Heidi Klum in MICHAEL Michael Kors

Posted on August 16, 2012

So…we guess animal print’s gonna be her thing now.

Heidi Klum unveils her Truly Scrumptious collection at Babies “R” Us in NYC in a MICHAEL Michael Kors caramel leopard print peasant dress paired with a Michael Kors belt and Alaïa sandals.

Of course, it’s not like Heidi ever shied away from animal prints in the past; it’s just that she’s really made them a go-to recently. Look at it this way: if you have a blouse or a skirt or a dress in an animal print, you can’t really be said to have a “thing” for it. If you have peasant dresses and mini-dresses, and maxi-skirts, and t-shirts, and blouses, and pajamas, and purses and shoes – all in animal prints? Honey, it’s a thing.

Go with it, we say. It’s a good idea to cultivate a style persona as you get older. Maybe she’ll be one of those outrageous 80-year-olds in head-to-toe animal prints and diamonds, spending her days being nasty to checkout girls and flirting with plumbers. There are worse goals in life.

Cher used to do an older woman character who wore all animal print.  I can’t remember her name.  She was kind of a rip off of Ernestine.  She would have worn this.  Which is to say.

      yuck

      • clatie

I think her name was LaVern.

      • MelVT

And there was also the great Edith Prickley.  Now there was a fashion icon.

        • clatie

I love her!  With the hat and little purse.

        • alyce1213

Bless Andrea Martin! Edith Prickley is classic.
Young’uns who don’t know from SCTV should look it up — it’s so funny.

      • Aurumgirl

That was LaVern!  I remember her!  Somehow a segment where she runs a spoon around the circumference of an ice cream container, mumbling something about that being dessert for the next three months, sticks in my mind.  There is also Andrea Martin’s Edith Prickley character, who was a top-to-toe leopard print diva.  If you were a kid in the 70’s, leopard print will never, ever be anything but comedic.

    • Judy_S

I swear when I read this the first time I saw “Barbies R Us.”

      • littlemac8

Me too!  I had to go back and look again.  Tee Hee

    • jmorino08

That dress looks like the bastard child of a Sex in the City and Little House on the Prairie one night stand. Cute shoes, though…

      • mellorcr

        Little Cougar on the Prairie?

        • ballerinawithagun

          Perfect!

          • DCSheehan

            I’d watch that show.

      • MissAnnieRN

        The shoes are definitely fab.

        • Spreecord

Did you actually look at the fit of the shoes? Going up a size wouldn’t have hurt her.

      • JuliaInBlack

        Little House on the Prairie?

    • elleg929

At least it’s not shiny and tight is the nices thing I can say about this getup.

      • Lori

Well, it’s a little tight, at least in spots. She’s got a sort of unfortunate thing going with the top digging in on the left side. That looks both painful and ugly. Not a good combo.

    • afabulous50

      …of course…

    • dschubba

      Ooh, baby, no.

      • http://twitter.com/janedonuts Jane Donuts

Yeah, this is mind-blowingly bad. Those shoes are hideous with that dress, and maybe just hideous in general.

        • dschubba

She looks like she’s auditioning for that show about swingers that went off the air a few years ago.

          • Lisa_Cop

Animal prints don’t have to be ugly. It depends on how they are cut and styled. Roberto Cavalli loves animal prints and does great ones every season. Dolce Gabbana also did a restrained, ruched cocktail dress in loepard for s/s 2012. These Kors’ dresses are just fugly-Wilma Flintstone and her granny maxi dress. Even Versace probably does animal prints. But Heidi, stick to southern Italian designers!!

    • HomeOfficeGirl

She looks good.  It’s odd to wear to a Babies R Us – but probably better than tight, short and shiny, right?  Great shoes!!

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

        removed by author, wrong thread

    • butterflysunita

No, no, Heidi.  Please don’t make this your thing.

    • Anna Maria Diamanti

That is the dowdiest animal print dress I have ever seen.

      • Vickiefantastico

Yes! It somehow ages her twenty years too.

    • SapphoPoet

I actually kinda like the dress, but it seems a little inappropriate for the venue. When she opens her line at “Cougars R Us,” she can wear it there.

