Ariel Winter in Jay Godfrey

Posted on August 21, 2012

Ariel Winter, you are wearing a cute, colorful, girly dress that’s slightly off the beaten track. We approve wholeheartedly.

Ariel Winter attends the WWE SummerSlam VIP Kick-Off Party in Beverly Hills, California in a Jay Godfrey dress paired with Brian Atwood sandals.

We do NOT, however, approve of stripper heels on 14-year-olds.*

*Granted, you pretty much need to have young, flexible bones to attempt this shoe, but still.

Oh thank goodness you commented on the heels! I was worried there for a second!
IIRC -she has in the past tended to wear stripper heels.

    • ringthing

Oh, when I was 14 I would have LOVED to wear the most inappropriate stripper shoes possible if somebody would have let me. Of course that doesn’t make them a good choice.

      • TheOriginalLulu

Yeah, lol, same here! Luckily, my mother knew that there would be plenty of time for sexy shoes, so I was allowed to wear youthful yet ladylike sandals with a more age-appropriate 2″ heel. But man I couldn’t wait to get into the highest heels I could manage.

        • call_me_schmeg

my mother would have said, “those are street walker shoes,” because saying “prostitute” would have been uncouth. (and she wonders why i have a mouth like a sailor…)

      • BazoDee

her expression makes me think she know’s she getting away with something she shouldn’t. I would love to see if she can actually walk in them. My mom told me I couldn’t wear heels until I could walk “properly” in them – heel strike first – I thought I was getting a deal – it took me years!

      • librarygrrl64

And that is why 14-year-olds still need parental guidance. 🙂

  • Squarah

An emphatic NO to those shoes, several times over. I would hate them on anyone, but they are a travesty on a 14 year old. Love that hair color though, so rich.

  • lehen

those are terrible.  i don’t care who’s wearing them.

  • Scarlet39

Those shoes are completely wrong, not just because she’s only 14, but also because they are totally incongruouos with such a sweet, flirty, feminine dress.

But mostly because she’s only 14!

    • Sobaika

Incongruous is one of my favorite words, and put in very good use for this outfit.

  • Imasewsure

Shiny puddy stump heels….ugh… might as well through spikes and plastic on them to complete the fug

  • Those shoes are hideous. Patent leather silly putty. I think shoe designers are just fucking with us now and I will join in the harumphing – totally inappropriate for a 14 year old.

She’s lovely. Who is she when she’s at home?

    • newleaf1

She’s one of the girls on Modern Family – the younger, nerdier sister.  Very funny little girl.

      • pookiesmom

Wow, I did NOT recognize her at all in this.

    • Totally fucking with us. Especially calling those shoes sandals. There is nothing sandal like about those ugly shoes. Why a seam up the front seems like good idea, I have not clue.

Ariel is adorable on Modern Family, love that she gets to express her girly fashion sense on the red carpet. For her age, she really does pretty well with these shoes as a notable exception.

  • Patricia Gillett

And they’re ugly shoes too. Don’t even want to know how much those things cost!

  • Lori

Aside from the fact that they’re straight up fugly, in what world are those hideous shoes “sandals”?

  • Golfkat

Not sure about the dress, but I am sure about the shoes. HATE them. What’s with the hour-glass shaped heels? And stripper shoes in general have no business on a lady’s feet.

  • kimmeister

Ouch, that super twisty pose does NOT look comfortable!  She’s going to sprain her knees that way.

  • SHE’S 14?!?!?!  My daddy would’ve drug my ass back in the hourse and told me to put on something less hoochie (no, he wouldn’t have used those exact words).  He was known for making me remove the 3 pounds of makeup that I used to pile on and also change into jeans that weren’t skin tight.  Looking back, I now thank him.

  • pookiesmom

Not only stripper heels, but plastic-looking silly putty stripper heels! LOVE the dress though.

  • oatmealpie

Ick. That shoe has camel toe.

  • I love the design of the shoe, but the execution of color went horribly wrong. from the ankle up, she looks great.

  • SuzBald

My 14 year old, though not famous and receiving of designer goods for free, would be put on serious probation if I caught her wearing those (ugly, silly putty) stripper heels!

  • nannypoo

This is a really cheap-looking dress.

    • Tatiana Luján

It looks as if it were made out of her teen room’s curtains.

    • TonyGo

THANK YOU! It looks like a belted apron over a cheap cocktail dress….kinda like what the waitstaff would wear at  a Hooter’s/Cracker Barrel joint venture.

  • NUDE stripper heels, at that!

  • SHE’S 14???????????

    • PinkLemon

CHYEAH. Exactly. IMO the lipstick is the worst offender, here.

      • PinkLemon

Actually, maybe that’s a good thing that at least ONE element is that of a 14 year old. The lipstick. ha!

  • amian3

I watched a little blurb on Manolo Blahnik on JetBlue recently. It showed so many lovely shoes. Particularly noticeable was the lack of platforms and attention to detail. I can’t believe I am going to say it, but I wish the stylists would take a look.

  • l_c_ann

She may still be in Middle School.  What’s the opposite of mutton dressed as lamb?

  • Anathema_Device

That is a very cute dress, and it looks amazing on her. Love that color combo.

The shoes are a bit much for a 14 yo, but I will say this is a situation in which those silly putty pumps work.

