In or Out: Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace

Posted on August 30, 2012

The thing with Kate Hudson, when you’re a bitchy fashion blogger, is that, over time and without you realizing it, you develop an attitude towards her; an attitude that can only be summed up as, “Okay, fine, Kate Hudson. What? What do you want?” We have a feeling every bitchy red carpet commenter has this attitude about some celebrity and for us it’s Kate Hudson. It’s like this: she never wears anything we feel like commenting on. Ever. Until, over time, it becomes a struggle to even form sentences about her. She’s just kind of … there. And to bitchy fashion bloggers, “just kind of … there” is the death of funny.

So when these pictures crossed our paths, we sighed and said, “Fine, Kate Hudson. We’ll look at your dress. Whatever.”

Kate Hudson attends “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” Premiere And Opening Ceremony during the 69th Venice International Film Festival in an Atelier Versace gown paired with an Edie Parker clutch.

Atelier Versace Fall 2012 Collection

Well DAMN, girl. It’s colorless, but you can’t say it’s boring. And Miss Kate clearly wanted the world to know that undergarments were off the table for the night. As attention-seeking dresses go, it’s getting the job done (although it would have more impact if it wasn’t skin-colored). We honestly don’t mind a good “look at me, I’m not wearing panties” dress when it’s done well and worn at the appropriate venue. And if the Venice Film Festival isn’t the appropriate venue for a slinky, panty-free gown, we don’t know what is.

We think this all works pretty well. Like we said, we’d like it a whole hell of a lot more if there was some contrast and color involved, but for Kate Hudson, who never truly mastered high-impact dressing, this is a pretty damn good step in the right direction. It helps that hair, makeup, and jewelry are all perfect and the shoes are gorgeous, even if they’re terribly matchy.

Vote Now!

IN! Sex and glamour, bitches! Suck it!

OUT! Vulgar and trashy, bitches! Face it!

Poor Eva Longoria has been waiting over a week to find out what you all thought of her dress. You all mostly hated it, voting it OUT.

I think if it had been a more contrasting dress the no-undies would’ve been more obvious and less classy? (Er, if no undies can ever be classy… This dress gives it a good try, though.)

    • mmgk

I was thinking the same thing.  This dress only works in skin tone.  Adding color would take it straight to tacky.

    • mshesterp

Exactly–the fact that it IS nude is how she can get away with it being so revealing.  I think she looks fantastic, but when i saw her behind picture, i thought — hello!  That is butt cheek!  And yet…I still like it?  Go figure.  It feels very Versace, in the best way.

      Definitely IN.

      • Violina23

Exactly this. I didn’t even notice the butt-cheek at first.  I say IN, because somehow this is working…

      • theblondette

I think it’s exactly that because if we compare it to the reaction to Jaime King’s sideboob (on the Whiteboard the other day) that was much more negative, even though this flashes as much flesh. This feels like it’s being more sly about the nudity, in a fun sort of way, rather than a dress that just gives you an inelegantly executed flash of flesh.

    • Sobaika

Definitely. It makes it appear a bit more tasteful, whereas in color it would say, “Look at all my FLESH!Can you see it? Don’t you love it???”

She looks really pretty and striking, this is most certainly an IN for me.

      • SassieCassy

sounds like something Lea Michele would say

can you believe kate hudson is going to be on glee

    • Anathema_Device

Agree with the nude making it somehow less tacky. But it really isn’t a great color on her.

    • RebeccaKW

Yes, this.  I was trying to say something similar in my post and couldn’t quite nail down what I meant.  The nude color makes it less vulgar, like it’s all one thing-skin and dress and sheer panels.  As opposed to LOOK HERE’S MY BUTTCHEEK!

      • IN – completely agree with everyone above that this would only work in flesh-color

    • LocMama

I agree.  It’s a definite IN for me.  It’s revealing and bold, but in a sly way.  The dirty bird in me wishes there was a behind photo of her when she’s bent over laughing, purely for research purposes.

      • I love the background of that shot: all the photographers desperately pointing their cameras at her ass! LOL

        Anyway, IN, totally. Love it.

  • call_me_schmeg

look! sparkly old bras, held together by string! oh, what the hell… sure, kate. fine. ok… IN.

    • Sparkly old bras, held together by string, these are few of my favorite things. When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling sad… 🙂

      • kimmeister

She is particularly vulnerable to bee stings in this getup . . .

  • IN. It’s not to my taste, but I can’t find fault in it. Girl looks GOOD.

  • Applaud the effort, but the scale is tipping slightly in favor of vulgar. Out.

    • amywp

    • sojourneryouth

I was fine with everything until the back view.  I can even sorta deal with the butt cheek exposure, but that peek-a-boo strip starts juuuust below her hoo-ha.  I don’t wanna be afraid I’m gonna see back bagina, thankyouverymuch.

