In or Out: Eva Longoria in Alberta Ferretti

Posted on August 21, 2012

Eva’s one of those celebrities that come across as a total non-entity to us. In many ways, she’s the perfect television actress because she’s pretty in an approachable sort of way and isn’t cursed with a surplus of charisma. We say this not to be mean, but because every time we come across pictures of her, we almost always default to NOT featuring them on the site. We actually took several days to talk ourselves into featuring these pics.

Eva Longoria attends the Global Gift Gala 2012 at Gran Melia Resort Don Pepe in Marbella, Spain in an Alberta Ferretti gown.

Alberta Ferretti Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Liu Wen

We like this dress. It’s a great color and it’s got some interest provided by the seaming and multiple splits in the hem. But to be accurate, we only like this dress. We’re not quite in love with it. For one, it was designed with sheer side panels and that’ll never not seem a little tacky to us. For another, the version that Eva’s wearing isn’t nearly as impeccable-looking as the runway version. She’s super-tiny, so we wouldn’t be surprised if this was altered for her, but we’re not sure if that explains why practically every seam is puckering. And is it the way she’s standing or is that neckline totally uneven? Essentially, this looks like a decent dress – and one that suits her to T – was altered in a way that pretty much ruined it. It’s too shiny and too puckery, and the side panels, which appear to be lined now, look too thick.

But go ahead. Tell us we’re wrong. Remember to show your work.

IN! WRONG! I will now explain why!

OUT! Purple & puckery! Enough said!

Miranda Cosgrove’s “smoking in the girls’ lavatory” getup got an appreciative IN from the Precious Unborn Fawns in our comments section.

OUT for all the reasons above.

    • PinkLemon

      Total flop. OUT.

    • joancarol

      Kim Kardashian.

      • Sobaika

Kim Kardashian would not be caught dead with such a poorly contoured face.

      • EditKitten

Very first thought I had, too.

        • 3boysful

           Me, three.

    • Deborah Lipp

To me, this is a Girl That’s Not Your Dress. It is a lot of dress with a lot of color for a tiny little woman. It is wearing her, and it makes her look thick and oddly-shaped.

      • Susan Velazquez

You hit on the nail what I wanted to say. It’s a great dress but on her it’s not. Ship this off to someone more statuesque. OUT.

        • ballerinawithagun

Agree with the two of you; she is way too tiny for that dress.

      • HM3

Agreed. I would give this to Charlize Theron.

      • Nancer

I have to add my agreement along with the rest of the unborn fawns. Too much dress for a tiny woman!

        • Judih1

Agree with all the comments above

    • marlie

I love this shade of purple, but yes, it’s way too puckery and the bodice is wonky. It’s a shame, because with better finishing, though could have been a killer look.

      Regretfully, OUT.

    • KSpence

      Oh God. That’s horrible. Out.

    • Sobaika

      OUT due to crazy makeup.

      • foodycatAlicia

Crazy makeup and weird fake tan. Somehow it makes her hands look like claws.

    • rissa42210

OUT! Purple & puckery! Enough said!
also, i’m not convinced that a woman of her age can rock a cheerleader ponytail on the RC without looking silly.  if there is such a woman, it’s not that woman.

    • Kristin McNamara

She looks like a Kardashian. INCREDIBLY like a Kardashian. Way too much eye makeup, and the dress looks soooo heavy. OUT for me.

    • frannyprof

    • call_me_schmeg

where’s her corsage and date to the senior prom?!

      • Little_Olive

This, so much. And her mom taking a picture of her little-girl-grown-into-a-woman in the dress she made for her.

      • Introspective

This times a million. Either its prom or bridesmaid. Its purple puckered plain and styled horribly. Uninspired to say the least.

But given all of what Ive said it is above, what it aint is cute. Out girl. Bye girl.

        • kmk05

You took the words right out of my mouth!

    • MinAgain

Did she put on her eye make-up with a trowel?

    • Patricia Gillett

OUT for the workmanship reasons issues mentioned and also because her makeup people did something very unfortunate to her eyes. WTH?

    • MajorBedhead

How is it possible that such an hour-glass-shaped dress is making her look thick-waisted? No. Out. Horrible alteration job. The top is hitting her in exactly the wrong spot, giving her chicken cutlet arms plus it’s all wonky.  I also hate her eye makeup. Looks like she has caterpillars instead of lashes. Blech.

It’s a shame, because the color’s great on her. But that doesn’t save it.

