Ashley Greene in Donna Karan Atelier

Posted on August 24, 2012

Ashley Greene is serving up Jessica Rabbit realness.

Ashley Greene attends the premiere of ‘The Apparition’ in Hollywood in a Donna Karan Atelier fuchsia gown paired with Jimmy Choo nude sandals and jewelry by Kimberly McDonald.

Jimmy Choo ‘Vita’ Peep-toe Platform Slingback

Kimberly McDonald Ring and Earrings

Honey, get a pen and make a note of it: this is YOUR shade of pink. Love the layers and ruffles in the skirt, which provide just the right amount of interest. Three notable things about the styling:

  1. That’s the perfect lip color to go with this dress
  2. That jewelry’s a fabulously unusual choice.
  3. The shoes make Jesus cry.

Oh, well. Two out of three. Plus she got the dress right. We’d call that a win all around.

  • Those shoes are indeed hideous, but at least they fit!

    • piecesofconfetti

       Good point!

    • Lori

That’s the one positive thing I can say about them. Otherwise they’re basically just a collection of shoe trends that I flat out hate—-bad color, shiny in a way that makes them look cheap even though they’re Choos and probably cost more than my first car, peep-toe platform pump. Oy. Truly a festival of ugly.

    • She is a flat out babe, but those shoes really ruin the entire look for me. Aggressively ugly.

  • Sobaika

Earrings look like blue strawberries from a Ren Faire or something, although I do love the ring. Shoes are terrible, obviously. I’m not digging her hair, she used to have a much richer brown that suited her before these highlights.

There’s a lot the nitpicker in me wants to dislike about this look, but she is making it come together beautifully.

    • snarkykitten

the shitty photoshop isn’t helping with the Ren Faire look

    • ampg

Is she wearing the earrings, though?  From the photographs, I don’t think so.

      • Sobaika

It doesn’t look like it but I figured they were hidden by hair. They’re still pretty goofy, either way. So is the art.

  • The hair’s a little limp and the shoes DO make baby Jesus cry but that side-on picture is va va voom!

    •  yes! the hair looks dirty!

      • Marie Watterlond

In her defense, I have to say our weather this week has been hideously hot and humid–every woman in the LA Basin is going around looking like that. Even my short straight hair went limp and droopy.

    • Right? check out those legs!

  • piecesofconfetti

I love this! I do think the photography for the jewelry is hilariously dramatic, though.

    • schadenfreudelicious

like the backdrop to an E Ron Hubbard novel….

      •  Or that guy that paints your aura. It’s hilarious.

She looks great. I kind of love that ring. I REALLY loathe those shoes. And her hair needs something. But overall, it’s a knockout dress and she’s killing in it.

        • Hee hee! Now I’m gonna have to go and get my aura painted.

      • Having witnessed too many 2am “Diantetics” commercials in my youth, I believe you are spot on.

        • schadenfreudelicious

if we sub in Travolta’s head for the earrings, and Cruise’s for the ring we’re there! 😉

      • understateddiva

         NAILED it.

  • imperfectlaura

LOVE the dress, and I wouldn’t think that I would.  But I’m with you on the shoes.  I’m not really loving her hair.  It looks greasy to me.  Also, it needed to either be straighter or wavier.  Here, it looks unintentional and like no effort was put in.  However, with a dress like that, the overall impression is gorgeous, even if some of the details are wrong.

  • mjude

TLO says “the shoes make jesus cry”  LMFAO!  another reason why i need my TLO every day all day.

  • Aly Light

Who knew someone from the Twilight franchise could look so grown-up and sexy?

  • MissAnnieRN

I’d cut a bitch for those earrings.

Her hair is also making Jesus cry.

    •  I think Jesus would have given her an updo, or at least something a bit sleeker.

  • I’m watching to much Breaking Bad, I see the jewelry and think of Walt’s blue meth. Love the ring.

T-Lo is spot on about the spectacular dress and the lip color. I was just discussing on twitter my inability to figure out what shades of lipstick look good on me, let alone have them suit my outfit. Celebrities really are not like us. If only I had a stylist to help me figure out what looks best against the backdrop of my sofa.

    • Squarah

No such thing as too much Breaking Bad!

  • jw_ny

Not digging her hair or shoes…but the rest is near perfect.  Love the flowy-ness of the dress and think blue jewelery compliments it well.  The ring is kind of ugly tho. Her choice of lipstick…makes me smile.  🙂

  • I can’t with the hair. The dress is killer, the shoes may make baby Jesus cry but at least they aren’t overreaching and fighting for attention with the dress but the hair… it just doesn’t do it for me.

