Gossip Girl: Leighton Meester in Jason Wu

Posted on August 21, 2012

Oh, we were going to critique this and tell her that this isn’t Her Dress, but like we’ve said in the past, these on-set pics are terribly misleading and you never really know what the clothes are going to look like in the final shot.

Leighton Meester filming ‘Gossip Girl’ in New York City. Leighton Meester is wearing a Jason Wu dress paired with a Giada Forte cardigan and a Bulgari bag.

But we have to say, our first impulse was, “Oooooh. That ain’t good.”

Giada Forte Belted Cardigan

Bulgari Isabella Rossilini Chevron Handbag

But you know what? We were wrong. It actually looks very good on her. That color really suits her. Obviously the flip-flops aren’t part of the costume, but we really hope the cardigan isn’t either. It’s a cute cardigan, but it really frumps down the dress.

      In total agreement.

That dress has to stand alone.  (And who would guess that that matchy bag costs more than 3K?)

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

$350 sweater, $3400 handbag, who knows how much for the dress and she’s wearing $2 CVS flip flops. I hope she changed shoes for the final shot.

I love the dress. I love the color and shape and trim. Actually, if she had cute turquoise flats to wear with it, it would be perfect.

      • LesYeuxHiboux

They usually wear the Uggs and flip-flops for shots that stay above the knees.

      • http://twitter.com/HeckYeahHeckNo KC

I’m assuming she did. I can’t imagine Blair wearing cheap flip flops. But these were probably very comfortable for Leighton.

    • Clueless_Jock

      It’s a bit Halloweenish, I think.

      • http://magnetgirl.tumblr.com Anika

Gossip Girl premieres October 8 so Halloween is fine. I think the dress is really cute.

      • kimmeister

With the cardigan and bag, it reads very autumnal.

I need to see this baby with some heels, which — admittedly — will probably happen in the final shot.  For right now, the dress — along with that cardigan and the “I’m in between takes” flip flops – make her look a little dumpy (which she is not).  No bueno.

    • Tatiana Luján

      HATE that hem.

      • Squarah

Not a fan of handkerchief hems or just not on this dress?

        • Tatiana Luján

Not a fan of handkerchief hems  in general.

    • Sobaika

Great dress, good for her coloring.

I sort of love these behind-the-scenes shots. You always end up with couture paired with Uggs and flip flops.

      • AmandaCathleen

Me too! It’s sort of reassuring to know that these actresses don’t actually run around in 5-inch stilettos for 12 hours a day. (Makes me feel better about not doing that myself.) ;)

    • piecesofconfetti

I think maybe it would suit her more with her hair down (though not obscuring the dress detail, of course). But I can dig it – once she puts on the real shoes, of course.

    • TheOriginalLulu

It’s definitely a great color for her, but what I want to say is that I LOVE that handbag. LOVELOVELOVE.
I’m not going to even look at the price, so as not to have my poor girl’s heart broken.

      • Sobaika

        It’s very Megan Calvet.

I can take or leave the dress, but I am with you I love that bag!

      • DesertDweller79

Hey, it’s a lot less expensive than the bowling bag Christina Hendricks was carrying.

    • Myra C

Is that Amy Heckerling standing next to her in the last picture?

      • formerlyAnon

I don’t know (though it looks enough like her you could convince me) but are those WALLABEES she’s wearing? Is this an idiosyncratic hold out or are they going to be coming back?

I had completely forgotten them, which is surprising considering that during junior high and freshman year I wore them almost exclusively (unless I had to wear a dress). Till I discovered clogs and my mom let me start wearing platforms.

        (edited for leaving out words)

    • MilaXX

It looks like a tv version of a working gal. The sweater is to combat the office AC and the flip flops are what she changed into when she left the office. The killer pumps she wore are stashed in the bag.
      Fanwanking aside, I like this.

      • Amy Ellinger

and the guys passing her on the street are thinking “She is so damn pretty.”

    • Little_Olive

Love that dress! My hips couldn’t carry it though (that shape tends to emphasize saddlebags) but then neither can my wallet, so we’re ok.