      • Vickiefantastico

That was my same thought! And somehow it made the model look thick-waisted too.

    • Randy Noak

OUT. The dress on it’s own is just fine, but the hair/makeup kill it.

    • Susan Crawford

      OUT, I’m afraid.

Eva is yet another celeb who appears to be planning a move to Draglandia in the not-too-distant-future. And she’s taking her collection of shiny, spangly, mermaid-tail gowns with her.

    • Julie Chase

Out-the seams make it look cheap. And the shape is boring.

    • agentilities

That dress doesn’t even fit, OUT!

    • Deb_Lynn

it unfortunately looks like the home made version of the runway look. It’s an Out

    • Stella Zawistowski

      Shiny. Poorly altered. Next!
      (oh, yeah, and OUT)

    • TieDye64

OUT, you guys called this one right. That wonky puckering completely ruins it. And that’s some harsh makeup.

    • lehen

out.  and that is some serious eye makeup.

    • crash1212

OUT. For all the reasons you stated – with an extra from me – the bodice flattens the girls out in a very weird way. Also, who knew that lining tacky sheer panels would alter the look SO much. It really does look….thick. Odd. Love the hair.

    • DinaSews

OOOOUT!  Whoever did the alterations should be fired.  It makes her waist look thick and her boobs non-existent.

    • TheOriginalLulu

      - Why are her arms like five shades darker than the rest of her?
      – Why is she wearing sixty-three pounds of makeup?
      – Why didn’t she look in the mirror before leaving and see that this dress looks horrible on her?

It’s all just so very disturbing.

      • kimmeister

I think her arms are dark just because she’s been wearing a lot of sleeveless tops and it’s a natural tan. I have the same thing going on myself!

    • Gayer Than Thou

I don’t know how this dress does it, but somehow it makes both Longoria and the original model look un-curvy.  Like it gives them boy bodies, even as its details suggest an exaggerated hourglass figure.  OUT.

    • 3boysful

I can’t even get to the dress because of the badly done make-up.  Her usually lovely face looks dirty, and there’s an overabundance of eyeliner.

    • AlexisPayne

      Eeek and Yawn, Out.

    • Ana R.

OUT, the gown loses the stunning look of the runway when it gets all stiff with the amended panels. Even though sheer panels are tacky, it’s what made the dress flowy.

    • janetjb

That is a gorgeous dress on the model.  OUT

    • mjude

OUT.  dont care for her & i dont know why

    • In_Stitches

Out, when you try to force shape and curve through illusion and seaming in a too-obvious, too drastic way, it makes the wearer look blocky and shapeless.   I look at her in this and she looks like a brick of cheddar: shapeless and cheesy.

      • Amy Conoly

It only maybe would have worked if the side panels were a different color-maybe more of a lilac than the same purple hue? I think that’s why the intention didn’t come across. It’s the same idea as the dresses where there’s an exaggerated hourglass, but those dresses manage the illusion because there’s a different color there. The outline is lost this way, hence her looking thick where she isn’t.

    • Carrieanno

Out. Looks lopsided on her, and someone let her out of the house with part of the little plastic loopy hanger thing showing.

    • Jangle57

I’ll take your word on the sheer side panels cause frankly I can’t tell; the only shot that somewhat shows that it’s sheer is the second to last, if I look down at the bottom, it looks like I can see through the fabric.  As for puckery, the model’s version is not pucker free either; Eva’s is just even more puckery (is that even a word?).  The color is gorgeous.  I guess it’s a Monet dress: from a distance it looks nice but when you get up close, it’s a big ole mess.  OUT

    • Apocalipstick Now Redux

This looks like it’s Stacy Kiebler’s dress.  Eva stole it and altered it herself.

    • Judy_J

OUT.  The runway version is kind of interesting, but the dress on Ms Longoria just isn’t the same.  Her makeup looks like it was applied with a trowel.  And this has nothing to do with the matter at hand, but she sure looks like Kim Kardashian in that second to the last photo.

    • sleah_in_norcal

eggs-zack-lee what i thought.  looks like it was altered in the front seams and someone messed it up.  the runway version looks impeccably finished, if a little pucker-ish in the front waist area.  eva’s dress looks like it was assembled by a project runway contestant. but i say in, just for the fabulous purple.

      • sleah_in_norcal

        oops, error

    • Nellie Wilson

I used to make dresses like this for my Barbie. They looked about as good, too. Which isn’t saying much, since I was 9 at the time. Big OUT.

