including #5.

  • YEA. Very much statement/pop pieces. I like the one with the bug 🙂

  • I like 5, 6, 8, and 9. But my friends make fun of me because I tend to like “Easter purses”, so I’ll turn voting over to accessory goddesses.

  • Dunno, some of these are a bit too Judith Lieber for my taste.

    • kschwarting

Now that’s damning with faint praise.  Oy.

  • mjude

i’m sorry to say a big NAY for me.

  • Sharyn McHenry

I LOVE them, except for the last two, which look like Clinique promos.

    •  I thought the exact same thing. “It’s bonus time! Here’s an incredibly ugly shade of lipstick and weird facial serums in a semi-ugly cosmetic case you already have four of!”

  • If I had the one with the pink goo in it, I’d spend all evening tipping it back and forth, mesmerized. Maybe it’s an anti-anxiety clutch to make the high-strung celebs get in touch with their inner Zen.

    • TVKimmy

I love the pink goo clutch. Maybe it soothes me. lol

      •  I love it, too, but I also have an inordinate fondness for lava lamps and those oil/colored water doohickeys that therapists always seem to have on their desks.

        • angryparsnip

Love the pink one too ! only problem I would be playing with it all day !

          cheers,  parsnip

          • JMB_edits

            Me too!

  • JimMcC

Ooh. Some of these are dreadful. Bags one and two look like they’ll be a nightmare when they crack a leak. But bag 3 is adorable. Still, I have to average these out, and that means overall, they’re a NAY.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Why wouldn’t any of them be suitable for a night at the opera? They’re fashionable clutches, obviously well made. They might not hold your goggles, but they’re lovely nonetheless. /annoyance at preconceptions

  • JasmineAM

I’ll take one of each, thanks! Please donate to the cause :).

  • LadyCelia

They wouldn’t be for a night at the opera because they’re spring and summer look bags, and opera is fall and winter.  But there are some sublime designs for a summer look evening out.

    •  I was not aware opera had a season. All those years of music school were wasted! 😉

      • LadyCelia

Everyplace that I’ve ever lived, the performance season (in halls, vs. say, a park setting), was always in the fall and winter.

    • Lilithcat

Opera is most definitely not just fall and winter.

Two-thirds of the Chicago Opera Theatre’s season is spring/summer.  Then there’s Santa Fe and Glyndebourne.  The Spoleto Festival.  Arena di Verona.  Bayreuth.  Glimmerglass.

I could go on and on.

      • LadyCelia

Well then, they’d be perfect.  Where I lived, it was a cool weather thing.

  • YEA!

  • Daisy James

Delightful! Though, if I got the one with the oil and water on the outside, I would spend the entire evening staring at it with my mouth hanging slightly open, and people would stop inviting me places. So I should probably not.

  • VioletFem

Definitely YEAH. This bags are whimsical yet still elegant. I especially like the first 3.

  • Sara__B

Yea, even though sassy clutches that are intended for only a season or two of use and cost from $400 to $1000 are beyond both my budget and my comprehension.

  • Sara LaBatt

Yay, impractical but I love looking at them!  Love the second one with the oil/water combo, that takes me back.

  • Lisa Kramp

YEA!!!! I covet all of them! And I agree with lilbet

  • lehen

    yay!!  so fun!

  • S_Swift

I kind of love them. That lava lamp-y one is fabulous. The fifth one down looks like a Pinterest project with Sculpey clay but I’m ok with it.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Yes.  They look like little works of art.

  • j_anson

Mostly Yay. The second one is never going to actually look good outside of a studio photograph, but they’re likeable in general.

  • theblondette

I find the shapes a bit yawnsome… That super-duper classic clutch shape only really appeals to me when it looks old-school glamorous. But that random prejudice aside, these are quite fun. The perspex-y ones with glitter and goo in them crack me up, I would totes carry them. The super-embellished ones would be a complete pain to carry, literally, and whilst bags can be impractical in their size, waterproofness etc a clutch should at least fit comfortably in the hand! Plus the multicoloured floral one looks like someone got overenthused with a hot glue gun and plastic hair supplies from Claires. Nuh-uh. I would also carry the tweedy one with the insect – it’s a bit prissy but sort of knowingly so.

  • rissa42210

  • EEKstl

Yea!  The first two lucite ones are my faves.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    Yea!  Fun and pretty.  🙂

  • alyce1213

YEA.  Love them, fun little works of art.

  • YAY! And you could totally take that white one to the opera.

  • snarkykitten

My inner 8 year old is clamoring for the one with the pink goo

  • Hot glue gun and acid on a Saturday night=this collection.