      • Amy Ellinger

        haha, bagina. perfect.

Front is beautiful, as is the back, other than that 8 inches from small of her back to under-butt.

        • sojourneryouth

Exactly.  Even though I understand all the arguments about the dress looking like disintegrating stockings, I still think the dress is beautiful and she looks amazing in it, but I just can’t with the exposed crotch.

    •  Same. I was going to give it a pass until she turned around. OUT.

  • This is ONLY OK because she’s wearing it in Venice. It would look better with a carnival mask, but c’est la vie.

That said, it’s nice to see that she hasn’t felt the need to have silicone grapefruits inserted into her chest cavity.

    • Agreed.  I thought she did get breast implants though, just small ones.  You certainly can’t tell in this dress.  Either way, I agree it’s refreshing to see.

  • Corazon Nunez

Her back is kinda pushing out over the top of the dress. You need to adjust that, Kate.

  • IN.  SO IN!!  Yeah its a monochrome look, and she is making it WERQ for her like nothing in the world will do.  She is also managing to make a dress that could easily slide into torridly tacky territory, look sexy/classy.  And I love the exuberance she shows in the bending over shot.  That, “ain’t this a kick” grin is delicious.

    • DinaSews

      Agree, 100%.  IN.

      • SapphoPoet

        I think that’s a great picture.

    • mshesterp

Yeah, to me the surprise was that this was an In or Out post.  I thought it was waaaaay in because she’s WERQing it so hard.

      •  Yep.  Though it isn’t au courant to do the monochromatic thing, there are times when it succeeds spectacularly.  In this case, to me, at least, it turns her into some fabulous beast, who’s pelt literally glitters.

        • j_anson

          Yes, exactly this!

    • CozyCat

Part of what makes this work is her girl-next-door looks and attitude.  And her slim figure.  If a more voluptuous or “sexier” gal wore this it would come off as incredibly tacky.

      •  Exactly. Its quite clear that she has a very healthy point of view about herself, and her profession. Obviously, she doesn’t take herself too seriously.  And in the lexicon of clothes wearing techniques, that is a major one.

        • Snailstsichr

And I think some of that is reflected in her posture. I think she wears this better than the model because she has better posture.
In, even though I did a little double take at the cheeky shot. I think it works because of the color. And her smile is infectious! You glow, girl!

          •  Girl does have enviable posture. (straightening up rather self consciously)

    • Total agreement! She looks better than the model (especially in the hair dept.) and I feel like another color would have taken this way over the top. Panty-less, butt-curve-exposing dress on me? No; my butt’s not that great (yet?). Panty-less, butt-curve-exposing dress on KH? Yes; her butt is that great AND her butt is in Italy! “When in Venice…”

    • Spicytomato1

“She is also managing to make a dress that could easily slide into torridly tacky territory, look sexy/classy.”
Yes. So many celebs manage to do just the opposite, so I’d say this is quite a feat for Ms. Hudson. I’m with you on giving her an IN.

    • j_anson

Totally agree! I actually really like the dress on her, but even if I didn’t, her enthusiasm is doing a lot to sell it.

    • Wendi126

She reminds me of her mother in that shot. Kate does nothing for me- not her looks, clothes, acting or life. But I have loved Goldie since Laugh-In and Kate seems to share the expressions of joy and fun Goldie made famous.

      • Wendi126

And yes I give her an “in”. The dress is fab on her and in Venice

    • Momma Goldie sure passed on some good genes there, that infectious laugh is All Hawn. I can’t ever seem to hate what she’s wearing because of it, and girl has worn some crap. Remember the green Galliano with the SLEEVES… I liked it *hides her face in shame*

      • Hey there, you OWN that liking! One of these days, over a bottle of good red, I’ll fill you about some of my more questionable likes.

        • Yum! Have you tried Argentinian wine? I’ll fetch you a bottle from Mendoza 😉

          • I love Argentinian wines. Please feel free to bring anything you wish!
I will make sure I have some great cheeses and other goodies to go with.

    • filmcricket

She’s probably laughing because she just gave all those photographers behind her a look at her ovaries.

  • Super_Red

Well damn. I agree with everything you said- with it wasn’t skintone.. but DAMN. Girl’s an In.

  • IN. She looks freaking fabulous, and I actually love the color of the dress on her.

  • Out. One wrong move and she’s going to have everything on display. I really don’t want to know Kate Hudson’s personal grooming habits, tengubeddymudge. It’s also catching her weirdly under the shoulder blades, giving her lumps and bumps she definitely doesn’t have. And the top makes her boobs look wonky.

  • Of course.
    Tacky dress.