    • Scarlet39

I can see wanting your sking to look shimmery or dewy, but she looks greasy.   WTH?

    • Sinéad Doyle

In her defence, satin is an evil fabric and this probably didn’t look puckered at all in the mirror but satin + seams +harsh lighting is an evil combination. No excuse for the bodice alteration though.

    • Clydette Wantland

      OUT.  Ker splat…

    • formerlyAnon

I dunno, there’s plenty of puckering going on in the shot of the model. Yes, she’s got more, but I dunno if that’s a reason for an out. I’ll let her squeak by with an “in” in teeny tiny itsy bitsy letters, because she looks fine to me at first glance, and it just goes down to mediocre, not terrible, upon examination.

    • BazoDee

IN. You have to get rather close to it to see all the out reasons, not enough to kick it to out for me. But I see that I’m in the teeny tiny minority here.

      • kimmeister

I’m with you!  Not an emphatic IN, but still in.

    • Stefanos Mantyla

Too bad it has to be OUT, since the dress looks so lovely on the runway.

    • Ann

Out – too shiny, too puckery, too lopsided, and too much eye make-up.

    • tallgirl1204

In.  For the reason that it’s a perfect color and style for her.  Princess seams are great for her.  I agree there are execution problems with the fitting/alteration, but as you said, she doesn’t get much press from you all, so let’s be gentle and praise where praise is due.

    • famousamy

I think it’s the dress’s fault. Somehow it managed to make her AND the model look thick. Maybe if the sheer panels were in black it might work, but I’m thinking it would still be unflattering. No way would anyone with any kind of a waste stand a chance.

    • StrandedFashionista

      Eh. OUT.

    • Ka T

I can’t help but think of Jessica Rabbit. Out.

    • SewingSiren

Way back when I was in the 9th grade (or was it 7th?) I bought this Vogue pattern to make some really cool looking stuffed vegetables for my bed. They were so pretty with this embroidered faces. I made the eggplant out of purple lining that I though looked like silk because it was shiny. The eggplant was my secret favorite because she was so pretty. Eva looks like that eggplant.

    • MilaXX

OUT. She another one who defaults to the mermaid silhouette, which I don’t mind as much when it’s fitted properly,  but this doesn’t. Sometime when you try to line the sheer dresses they end up looking bulky. This is one of those cases. I assume the satin panes are supposed to give the illusion of thinness or curves, but between that, the puckering seams and the now opaque side panels, this dress makes her look a little thick in the middle.

    • l_c_ann

It’s perfectly symmetric on the runway and it looks like it’s being worn sideways on Eva. (And it’s neither a summer color nor a summer fabric.)

    • Dixie Murphy Ross

Out, but to be fair I don’t like the dress on the model, either. Either commit and wear a corset, or don’t. I really dislike the “visual trickery” here.

    • Rain Jezek

OUT. It looks like both her version and the runway version were designed so that the curving would be off-center. What a terrible idea.

    • S_Swift

The silhouette of the shiny part reminds me of Ursula from The Little Mermaid for some reason.

    • Dave

OUT – The dress looks like it’s having stomach cramps.

    • Amy Conoly

This may work for Kidman, if the workmanship were more quality. The original and the altered just look lazy in the details.

    • skadi1

Ugh. Out. It makes the runway model look thick-waisted, and that’s WITH the sheer panels. I like her hair, and that’s pretty much it.

    • kim i

i don’t think the side panels are sheer until they hit the knee.  well, not unlined sheer, at any rate, and that i can live with — the shiny is shaped so that it narrows her waist. the tailoring is awful, of course, and her face is almost as shiny as her shiny.

    • Trisha26

Out. It doesn’t look that great on the model either, a very hard dress to wear.

    • BrightsideSusan

      My thoughts, exactly.

    • PrunellaV

The hourglass panels in the front have the opposite effect of what was probably intended — they make a small woman look thick. The dress looks tacky and overworked even on the model. OUT.

    • kschwarting

TLo, I agree with all your criticisms.  As a short girl, though, I give her props for managing to wear couture reasonably well.  She needs a new tailor, though–presumably she can darn well afford it.

    • mom2ab

Ven?  Is that your dress?  and you forgot to mention the worse than yoga hair. O-U-T.

    • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

OUT. It just looks sloppy.  The seams are for sure the worst offender.  But, the fact that she’s so short means the hourglass shape of the panels, combined with her height is just making her look like she is much wider than we know she really is.  And no woman wants that.

