Holland Roden in Nicola Finetti

Posted on August 13, 2012

Toothache, darlings! Diabetic shock! Brace yourselves!

Holland Roden attends The Songbirds’ ‘Miss Me’ Album Release Party hosted by ELLE Magazine in West Hollywood in a Nicola Finetti dress paired with a Rebecca Minkoff ‘Vincent’ bag and Rene Caovilla shoes. Earrings by Guy & Eva ‘Rhonda’ and ring by Blue Candy.

Nicola Finetti Spring 2012 Collection

Guy & Eva ‘Rhonda’ Earrings

Rebecca Minkoff ‘Vincent’ Minaudiere

All she needs are a pair of gossamer wings and a wand.

We were going to make this a “Girl, That’s Not Your Dress,” but changed our minds. Pairing it with bright pink suede peeptoes (which are a big WTF all on their own) and a peach clutch was where things started going really wrong. The earrings are nice, but those are the only accessories that actually work.

Granted, the bust sits awfully low and the waist awfully high, but we think with some support and minor adjustments, the dress could work. Then she’d only need a pair of black sandals, a bag in a bright, but opposing color, and to ditch the mermaid hair for a sleek ponytail and she’d be downright adorable.

Hot pink suede peeptoes. There ought to be a law, darlings.

    • Sobaika

She looks stumpy – that is my biggest complaint (of many) with this ensemble.

      • Nelliebelle1197

Actually, I think that is the crinoline underneath making her look PREGNANT

    • norseofcourse

You gotta stand up straight and wear a good bra with that dress. She’s doing neither.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I don’t think she can – if she did, her boobs would be on full display.

That is one fugly-ass dress. and the shoes. Jeez. Stank foot strikes again.

        • MoHub

The dress needs built-in support as I don’t think there’s a bra on the planet that could hid under that bodice. And the shoes give me headaches.

    • call_me_schmeg

that’s what my non-existant boobs would look like in that dress. chicken cutlets, darling. that’s what they’re made for. boobing the un-boobed like us.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Jeee-ZUS.   Get the insulin!  So much wrong going on here, starting with how she’s standing—looks like she knows she’s not pulling this off.  Attitude is the biggest thing she ain’t got.  She needs lessons from Scary Spice.

That dress is a disaster and isn’t worth any time or trouble to mess with the styling & try to bring it up to anyone’s standards.  Save yourselves and your incredible talents for other, more worthy dresses, TLo.

    • schadenfreudelicious

i suppose she has no choice but to slouch so her girls stay put in that unfortunate bodice, so lets add slumpy to the list of complaints…and not only are the shoes horrific but as is keeping with the way of the starlet, they do not fit….

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i just i had a vision of her throwing back her shoulders and the girls popping out in all their glory.  a lovely sight, i’m sure, much nicer than them crammed into this dress.

    • Judy_J

Hot pink suede peep-toes that DON’T FIT.  There ought to be a law against ill fitting shoes.  It’s become epidemic.

      • j_anson

I remember reading somewhere that ill-fitting shoes are endemic in TV shows because the costume department needs to move fast and keeps a wardrobe of possible things around, but tends to err on the side of a bit too big because if you’ve gotta shoot and the shoes don’t quite fit, too big is more workable than too small. I wonder if the stylist/star/red carpet-occasion dynamic works similarly.

        • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

I also think actresses and stylists are at the mercy of a design house who is sending them the clothes.

I also imagine that in some cases, if a stylist or their team has dropped the ball it’s probably hard to pull together a decent outfit or accessories in a timely manner.

          • j_anson

Yeah, particularly when you’re still not a big name. I mean, I like Holland Roden, but she’s still just a secondary character on a moderately popular TV show.

          • luciaphile

And this is why it’s probably not a bad idea for these people to buy their own damn shoes on occasion.

      • MissAnnieRN

Suede denotes fall, colder temps (to me). Peep toes, summer, spring. Warmer temps. These shoes are schizophrenic.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

      A whole lot of “NO.”

My aunt got me a pair of bright pink suede pumps for Christmas a few years ago. No lie. She thought they were so cute and stylish that *obviously* they were perfect for me. I couldn’t even figure out a way to wear them just once before I (guiltily) got rid of them after about 2 years.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

She is clearly a rather short-waisted person, so this dress, though it sits on her natural waist, is making it look like her hips start right where her boobs leave off.  Not only are the shoes wrong in so many ways, they are two sizes too big.

    • RebeccaKW

Those earrings need to be mine!

I kind of don’t like this dress, on her or the model.  Who wants a big ol’ fold of fabric right over her stomach?

      • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Agreed – I love the earrings, and absolutely nothing else the girl is wearing.

    • DaveUWSNYC

Hot pink suede peeptoes that DON’T FIT. A question for the ladies (non-penised) – do those kinds of shoes hurt to wear? They look like they do…

      • holdmewhileimnaked

yes. & i think that’s one of the reasons all the starlets tend to wear them too big–so they wont continually grab the ankle from here until blisterdom. even still, there are ways almost as easy to get an ankle blister via all of that replacement rubbing. the other reason is probably that the starlets took what was available to be borrowed & whatever that was, was probably not available in a needed half size. just a guess. or two of them, actually.

as for the abovenoted: i love the outfit, shoes & all, on the model. really love, i mean. i mean really.

      • MilaXX

yup shoes the wrong size whether they are too big or too small are uncomfortable to wear. I have no idea how the lady stars do it.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Peep toes that fit don’t hurt to wear. Peep toes, or any shoes, that are too big or too small are like torture devices.

    • LaylaSV

Oh lord. The Shoes. Ill-fitting suede in summer and in such a heavy, pepto pink? A nice yellow or even a gray sandal would have been so much more chic.

