Baby WERQ: Kiernan Shipka in Oscar de la Renta

Posted on August 08, 2012

Miss Kiernan steps out and shuts it down.

Kiernan Shipka attends the premiere of ‘The Odd Life of Timothy Green’ in Los Angeles in an Oscar de la Renta dress paired with a Proenza Schouler clutch and Miu Miu shoes.

Proenza Schouler Evening Clutch

It’s eerie how much she looks like January Jones when she smiles (and like Jon Hamm when she’s not smiling). Anyway, how freaking cute does she look? Then again, how many 12-year-olds have an Oscar de la Renta dress in their wardrobe rotation? Incidentally, if you would like to weep over the childhood you deserved but never got, check out what’s inside Kiernan’s closet.

But enough envy. She looks adorable. You WERQ that Princess Fashion shit stuff, girl! BABYSNAPS.

She has been styled precisely enough so that she looks great, without for a moment forgetting that she’s 12.

      • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Exactly! My daughter is a “regular” 12-year old, and I would have no problem putting her in an outfit like this. She would have no problem wearing it, either.

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Its just stylish enough.  And VERY wise not to put her in baby heels.  Plenty of time for that later on.

          • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Yeah, my kid would have paired the dress with her “The Flash” chucks.

            • teensmom99

My 13 yo would go no where near that dress (even if she were flat chested) but she only wears flats.  Of course, part of that is because she is so much taller than the boys.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s refreshing to see a child styled appropriately, isn’t it?

        • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

For sure! What a relief not to see another child dressed as a hooker in training.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

She looks delightful, and bless her, may she stay so.

      • Candigirl1968

Ah, twelve and a half, and don’t you forget it (see the video)!

I hope that she will continue too combine looking incredibly chic, and yet age appropriate, as she moves into her teens.

    • SapphoPoet

She looks adorable and age-appropriate. Kudos to her stylist for using a light touch.

      • MoHub

And God bless her stylist for not putting her in chunky, clunky heels. Those ballet flats are adorable and totally age-appropriate.

    • Patricia Gillett

      She’s 12. And carrying a $2,000 clutch.

      • Sobaika

        Makes me want to weep.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

That she didn’t have to pay for. Along with the dress, and shoes, that she didn’t have to pay for.

        • LANDRU3000

Do she have to return them at the end of the gig?

      • SapphoPoet

        Yes, there is that…

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

Good for her. Next time, I’ll tell her to go the Claire’s Boutique for accessories.
At which age is a $2000 clutch appropriate. Answer: Never. But that is what makes fashion fun.
Now what is the price for the shoes and dress?

      • Scarlet39

Sure, you’re average 12 year probably won’t have a $2,000 clutch, but KS is in a profession unlike that of your average 12 year old.  She seems like a remarkably well adjusted, intelligent, and insightful young lady so I don’t think a $2,000 bag is doing her much harm.

        • librarygrrl64

Agreed. I could see her having a career a la Jodie Foster. Makes me want to weep when I see poor Lindsay Lohan, et. al.

      • TheOriginalLulu

        *seething with jealousy*

        lol

      • http://twitter.com/sillytwigg twigg

        And I’m jealous!

      • kimmeister

It’s seriously $2,000?!?  It doesn’t even look particularly awesome to me.

    • TheDivineMissAnn

She looks adorable…and her age.  This is perfect.

    • antheapena

perfectly age appropriate in a celeb-RC way! Suri’s going to flip & love her even more

    • l3icest3r

KS is styled age appropriately in an outfit that flatters her. She’s more pulled together than a lot of actresses who’ve been in the game for years. O! May she never change!

    • http://twitter.com/wednesdaydreams Natalie

LUV HUH. And she’s so smart but not precocious/annoying.

    • http://www.twitter.com/allforusophia AllForUSophia

Is it me, or does she look like Emma Watson at 12? They could be sisters, no?

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Yeah, I see what you mean. They could be siblings for sure.

      • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

That was the first thing I thought.

        • Wrenaria

          Same!

      • hillmad

I was just going to say that! Another lovely, age-appropriate and chic young lady!

