David Beckham for Esquire UK Magazine

Posted on August 02, 2012

Darlings, we went out for a very delicious, but fairly heavy meal last night. We’re telling you this because very delicious, very heavy meals like that tend to leave us both with food hangovers and we’re finding ourselves incredibly sluggish and slightly cranky this morning.

Thankfully, we have David Beckham to ease the pain. Not literally, of course. As far as we know, he’s still living with Vicki in a house made entirely out of mirrors. We just mean we have him to stare at and now we’re passing that on to you. It’s a lovely way to start the day, don’t you find?

David Beckham covers the September 2012 issue of Esquire UK magazine photographed by Josh Olins.

On how he wants to be remembered:
“Just as a hard-working footballer. I want to be remembered firstly as a good and successful footballer because that’s what I’ve done for many years. And then who knows after that?”

On taking his clothes off for photo shoots:
“It’s definitely got easier over the years, but when I was in New York, seeing a huge poster [of himself in a pair of briefs] on the side of a building, that was quite daunting. I remember driving past there, and stopping and running out and taking a picture, and this guy walked past me and he was like, ‘Oh, my God! Have you seen your d**k up there?’ Something disgusting like that. That was funny.”

On his friendship with the royal family:
“It’s a very normal relationship. With Harry as well. They’re very easy to get along with. They love their sport. William loves Aston Villa, unfortunately, which obviously I give him a bit of stick about.”

But he really does only have one facial expression.

    It’s a glorious facial expression.

I was about to post, with a face like that, who cares if that’s his blue steel :)

        Blue Steel. Ditto.

God Bless that man.  And his one facial expression.  Although he was ridiculously sexy driving that boat with that smile on his face during the opening ceremonies.  I don’t think I could ever tire of him.

  • Maria Rosenfire

Wait, he has a face? I’d honestly never bothered to check.

    • NICHOLAS PASQUALE

      Amen, sista.

Second Pic: the combination of a many pounds sterling sweater (and jeans) with barbecue is causing me cognitive dissonance.

Listen, I really find him gorgeous, well dressed etc, but what’s up  with the frown in all the pictures? Really, is he that tired of posing for pretty pictures?

  • kingderella

haha, david looks cranky, too ^^

  • Judy_J

    ….and way too much ink.

    • RebeccaKW

       Not for me!

      • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

Me either!  My husband has lots of ink and will get even more.  My only requests are no tats north of his collar and nothing on his hands.  Everywhere else is game.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=677547537 John Hodgins

Yay!  Finally people sticking up for those of us with lots of tattoos!  Yay!  :-)

          • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

I always will, too.  I have to say that some of our greatest entertainment is watching peoples’ reactions to him (he also has a long goatee), especially when they figure out what a kind and loving person he is.

          • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

I loooove the ink! Full sleeves are so hot if they’re nicely executed.

          • http://profiles.google.com/ameliaheartsu Amelia Logan

I was thinking I don’t like the way they end with that exact line at his wrist otherwise I like tattoos

        • RebeccaKW

           I have the same rules.  Not b/c I don’t like them, but b/c I require a man with a job.  :)

    • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Pfft, not at all.  I love tattoos and a nicely built tattooed fella.  Hell, I don’t care if a dude is tatted or not if he’s well-built, but it helps if he’s got nice artwork.  Not a fan of stickers.

    • Vickiefantastico

Well, I agree with you! I’m sorry I don’t find all of those tattoos sexy at all.

  • http://twitter.com/patrickrohan94 Patrick Rohan

I somewhat unfortunately must say I think he looks FAR too old for that styling. At least 10years too much so. That shirt in the cover photo is much more suited to the Taylor Lautner / Zac Efron generation.

    • Deac82

really?  A plaid shirt and jeans is what I consider to be classic and ageless.

      • Jacqueline Wessel

        He’s a lumberjack and he’s OK…

  • http://anthagio.com Anthagio

He can do no wrong in my eyes.

    • Le_Sigh

Except when you hear his not so sexy speaking voice.

I guess that’s what mute buttons are for.

      • http://profiles.google.com/denise.alden Denise Alden

I know, right?  The first time I heard him speak I couldn’t believe it!  The attraction went way down, and then, it sort of seemed sweet, this gorgeous specimen sounding like a bit of a dingbat.  He came off as shy and sweet and simple (not stupid, just simple) and that was really lovely.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

His voice makes him more human, I think-when I first heard him speak I immediately got that he saw himself as a bloke who played football.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

        He speaks? Didn’t notice.

Although Mrs. Posh’s response to this subject is right on.

        • TheOriginalLulu

What did she say about it?

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

That she sees him and doesn’t care about his voice and something lie “you did good for yourself girl”….

      • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

Mute buttons, or, if given the opportunity, ball gags. Oh my, I just made myself a little drooly thinking about Mr. Beckham a lot drooly.

      • http://anthagio.com Anthagio

        I like his voice.