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

she would fit right in at walmart, though.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

This would be haute couture for WalMart.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

This looks terrible on her. And another animal print dress worn by Heidi and designed by Michael where I say “Michael, WHY?”

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YAMNQMUGFM4NNSPAQLZRODSD5I Angela

I agree! And he should be glad he’s not sending it down the Project Runway catwalk! (Actually, I’d love to hear the designers critique this, they’d be saying, It’s Mother~of~the~Bride at Pebbles Flintstone’s wedding! And it would serve him right, yuck!)

        • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I totally thought “Wilma Flintstone” when I saw this, too.

    • DaringMiss

This outfit is so bad on so many levels.  The shoes make her feet look enormous.  The dress makes her look shapeless plus the ruffle on the bottom makes it look very home-ec (Shame on you MK).  And her makeup is not doing her any favors.  She looks exhausted.

      • http://www.facebook.com/RyanMWilliamson Ryan Williamson

I don’t know how you can blame the shoes for merely representing her feet as they are.

        • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I thought the same thing as DaringMiss. I have big-ish feet too, and the shoes you wear really can minimize or exaggerate them. These shoes aren’t doing her any favors.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

This is ridiculous looking. If a woman as beautiful as La Klum looks this bad, just imagine some lower form of human in it. It’s only redeeming quality is that it is not short, nor tight, nor shiny.

      • MaryMitch

Yeah, but it would look better without the ruffle at the bottom. It wouldn’t even be Heidi-short then.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Indeed it would. And while we’re about it, let’s take in the top a bit and close the shoulder line a trifle, so the sleeved side isn’t falling off her.

          • formerlyAnon

But you’re making it a different dress. A wearable and attractive one. For a Wilma in animal print.

          • LesYeuxHiboux

But then it wouldn’t have sex appeal! I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Heidi likes everything to be sexy.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Then what the HELL happened here? That thing would have gotten someone auffed on PR.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

To use one of Heidi’ favorite putdowns, this dress makes me feel sad…and it does not look expensive.  That’s two strikes on PR.

            • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

              Ouch! Take that Fräulein Klum!

            • librarygrrl64

Not with the judging of the past few seasons. If one of their little pets had designed it, it would have won.

    • http://twitter.com/sebwfu Shannon Beamer

This is hella unflattering.  Thing is, I’m not sure that the dress would look good on anybody (because it’s hideous).  God, I love those shoes, however.  Give them to me, Klum!

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

it IS hideous!  what was the duchess thinking?

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Every several years, some designer decides that animal prints are the way to go. It is always mystifying. Because they are almost always deeply unflattering.

          • formerlyAnon

Also, tacky. You left out tacky.

          • alyce1213

If this is a current Kors collection (Spring 2012, Fall 2012), isn’t he a little tardy anyway?

Weren’t animal prints trending high in 2010, 2011?  They never seem to go away completely, but sometimes there’s a surge. I hate them. Okay, maybe a pair of short gloves, or a little collar, but that’s it. That is it.

eta: This, in spite of my avatar.

            • formerlyAnon

              I endorse this position.

            • alyce1213

Thanks, I needed an endorsement. It’s been some day.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

I espouse the position that animal prints look best on…. animals.

            • alyce1213

              That too.

    • http://twitter.com/KristenMcMahon Kristen McMahon

I like the print and the dress, but it looks too big on her, and also too long. Though maybe my eye is thrown off because I’m used to her in shiny, short and tight dresses…

    • VioletFem

For an animal print dress this looks strangely dowdy. Love the shoes, though.

      • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

Right?! Whoda thunk the Duchess could have made a frumpy animal print dress.

    • ccinnc

Her face, hair, body, shoes are great. The dress is hideous, maybe because of that gargantuan ruffle. Or not.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

I keep thinking “Sheena Queen of the Jungle” but that’s a good thing, right? Who doesn’t love a queen?

      • alyce1213

I love her. When I was a very, very little girl my mother made me a Sheena Queen of the Jungle costume for a party. It was much nicer than this dress.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

What IS her “Truly Scrumptious Collection”? Short, tight, & shiny for infants? I am trying not to be scared.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m afraid-one shouldered animal print onesies for little ones? PLease, no.

    • MilaXX

This is making me miss the short, tight and shiney. What an ugly dress.