  • SewingSiren

    Butt cheek is not chic!

  • IN.  I agree the flesh tone is a bit boring, but if it was a color, I don’t think the effect would be the same.  I did not enjoy seeing her butt cheek, but kudos to her after 2 children for being able to do what I can’t not having 1.

  • MoHub

It took me a minute, but I realized what it most looks like is a pair of pantyhose with a huge network of runs.

    • mshesterp

And yet…I still think she looks awesome in it.  How is that possible??

    • schadenfreudelicious

i was thinking a dab of clear nail polish could have stopped that from spreading…..

    • MissMariRose

       Good call. I agree.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

  • It’s a pretty wonderful dress, and she’s wearing it nicely, but you are unfortunately right about the coloring. Anyway, I cannot give her an out, and in the absence of “NEUTRAL”, it’s an IN.

  • SapphoPoet

  • IN!  She’s beautiful and looks great in that gown! Also love her makeup & hair.

  • Mary_Shelley

I love it, and wish that I could have worn it ever.

  • IN. A bit boring at first glance, but the details of the dress, not to mention the the fabulous hair and makeup, are fantastic.

  • VanessaDK

She has her dad’s handsome looks and her mom’s ability to laugh at herself.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

I have to say IN. She looks absolutely fabulous.
Vulgar schmulgar. It’s really old-style gorgeous and she knows it and she’s loving it!

  • gabbilevy

I don’t think this dress would work in a color. She looks amazing and damn does she know it–right girl, right venue. Well done. IN.

  • mhleta

In. This is definitely a goddess moment. Now if she could just bring her acting choices up to this level.

  • Jessi03

Girl can definitely work a naked dress.  IN.

  • OUT. She’s one giant boob job away from appearing at a porn awards show.

  • sherrietee

I think it’s probably not the best thing when I see the thumbnail and think “why are they showing Prince Harry naked in Vegas pics on their site?”

Therefore, out.  If Kate can be confused for Harry, even for just a moment, that’s a bad, bad thing.

  • Monabel

Vulgar and trashy and too long.

  • Kayceed

Spectaculary, blindingly vulgar design trying to pass itself off as classy with  a muted palette and beautiful beadwork. That said, I’ll give her an “in,” as she is wearing this as comfortably as a second skin.

  • claudemtl777

Isnt she styled by Rachel Zoe?

  • l_c_ann

Vulgar, especially the butt cheek reveal from the back.  Anytime a dress makes Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birttthhhday, Mr. President”  see through dress look demure, it’s too much.

  • That was completely IN for me until I saw the back view–butt cheek is not in.  It’s still a marginal in but I really wish the slashes didn’t go places that make you afraid what you might see next if the dress were to twist or the wind to shift.

  • Judy_S

In, though that dress gives too much information.

  • kelsita421

In at first glance  — she’s gorgeous from head to toe! (Better post this before that little voice inside my head starts whispering then shouting, “kinda skanky, no matter how fun and fab you think you are, miss hudson!”)

  • lehen

In.  I actually think the skin color works because it makes the nakedness a little more…. subtle?  If its possible to show your bum and be subtle at the same time…

    • S_Swift

I agree. The effect is more muted than it would have been in a more contrasting color.

  • HazellC

I like the butt panel, but the top is making her boobs look wonky. I don’t like boob-wonk.

  • jw_ny

Love it!  Love everything about this look!

  • Anathema_Device

Panty-free, sparkly, and skin tight…and somehow, I still don’t care!

Fine, tacky, though it is, I’ll give her an in.

  • i can’t stand her, but i think she looks hot here.  normally, would want more color, too, but in this case, it’s perfect. ugh.

  • unbornfawn

OUT. It manages to be vulgar and boring!

  • Judy_J

I liked it till I saw the rear view.  “oooops!  I forgot my panties!”  I bet sitting down in that dress was a real treat. OUT.

  • Lilithcat

    Incredibly vulgar.

  • fiestyfashionfem

Out – but not because it is sleazy; it is a bit too close to her coloring.  And – look carefully and you can see something that looks like underwear on the #6 photo.  So that is a relief – sorta.

    • ballerinawithagun

I agree that there is some sort of panty under there.

  • OUT because of the color. If this were a vivid turquoise or jade or sparkly ocean blue it would have been perfect.  The design is fine, I’ll let the hair pass, but the color… I just can’t support skin tone sequins on anyone.

  • VaVaVoom!!! She looks great!!!

  • Vickiefantastico

Sorry, I may be old fashioned, but that dress is just slutty. And it’s too tight along the back.

  • jmorino08

I say IN, but she needs to go up a size. It’s totally cutting her in non-flattering ways in the back. Also, holy chest veins Batman!

