Kate Beckinsale in Armani Privé

Posted on August 02, 2012

Alright then, Kate! Now THAT’s what we’re talking about!

Kate Beckinsale attends the premiere of “Total Recall” in Hollywood, California in an Armani Privé dress paired with Brian Atwood shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and a Kotur clutch.

Armani Privé Spring 2012 Couture Collection/Model: Karo Mrozkova (ELITE)

You got a big-ass science fiction film coming out? You don’t wear something demure and colorless; you wear something big and science-fictiony. You break out your muthafuckin Lizard Queen dress, bitches, and you conquer that red carpet like it’s loaded with potential slaves for your Space Lizard Empire. This is the kind of dress that immediately causes its wearer to stand up a little straighter and resist the overwhelming urge to shout things like “SEIZE THEM!!!!!”

She really should have worn some sort of space tiara.

Now this is more like it!  Science-fictiony and fierce!

Did I read that right?  The dress is from a spring collection??   And on top of that, she’s a walking poster for “fierce...DiscoverMoreWays.blogspot.com

LOVE IT. Kate for Lizard Queen 2012.

      • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

        Hideous and perfect! Perfectly hideous!

    • kikisayshi

Fierce as shit, and she looks better than the model.

      • MoHub

Yep. One of the few where having boobs and hips makes the dress better.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610791985 Aniela Marie Perry

Agree but that’s not saying much, what with that awful bedhead the model is sporting and all.

        • Monabel

Yes, but her hair is nothing to write home about, either.

    • LeSourire

Verges on too costumey and on-point for me, but she is WERQing the you-know-what out of that dress and looks gorgeous (then again, it’s hard for her not to look gorgeous). Considering this is possibly the most appropriate location on earth for this dress though, and it still looks over the top, what/who was Armani designing this for anyway?

And just because I thought it was amusing- I enjoy very much that the caption tells us she has Brian Atwood shoes, because otherwise she could have crocs on and one would never know. I’m sure they’re gorgeous under there, whatever they are.

      • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

We were thinking the same thoughts, LeSourire!

      • MissAnnieRN

Yes, and the caption also says she is carrying a Kotur clutch, but I must be blind since I see no clutch.

      • kimmeister

I thought the same thing about the shoes, and it also reiterated my belief that Brian Atwood seems to have the monopoly on providing footwear for the ladies for this particular series of premieres/events.

      • AudreysMom

Costume-y, especially since the film she’s pole dancing for isn’t THAT kind of sci fi movie. It’s more like futuristic James Cameron remake stuff, not attack of the outer space creatures like you’d see on MST3K. But I’ll grant you that she’s WERQing this even if her face is just a little too classically pretty to make this perfection.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I always love it when the press release, or whatever it is you have quoted about what the celebrity is wearing, includes the maker of the shoes, and they are completely hidden.  In this case, the clutch seems to be MIA too.  Ah, the pitfalls of providing free baubles!

That certainly *is* an attention-getting dress, and she wears it very well.  Wouldn’t it be great to have someone like, oh, Evan Rachel Wood show up at the Oscars wearing this?  Imagine the red carpet watcher reactions!

Kate’s hair is loathesome; I hate that “sloppy chignon” look.

    • http://twitter.com/graykeller gray keller

      I totally love it

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

She literally looks like she stepped into a snake and made a fabulous dress out of it.  Werq that crazy shit girl.

      • call_me_schmeg

for my gazillionth rupaul’s drag race reference, this dress was absolutely the result of a fierce sexxxy snake challenge.

        • AudreysMom

           that obviously Sharon Needles won!

    • imspinningaround

This look is doing nothing for me.  I didn’t like this dress during the couture presentations, and I don’t like it now;  it looks stiff, heavy, and overdesigned.

I do like Kate’s mani, though.  That’s the first time I’ve seen a matte nail look good and not like someone colored her nails in with a Sharpie during study hall.

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Who knew wee-wee pads and candy could make an awesome lizard dress? Oh wait…wrong show.

    • Sobaika

(The hair’s a little meh, but I’m too scared of her to cause a kerfuffle.)

      • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

The hair is quite a lot meh, but fortunately there is so much dress she can get away with it.

    • Carrieanno

Did I read that right?  The dress is from a spring collection??   And on top of that, she’s a walking poster for “fierce.”

    • MilaXX

That is one cracked out lizard queen dress.

    • nannypoo

It appears she was caught in a wind storm on the way into the event.

    • TheOriginalLulu

It’s an awesome dress and she looks beautiful and lizard-y. I feel like she needed a chunky bracelet or cuff or something on the arm.

    • RzYoung

      Wow, that is A Dress

    • Vlasta Bubinka

I find her less interesting than the tartar build up on my dogs’ teeth… so here’s her haiku:

      Boring starlet nigh
      she looks like  frilled lizard
      can of snore opens

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

Applause…and now a standing ovation for you.