    • schadenfreudelicious

      Tarzan meet Heidi…..

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

      That is one ugly dress…

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

she looks especially stupid next to all that baby pink…like a cougar about to devour all those truly scrumptious babies.

      • formerlyAnon

I owe you for the laugh.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Animal prints are pretty much the opposite of my thing, but damn if she didn’t pick the perfect shoes.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BMEASIKJSVE6YP3DE2VLJA5CUU JulieJ

I actually hate the shoes.  They look like a gold toned rash.

      • TheOriginalLulu

Same here. I think they’re ugly as hell.

    • miagain

“Truly Scrumptious” for Babies R US, and she’s wearing animal print…munch munch

    • IMNAngryLiberal

Wow, this dress is hideous in so many ways (I think that about sooo many Michael Kors dresses).  I like the shoes, but they don’t appear to fit–red toenail polish really makes it show up when your big toe and the sole of the shoe part company, don’t you think?

    • Kayceed

It’s kind of hilarious. That flounce! I’m not exactly sure why, but I’m thinking of those Charlie perfume commercials of yesteryear.

    • call_me_schmeg

yep, tlo, all she needs is a white wine spritzer and a pack of virginia slims for accessories.

      • l_c_ann

Wine spritzer, Virginia Slims AND oversized red sunglasses with rims of rhinestones.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

        OH, SNAP!!

    • http://twitter.com/watchinginkdry Krysta

Love the ring/bracelet thing. That’s a shockingly dowdy animal-print dress, though.

    • PrunellaV

Eh. She looks wan. But it’s kind of fun how the patterning of the sandals echoes the leopard print.

    • melanie0866

YUCK YUCK YUCK.  She’s so gorgeous and that dress is SO AWFUL.  Little House on the Prairie meets Tarzan.  YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1380079551 Marie Dees

All I keep thinking is “slut on top, Mom on the bottom.”  It’s the flounce that throws the whole thing off. And the shape. I’d give the Duchess hell, except I know women who will buy it.

    • http://twitter.com/mirrormirrorxx Paola Thomas

Heidi is morphing into Bet Lynch, erstwhile busty barmaid from Coronation Street, all brassy highlights and leopard skin…

      • schadenfreudelicious

lol, all she needs is a blonde beehive and a pint of bitter!

    • mjude

i am not a fan of the animal prints.  nice shoes

    • http://www.facebook.com/katiewolf2002 Katie Wolf

Why did someone sneak up and attach a dust ruffle to the bottom of her dress when she wasn’t looking and without Michael Kors’ permission? (Please let that be what happened)

    • Rand Ortega

So Heidi went from animal print pajamas to animal print nightgown. They’re both ill fitting & slouchy. OUT.

    • Kim O’Neill

I am currently collecting all things animal print so I can PILE IT ON in my dotage…

    • Karen Tully

“Animal Print” and “Peasant Dress” should NEVER be in the same sentence.

      • mhleta

        Kind of like “Overalls” and…everything.

      • kimmeister

I was thinking that the only sentence in which “leopard” and “peasant” can be together would be something like “the leopard at the peasant.”

    • SewingSiren

You have to go with either leopard or peasant . Not both.

    • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

I wonder if she’s trying to send a message that she’s ready for action — COUGAR!

    • formerlyAnon

Because I have slammed her over and over for skin tight and shiny, I have to just shut up about this one, however much it hurts, right? (I think this may put a couple of my internal organs in danger due to the strain.)

Those are nice shoes, Ms. Klum.

      • alyce1213

Who says you have to shut up?  This is a whole new category.  Wail away.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Great!  Now I can’t get “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” out of my head:  Truly Scrumptious,Though we may seem presumptuous,Never, never, ever go away,Our hearts beat so unruly, Because we love you truly, Honest Truly, we do.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Anyone else find it funny that she’s the cougar with four kids in front of a “Babies’R’Us” backdrop? Nope, just me? Okay, then.

    • http://www.MintaHall.com/ Minta Hall

How can an animal print look frumpy?  It looks like it’s about a size too big. It’s just not flattering on her.

OTOH, Love the shoes and love the makeup. Hair is simple but very pretty.