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I said the same thing when TLo posted her closet thing the other day. It’s eerie.

        She really looks adorable.

      • http://www.lifeinspice.com/ rose88

That’s what I thought when I saw the picture.  I was thinking she needs to be in a movie where she plays Emma Watson’s younger sister because they look so much alike!

        • CassandraMortmain

Someone please make this happen – soon.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

Love this, love her.  Let’s hope she stays on this same trajectory.

    • CYVH9000

She’s the most adorable human. Her smile makes me happy.

    • mhleta

My 12 year old daughter dresses like Kurt Cobain. This is darling.

      • kimmeister

I’m impressed if your 12-year old knows who Kurt Cobain is.  I know 20-year olds who don’t!

      • fursa_saida

I like your daughter’s style. I was doing the Cobain thing when I was twelve, too.

    • Le_Sigh

How cute is she????  And she’s wearing flats!!!!  And just looks psyched to be there, yet still polished!!!!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

Perfection. Even bordering on stunning. Love the touch of color at the sleeves and hem. Age appropriate. Her poise is front of the camera should be used as a textbook example of how to show up with style and class. Especially considering some of the horrors we have seen on the red carpet.

She is channeling Emma Watson a bit.

Attn department stores: Knock off this dress…and the shoes. My 13-year old has nothing to choose from at your stores because she does not want to look like a tramp.

      • librarygrrl64

“Her poise is front of the camera should be used as a textbook example of how to show up with style and class.” And respect for her audience and fans. Well done. :-)

    • Ozski

She’s way too self-possessed and refined for a 12 year-old but I can’t help but love her. Just thinking of the bad hair, acne, head-gear and overall tragedy that was my pre-teen years and she is almost supernatural.

    • http://twitter.com/TMamBo Therese Bohn

Rock on Kiddo!  I wish more little girls would dress like her.  (even if they’re not designer clothes)  In a world where some twelve year-olds (sadly) strive to be Snooki, Kiernan is truly a little Audrey Hepburn.  This may change as time goes on, but for now, the kid’s got class.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

It’s sad that ANYONE, of any age, would strive to be Snooki.

    • EEKstl

      Perfection.

    • MilaXX

Baby WERQs indeed. Unless by some freak of nature the ugly stick hits her during puberty, this is going to be one knockout of woman when she grows up. Beauty aside, I have to give props to her parents. This young lady always looks and acts age appropriate in an industry where the kids grow up really fast.

    • DaveUWSNYC

      Taste, quality, style…Tim would approve

    • NDC_IPCentral

Shift dresses on ‘tweens are a really good shape for their shapes, and little Miss Shipka looks completely appropriate for the season, mirable dictu, in view of the many autumnal looks being sported by celebs that Our Boys have shared with us.

    • Cathy S

      So cute!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

She was cute as a button on that video also. I loved how she looked at that dipwad fashion editor and said, ‘…but I’m twelve.’

      • formerlyAnon

Yes. What’s her name really was trying to be age-appropriate, you could tell. And even then, total fail, and the 12 year old called her on it. And did it charmingly, not snarkily.

    • meowing

Your “stuff” edit is adorable in itself. You’re good uncles.

    • Call me Bee

      Perfect cutie-patooty 12 year old.

    • EverybodysStarling

I love it when kids on the rc (or in public in general) dress age-appropriate. Very cute, from head to toe.

    • nannypoo

This is a perfect choice for her. She is at the most difficult age to dress. Most girls her age show up dressed like they’re 16. She sometimes seems to dress like she’s younger than she is. This is just right.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I love this kid! (In a big sisterly, I’m-totally-stealing-that-clutch sort of way.)

She looks cute and stylish and age-appropriate and all of the things that everyone else said!

I also just realized that she’s the same age as my nephew (arranged marriage??), so it’s more motherly than big-sisterly. But I’m still stealing the clutch.

    • Judy_J

She’s adorable, and perfectly dressed for her age.  I wish more girls her age would dress in similar fashion.

    • YolandaHawkins

Perfection!  Age appropriate.  Darling, simply darling!

    • Stacie Bratton

Forget January Jones and Jon Hamm, she looks just like Emma Watson!