  • A perfectly fitted, and fitting dress for the occasion. It’s a splendid color for her. I agree, gentlemen that the shoes are making me weepy. Destroy All Nude Shoes!!!!!

  • AlinaValero

That is one heckuva slit! She looks *SO* out of place next to that movie poster, but the shoes fit in as they are equally terrifying.

  • Squarah

That lip color is FANTASTIC. I covet. The jewelry is also amazing. Those shoes turn it into a scrolldown fug though, sadly.

    • Sobaika

I don’t know what she’s wearing, but try Makeup Forever no. 48.

      • Squarah

You’re speaking my language. I’ll definitely check it out. I’m a Make Up For Ever junkie, particularly their eyeliner.

  • Judy_J

Dress is gorgeous, love the color.  Too bad about the shoes….what is it with these people and their fascination with nude/silly putty pumps?  Oh, and I’m not crazy about her hair…wish she would have done something with it.  Great jewelry, though.

    • ASK26

well they are slingbacks.     I have to say that my mother is 72 and she does have good looking calves and she does look good in “nude” shoes.  But then again I have to say that for some reason she makes most shoes look good.  Seriously we go shoe shopping all the time and people will constantly walk up and tell her how good the shoes look on her – then they try them on themselves and get surprised that they then don’t like the way the shoes look.       Too bad I got her knees (with the alarming lack of cartilage and not that shoe thing.  : )   )

      • Judy_J

Your mom is a lucky lady to have feet that look good in most shoes.  I loved your comment about how you go shoe shopping all the time.  How delightful to have your mom to shop with!

  • Eva_baby

I irrationally hate this look.  Can’t put my finger on why, though.

  • Her hair is a wreck, as is her shoes. I love the heel part, but that nude just needs to go.  She looks fab otherwise.

  • maggiemaybe

I think that hair makes Jesus cry too.

  • hero21

She wears it like she’s wearing a beach towel! No personality!!

  • mellbell

The ring is unusual, but in a blinged out Ring Pop sort of way. Not sure it really fits with the dress, which is lovely.

  • She looks amazing!!  I couldn’t agree more that the shoes are heinous but with that face/bod/dress? overall win!

  • TaurusKW

I don’t know about that ring, you guys.  From a distance, it’s reading pretty phallic to me.  Otherwise, I agree with TLo.

  • As flesh colored pumps go, those are pretty amazing, I must say.. She looks awesome.

  • ballerinawithagun

    Lusting for that jewelry!

  • littlemac8

I have a question:  If the whole nude shoe trend was premised on the shoe disappearing thus lengthening the leg line, WHY oh Why wear one under a to-the-floor gown?  Just asking!

    • ASK26

Well the platform part is to make you seem taller and leaner and in the case of a gown – hide the fact that you are not THAT tall.   the nude part I would say is because of the slit?

  • teensmom99

Was going to say that that dramatic dress needed a non-competing shoe so I was going to give it a pass–and then I looked again.  No pass-shoes are bad.

  • ASK26

L O V E the dress .  The lip color is kind of dark but does work with the dress.          I don’t mind a “naked” looking shoe – but agree that this shiny pump style is not good

  • SapphoPoet

Love the color of that dress and lipstick. I think her hair is a disaster, though. I’m thinking an unkempt updo would have been better than this limp mess. I find the ring really amusing; I do like the earrings, although it’s not clear to me that she’s wearing them.

Jessica Rabbit has one of the best movie lines ever: “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way.”

    • You’re right on about the hair. I think the color and highlights are really working for her, but leaving it down doesn’t serve this overall look at all.

The ring especially amuses me in the context of the movie poster behind her. It looks like it was taken from the set!

  • Why is everyone wearing clay shoes at the moment?

  • That ring is amazing! Also I want that dress.

  • another_laura

Oh good heavens, those shoes are gaaak-worthy.  I’m throwing up my morning granola over them.

  • Calinda_L

Her hair is just plain bad. TLo commented a few days ago (about… Camilla Belle, I think) about younger ladystars opting away from updos, which I generally find to be okay — one commenter on that post noted that if she were to spend xx hours on a blowout, she’d want to show it off and not waste it on an updo. I completely agree, and that’s my own hair philosophy, too. But… this? This is bad. Like, stringy, greasy, badly colored, too casual for the dress bad.

The dress is killer though. Shame about the shoes.