  • IN

  • LadyCelia

I think that the only way this stays (relatively) classy is having it be flesh-toned.  It’s a really stunning and theatrical look for her and she’s carrying it off well.

  • ballerinawithagun

In. Fabulous dress in the correct “flesh” tone for her skin, this is more rose gold than flesh colored. Maybe this is a return to the Kate Hudson of yore.

  • Gorgeous. I think this would have been over the top in a popping color and all the sparkles make it stand out plenty.

  • IN. Not completely in love with the dress but she looks fabulous and looks like she feels fabulous.

  • In!

  • Damn – she’s got a BANGIN’ bod! I think it’s a lovely dress, I just wish the color were a bit deeper. IN.

  • LuisaNL

Damn, she looks hot! And classy. IN

  • tired_mommy

  • beebee10

     big IN

  • OUT.  Go ahead and give that to a chocolate girl…say…Kelly Rowland, and then we can talk.

  • I don’t want the dress color to change (and I even think she’s wearing it better than the model) but I wish another equally formed actress with darker hair and complexion has worn it.

  • Mmmph. It’s kind of a Monet to me. The full-body photos are spectacular. Then you get in close and it looks like a bunch of spiderwebs…spiderwebs with a touch of butt cheek.

I’m leaning toward IN on this one, though, because it really does look spectacular until you get up close.

    • Alisa Rivera

Total Monet. At first I thought, eh, you know, Kate Hudson in a neutral dress but she looks pretty, and then I saw the dress cutting into her back and giving her chicken cutlets and then the ass flash and bleah. Can’t say she’s out but I’m not loving this.

  • pookiesmom

IN but she looks ready to cut a bitch in the first and second photo.

  • rissa42210

IN.  She looks hot and well-tucked because it took balls to wear that dress.  I mean, the look is essentially bedazzled nudity.  If the color weren’t nude, it would lose the naked-dress feeling.  Given that’s what she was going for, she did it.

  • PinkLemon

This is the classiest skanky dress I’ve ever seen. OH SO IN.

  • twocee

I give her an IN, although I think this is one of those where the more I look at it the more I don’t like it.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Tacky, tacky, tacky — but then I think that about most Versace clothes.

  • MissMariRose

Well, I guess that boob job rumor was untrue.

  • HarperSmith

Completely IN! It’s a fabulous combination of sexy/goddess/risque. Butt cheek don’t care. WERQ.

  • The only thing I don’t like is how tight it is across the back.  You know that’s going to leave a mark.

  • Call me Bee

This is so IN I can’t even see it anymore.  She clearly is comfortable and relaxed and looks smokin’.  Hair is perfect, and we all know Kate usualy wears white, so this is actually a color for her!  Love it!

    IN to the nth degree!

  • afabulous50

IN.  She looks better than the model.  No further explanation necessary.

  • Faboo and IN.

  • Its a cheeky little number isn’t it? Also it looks like she is wearing underwear. I think you can see it covering part of her butt. In i guess in meaning meh

  • elfbrick

Dlisted said this about it, and now when I look at photos of the dress it’s all I can think about: “At the Venice Film Festival today, Donatella Versace shed a layer of her lizard skin, bedazzled it, threw it on Kate Hudson’s body and called it fashion!”

  • In. Despite the Buffalo Bill approved color, she looks AMAZING.

  • AthenaJ

IN! Kate looks gorgeous from head to toe. Normally I don’t like flesh colored gowns, but this really works on her… and I agree with a bunch of the other PUF’s that if there were more contrast, the see-thru panels would be more apparent and take this dress into tackytown. As it is, it has just the right amount of risque without being slutty.
Btw, I know Kate bores you guys, but I can’t help but like her! Maybe because I loved her in Bride Wars and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? I think you need another session of veging on the couch, watching silly romantic comedies 🙂
    P.S. don’t forget the Ben & Jerry’s!

  • fringebenefit

IN…to an extraordinary extent. One of the best looks, from top to bottom, I’ve ever seen on her or anybody. She gets everything right here. Well, ok. A touch vulgar. But still. Gorgeous.

  • I love everything about this. Even the matchiness doesn’t bother me. She looks great! **IN**

  • IN. Yeah, I would NOT have liked it in a bolder color. It would have looked trashy Real Housewives of Las Vegas (or something).

  • IN – Kate looks fab!

  • I love it. She looks glowing and golden and happy, and the little bit of butt cheek doesn’t take away from it at all, strangely enough. IN.

  • In. I think it looks better on her than on the model

  • Pants_are_a_must

    Enough said.

  • SuzBald

Maybe red lips and nails or a dark mahogany would have added contrast..not sure the dress could handle being a different color.  She looks great.  The effect is just a little…uncomfortable.