    • janetjb

      Perfect

    • TheOriginalLulu

This little girl is so fabulous I can’t take it. I need to sit down for a minute.
Always age-appropriate too and I love that she doesn’t do the mugging for the camera, trying to be sexy. She seems like she knows she’s a kid and she’s just enjoying life.

    • tereliz

I want this entire outfit. And I’m 20 years older than her.

    • quiltrx

She looks great–age appropriate but super-classy at the same time.  AND she looks like she’s having fun, which is very important–even to the older ladies–you’re on the Red Carpet, enjoy it!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_B3CIEK7XAS3YKAAKFJFMIIKC4I Nacogdoches

      Wow, I’m coveting that clutch.

      • Susan Crawford

So am I! Really chic, no? How about we share custody?

    • dress_up_doll

I never noticed the Emma Watson-ness of her looks. Wow. Stunning. I had to watch the video interview again. It’s wonderful!

    • Pants_are_a_must

So damn appropriate. Her stylist is doing this even better than in Hailee Steinfeld’s Oscar campaign. Little Miss Diva here is dressing like she should: an extremely promising child actress who will absolutely dominate the scene when she grows up.

    • Stephanie Phillips

She is totally a 12-year-old Emma Watson. Seriously.

      • Susan Crawford

So true! If I were a producer, I’d be developing a project for these two young ladies – together they’d burn up the screen.

Meantime, Kieran looks so lovely in Oscar – despite the couture, she is age-appropriate. I’ve seen other young actresses who seem to think that they can ignore their actual age and wear things FAR too sophisticated/sexy/mature for them. And they wind up looking desperate/slutty/silly. Kieran and her team always seem to get it right.

    • greymain

NEVER change….keep that “stuff” going on !

    • bluefish

She is always so beautifully dressed — I did see the Kiernan’s Closet video … She’s a sweetie.  I had lovely clothes growing up — Not that I appreciated most of them so I wasn’t envious — Just happy to see her.  I love her to pieces.

    • Terri Smith

      LUV. HUH.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=2066192 Melissa Mellon

      Yay! Lovely lady !

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

What impresses me the most is her pose – she’s not doing that stupid “I gotta pee” thing.

    • formerlyAnon

She’s adorable. She’s so adorable that she outshines the (entirely appropriate) great outfit, which is exactly as it should be.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1155227497 Ganell Dunn

She has innate style as a 12 year old. I doubt she’d let any stylist convince her to go silly putty shoes or bath towel dress. Ever.

    • http://kingderella.tumblr.com/ kingderella

holy cow, that girl is scary fabulous.
once again, special attention must be paid to her make-up. thats how its done, bitches!

    • PrunellaV

I love that her eyebrows haven’t been messed with. That’s for later.

    • PaulaBerman

I hope she remains the stylish, classy, smart person she is right now. She will  have a very successful life ahead of her. Love her!

    • http://twitter.com/Merneith Merneith

She has the best instincts. Seeing Bella Thorne just reinforces how smart Shipka is playing this.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

Everything she’s wearing has a very simple silhouette; nothing is fussy or overdone.  The details are what makes this outfit shine, and I applaud the restraint in her choices.  It feels like she respects her audience and gives us credit for being able to see and appreciate subtlety.

      Take that, any Kardashian!

    • ChelseaNH

Her rebellious teenage years are gonna be fascinating.

    • siriuslover

She reminds me of Emma Watson when she first started Harry Potter.

    • butter nut

      omg so perfect!

    • Anna_Cecilia

She reminds me more and more of Emma Watson as she gets older, especially in that second photo. I wish her similar age-appropriate wardrobe, career and child star transitioning to grown-up star choices.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

I hope I have a daughter just liker her someday *tear*.

    • ccm800

      perfection. Little bugger!

    • librarygrrl64

Standing ovation to her parents and handlers for always making sure she is dressed stylishly yet AGE-APPROPRIATELY! Twelve-year-old girls should not be dressing like they’re 25-year-olds….or skanks…or 25-year-old skanks. She’s adorable, always with a genuine smile on her face!
