Kelly Osbourne in Vivienne Westwood

Posted on August 16, 2012

Hi, Kelly! Let’s play a game. It’s called “One Dubious Compliment and One Bitchy Criticism.” Doesn’t that sound like fun? We’ll go first.

Kelly Osbourne attends Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Launch Event at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City in a top and skirt by Vivienne Westwood paired with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes.

One Dubious Compliment: “That dress is iffy on so many levels but you really made it work for you, girl!”

One Bitchy Criticism: “A shame about the Payless shoes.”

Wasn’t that fun? Bye now!

Pretty much exactly my thoughts. Although I would have added “And the lavender hair has NEVER worked.”

      • Kathy Marlow

Oh that hair..she’s got a great face that is completely detracted from with that head of old lady cotton candy, such a shame

        • sk8tfan

Ditto! She has such an adorable, bubbly personality; the dress wouldn’t work on anyone else but she owns it. But that hair! It has NEVER flattered her, and she keeps insisting on it. Last week on Fashion Police it looked like she shaved off her eyebrows too. Make the hurting stop!

          • Sweetbetty

I think the eyebrows were bleached, for some magazine shoot, I read.  I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her when I saw her like that but I knew that she looked like an alien or something, then she mentioned having no eyebrows to Juliana.  She must have thought it looked good at the time but I’m glad to see they’re back (or some representation of them) now.

            • sk8tfan

I’m glad to hear that. She looked all Kabuki theater. Not a good look.

            • Marie Ee

I love that on TLO you can get anything from Doctor Who to Kabuki references.

    • afabulous50

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Launch Event ….seriously???  Celebs will show up for anything.  Oh, Kelly..time to ditch that hair color girl.

    • Vickiefantastico

I just can’t work up any interest in her whatsoever.

      • Sweetbetty

And I could never understand what qualified her to be on Fashion Police.

    • Kiltdntiltd

This is a total misfire for me.  The shape, proportions, and hem length are all wrong for her.  The bodice makes her look slim, but oddly long waisted.  The skirt length is a skosh too high.  The hair looks like it was thrown into that style in a nanosecond in the limo, and those shoes do not bear further comment.

      • Sarah

The bodice is also too small, as is borne out by the escape attempt of her right breast. I am looking at the fabric and thinking “acid washed jeans” and that is not a good thing, in my book.

        • Kiltdntiltd

How right you are. I hadn’t thought about acid washed denim, ( one of the more egregious sartorial mistakes of the 80s) but now that you mention it, it’s all I see.

          • Sweetbetty

I thought it was crushed panne velvet like you buy at Joanne Fabrics to make Halloween costumes.

      • Vlasta Bubinka

I’m voting Drag Queen Pairs Team Ice Skating at the Gay Games Barbie.

    • Ann M. Erickson

The colors and swirls in that dress really distort her body shape, and not in a good way. Le sigh.

      • kimmeister

        Plus, titscrepancy.

        • Sara LaBatt

That was the first thing I thought when I saw it.

    • GillianHolroyd

see I like lavender hair–I like PR April’s as well–but in this case it clashes with the dress.

    • MajorBedhead

The dress is doing funny things to her chest. And it’s just kind of fugly.

I kind of like her hair – it’s sort of Marie Antoinette-ish but it doesn’t go with that dress. Her face is lovely, though.

      • call_me_schmeg

i like the lavender better than that odd greyish color she had it for a while. plus, she’s got a foul mouth and fires from the hip— just makes me like her more.

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Shame about that damn shitty lavender hair.  When will she let that awful color go?

      • mjude

makes me wonder if she is keeping that color just to piss people off.

    • jimmack

Why does every body part look all out of proportion. As if it is photoshopped to the max. The sixe of her head (with grannie hair from the Beverly Hillbillies), to torso, the mini legs.  Very cartoonish.

      • H3ff

That’s Kelly for you. I find that she has the face of a young girl, paired with the body of a little old woman. Perhaps difficult to work with at the moment, but it should balance out later on.

    • Scarlet39

I think the shoes would not look so bad if they were paired with a much simpler frock, like something solid black.   With this dress, they do look  dyed to match.

    • l_c_ann

Fortunately, her tats aren’t as bright as her shoes.