    • Judy_J

Nothing screams “cougar on the prowl” louder than animal prints.  I can’t believe this is a Michael Kors design.  It looks like something you’d see on the sale rack at WalMart.

      • alyce1213

I’m pretty sure I actually saw it in the window of Forever 21 this past spring.

    • BobStPaul

She looks great – from the neck up.  That is one ugly dress.

    • Susan Crawford

“The Truly Scrumptious Collection”? Really, Heidi?

Tiny leopard print, one-shouldered swaddling clothes, I assume.

    • http://surelysonsy.blogspot.com/ Jessica | Surely Sonsy

yuk. that is all. i guess i like the sandals tho.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

kors designed that hideous, one armed, amateurish, bottom ruffled thing? kors? maybe he just okayed it. either way, it’s one of the worst little numbers to bear his name that i’ve ever seen.

      • l_c_ann

This is the same Kors who stood by while Anya won PR last season.
        (And this has ONE sleeve!)

    • Kyle Crawford

A word that I very rarely use : But I HATE this dress – every bad design from the 70’s -80’s put in a tumbler and spit out – yuck!

    • mhleta

Here’s a good rule of thumb: Cougars should never wear other cougars. I love her shoes, though, and she looks happy and well rested, which is no small thing considering her busy x 1000 life.

      • mhleta

Here’s another rule of thumb: If you can squint and see Mrs. Roper wearing it, then it’s a bad idea.

    • http://twitter.com/lemonfreshmoxie Donna Lee

      #girlno

    • ScarlettHarlot

My theory – she is draping herself in animal print now that she no longer has a Seal to wrap herself up in.

    • ri_dic

One more example of- just because it has a designer’s name on it, doesn’t mean it’s not crap. I’ve seen better looking dresses at Chicos.

    • Tamara Hogan

That dress would be cuter without the prairie-skirt flounce, but I think it’s a vast improvement over her typical short-tight-shiny.

    • j_anson

Leopard-print peasant dress. I’m just going to say that in my head a couple of times in befuddlement. Leopard-print. Peasant dress. LEOPARD-print. PEASANT DRESS.

      Christ.

    • meowing

Unfortunately, all I see is Wilma Flintstone, just like her runway look last week.  She’s so pretty, maybe she’s trying to go more edgy as she gets older (akin to those pajamas from 2 weeks ago on the runway)

    • alyce1213

Maybe I’m just a cockeyed optimist, or deeply in denial, I don’t know — but every time I see a celebrity, actress, model in a thoroughly tasteless and/or ridiculous outfit, my first thought is “Aw come on, they’re just fooling around, right?”

Then reality sets in.  I don’t expect to like everything that every “fashionista” wears, but some things are just unexplainable and inexcusable.

      This, for example.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

She killed a cheetah and then made a Little House on the Prairie dress out of it.  Then the cheetah’s mate came along and ripped her sleeve off. In a life and death struggle for survival, Heidi turned her Kohl Rimmed Eyes upon the cheetah mate and screeched “YOU’RE OUT!” which made the cheetah’s head explode.  Heidi then made another dress for Michael Kors to wear to the prom.

    • VRuss

I love the print on Heidi and it goes really well with her coloring. I just find the dress a little frumpy somehow. Looooove the shoes!

    • snarkykitten

nothing related to babies should bear the word “scrumptious”

    • ChristinaRi

My guess is that Seal didn’t care for animal prints, and made a comment when she wore one.  Now, she likes to wear them just as a little — “I can do what I want.”

    • crash1212

The dress isn’t too tight. That’s all I got.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QYNAGYILEHAIYAZP2BEIPGJJIQ Cindy

I immediately thought of Wilma Flintstone when I saw this dress on Heidi.

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Wow, no one seems to like the dress. I really don’t mind it. I like it a helluva lot better than the one she wore on PR last week which just looked so much like Jane’s outfit from Tarzan that I couldn’t get past it. This one looks pretty especially when she is sitting down. And like you said, there are worse things than having animal prints be your thing.

    • kikisayshi

I have to think that MK would make some comment about her looking as if she was mauled and stole the cheetah’s pelt, if this dress were to walk down the PR runway.

    • Call me Bee

Well–she actually loks quite pretty here, despite the weird leopard dress.  Cool shoes!