  • teensmom99

IN.  She looks better than the model.  And I never expected to say this about her.

  • I spent a good couple of minutes admiring her body (all the moreso because I’m a mom too, and damn, the woman has got her mojo back).  “Have people reflect on how awesome my body is” was surely her goal for the evening, so I think she scored a win.  IN.

  • I love it. But I love her as well. I know she’s boring as hell, but when she smiles, I believe it. IN!

  • DaveUWSNYC

    Hide and cheek. Sex-tacky-lar!

  • In. I think she looks stunning.

  • Inn.    “…This old thing? Why I only wear it when I don’t care how I look.”

  • leftcoastpickle

In, even though I’m not crazy about seeing her butt cheeks, that kind of wrecked it for me.  I was thinking how fantastic she looked, then suddenly, butt cheek.  I’m kind of wondering what you could possibly wear under this dress. Was it actually made to be worn with nothing underneath? That just seems so crazy. Maybe I gotta get out more.

She looks fantastic, though. Three cheers that she hasn’t wrecked herself with fake boobs.

    • alyce1213

She does, in fact, have breast implants.  She was smart enough to keep them small and natural-looking to suit her body so it really doesn’t look like it.

      • TheOriginalLulu

I had no idea. Good for her for keeping them realistically-sized for her body. I would never have guessed.

  • houseofestrogen

In! The Butt check thing freaks me out a little, but overall, I think she looks great.

  • frannyprof

    Weird boobage, but IN.

  • Although colorless, she looks great! Definitely an IN.

  • AlexisPayne

I kind of love this, it makes me think of Marilyn in Some Like It Hot. Hair and face are perfection and I think the champagne color keeps you guessing (I didn’t realize it was sheer till the back shot). Overall, In.

BTW, that shot of her bent over laughing was before the back shot of the dress and now all I can think is those photographers behind her must have gotten quite a show. She is also looking TINY!

  • Lisa

IN! And if you had told me yesterday that I’d be giving a nude, sheer dress with visible butt cheek an in, I’d have told you you were crazy! But the whole look works, it just does!

  • Larkin21

Hm, while I’m not generally a huge fan of the-dress-matching-the-color-of-her-skin, I can’t deny that she looks amazing regardless. Also love the hair and make-up. IN!

  • IN. I think she looks great.

  • Susan Crawford

    IN. She rocked that dress.

  • In, though the lack of panties took me by surprise. Although the dress really matches her skin tone, it’s really beautiful and  interesting and she has the perfect body to wear this.

  • Yawn. Is her mom on the red carpet somewhere? I’d love to see some Goldie rolling it out.

  • marilyn

Barely IN.  If the dress weren’t so see through, I would have more evergy for it.  Other than the fact that we are supposd to see her naked body through it, this is a very classy dress.  I like her hair for once.

  • VicksieDo

She had me giving a WERQ until I saw her ass hanging out. BOO, that’s an OUT honey.

  • crash1212

So IN. She’s killing it. I think the “vulgarity” level would expand exponentially if it was an actual color. I think it was very sly of the Versace people to keep it skin tone. Hair is perfect. Make-up is perfect. Love the shoes, jewelry and clutch. I think Kate shoulda got a WERQ, but realize, given your opening comments, that’s never gonna happen.

  • Sabina Kallstrom

It pains me to admit it because Kate seriously irks me… but this is so IN. She looks FABULOUS.

  • I say she’s IN. She looks fantastic!

  • butterflysunita

IN.  She looks gorgeous.  Her attitude helps carry it off.

  • sweet_potato

I love the dress, though the no panties thing is kind of skanky, but isn’t that the mission statement of Versace?

  • janetjb

Glamorous look and the styling is perfect.  Not a WERQ?

  • luciaphile

I should hate this, but I don’t. IN.

  • alyce1213

I was going along with it until I scrolled down to the back shot and no — that’s just too close to full-on butt crack for me.  It went over the line to vulgar, so Out.

  • Gorgeous, IN. Better on her than the model.

  • TheOriginalLulu

Enh. To me she’s much like Gwyneth Paltrow in that she was lucky enough to inherit her mother’s good looks, but she unfortunately didn’t get any of the spark that makes her mom such a star.

The dress. I was on board until I saw the back, with the butt cheek view. I mean, she looks amazing and I’m a little cranky that I no longer have the bod to wear something like that. Not that I would have ever had the occasion, mind you, but twenty years ago I could have rocked something like that, exposed butt cheek and all.

But I digress. Who cares? She looks hot. I just think it looks a bit desperate, if not a bit tacky. But the intention was obviously to look hot and that she does, so mission accomplished. She gets an IN.

    Does anybody have any vodka?