    • marilyn

Not only does the cardigan frump down the dress, what about that granny purse, that looks like it is plastic from the dime store?

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

Maybe the dress only shows from the knees up. I really hate the hem.

    • librarygrrl64

      I love all three pieces!

    • BrooklynBomber

I know it’s ridiculous to despise the hem of a dress, but I despise that hem.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

WANTS THE DRESS! WANTS THE PRECIOUSSSSSS!

    • http://twitter.com/ndpndntfilm Susan Velazquez

I wish I could own all of the Jason Wu collection.

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

havent watched gossip girl in ages, but the blair i remember wouldnt be caught dead in this getup, especially with the cardigan on.

    • Rand Ortega

Love the entire ensemble (sans flip flops). The color, the proportions, that bag– wonderfully autumnal. I may have to actually watch the episode to see what shoes they choose (black, orange or brown/beige?).

    • kimmeister

Hunh, so that’s what Isabella Rossellini has been up to lately.  Who knew?

    • nannypoo

I like the dress. The bag is butt-ugly.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

They’ve been putting her in orange so much lately, but it suits. I bet she just threw on a random cardigan for warmth between takes.

    • Anathema_Device

Love that dress, even with the handkerchief hem, which I usually don’t care for. I am assuming she is standing there, waiting for them to set the shot, get the lighting right, etc., which explains the cardigan and flip flops.

    • Violina23

I kind of adore the dress [obviously without the cardigan which covers everything of interest].

Scratch that, I REALLY adore the dress…. I’m not small, but that is a style that I think could be flattering on anyone.

Okay, I just plain WANT that dress.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

      Love that purse.

    • aeg66

I’m sure the cardigan was meant to keep her warm between shots. In NYC a lot of shows shoot real early in the AM to avoid the traffic, etc.
As for the flops..if there are not feet in the shots many many actors wear comfy shoes.

    • Anne At Large

Eh on everything else, the bag made me gasp. The price almost made me take it back, but as a platonic bag ideal, it can stay in my mental closet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1551171308 Gali Golan

BAG. WANT. NOW. It’s a bit match-y with the dress, but would look gorgeous on my own personal arm.

    • VioletFem

I only clicked on the thumbnail to this post because I thought she was Juliane Moore.

    • Susan Crawford

I like all three pieces: the dress is really great; the cardi is also fabulous (but not with the dress – definitely with a great pair of skinny or straight-leg pants, though); and the bag . . . the bag is on my “when-I-win-Lotto-fashion-wishlist”. Sigh. There’s something about Bottega Veneta . . . .

    • holdmewhileimnaked

it’s a pretty dress & it’s even okay w/ the zoris if & when the sweater’s gone. but i am way more curious about the person beside her in the bottom photograph.

    • http://twitter.com/thesquizz Lauren

Nothing about Leighton Meester ever captured me (I’d never have been able to pick her out of a line up); however, in these shots, I must say, she looks very pretty. I think it’s the genuine smile she is showing. That plus the flip flops make her seem more relate-able.

    • http://twitter.com/Knitsib Knitsib

Those are post-pedi flip flops, so she’s probably just out of the chair.

Great dress, utterly ruined by a handkerchief hem.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y3OY6COEVBS2STNCUNIRZ3COUE Claudia

Oh my me, she looks like Juliette Moore!  Juliette Moore?  Is that the person I’m thinking of…?

      • holdmewhileimnaked

        julianne, i think.

    • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

…Gossip Girl is still around? God, I’m old.

    • http://twitter.com/HeckYeahHeckNo KC

I wish you guys would fashioncap Gossip Girl from season 1 and beyond. There’s a lot of pretty going on there and a lot of cray cray going on as well!

    • tereliz

Oh, man. I’m in love with the dress and the bag. I’m 5’8″, so the skirt of that dress will look better on me than Leighton, right? RIGHT?!

    • maggiemaybe

Great dress and she is a gorgeous girl. She kind of looks like a brunette Julianne Moore to me.

    • Nels Highberg

Do we know how far into the future this next season is set?  The summer after last year?  A year later?  I’m wondering if Blair is dressing for Waldorf Designs.