    • Lisa

Love the color on her, but hoo boy, that’s way too much dress for such a wee shrimpkin. Out!

Edit: I’m posting at work from my phone! I love beating the system!

      • kimmeister

        You rebel you!

        • Lisa

LOL!  I know!  You have no idea how bummed I’ve been not being able to post at work – I can read the comments, but not join in the reindeer games on my work computer.   Posting from the phone is still not the easiest thing, but at least it’s something!

    • sk8tfan

Out. Both versions of the dress are puckery and poorly made. Shame on you, Alberta Ferreti! You’re going to lose your designer permit. Great color on Eva, though.

    • j_anson

Heck, I don’t even think the dress looks good on the model. I want to like it, but yeah. Out. Little out.

    • Pants_are_a_must

    • hughman

      Googie Gomez would love it.

    • stagmania

OUT. It seems to have a weird widening effect on her very small body. And I’m not that into the color.

    • Anplica Fiore

I like the dress & purse, but not the hair & face.  She looks good enough for an in, but barely.

    • Squarah

I absolutely love the seaming on the dress and I’m a sucker for purple, but it definitely isn’t working as well in real life as on the runway. OUT. I love her ponytail though, at least that was a good choice.

    • Alloy Jane

O U T.  Not just because the dress is funky looking, but because her face needs all the gunk sandblasted off of it.  The sad thing is that even if the dress had perfect seams and everything, her general boringness would probably still make it a baby out for me.  Funny that her tv character is so in-your-face when the actress behind her is so benign.

    • Kati B

OUT. That is one shiny, shiny dress on a little tiny woman. No. No. No.

    • piecesofconfetti

Combined with the makeup, I have to go with OUT. The dress is nice, but looks tortured and her makeup is trying way too hard.

    • Aly Light

      Prom dress. Out.

    • DaveUWSNYC

      Out. That is all.

    • Annie Moore

Out.  I took one look and thought – ew!

    • Amy Ellinger

Out. She doesn’t even look like herself with all that crap on her face.  Don’t know why she feels the need to cake it on like that.  The dress is a great color, but just not flattering in every other way.

Met her at a Spurs game- barely any makeup, ponytail, jeans—the best I’ve ever seen her look. (and she was super-sweet and funny.)

    • KathKo

J’m more concerned with her hair and make up. Her face looks so harsh that it’s the only thing that I notice.
Wait… Did her stylist actually did that on purpose so that the focus would be pulled of the bad alterations ?

    • Laylalola

OUT. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but the whole look is a cut below Kardashian Kwality.

    • Little_Olive

Am I mean if she is always OUT to me (on account of her lack of presence)?

    • Heather Couch

I almost feel like this is a dress that needs to be in motion to look good because of the splits in the hem.  Otherwise it just looks kind of raggedy.  Or something.

But whatever. Purple and puckery! OUT.

    • korilian

Actually there’s some puckering on the model as well. I’m pretty sure it’s just a bad dress.

    • Joyce VG

I agree with T Lo. OUT.

    • patticake1601

      It’s tacky and cheap looking.

    • Jett Galindo

    • Myra C

I know it’s Alberta Ferretti, but it’s a horrible dress to begin with, so no amount of tailoring or altering is going to save it or Eva. OUT. And is she is extra shiny and shimmery?

    • demidaemon

OUT. Pretty color, but something happened to it on the way to the red carpet. Something very not good.

    • bailey debruynkops

    • Beardslee

    • oatmealpie

It looks like a Project Runway entry. Out.

    • marilyn

I’m on the fence about this one:  It is a great color for her, and is very bold.  The design of the dress is generally great because it emphsizes her curves.  Yes, there is a lot of puckering on this dress, and some on the one worn by the runway model.  I give this a marginal IN.

    • kingderella

OUT. the colour is nice but i otherwise hate the dress: puckering satin, weird skirt, uneven bust. also, her eye make up seems a little much.

    • txanne

OUT. The dress is wearing her.
And Thank You, TLo, for the absence of Longoria posts. She seems to be a vacuous individual.

    • Nacogdoches

Out, and not only because  I have a visceral anti-purple reaction.

    • andy

I’ll never forget what the Onion labelled her: “Human-shaped pile of makeup Eva Longoria.” Too true.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Out. It should have worked, but something went weird. The bodice has definitely gone wonky, and I was wondering why the sides looked odd. I think you nailed it: lined, they ruin the look.