  • YEA overall, but some of these look like a grade school child’s craft projects.

  • AlexisPayne

Yay, these are fun and poppy

  • Anathema_Device

Yea, even though most aren’t my cuppa. My fave is the 7th one from the top, the white/silver embossed flower. The first two look like perfume bottles, not that there is anything wrong with that.

  • I’d say YAY. They’re fun and whimsical, and would be cute for a night out on the town.

  • annrr

Yay! My favorites are 4, 6,7,8,9. I can think of a ton of daytime events I’d could carry something like this too.

  • fursa_saida

    LOVE. Especially the first one.

  • Joe J

For the most part, they’re cute, although I think the simpler ones are more sophisticated and the embellished ones are a little TOO whimsical for an adult.  Still, cute – I would buy one or two of the frillier ones for each of my three nieces, since they’re 13, 12, and 9.  If they didn’t cost the same as a month’s mortgage apiece, that is.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Nay.  Some are ok, but if they didn’t have the big price tag, you’d see these at TJ Maxx and cringe…

  • MilaXX

yea although I only like 1, 3 and 7, i can see a lot of these working with the right outfit

  • I think these are all pretty hideous. I have to go with Nay.

  • hughman

I think the snow globe one needs a little Anna Wintour with a top hat and a carrot nose in it.

    • formerlyAnon

If we could efficiently turn your occasional  brilliant suggestions into product, you’d be quite the moneymaker.

  • CassieLee22

  • marilyn

    They are all great!!!

  • Spicytomato1

YEA, especially the one with the yellow daisies. It evokes memories of my 70s childhood.

  • Eh, kind of juvenile looking, but Yay for the 14 and under set.

  • l_c_ann

I always loved my ‘toy’ with the two colored oils that made wave actions.  I wonder where we stored it?

The clutches are cute, but not functional.  All the frou frou will just pick up dirt or get knocked off by accidents of living real rough and tumble lives.

    • Alas! Those things are usually oil and water, and the water eventually evaporates, from my experience. T.T

  • afabulous50

  • miagain

    cute cute cute…

  • Yay from me! I love the lava lamp one.

  • MissAnnieRN

Nay. The power of suggestion. All I see are iPhone cases.

  • I predict damaged phones and ruined dresses with those liquid filled ones.
These all feel a little juniors to me, so NAY for me. Maybe one of the Fannings or other teenybopper stars and starlets can rock ’em. I don’t know anyone else who could probably afford the likely pricepoint of these and actually pull it off.
I also predict immediate knockoffs coming out at Forever 21 and possibly H&M.

    • formerlyAnon

Yes on the knock offs.  In fact, I KNOW my daughter had a cheap flexible plastic bag of some sort with the oil/water effect, back when she was about 7, so I’m sure the production lines are already humming.

  • Are these being sold at Payless?

  • Jessi03

Yea!  And as an opera singer, I would totally carry them to the opera.

  • kimmeister

Mostly YEA.  #5 reminds me of, I forget the word for it, when people reenact scenes of famous paintings.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

YEA! And I mean “YAY!” Really fun. I could see Selena Gomez carrying most of these for occasions ranging from hanging around town to attending the Kids’ Choice Awards. I’d carry the last green one, the white floral, the purple tweed, and I can even see carrying the pink lava one on the right day.

  • Oh I love the 5th one down, it reminds me of my grandma. She had lots of pretty little things with flowers on them.

  • another_laura

hmmmmm.  Generally yay but with a touch of meh.  I would like to see the lava lamp one in motion!

  • Squarah

FUN! I love the pink bubbles one. Is 27 too old for that kind of thing?

  • Vanja

Nay, they’re too girlie for me.

  • YAY!

  • ChaquitaPhilly

They look a bit forced to me. Everyone be HAPPY… Damn it!

  • Joyce VG

    YEA!  Fun!

  • Judy_J

Some yea, some nay.  A split decision.

  • I LOVE these. I actually heart the clear ones, but that may be as a result of my oil sticker collection of 1984. Regardless, these are the types of clutches I’d choose if I suddenly became a rich person who left their house often, in designer clothes. I only wonder if perhaps #5 is not sturdy enough to be handled. And the last one makes me want to make a knock-off immediately.

  • Kate4queen

Yea! I like the first one and the multicolored roses one, oh and the second from last one. Oh what the hell, I’ll have them all… 🙂

Just checked the pre-order website and they start around $400, which sounds quite reasonable when I just had to pay out $195 for one of my kids college math books…

  • lalahartma

  • Pennymac

Mostly YAY. The first two, not so much, but starting with the purple one with the sparkly bug, I just like these more and more.