        • Vlasta Bubinka

if you liked that, you should see the one dog’s tartar!

    • Alisa Rivera

I think Kate Beckinsale is the only lady celeb who could pull off this dress. She does have a talent for making over the top shit work for her. Hate the sloppy hair but overall she’s looking pretty fierce.

      • LeSourire

Okay, this comment just begs the question… Is there a male celeb (who is not Ru) that could pull off this dress? :)

        • Lilithcat

How does Alisa’s comment beg that question?

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Because she said “Kate Beckinsale is the only lady celeb who could pull off this dress.” So now we think of which male could do it. I can’t think of one besides Ru. They would need to be long and lean and maybe lithe though.

            • Lilithcat

But that has nothing to do with “begging the question”.  To beg the question means that a statement is assumed to be true with the statement itself being the only evidence of that.  Alisa’s statement contained no such logical fallacy.

            • Alisa Rivera

Ha, I didn’t know my comment would spark a philosophical/semantic debate. Ginny, you picked up on the wee (very wee) joke I was trying to make. I think RuPaul is indeed the only male celeb who could pull off this dress. Though I’d like to see James Franco give it a try.

            • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

That’s me. Queen of the wee, wee jokes. :-) I agree with James Franco. What about a Brit in the dress? British men seem to have a talent for cross dressing.

            • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

Tom Hiddleston (Loki in Thor/Avengers) could pull it off. And, actually would probably work in canon since there is that whole Loki cross dressing thing.

            • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

              Dame Edna.

            • LeSourire

Okay, it raises the question… (learn something new every day) Anyway, I think most people probably got what I meant. And am glad to read Alisa did indeed purposefully insert that bit of humor into her comment.

            • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Wow, I see where you got the definition. Who knew there was an **entire** website devoted to using this phrase! Is it your website? Very cool. No wonder you have a vested interest in its usage.

            • Lilithcat

              No, I don’t have such a website.

            • Ginny Ellsworth
      • BazoDee

I was actually thinking Charlize could and would look better in this.

    • Wendi126

If every actress in her 20’s and 30’s named Jessica or Kate disappeared I wouldn’t miss them.

    • tereliz

Comments about this being the right (and possibly only) occasion for this dress are spot on! I think she’s really rocking it, though, and even though I think the hair is a bit too undone for my taste, if she’d slicked it back she really would have looked like a lizard queen! So all I can say is WOW, Kate. You win at sci-fi summer blockbuster openings.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Now that is what I need to find on Etsy: Lizard Queen Space Tiara. I need it for Full Moon Days at work.

    • quiltrx

Exactly!!  Like we all told these bitches, you’re in Total Recall, this is your chance to dress crazy as hell.  Go for it.  Well done.

    • SapphoPoet

LOVE the dress; not so fond of the sloppy hair.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

Agree. It’s yoga hair. Or maybe “I’m cleaning the bathroom and vacuuming the stairs” hair. But the dress is awesome – perfect for the occasion.

    • Le_Sigh

Ooh.  I like this lots.  I also want to see Morena Baccarin wear this.   She’ll never not be the Lizard Queen in my eyes.

      • tereliz

OMG, yes! With super slicked back hair and green eyeliner!

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Are they scales or feathers? If the latter, I am impressed by how much they look like scales (and even if not, I still love it). This is why I love Armani Prive – they make the best sci-fi chic pieces. And I desperately covet their suits for the day I am a powerful lawyer woman.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRealSandraOh Sandra Oh

WOW, I bet that dress looks even more spectacular IRL and up close.  Stunning.

    • BazoDee

I love it -It is perfect for the occasion! It is breathtaking. I was going to say it was quite a WERQ for me -but I’ve changed my mind WERQ!!

    • MoHub

How is this not a WERQ?

    • rumcg66

I agree the dress kills, but damn, the hair and makeup truly ruin the overall look. Someone get that girl some blotting papers stat!

    • http://twitter.com/GuidosDaddy Jason M. Galloway

Greasy face, limp hair, and she’s wearing what can only be described as a Tyra dress.  A decidedly UGH look to me. (I should say, I have an irrational hatred for her and only ever liked her in Cold Comfort Farm-“there’s something nasty in the wood shed!”)

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

I like her in the Branagh version of Much Ado about Nothing. But even Keanu’s good in that.

        • tereliz

She makes a very sympathetic Hero. For me, Much Ado is such a good movie that not even Keanu can ruin it. He’s brooding and Machiavellian, but in the most awkward way, isn’t he? 😉

      • l_c_ann

Cold Comfort being one of the rewatchable films of all times.

I wouldn’t have recognized her as being the same actress, although I kind of like the idea behind the shedding snake skin.