      • Vickiefantastico

Yes! I have always felt that way about him. He’s nice to look at, but as soon as he opens his mouth, it’s all over for me. I’ve always felt a little like a jerk for feeling that way, but oh well.

  • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

He has one of those faces that gets more interesting (and therefore handsome) as he gets older.

    • TheOriginalLulu

Yes! I generally think that the lines in a person’s face are what gives it character and I don’t necessarily see “wrinkles” as a bad thing. On a hot man like him, the more weathered his face, the more rugged and sexy he looks.

      • Scarlet39

I agree, I didn’t find DB attractive at all when he was younger.   He was too “pretty” for my taste.  Now, I think he’s gorgeous!

  • Ann Harste

They say the longer couples are married the more they begin to look alike . . .

    • jtabz

       HA!

  • homofascist

I feel your pain about the heavy meal – that was me yesterday. As far as Mr. Posh, he continues to be ‘meh’ in my book, although I loved the video of him surprising people in the photo booth before the Olympics.

    • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

Oh my god, I just looked up that video, and it was adorable. I couldn’t care one way or another about him before, but he seems to truly be a sweet guy.

Not too hard on the eyes, either.

  • http://www.thirteen.org/downton-abbey/category/the-downton-dish/ Gotham Tomato

It’s really a shame the way he’s let himself go.

    Thank you

  • yulaffin

“But he really does only have one facial expression.”

    Just like The Vickster!

  • kikisayshi

    I’m a little melty inside…

  • MilaXX

He’s very pretty. Nice way to start the day.

  • ASK26

Oh my that first inside picture with him in the chair…. his right thigh muscles are so pronounced, it looks like he is wearing jeggings on the right leg and jeans on the left.

Interesting that the quote talks about him as a footballer…. I’d have expected to see something about being a father.

  • PastryGoddess

Who’s looking at his face :)

  • Alisa Rivera

I don’t normally get my chime rung by tatooed pretty boys with too much ink but he always manages to bang that gong for me. I think it’s because whenever I see him with his kids he seems to be genuinely enjoying being a dad.

  • Lilithcat

It’s a lovely way to start the day, don’t you find?

Nah, he’s not my type at all.  But whatever floats your boat  .  .  .

  • quiltrx

When your face looks that divine, there’s really no need to muck about with it…keep it just like that, darling. :)  Love the hair.

  • BazoDee

In print he does have that one expression  -too bad they couldn’t capture that “I want to do unspeakable things to you” look from the opening ceremony last week. I’m not a HUGE Becks fan girl -but damn his face was perfection last week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001998855370 Fatima Siddique

“But he really does only have one facial expression.” Would that be “Please cast me as Wolverine in the next X-men film”?

    • Andrea Rossillon

I saw that, too. Hugh Jackman may be out of a job.

  • http://twitter.com/TheRealSandraOh Sandra Oh

He has many facial expressions but this one is the hottest by far.  I aint complaining!

  • http://twitter.com/TheRealAndra Andra

But it’s the only one he needs.

  • crash1212

Dave can give me a ‘bit of stick’ any old time.

  • LuluBI

Gorgeous man. What’s with all the clothes?

    • understateddiva

      disqus fail

  • Anathema_Device

I get food hangovers, too! I hate aging.

Beckham is aging pretty damn well.

  • VicksieDo

One facial expression: Yes, I am that hot.
If I were them, I would definitely have mirrored walls!

  • Nice_Shirt

I just made a yumyum/slurping sound and my teen daughter smacked me upside the head.  “You can like him, just don’t be gross about it, Mom.”

  • kimmeister

Are those long johns in the last pic?  That one blade of hair that looks lighter in the last pic reminds me of Vanilla Ice.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KCDEX4FOTCFHZP6WLKSOOKUVM Danielle

But that one expression is hot as hell.

Actually, on Friday night watching the opening ceremonies, I was thinking how nice it was to see him smiling.

  • Pants_are_a_must

He’s been locked on that facial expression ever since he hit his 30s.

  • AudreysMom

“William loves Aston Villa, unfortunately, which obviously I give him a bit of stick about.” Let’s just say, David Beckham can give me a bit of a stick about anything he wants to :)

  • LaylaSV

Yeah but when your facial expressions is that good, you only need one.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sheryl-Katz/1469124441 Sheryl Katz

I never noticed it before, but Ryan Kwanten looks exactly like Beckham did a few years ago.  It’s uncanny

    :) Thank you.

  • snarkykitten

    He bores me to tears.

  • JimMcC

Sweater in the black and white picture. Who knows where I can find it? I need that in my life!

Pass. You can have him. Stupid hair and all those tats.

  • alyce1213

Is he scrubbing out an old bathtub?  Does he do windows?

  • guest2visits

I think his best look (besides a tux) is on the field. He’s phenomenal.
I would like to know about sex, revenge, and what not to wear though.

  • PrunellaV

Imagining a woman with that expression in a photospread.

  • frankystein123

    Lighten up Beck.

    Getting kinda Clint Eastwoody