  • andreawey

most of them are cheap and gaudy looking, the bottom two an maybe the one with the whit flower fabric are okay, of course I don’t get that expensive purse thing anyway, none of them look like they’re worth the money……..

  • Susan Crawford

I’ll say YAY . . . although to be honest, if I had money to spend on a fabulous clutch for evening, I’d go with the McQueen skull knuckle-duster over all of these combined. But this is a fun collection, very girly and cute, a bit flirty and definitely covers that all-important “pop of color” in a big way.

  • I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some of these at the opera.

  • crash1212

NAY. Pretty boring. Of course, if the clutch doesn’t have built-in jeweled brass knuckles, it’s dead to me.

  • SewingSiren

I like the first two. They look like those old liquid filled tubing bracelets from the 80’s , but that makes me like them even more. Something is a little bit wrong with me, I know.

  • Lilithcat

none of them are for a night at the opera
I have to disagree.  The 1st, 2d, 6th, 7th and 8th are definitely regular season opera material, and I can see the rest at Santa Fe or Glyndebourne.

  • MarissaLG

YEA! I love the first few the most, but they’re all cool.

  • formerlyAnon

YEA. Though they’re not for the gal looking for a few classic staples.

  • SatelliteAlice

Yea!  I especially love the little purple one with the bug and the last green one.

  • Love! Though #6 makes me laugh because it reminds me of those plastic beads I had as a kid that I’d melt to make keychains and fridge magnets…anyone else think that?

  • ChelseaNH

Yea!  Cute but (mostly) not cutesy.

  • PinkLemon

    one of each, plz!!

  • Yea-every one of them is adorable in its own way.

  • Emily Roach

    Overwhelmingly yea, I hope!!!

  • frannyprof

  • Julaine Morley

I’m sure these look much richer in person, but I find them un-thrilling. First impressions: Glitter Etch-a-Sketch, Lava Lamp, Insect on the Wall, Popsicle, Avon Calling, Sequin Comforter, Frosty Flower, Frosting Rosettes, Frosting Daisies, Bleach Spill and Shelf Liner. Sorry, Mavens!

  • guest2visits

The yellow daisies. And the pink lava lamp.

  • Corazon Nunez

I WANT that lava lamp clutch. But I’m weird like that.

  • adnama79

    Fun!  Yay!

  • now that’s what i’m talkin’ about!!  i’ll take one of each!!

  • ccm800

  • I vote YAY! The made me smile.

  • Gener1c

    Absolutely Yea.  Without doubt.

  • MemHey

i’d like to know if that cicada comes with red eyes (the 13-year variety) or green eyes (the every year variety). regardless, i’d like that one to open up and play the noise they make… because if you’re going to put a nasty bug like that on a chic little clutch, you need to take it to a whole ‘nother level.

  • understateddiva

Yay.  Except for the jeweled cicada,  which creeps me out.  There’s too many bugs in the Carolinas this summer to find him whimsical.

  • Bozhi

Yea, love it all except the bug one.  I also love her dress for Lord & Taylor.

  • Lisa

Love all of them, except for the “Angela’s Jubilee Jumbles Fleurcherons” one.   I vote yay!!

  • quiltrx

YEA!  And 2 and 5 are my favorites.

  • i especially like the one with the pink liquid because it’s so counter-intuitive.

  • NAY.
for one reason along, flowers stuck on stuff (aka shit stuck on shit) is the carrying card of many a crafter. Just search etsy for  “Chrysanthemum”. The marguerite is too close to an esty horror story

  • Timea Krajcovicova

    I absolutely ADORE number  3, 5, 7, 10 and 11. The other ones are just…meh

  • kaycem

it’s rare that i like every single item on a yea or nay post, but here’s the exception that proves the rule.

  • save_the_hobbit

As someone with the attention span of a small child, I feel like I would find #2 a good time every few minutes.

  • lucasuk82

Yay – I like them all but the purple with jeweled bug is to die.  It would pair interestingly with such a variety of things.

  • LocMama

YEA! They’re fun, girly, and I would love showing them off.  However, the first two make me wish they were actually filled with bourbon and could double as flasks.

  • YAY! These are so cute!

  • Rachel Council

NAY! I’m sorry, but these look like they belong in Suri Cruise’s closet.

  • elliekate21

the first one looks like an ant farm.

  • NiseiShonagon

I kind of love them all! 4 is most pairable, but the fun and nostalgia value (shades of those plastic hourglass/water wheels from my dentist’s office’s waiting room!) of the first two is so tempting.