    • jennifervney

Love, love, love that dress! And she looks so gorgeous smiling instead of making the damn sexyface!

    • StellaZafella

      That’s good drag…GOOD drag!

    • leave_Blake_alone

    • frannyprof

The dress is super fierce. The hair is limp and tragic.

    • Anathema_Device

I like the back better than the front. The gown is a little costume-y for me. Very cool looking, though, but costume-y. Not loving the hair.

    • ballerinawithagun

What intern designed that dress for Armani….or does he have Alzheimer’s???

    • SpcilK

      Reptilian Regal!

    • oohsparkley!

I thought it looked like she had a snake wrapped around her body and also pretty fierce.

    • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

Looks better on her than on the model. I love it.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Love it. Remember when she was the demure, kind of gawky ingenue in Ken Branagh’s MUCH ADO? Baby girl decided to grow up.

    • jw_ny

That is too much dress for her.

      She looks sweaty.

      Her hair is a disaster.

      • 3boysful

She had to jam in a yoga session right before the red carpet, and didn’t allow time for a shower and hair-styling.

    • theblondette

She looks like she’s being devoured by a giant snake. I think it would work better if she had some bitchface makeup on, and as you say, a tiara. So instead of being eaten by a snake she would be a SNAKE WOMAN HYBRID. That would be something I support.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

I don’t really like the dress, but she does look on in it.

    • http://twitter.com/kerrymccombs Kerry McCombs

    • Call me Bee

IDK–this feels way too dressed up for this event.  And–she kind of lookw sweaty and wilted in the face and hair.
But a space tiara woud have been awesome!

      Like thi maybe?  http://www.crowndesigners.com/en/headpieces/constellation-rhinestone-silver-headpiece/prod_618.php

    • sk8tfan

Bow down before the Alien Lizard Queen. She is mighty and awesome and will eat your brains for dessert.

    • pookiesmom

The hair gives me twitchies but she looks FABULOUS in that dress.

    • deathandthestrawberry

I LOVE IT. I never really paid attention to her. Never seen the Underworld movies and the less said about that horrid Pearl Harbor movie the better, but she just went way up in my estimation.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Clydette-Wantland/673315286 Clydette Wantland

I love it.  Gets their attention for sure!

    • holdmewhileimnaked

      tribute to david icke.

    • julnyes

She is ruling in that dress, but the hair is unfortunate.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_5UQHEKG5EDX4T6NMARUC565TPQ Amy

Ohhh…so this must be what Ra’mon was going for in Season 6 of PR!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

VA VA VOOM! Kate is queen of sci fi…for the moment. This dress is getting better reviews than the movie. No about that hair: looks to need a good washing…very bed head with the flu.

    • alyce1213

It’s odd. I don’t really like the dress at all, but I think she looks great in it.
She’s a true beauty and knows how to WERQ it.

    • venusvelvet

Now you have me fantasizing about situations in which I could order people to be seized. . .

    • Vickiefantastico

Fabulous! Out of curiosity, why was this not a WERQ?

    • H3ff

But that yoga hair (as you boys would say) is beyond horrific. A sleek ‘do is what was called for here.

And I never noticed before, but she is a DEAD RINGER for Evangeline Lilly.

      • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

I was thinking she also could have gone full blown crazy hair as high as the sky.  That would have looked cool.  Maybe too costume-y, though.

    • j_anson

A space tiara made from Alien teeth, obviously. This IS pretty awesome.

    • Jeremy Porta

She looks like she skinned one of the aliens from V and is wearing it as a dress.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Now THAT is a dress for a sci-fi movie premiere…and me, so send it over when you’re done, Kate. Mmmkay?

    • jmorino08

The way she’s standing in that first photo, I thought there was a snake running up her leg at first. That is some fierce, freaky shit.

    • turtleemily

I want to see Morena Baccarin in this dress.

    • bellafigura1

Wow, that’s some major ugly, I hope you are kidding!

    • guest2visits

This was beautiful; it looks like they built it right on her body.

    • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

Awesome! I love the cut of that dress and she looks like she knows she’s looking hot which is the best way to wear something like that.

You guys took the words right out of my mouth. My immediate thought upon viewing the pictures was her looking upon a bunch of alien minions, screaming, “I AM THE LIZARD QUEEEEEEN!”.

    • PrunellaV

That dress is insane. Were someone on Project Runway to come up with it, they’d be aufed for doing costuming instead of fashion.

    • frankystein123

This is an almost-WERQ, because what’s with the hair?

    • ccm800

VERY scifi –  right down to the invisible Kotur Clutch (credits)  invisible clutches are very right now.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

Wow, too bad about the hair, tho

    • ChaquitaPhilly

WOW! Madame Lizardo looks marvelous tonight. I even like the stringy hair with this look!