I am dismayed, though, not because she is wearing this dress, but that MK would actualy design and manufacture such a dress!  That’s the thing that is killing my brain.

    • VicksieDo

      HID EEE USSSS!!!!!

    • http://twitter.com/thesquizz Lauren

Inappropriate. Her animal print dress is falling off at a CHILDREN’S line debut.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

      Terrible, terrible, terrible.

    • defyingcreon

I’m pretty confident the words “leopard print” and “peasant dress” never EVER belong in the same sentence together. When they must be thrown together, what one gets is exactly what one sees Ms. Heidi wearing – something entirely hideous.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

HATE one-sleeved dresses!  Especially when the one sleeve is long-sleeved.  And it’s just a fugly frock.  The shoes, however, are cool.

    • emcat8

That is quite possibly the ugliest dress I’ve ever seen. Which is saying a lot, since I’ve been reading TLo for years.

    • susan6

Oh, Heidi, no.   Please don’t be one of those divorced women around 40 who are all about being cougars.  The dress isn’t even that flattering.  And with a dress that busy, you don’t need shoes that are busy too.

Is “truly scrumptious” (a tad cougar-tastic of a title) a new jewelry line?  Or clothes for children?  You’d think if she’s shilling something, it would prominently feature in the pictures….

    • nannypoo

She managed to find an off-the-shoulder dress that’s frumpy. Without resorting to a muu-muu that’s not easy to do.

    • guest2visits

That giant animal print ruffle is awful. There’s something about ‘ruffle’, and ‘animal print’, that seems too incompatible.
The off shoulder sleeve seems incompatible with a kid’s toy store too. It looks like a kid’s Flintstones bedsheet made into a dress.
      Beautiful shoes though.

    • ccm800

      cute strappy shoes

    • Julie Fountain

Didn’t the Duchess give Anya ten kinds of shit about making a dress that had one bare arm and one long sleeve?

    • plinkiedoodle

This is just tacky and awful on every single level.  Hate it!  Dig the shoes though.

    • ChelseaNH

I’m just astonished that she’s wearing a peasant dress and covering her knees.  Perhaps that’s why she had to sit down — her knees were gasping for air.

    • marilyn

Maybe I’m too matchy-matchy here, but the fact that the dark vertical lines in the animal print don’t match up from bodice to skirt annoys me.  I assume that MK charges a lot for his clothes.  The least he can do is waste a LITTLE fabric so those lines match up.   And that is the difference between good home sewing and bad home sewing.

I don’t fault Heidi-she looks good in most everything.  And, she has yet to take a bad picture.  She ALWAYS knows where the camera is, and she is always posed for it.

    • DaveUWSNYC

All I saw in the beginning was “truly scrumptious babies…”

    • Amy Ellinger

One of the cutest things she’s worn in years.  Keep this look- it totally works.

    • mommyca

I don’t know, the first thing I thought when I saw the pictures on another site (without knowing whose dress was it), was “how convenient she found a one-sleeve dress to cover her Seal tattoo in her arm”…. but that’s just me….

    • http://twitter.com/AmberAndronicus Fucking A.

      No.

    • rh33

Kardashian Kollection: Been there, done that.

    • MrsKrause

She looks like Little Cougar on the Prairie.  In leopard print.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m sorry-that is just tragic-a Wilma Flintstone granny dress? No, No, No.

    • bellafigura1

Also, the whole thing, hair, dress, nails, shoes — she’s been watching too much Real Housewives of Orange County.

    • granddelusion

      Boy, I’m tired of her.

    • margaret meyers

Her shoes are genius — just the right scale and not matchy.

    • quiltrx

Looks like something (in a different, more demure print, of course) that Marie would have worn on the Donny and Marie show.  Ick.

    • Thathoodwink

      I love those shoes!

    • ASK26

      It looks so sloppy

    • librarygrrl64

      A one-sleeved, cheetah-print peasant dress???? I just can’t with this.

This is horrible but it does explain her unreasonable love for that one shoulder atrocity last night on PR.

Is she announcing that she is a “cougar”? This look is so horrible, words can’t describe. An aminal print Wilma dress in a peasant style! OH HONEY NO

I like the look. I just HATE those big ruffles that some designers put on the hem, they really take away from a dress.