    • Griffinqueen

AND those hot pink suede peeptoes are way too big for her

    • Squarah

I freaking love the shoes, but I was wearing purple suede wedges yesterday so what do I know? I don’t think suede shoes should automatically be outlawed in summer. They are really no warmer than your standard leather heels, which is to say not at all. Suede boots are a very different matter though.

      • kimmeister

I like the shoes too, I just wouldn’t wear them in the wrong size.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ginny-Ellsworth/534496198 Ginny Ellsworth

Hey, hey, hey! Those look like my shoes from the 80’s! Charles Jordan fuschia suede pumps with a spike heel and pointy toes. I looked like Tinkerbell on acid since I Cellophaned my hair the same color. I miss those shoes. I would wear them to work every Monday. Okay, I would CARRY them to work every Monday to brighten my day!

      • crash1212

I was going to say something quite similar – mine were hot pink kitten heels with toe cleavage – and I loved them. My hair was several shades of bright red spiked within an inch of its life! Ahhh – those were the days!

    • MilaXX

She looks like a Bug-a-loo. All she needs is a pair of antennae. The proportions on the dress are all wrong; the bust is too long, the dress works better short. Then we have the wrong bad and of course shoes a size too big. This look had potential but the execution is wrong.

    • pattyw

      Who is she?

      • TropiCarla

No idea. All I could come up with is Baby Amy Adams.

    • j_anson

You’ve convinced me, T Lo. Pink is hard to wear.

    • hughman

She looks like Tinkerbell’s bridesmaid who does too many shots at the reception and makes out with one of the band members. “PLAY FREEBIRD! WHOOOOO!!!”

    • alyce1213

How do these women walk around all night in shoes that are a size too large?  I’d be shuffling with foot cramps trying to keep them on my feet.
The saggy boobs and accessories are sad, which is a shame. I really like the dress itself — so summery and beautiful on a ginger.

    • EEKstl

She already looks pregnant so she should have ditched the hiddy too-large shoes and been barefoot as well.

    • MikeW_PHX

okay, when i first glanced at this post, I could have SWORN this was Nicole Kidman. But then I realized that Nicole would never wear Hot Pink suede pumps.

Who the f*ck is this child???

      • filmcricket

Clearly someone who saw “Enchanted” too many times. You saw Kidman, I saw Amy Adams in her princess phase.

    • MikeW_PHX

and a pedicure would have helped..  (not enough to make it OKAY.. but make it better)

    • http://twitter.com/ndpndntfilm Susan Velazquez

I don’t know what you guys have against mermaid hair but I think her hair is one of the few things that works. Re: the shoes, I think she was trying to pick up the pink in the print but she picked the wrong shade.

    • MissFern

      Who is this person?

    • Sara__B

On the model, the dress is almost empire-waisted. On Holland, it’s too long-waisted and tight (or maybe Holland is too short and has actual hips). Either way, Girl, this is not your dress.

    • unbornfawn

She looks hunched over. Posture dear. Posture.

      • meowing

Maybe she’s afraid of popping out of the top.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I think to make a strapless work, you need to be short through the shoulder — otherwise it just makes your bust look a) saggy or 2) like your dress is slipping.

    • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

My feet are sweating just looking at those shoes.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

and they’re too large, as well.  blisters!

    • SophieCollier

Well, all in all, she looks cute to me.  I agree about the warring pinks, but still, she looks sweet.  I absolutely LOVE the earrings.

    • guest2visits

I love the hot pink peep toes, but agree the black sandals would have been a better choice. I hate the bag, so anything else
would be nice. The dress itself is pretty but it’s doing what most strapless dresses do; drifting down.
And ‘gosh’ – she’s pretty; amazing skin.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1460694010 Beth Crawford

      She’s got on toeless hose!

      • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

No way…I think the line you see right above her toes is from them being scrunched down into shoes that are at least two sizes too big for her…which may be just as egregious.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

either the dress is too small, or she’s thewrong body type to wear it, as the beautiful waist details are lost on holland.  how old is she (as well as who tf is she?)  i can’t tell here.  somehow it seems she’s too old for the look, but yet she is beautiful with fresh young skin.  nice makeup.  i do like the peach bag and earrings and could go for some off pink shoes, but not magenta sueded.  maybe some gossamer iridescent sandals or ballet flats.  but not black.  if you’re gonna go fairy, you’ve got to commit!

    • Snailstsichr

I don’t know which is more painful – her posture or the shoes.

    • ThaliaMenninger

Is this that Honey Boo Boo people are talking about?

    • Susan Crawford

The dress is just not fitted well, and the proportions are wa-a-ay off. The waistline is scrunched up something fierce.

But please send over the earrings and the Minkoff as soon as possible – they are both fabulous.

    • tereliz

Ugh. I can’t get past the hot pink suede peep-toes. They’re too big to belong to her, right? So how many starlets have squished their toes into them before her to get them as dirty as they are? I’m not a neat freak or anything, but I can’t handle the thought of sticking my bare feet into shoes already worn by several strangers.

Cute dress, though. So cute, maybe someone should have realized that adding even cuter accessories was not the right choice.

    • http://www.facebook.com/katiewolf2002 Katie Wolf

Obv I agree with everything TL are saying. Let me add this: why isn’t she smiling? You dipped yourself in cotton candy, (or allowed yourself to be dipped) you are not hard. If you want to juxtapose your sugar-dress with something it should have been accessories/shoes, not a half-assed attempt at “bitch-face”.

Open note to stars & starlets of the world: today is my birthday; as a gift to me, stop the “bitch-face”. It doesn’t look pretty/hot/beautiful/mysterious/etc. it looks bitchy. Thank you.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

She’s so pretty but the dress is too Junior Prom.

    • ChristinaRi

This is why you should really stand up straight on the red carpet.
