Elizabeth Olsen for Bullett Magazine

Posted on August 30, 2012

We always hold out hope that style-averse or style-deficient stars  – like Elizabeth here, who falls somewhere smack in the middle of those two descriptions – will get a really interesting and bold editorial thrown their way and it will somehow spur on a style surge in their brains; like they just need a little injection to get their style synapses firing. It almost never happens, of course. Starlets get dressed up in the most eye-popping couture and then go right back to boring little cocktail dresses for the red carpet. Time after time.

Still, maybe if we all clap really hard, Lizzy will realize how well these looks suit her and how amazing she looks in them. If we all wish really hard, maybe we can use our powers for good, darlings. We’ll know if it worked the next time she makes a public appearance. Until then, enjoy the pretty.

Beautiful but the shortest wig is distracting.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/XAFAJ53QF3DLEFQB3WTLMRM75E MarinaB

That wig, UGH.  It looks like she stole a My Little Pony’s tail for that thing.

    • In_Stitches

I normally hate pink and Chanel, but damn she’s working that sweater gown.

    • SewingSiren

Very nice. The whole package is very entertaining. The only thing that could have improved it would be the use of an actual model.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

These are beautiful, but weird at the same time. And that’s a good thing.

    • Vickiefantastico

Love the Alexander McQueen dress! I want it!

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Me, too. It’s like a milk maid on acid.

    • Sobaika

The pink hair looks really very cute on her, but what’s with the choppy blunt ends?

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

That Balmain dress is beyond gorgeous on her. Amid the softness of lighting, pattern and texture that dominates these photographs, the careful precision of that pattern and silhouette really stand out.

      • semirose

Agreed, that one is so stunning. Everything about it just works.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

You managed to pick my fave, as well. Out of this grouping, it’s the one with the most impact and presence.

        • raininmai

I agree with you, but if she wore it on the red carpet I think we’d all agree that it’s too short. I think the Chanel dress is stunning on her as well.

          • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

It’s short but makes up for it with a high neck and long sleeves.

            • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

It’s beautiful, but I don’t think she could sit down in it.

      • Tamara Hogan

         OMG, that BALMAIN. Awesome.

      • olsonam

Agreed.  I don’t comment too much but I just have to say I love that Balmain.  The style wouldn’t suit me at all but I still wish I had somewhere to go where I could wear it.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

A lot here is great looking. I love the Balmian and the McQueen. Though I’m not on board with he cheesy pink wigs on her. I realize we are about to be inundated with a barrage of pastels (shuddering). It has been decreed that they are back. This is a harbinger, thereof.

    • Judy_J

OMG….that Balmain dress is to die for!

      • HomeOfficeGirl

Yes!  Love that like crazy!!  Tho I am NO fan, Kristen Stewart is going to need a coming out dress eventually and she could probably kill it.

    • mjude

ice cream, cotton candy, & frosting

    • Clueless_Jock

Nice clothes but that wig cheapens everything.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

In the first picture I thought she was one of the Fanning sisters.

      • l_c_ann

I knew she was somebody’s sister, Fannings seemed a logical fit.

      • charlotte

Me, too! I was going to say…Elizabeth Fanning?

    • Vanja

“Jem…Jem is excitement!Oooo Jem… Jem is adventure! Ooooo…Glamour and glitter, fashion and fame!”

      • Yinzerella Yinzerella

I thought the exact same thing!

    • CassieLee22

      gorgeous clothes but the wigs…….

    • butterflysunita

I like that these shots really show the clothes.  Which many fashion editorials don’t do, for some reason.

    • kimmeister

I love what I can see of the Marchesa dress.  Also love the shoulder/neck treatment on the Dior, even though I don’t like the sheer on the bottom.

      • ballerinawithagun

The top and the bottom definitely do not belong together. Hate the see through tulle.

    • Vodeeodoe

Those cheap looking wigs ruin the shoot for me. Wigs that looked like actual hair would have made it fantastic (sans that tulle number). I’d totally wear that Balmain dress – as a shirt.

      • raininmai

I’m one of the few who likes the pink wigs, except the very short one with the McQueen. The rest of them complement the looks and her fair coloring.

    • leftcoastpickle

Wow, the Balmain dress made me swear out loud. She’s pretty.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/QK3MTAHUVJCMI7DANY6WFCAIUM n a

meh. kept thinking, which one is Mary Kate.. again?  Can never tell those two apart…

    • SapphoPoet

I don’t like the pink hair, but the clothing is beautiful. That’s the look she should go for.

    • call_me_schmeg

i adore all this pinky ice princessness going on here. so i’m going to make a compliment sandwich to say the thing i really want to say:
      oooh! pink hair!
      her nose freaks me out.
      lurve that balmain!

    • http://www.facebook.com/heathermcouch Heather Couch

      Girl. Hire that stylist IMMEDIATELY.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NMLK23QK6C7NMLMVVYA5POXKJY WhiteMage

the wigs are too fake looking. it looks like it’s the prom photoshoot of final fantasy 13′s pink haired heroines lightning and serah.