Someone suggested that she breath through her mouth with her teeth not touching to elongate her face.

      • Sweetbetty

For some reason she always looks to me like someone who is wearing braces when she smiles, though no braces are in sight.

    • P. Capet

    • call_me_schmeg

i have a friend who does a riff on this called the compliment sandwich. it goes a little something like this:
thing i really want to say

      • alyce1213

That’s so clever, I mean it’s really pretty snarky, but it’s such a good way of saying what you want.

    • Crystal Stewart

It makes her boobs look lopsided.

    • Crystal Stewart

It doesn’t even look lavender to me anymore- just gray. Like what happens after you are done tie-dying your tshirts lavender.

    • Paola Thomas

Kelly obviously has a longish waist and shortish legs, so the proportions of this dress are all wrong for her.  Moving the waistline closer to her natural waist would have made all the difference. Nothing can be done about the shoes and hair unfortunately.

    • marilyn

All that and granny purple hair.  She looks uneasy in her pictures.  She is not a model, and should not try.

    • TheOriginalLulu

She IS somehow making this dress work, except that crooked neckline is concerning me. I feel like she’s one deep breath away from a nip slip. The shoes are so bad I can’t even talk about them.

    • PinkLemon

      That fabric. I can’t.

    • margaret meyers

She has tricky proportions for a girl with a good figure.  I think she’s smart not to be too concerned about it, feeling good about yourself is the best way to look good.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

Nope. I don’t see it. I don’t see it working at all. Proportions, fit in the boobage area, just not working for me.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

There seems to be some kind of “belly flap” in the fabric that is so so wrong.

    • Tracy

Does anyone else play the internal game of “Guess the TLO Pick and Pan From the Photos Before Scrolling Down”?

[What’s that you say? “Only everyone here, darling. You’re not clever.” Okay, then.]

And my immediate thought was, “It’s gotta be the shoes.”  I even heard it in Spike Lee’s voice.

    • Gara St. James

Hate the fabric although the basic shape of the dress is cute. Wish she’d get over the lavender hair.

    • Lauren Lynch Fox

I don’t like where the skirt hits her, but love her anyway.

    • patticake1601

She’s such a pretty girl with a great figure, sigh.  That hair, blue rinse brigade…. not a great look. Then again, her mum has Ronald McDonald hair.

    • MilaXX

Agreed don’t mind the dress, but totally hate the shoes. I give up on the hair.

    • marlie

It’s kinda sorta a cute dress, but why does it look like her right boob is trying to make a break for it?

      • formerlyAnon

Because the bodice doesn’t fit properly.

        • marlie

The whole dress doesn’t fit properly. It’s all sorts of wonky.

    • Pants_are_a_must

HA. Someone realized what an awful mistake bleaching her eyebrows was. Stay ridiculous, Osbourne.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

Why does she look so old? On purpose.

    • sleah_in_norcal

hi kelly, your boobs look great.  too bad about the skirt.  love you always.

    • formerlyAnon

l_c_ann, previously, nailed it I think. She’s been advised to smile with her lower jaw dropped to elongate her face. If  you don’t see a half a dozen photos in a row with it, it looks fine.

She’s adorable but doesn’t have the proportions to easily wear the fashion she loves & she doesn’t seem to gravitate to the sweetheart/pocket venus approach that similarly small women sometimes go for – and her features require serious maquillage to pull it off, anyhow.

Hence she takes chances and, sometimes, calculated risks. I like that. This one is not to my tastes. And I’ve mostly liked her violet hair, but it doesn’t work with this dress.

    • Michelle Young

Okay, is it just me or is the bodice crooked and showing the right side more than the left?  And of course, I have never liked the hair.

    • prettybigkitty

OK, my turn.   Your hair doesn’t look as awful as it usually does died granny purple.   But you could have used some jewelry.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Head to toe — awful.  She looks like a little girl dressing up as Katy Perry for Halloween.

    • Jessi03

Kelly!  You look just like my figure skater Barbie from 1988!

    • LesYeuxHiboux

The dress is working on her (against all odds), but her boobies look kind of smashed. The shoes are horrid 90’s prom platforms.