    • Chris Sutton

Stick with your instincts and keep NOT featuring her.

    • nancymae

      Gross puckery. OUT

    • Cat_In_A_Hat

Purple, puckery AND that hourglass shape, which I assume is supposed to accentuate a woman’s curves, is only making the actual woman look thick waisted. OUT!

    • sleepycat

I hate the runway version so I am bound to hate the dress on her. I also agree about her lack of charisma. OUT

    • ChelseaNH

OUT.  The dress has gone all bulky, which is fatal for such a tiny person.  Also, the drama came from the contrast with the sheer panels, which has been lost now that they’re lined.

    • Eovaai

OUT for all the reasons you mentioned. The shape is all off.

    • Bert Keeter

Looks like crap! Part of the puckering could be because caused by her hand on her hip pressing in n down. Put not the rest! Neck line is a mess. Hate the shiny effect with that color. Not a fan of all that seaming n crazy piping! Very Bloomies dress dept for $198!

    • poggi

Agree with all, out.  Also the shwoosh seems to curve in a little too low and without model-long legs it makes her look long in the torso.  Not the best proportions.

    • kikisayshi

OUT. Looks like a JC Penney prom dress.

    • Celeste

    • Merneith

Mmm. Close, but OUT. It’s not offensive. I don’t think it’s a good color for her, though. And really, she could use some better earrings. Just a little – but something.

    • quiltrx

OUT.  Purple is fine, puckery is not.  Plus she annoys me.

    • ThaliaMenninger

      OUT. Pinhead.

    • IAmJ

Out. She looks like a perfume bottle.

    • VicD

      IN.  She wears it well.

    • Judy Raddue

Her makeup is frightening.  Why do always think she’s on the other side of 50?

    • ccm800

      Out for the mini Kardashian

    • holdmewhileimnaked

      no, yr right.
it’s a gorgeous dress on the model, sheer side panels or no sheer side panels. but it’s been ruined for its placement on the actress. one thing you didnt mention but which i found glaring is that its slight off-centeredness adds interest on the model but on the actress, & along w/ the shoddy seaming, just makes the whole thing look poorly made. maybe they were on PR time constraints, i dont know. but the dress is not doing the label proud.

    • PeaceBang

OUT. Bad fit in the waist and bust, and she looks super uncomfortable. TERRIBLE make-up and bad hair.

    • Fifi LaRoux

OUT! It makes her look bigger in the body and as a result her head looks tiny. Also this doesn’t strike me as a ponytail type dress.

    • Imasewsure

      OUT… looks home-sewn

    • Verascity

OUT. It makes her look thick, to boot.

    • LambeeBaby

Out. The bottom strips of fabric remind me of a car wash.

    • Inger Merete Hobbelstad

      OUT. Elton John’s bedspread.

    • Raistlinsama

OUT! It would be a nice dress, but that puckering… horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE!

    • ChaquitaPhilly

      Sooo very, very PURPLE!
And I actually love purple. But…I guess I don’t love it THAT much. OUT.

    • Aurumgirl

Something about this dress reads “bridesmaid” to me.  It really doesn’t fit her at all, and that’s the biggest problem.

    • Janey

It makes her look fat. And she is no way in HELL fat.

It also makes her look like she has no waist. Which is definitely not true.

Which means its an OUT from me

    • jimmack

Oh well, maybe not the best choice for a dress, but it is OK by me. Cute clutch though.

    • greymain

      fit fit fit !!!! OUT.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

The dress is overworked. Also, I think the makeup ages her.  She looks so much prettier when her makeup is lighter.

    • unbornfawn

OUT. Puckers, no! This was a fun dress on the model. It needs to be on a taller woman, fit perfectly. And her hair is boring and her makeup looks smudgy.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Too much dress on a small person.  I’d like to see a giant swede woman wearing this.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Purple, puckery, and just plain fug.  OUT.

    • oohsparkley!

      In. she doesn’t look bad.

    • Democracy Diva

      Out. Reason: SHININESS.

    • LocMama

OUT & I love to love a purple dress.  Eva usually lets the gown wear her & she’s dragging reams of fabric behind her like toilet tissue.  In this case she actually would like great in this if it wasn’t so horribly altered.  Oh, wait you only wanted reasons for an IN.  I’m done.

    • stef lee

      that eye makeup is hiddy.