    • http://twitter.com/taijuuuh Taija Hurri

She looks like a Fanning sister in the first picture. Can you imagine? The Olsens and the Fannings combine to make the ultimate, bland teen starlet. Next step, WORLD DOMINATION!

      • jenno1013

        Olfnings!  Fansens!

    • LesYeuxHiboux

The first shot makes her look like Chloe Moretz, the rest make her look remarkable. This is lovely, but it seems a bit wintery, no?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1013443339 Hannah Prutton

      AHHH LOVE HER

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I want that last white dress.   So very very pretty.

    • SpcilK

      STUNNING!

    • alyce1213

The clothes are mostly stunning but I can’t get past the really bad pink wings, which are not even seated (?) properly on her head.  I’d also like to see more than one-and-a-half facial expressions.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RHLSUVX3NCPB4OSS5BM7GZIXUE P. Capet

i love it when a created world comes to life and it makes you dream. beautiful.

    • AuntieAnonny

She needs that bob. It’s so pretty.

    • MilaXX

This  is really pretty. I won’t hold my breath that she’ll change her RC style. Dressing dowdy seems to be in the Olsen DNA.

    • foxspirit

I hate her hair but that Balmain looks amazing on her.

    • Araina23

      Not feeling it at all.

    • another_laura

Love the Balmain. The McQueen is so disappointing, it looks like something I would have whipped up on the old Singer in a few hours when I was in high school.

I am way over pink hair which is too bad because truth be told it really works in this editorial. Too bad that for me, it’s like 6 months past its use-by date.

    • turtleemily

      They made her Katy Perry.

    • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

She is so beautiful to me. Love the shot with the Siriano jacket.

    • jenno1013

I’m digging the fakey wigs but more as hats than hair.  Not hats, but like what a turban does when it covers all the hair.  Headcovering, not meant to look like real hair.  /inarticulate.

The white Chanel is my favorite only because the Balmain is too amazing for actual life.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610791985 Aniela Marie Perry

I can’t get past that awful, ill-fitting wig.

    • http://profiles.google.com/shannonlstewart Shannon Stewart

I wonder if it’s weird for her when stylists or editors want to use her sisters’ stuff.  I can tell you my sisters would find it bizarre if they ever had to buy something of mine.

    • lucasuk82

The individual pieces and styling don’t do that much for me, but the overall vision is gloriously ethereal.  Did anyone else notice Ted Gibson did the hair?  I love his appearances on What Not To Wear.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Oh me too! Isn’t he the sweeetest?

    • guest2visits

The wigs take away from the overall pretty.

    • ballerinawithagun

I’m loving the hair in the whole pink scheme of things. Love the Balmain. She should have that haircut in her normal color for every day.

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

These manage to be ethereal AND pink without being cotton candy. It’s a beautiful editorial. I love the white Chanel and I like that final Dior a lot, even with the see-thru tulle, but that Balmain is holy-shit-worthy. It’s stunning.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

Back lighting the Dior skirt took a lovely traditional silhouette straight to slutland.

    • Monabel

      Vacuous expression.

    • PeaceBang

This look confuses me: what is it? Random pretty stuff with cotton candy anime wig?
She looks like a character from one of those Rankin-Bass Christmas specials. Maybe a high-fashion doll on the Island of Misfit Toys.

    • quiltrx

They REALLY picked well for this editorial…I remember almost all of these from their respective collections, and in a good way.  This is very cool.

    • http://twitter.com/grooxcore Marie Ee

      Violet Beauregard realness.

    • Jean-Luc Bresson

I’ll add to that chorus of Balmain dress praisers. So beautiful.

    • http://the-afterimage.blogspot.com/ lae

that wig looks like it’s sitting rather terribly on her head in some of the shots, but I love the first one c:

    • Bree The Vole

She looks really lovely here. I must say though, my first thought when seeing this was “this is Allison Harvard’s editorial”.

    • knockknockknockpenny

Omg in the Balmain she is revolutionary girl utena!!!!

    • Verascity

Too distracted by the terrible wig, I’m afraid.

    • http://janeaustensworld.wordpress.com/ Vic

Naw. Will never happen. She looks uncomfortable in every pic.

    • http://lizaster.myopenid.com/ lizaster

Can anyone give me more info about the Balmain?  I don’t see it in their fall 2013.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

        Lizaster,

The dress is from the Pre-Fall 2012 Collection: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/slideshow/2012PF-BALMAIN/#22

        • http://lizaster.myopenid.com/ lizaster

          Thank you!!

    • http://profiles.google.com/dorothymichael Dorothy & Michael n/a

She and I are in the same movie!  Well, I’m in it for three seconds, and she’s the co-star.  Still … it was cool seeing her in person last summer when they were filming the movie here. She has more acting talent than both of her sisters do, all rolled up together.