    • Sally Brownson

I really hate that dress. The dark patch underneath her right boob is making it look HUGE in comparison to the left. And that belt thing is making the dress look like it’s gathering at the back. It’s too weird.

    • Judy_J

That dress is iffy at best.  The fit is off in the bodice, and I really hate the fabric.  The way the hem of the top crosses at the skirt gives the illusion of a pot belly.  And those shoes are tragic.

    • Susan Crawford

If you choose a Westwood, you’ve gotta COMMIT to it, and Kelly is doing a good job. Agree that those matchy satin shoes just reek, though.

I like that mauve hair, but wish she had not gone with the up-do; she always looks much better when her face is framed. But I have officially joined the Kelly-O Fan Club. Call me, girl! We need to have a nice bitchy, giggly little lunch.

    • ri_dic

HOW is it that she gets to critique what others wear? Oy. The hair. Still ugly as sin.

    • MarissaLG

I think the bodice is too long and the skirt is too short- other than that, she looks cute!

    • IraKi

She has the face of a doll and the hair of a crackhead alien. Honey, get rid of it! Enough! Go blonde, pink, blue or real puprple. Just get rid of this abomination!

    • boomchicabowwow

Her boobs are off center.  Tug em’ into place guurl!

    • CarolinLA

      And the Payless hair.

    • Call me Bee

Well, blue shoes and purple hair notwithstanding, she looks great!  I have forgotten–what color is her hair, exactly?  Or have we really ever seen her natural color?
Anyway–she looks cute here, and she’s rockin’ her new figure.  Good for her!

      • Sweetbetty

When I used to watch The Osbournes they showed some childhood pictures and her hair was brown.

    • kikisayshi

Ugh, I’m SO over the lavender hair. And her boobs look crooked.

    • kattyatlaw

her poor boob looks like it needs a pocket protector.

    • guest2visits

      Blue looks really great on her, but this dress is kind of off.. she ‘s very pretty and trim in this;
but it reminds of a skating costume. The matching shoes and lavender hair add to the effect.

    • Pamela

Why does she always smile with her teeth parted?  It looks like she’s pressing her tongue on the back of her teeth….bugs me.

      • Sweetbetty

That must be why I always think of her as wearing braces!  You see that dark horizontal line and it registers to me as big ole junior high braces.

    • turtleemily

      Space Fairy!

    • ccm800

      retire that hair already

    • Erin

Every time I see her, I am amazed at how much she’s done with herself beauty-wise considering her resemblance to her father.

    • Toto Maya

I just don’t see how she’s some big fashion star and how everyone listens to her opinions when she constantly goes out dressed like this. It makes no sense to me. From the hair to the dress to the shoes, I think she always looks like she dressed in the dark. I don’t get her.

    • GTrain

    • Trisha26

Seriously? I don’t think any of it works. She looks older than her mom – who is adorable! Kelly is young and cute and perky – where is that in this ice-skating outfit?

      • LambeeBaby

You echo my thoughts. The color is great on her but the proportions are bad.

    • Amy Ellinger

I’m thinking this just didn’t photograph well. The dress is a different color in every picture.  I think she looks adorable, and I love the hair- but ONLY on her and April.

I just went from my natural super-dark brown to dark purple/aubergine, and I must say its a blast :-)

    • cleep1000

I think she looks pretty damn good. She’s worked hard for that body.

    • Emily Smith

so her right boob is the bigger boob then.  my left is my bigger boob.

    • TSkot

      skanky.  head to toe, skanky

    • Vera

      Shame about that hair too.

    • Thathoodwink

Never mind all that….Gloriosky! Her eyebrows are back!

    • Kathleen Gillies

What is it that she actually does?  Is she a talent or some celebrity’s brat that gets face time on tv giving opinions she is not qualified  to give… kind of like Paris Hilton?  I don’t care for her look.  If she has had lots of cosmetic/surgical enhancement etc. maybe she should start trying to develop the space betwixt her ears and maybe contribute something somewhere in the world that does not require red carpets.

    • Louise Bryan

Definitely, the shoes do NOT work with that dress.

    • MissMapp

Why does she always have Mrs. Slocombe hair?

    • bitterk

I don’t get her appeal AT ALL.   I don’t find her particularly fashionable or easy on the eyes.   Ok, that was my mean comment for the day.