  • julnyes

OUT – I don’t care where she is, I don’t want to see her butt cheeks

  • Not for me. I thought she’d turned the corner to divatastic when she turned out wearing those blue sequins a while back, and this is just a step backwards.

  • CQAussie

Good heavens.  Scandalous.  IN!  She looks gorgeous.  In a colourless no undies sort of way…

  • She’s still boring, but everything is correct. In.

  • Jangle57

Isn’t she dressed by Rachel Zoe?  And didn’t she wear some white dress at one of the awards shows a few years back that was pretty amazing?  Anyhow, IN

  • j_anson

Definitely IN. She looks great. I actually like this kind of skin-color dress, when it’s a warm, healthy-looking skin color, rather than a washed-out, sickly beige skin color.

  • another_laura

Meh.  Neither in nor out.  It’s all gold on gold on Goldie.

The truth is, I just can’t reconcile in my poor little brain the fact that she has a career.  She’s just dull, dull, dull as dirt.  There are many in Hollywood like this, but who at least didn’t start off with the family connections she has.

  • bailey debruynkops

in, eventho i can see her butt & it needs to be in a shade of green.

  • CatherineRhodes

  •  Sorry, visible butt-cheek makes my brain hurt, so this fails for me for that reason alone.  Since when is your a$$ being visible on the RC appropriate?

    color me old…

  • CatherineRhodes

Just noticed how much she looks like Blake Lively. They need to be cast as sisters.

  • In! She looks fantastic. The skin tone works with no panties because otherwise it would not simply say “no panties look at me!” it would SCREAM “no panties look at me!!”

  • I think this is a WERQ! She looks fabulous.

  • kimmeister

I would have given this an in because she looks so confident and small-busted gals need some love too, but I just can’t with the sheer panels around the pelvic region.  Vulgar is never in for me, so OUT.

  • Imasewsure

    IN she looks beautiful

  • MilaXX

Out! girl go put some drawls on.

  • Joyce VG

Well DAMN GIRL is right!  IN.  Gorgeous!

  • Aly Light

  • RebeccaKW

In.  I honestly don’t mind the nude color of the dress, b/c it really does make her seem more nude.  Like the sheer panels are less vulgar somehow-like it’s less in your face ‘LOOK I DON’T HAVE PANTIES ON’ like it would be if it was in a color.  Am I making sense?  It’s too close to lunchtime.  Hair and makeup are great.

  • Lisa Kramp

In. If ya got it, flaunt it.

  • Definite in. I think this is the way to make a flesh-colored dress work: literally using the color of her flesh. She looks stunning and sexy and almost too much, but not quite.

  • In.  However, I could live without the butt cheek.

  • leave_Blake_alone

IN. I think it manages to be high impact and gorgeous despite (or perhaps because of?) the boring color.

  • aimee_parrott

Three words: monochrome peekaboo titscrepancy.  OUT.  It’s not that she doesn’t look glamorous, she certainly does.  I just don’t like it.

  • jennifervney

In, although I’m not on board with the visible butt cheek.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

    No question.  IN and WERQ.

  • Huge, grudging IN.  She’s doing a frankly amazing job of pulling this off, considering I can practically see her taint.  Well done everyone involved, but maybe next time we can see this in color with a little more coverage?

  • melanie0866

IN.  I don’t say that lightly, because I do not approve of flashing one’s normally-private parts in public, but she looks amazing.

  • EEKstl

IN all the way.  I actually think this dress is better for the fact that it’s colorless.  It renders all the “peek a boo” elements more tasteful than if it had been in a more impactful color.  I know what you mean about Kate, but here she really looks terrific.

  • BeeBeauNYC

The S curve around the butt crack takes it irreversibly to whore-dom for me – OUT.

  • Trisha26

Out. I LOVED everything about the look until I saw the back view. Um. No.

  • I think she looks fab.  It’s sexy but not garish.

  • Samantha Zito

IN. Perfect venue and this would have looked terrible on one of the twees and caused an annoyed eye-roll if it were on Rihanna or Lea or Blake. Plus, she’s post-baby!! you werq that shit, momma.

  • susan6

You know….I want to hate this, but it’s working.  Usually I hate flesh-toned garments, but this is similar to the “naked dress” that Carrie Bradshaw wore on one of her first dates with Big.  It’s not wishy-washy about being flesh toned.  It’s supposed to be flesh-toned.   It’s supposed to compliment the body while making everyone think about you naked.  That is it’s purpose.  So I give it in IN.  Makeup and accessories are flawless.

I think she IS wearing panties; I think I see a slight color difference in one of the shots from the back.  Good for her, that’s the only reason it’s not a complete “Ew”.  Because, hey, panties are needed.  Not into the commando thing.

  • Emily Roach

In! Even if it looks a wee bit too tight up top. From all angles.