  • leave_Blake_alone

I think this is a WERQ for me. The idea of “nude peep-toe platform pumps” is horrifying, but the gold heel gives it some interest and I somehow find them excusable overall in this ensemble. LOVE the color of the dress, the ring is gorgeous. The hair seems a little flat, but it works with the look, and covers up the earrings. Great job.

  • random_poster

I agree with you on the dress and lip color, however, I think the dress is flat out ugly.  I’d like it better if the skirt didn’t have all that froo-fra-drapiness.

  • drdirection

She’s a fence jumper for me here

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Horrifying shoes ruining a dress that suits her perfectly. Love the jewelry, and she’s owning that lip color. The yellowish tinge to the nude is pumps stomach-turningly awful. Her poor feet look tormented.

  • Lilak

Not everybody can wear a mercurochrome shade of pink, so ‘yay’ on that score.

Too bad the dress itself looks like it requires some attentive wrangling (1) for modesty’s sake (or whatever we call it these days) and (2) to keep from tripping on it.  In fact, the design seems to put those two concerns in conflict with each other.

And sorry, but even the gold heel cannot begin to save a demi-Minnie peep-toe in, of all heinous things, patent leather nude …. particularly with a lightweight fabric skirt.  No.

  • AzSportsGirl

If the shoes were the fabulous metallic of the heel and lose 3/4 of the platform, they would be fabulous!

  • Lilithcat

Those shoes have no business coming anywhere near that dress.

  • I don’t really like the dress that much — the messy layers of chiffon in the skirt bother me and the color is borderline tacky. But she looks AMAZING in it. Glamorous Hollywood goddess. Wow. And, from a technical point of view, I am in awe of that bodice. There are a lot of designer and even couturier strapless gowns on the
red carpet but I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an amazing fit. Seriously awesome feat of engineering.

  • l_c_ann

    Brunettes rule.

If ever a look deserved a great diamond and pearl necklace, this one does.  (I don’t like the artsy craftsy coarse jewelry with fine fabrics.)

  • I feel like the ring looks like a class ring with an erection. Hrm.
Great dress, great lipstick. Stupid shoes.

  • kimmeister

The lip color is great on her.  I love the color of the ring, but on a practical level, I can’t imagine wearing it for a day and NOT cracking it into a bajillion pieces.

    • LambeeBaby

I can’t imagine wearing that ring and having to give someone a rectal exam.

  • KC

Okay….can I just point out how bad she looks in the Twilight movies? I mean….this girl is HOT and GORGEOUS EVERYWHERE ELSE and in the Twilight movies she just doesn’t even look like the same person! She looks great here!

  • alyce1213

That dress must move exquisitely.  The layered fabric and color are to die for.
Love everything but the hair (could have tried a little harder) and shoes (where’s a gorgeous pair of sandals when you need them?).

  • Allison Woods

Damn you girl with the SillyPuttyStripperShoes! The rest if it’s slammin’!

  • MilaXX

She looks killer but I hate the shoe with this.

  • akprincess72

Anyone know what lipstick it is???

  • What is that lipstick???

  • frankystein123

Stupid nude pumps, they ruin everything.

  • ashpo17

    LOVE the lip colour!

  • Susan Crawford

The jewelry KILLS! Just fabulous. The dress is gorgeous, proving that DK really gets how women want to look: it is sexy as hell without being slutty, it hugs the curves without seeming to strangle the wearer, and it is both classic and modern. And yes, this color definitely suits Ashley Greene just perfectly. Love her deep-red lip color, but I wish the hair were sleeker and more groomed.

I mean, can you envision how awesome she would have looked with a deep-side-part Lauren Bacall / Veronica Lake inspired do? All smooth, curvy and shiny? OK, maybe it would have looked full-on Jessica Rabbit, but she’s almost there as it is, so go for it, girl!

    Shoes . . . pfui.

  • guest2visits

It all looks pretty amazing to me. I’m not against nude platforms, but there may be a few other shoes that might work better.
As long as it didn’t make the whole thing (with the strong, large jewelry pieces) look too busy or Vegas-bridesmaidy.

  • H3ff

The last shot is STUNNING. Now that is poise.

  • From vampire to vamp, but she still scares the hell out of me!

  • Love the jewelry but I can’t even tell if she’s wearing earrings b/c of the yoga hair.  Why wear fabulous earrings & cover them with your basset hound hair?

  • Effing LOVE Kimberly McDonald… alas, I cannot afford- ever see the geode stuff, to DIE for.