  • IN…in this case I think the skin color is the best. It makes the cut outs more subtle. If it were in black or dark color it would look a bit slutty.

  • mjude

IN.  dear god i have been trying to get on TLO’s all morning.  finally relief!

  • I think you have a new candidate for “Of course.” Still, In.

  • loverungay

IN.  I agree a little less matchy would be nice but it would also make her more obvious about the no undies…..

  • formerlyAnon

I was all set to give her a hands down IN after seeing the front view, to say that she was as close to pulling off a Halle Berry sartorial coup as Kate Hudson could ever hope to do.

And then I saw the back view.

And I am old and it is vulgar. And trashy, and would you kids PLEASE get off my lawn?

And then I looked, again, at the front view.  Great.

And then I noted her bending over, poking her peek-a-boo rear out at the photographers like a primate in heat.

    Mental full lock-up.

Ah well. She’s in Venice and I am not her mother. A tawdry and it coulda been a contender kind of in.

    • alyce1213

I’m not her mother either, but I can’t help but be concerned that if that dress shifts AT ALL, we get her whole butt crack.
Vulgar, indeed. Great front of a dress, but I couldn’t give it an In.

  • LANDRU3000

This is her “I’m back in form, bitches” statement.   Wasn’t she 8 month pregnant the last time we saw her?    She looks terrific.  Better than a few years ago.

  • DeTrop

    This is fabulous.  IN!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

In, she looks good and like herself. A more interesting version of her same old crap. Slinky golden gowns.

  • lesmaha

In.  I think she looks great–love the neckline/straps.

  • Noshmek

  • carpediva

Didn’t know of your “meh-ness” for Kate but totally get it, and probably share it now that I think about her, which I never bother to do. (Proving that point.)  That said, when I saw these pics elsewhere I thought she looked amazing and hoped you guys might cover it, as I was curious your views.

Agree: hair, makeup and accessories all flawless, even with the slight platform on the sandals. And I see your point about the lack of color… but not sure that color might not have tipped this over the line into tackiness. Only other option I can picture would be silver metallic instead of gold… but despite the closeness to her skin tone, I think this is pretty close to perfect.

“Well DAMN, girl” sums it up perfectly. As IN as she’s ever been.

  • altalinda

  • Aurumgirl

I just don’t think you can do “contrasting” here, as this is a “one wrong move” dress.

  • BazoDee

    IN -she looks amazing.

  • Rrroza

    Wow. INNNNN.
Unexpected and superb. If I’d only read or heard a description of this, I would’ve thought “ugh! trashy!”
    (Great comments below, y’all!)

  • ChelseaNH

I’m going with IN because that was my first impression.  Actually, my first impression was “That’s a Cher dress” if you made it in black and wore a slammin’ headpiece or wig.  But I miss Cher on the red carpet, so I consider that a plus.

    • TheOriginalLulu

You’re right. It IS a Cher dress. Unfortunately, she ain’t no Cher.

  • uprightcitizen

Not only is she gorgeous in this, but she’s channeling her mother’s looks and exuberance in a really delightful way. It’s almost impossible to see the shots where she’s smiling and laughing and not think of Goldie Hawn forty years ago … who was always such a bright light wherever you saw her.

  • Much like Kate’s personality, this outfit is one thick column of beige.  Not impressed.

  • TSkot

    Gorgeous head to toe: IN

  • KuriousKat

In until she turned around. Nothing classy about having your ass bared to the world.

    • Lilak

      Yeah . . .
Thanks (or maybe not?) to TLo for omitting the photos the cameras behind her took when she was bent over laughing …. ahem.

  • greyhoundgirl

It’s ALMOST burlesque but she looks so gorgeous–and I hate that she seems to favor clothes that drag on the floor—but I’d say IN.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

  • IN!!!! She looks fantastic. What a gorgeous dress. Love the neckline/strap treatment.

  • IN. She looks slammin’, and in color it would have been too much.

  • So gorgeous and she should get extra points for rockin’ that bod after having a couple of kids.  No Spanx showing through that I can see and in that dress you can’t hide anything.

  • I think she looks fabulous, actually. IN.

  • Dhammadina

  • Samantha Irene

I’m giving her an IN – if just for the fact that she made the paparrazo in the last photo make that hilarious face.

  • Out.  She’s been… there for so long that the spiders spun sparkly webs all over her.  So sad that the spiders couldn’t be bothered to cover her asscheek.

  • CleverUsernameHere

I’m voting IN, despite the fact that the picture of her bending over slightly makes me nervous. There are camera’s behind her; I feel like if she bends over any more those cameras are going to capture a lot more than a butt cheek…

  • Korrie Blanchard

Definitely IN!  Only someone as carefree as Kate Hudson can pull off so many cutouts without looking trashy.  I think the nude actually classes it up, a color would have made it look more desperate and black would have been risky!

  • Joy

In, in spite of the vulgarity.

  • I think she’s trying–fairly successfully–to channel Marilyn; I half expect to hear her singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President”.  I bet Kate had to be sewn into that dress just the way Marilyn had to be sewn into hers.  Both of them are projecting a certain vibe, one which is at the exact fulcrum of “wow” and “tacky”.  I’m going to say IN, but it’s the most unenthusiastic in vote I’ve ever cast.

  • phrenk

    Pretty.  IN.

  • AWS

    Perfection.  IN

  • lucasuk82

Out.  I appreciate the effort, but it looks like a bedazzled skin disease.

  • She looks better then the model and she is a goddess and lovely and just had a baby, but OUT. It is vulgar and no one needs to try that hard.

  • guest2visits

Really pretty and suited her so well, but then she turned around so I could see her cheeks. The dress lost it’s charm for me.
I kinda thought it was revealing and sexy enough with the semi-sheerness.

  • SatelliteAlice

In.  I don’t love it and I don’t hate it but what I do love is her attitude in it.  That is what makes it work for me.

  • Linderella

    Cannot. Stand. Her.
She gets a Lifetime OUT from me.

  • mayavaly

So, I’ve become disconcertingly obsessed with these pictures. I’ve read through all the comments to see if there is a consensus on the undies question. Is there even any kind of nude mesh going on? Perhaps with an attached thong? I’ve been going back on forth on this. I mean, I can’t even imagine. You would have had to check the dress from every conceivable angle (the bending over to the photogs suggests she did exactly this with an earlier audience). And then you get to the very last picture, and the expression of the photographer in the background there is priceless. I think I’ve finally got my answer. WOW!

  • margaret meyers

She’swearing Versace and she looks amazig.  Thereis a little taste queston, but she’s a fabulous (aging) starlet so of course there’s a taste question.  IN — you cannot look this good and not be IN. Taste takes a back seat (snigger).

  • OUT. The ass just ruined it. Ugh, Kate Hudson. Why did you have to go and do that?

  • lrhoff

    She looks fabulous….

  • I’ll give it an IN but I’d rather see it on someone fiercer and with a darker skintone. Girl, send this to Beyonce.

  • demidaemon

IN. She looks awesome. Go on with your panty-less self, girl!

  • random_poster

I give her an IN.  She looks awesome and is owning the look from head to toe (and everywhere in between).

  • So very very IN.

  • kikisayshi

Totally IN. She looks slammin’. If the dress were a different (darker) color, I think it would come off as more slutty.

  • poketom

In. She looks sexy and confident and she somehow pulls off nearly nude in a completely non-vulgar way.

  • IN.  Everyone else has already said everything.

  • IN. She’s sexy, and she knows it. I agree with a lot of the comments, if the dress were in a high impact color, it would only have highlighted her lack of “unmentionables.”

  • IN. She looks great.

  • MissAnnieRN

In. I love her and it’s because I have only seen one of her movies and refuse to see any others until they are actually good. Almost famous is easily one of my favorite movies from the aughts, and if I just think of her career as only consisting of Penny Lane, I’m set.

  • GotComments

That dress only works in the nude color, but work it does. I give it an IN. I wonder how it felt sitting in that dress for a couple of hours with no panties.

  • aristida_girl

    In! Love it

  • neofashionista

1000 Xs IN!!!! This is a WERQ for me she looks better than she has in a long time and she has the charisma and the personality to pull this off and yet not be annoying. Love HER!!!

  • Fibercrazed

I love it minus the beaded areola over her left breast.

  • oohsparkley!

In. I was going to say the same thing several posters said – a contrasting color would have made the peek-a-boo skin more obvious and thus too much.

  • sekushinonyanko

I would say this is an in just because she looks so damn happy. Like “yeah, ass out in Venice in Versace! WOOT!”

  • ccm800

IN as hell. I don’t care for her at all but she hasnt looked this good in AGES!  And colorless makes it all the more delicious to showcase the naughty anything else would have killed it all together. THIS is a werq! for me.

  • Lattis

    Lady Monochromicorn

    but still in.

  • IN. Yes, it’s totally a “Look at Me” dress, but she look great.

  • Joanie Hunt

  • Tatiana Jarquin

IN. She IS wearing panties (they look like flesh coloured lace hipster panties in the 6th picture), and I think if the dress were not nude coloured, it would look tacky. Granted, if it had been in a champagne/pale yellow colour it would’ve looked a little better, but I can’t critique a thing about her here. Everything looks so well put-together, and she looks fabulous and elegant.

  • I’m late to the show but…. IN!