    • MilaXX

I agree, if she was older this would be a perfectly cute look. When you dress is orange & purple an neutral shoe can actually work

  • NCDFan

    “Harrumph.”  Hee hee hee

  • Allyson Wells

Seriously, it seems like most people don’t consider age when picking out shoes since they just go on your feet, but some shoes are much too sexy to be worn by little girls. Case in point. I still think she looks about 18 here, even without the shoes.

  • Too much look for 14, and for all the effort the stripper shoes don’t even work.

  • Emily Behrens

Scroll down fug.  Still love her.

  • Judy_J

harrumph…I don’t approve of strapless dresses on 14 year olds, either.

  • elleg929

So glad that I wasn’t the only one that thought the platforms were a little much on those shoes.

  • librarygrrl64

Couldn’t agree more. And putty-colored ones at that. With different shoes, this would have been a total WERQ.

  • I’m not thrilled with strapless on a 14 year old girl, either, but I’m old.

  • Susan Crawford

I cannot even IMAGINE walking more than three feet in those platform-stilt shoes. And I am SO ready for the ridiculous notion that this color “elongates your legs”. Because it really does NOT, Kittens.

The dress, however, is so adorable that she should be placed atop a cupcake.

  • too bad about the shoes.  she looks adorable from the ankles up.

wait, what are you doing in that last shot, missy?  we do not approve of 14 year olds doing the michael jackson crotch grab.

  • formerlyAnon

I don’t love the dress on her. It looks a tad too small, without actually not fitting anywhere. Even though it’s NOT an insanely short length.

But I may be biased because neither the color combo nor the ruffle are at all my thing.

Glad you commented on the shoes.

  • MilaXX

She looks cute here. I agree the shoes are a bit grown, but someone has obviously been putting in some effort for the RC. I just think her looks are better suited to someone at lest 16.

…… now get off my lawn1

  • My mother would’ve sent me back in the house to change – change shoes, that is.

  • Trisha26

Way too grown up – dress & shoes.

  • When I was 14, I loved nothing more than stripper heels. I can hardly blame her for living out the fantasies of teenagers everywhere.

  • PrunellaV

    God those shoes suck.

  • BrightsideSusan

My experience with otherwise level headed daughters tells me it is normal for teen girls to love the stripper shoe…I blame Barbie.

  • Snailstsichr

Is making a child wear that shoe close to child abuse?? Yuck. I do love orange and purple, though, because it matches all my Halloween decorations. Speaking of which, this dress would be the base for a great sexy witch costume. I can see it with striped knee highs and a big shiny witch’s hat dripping with tacky lace.

  • sockandaphone

i like the dress but i cannot get past that bizarre color combination.

  • Amy Ellinger

From the waist up- supercute, adorable, fairly age-appropriate.  (the strapless is pushing it, but its a high enough neck and backline to not show any cleavage or too much back).  I can’t find anything nice to say about everything else.  Diner waitress stripper costume.

  • greyhoundgirl

Ditch the shoes and she’d look so much better than she has in recent posts.  She has cleaned up her make-up at least, which is a relief.  Maybe she’s starting from the top down and will get to age appropriate shoes soon.

  • BeeBeauNYC

That’s an unfortunately timed crotch grab in the last pic.

  • Larkin21

Wow, I didn’t recognize her at first. Love that dress on her. Hair and make-up look great too. Agree about the shoes.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Those shoes! Like spoiled liverwurst, the color is. Those are the shoes the sexy librarian wears just before the plumber arrives to lay some pipe.

  • nancymae

I don’t care for the shoes either but she is attending a wrestling VIP event and those shoes are just about perfect for a evening with men in spandex and biceps and WWE ‘divas’ in next to nothing. Jus’ saying….

  • Violina23

Well, she *is* at a WWE event, maybe it’s intentional? (re: the shoes)

  • Cat_In_A_Hat

Such is my frustration with nude shoes on the red carpet that my initial revolt was over the colour, rather than the height.

  • Nicole Chubb

Does she think she needs to bump up the sexy because she plays a geek on tv? I’m sorry, but geekiness is more sexy than… this. ::shudder::
And why is she worrying about being sexy (if that is the case)? She’s 14!!!

  • Clean n Fresh! Agree about the Hooker Pumps on a kid. No!

  • colleenjanel

14 is still too young for strapless. Where is her mother???

  • quiltrx

Those shoes look clunky and huge, for ANYONE.  Let’s just concentrate on her knees and above, hmm?

  • ojosazules

All of it seems tacky and totally inappropriate for a 14 year old to me.

  • PeaceBang

SO cute! But then those shoes! I’m just worried for her general chiropractic and podiatric (is that a word?) well-being. Those things are crazy.

  • DesertDweller79

Brian Atwood, those are not sandals.

Otherwise, she looks cute!  Dress is cute.  And you are right about the stripper heels.  Yikes.

  • MarissaLG

The ONLY person that should wear those shoes is Pamela Anderson. ON. LY.

  • teensmom99

Of course, she plays the plain daughter on MF, so she tends to go a little over the top.  So I am very indulgent on the heels.

  • simon_james2205

Sadly anyone who follows Ariel will see she is a repeat offender with extreme shoes. She has commented about loving heels and that she is short, so I wonder whose example she is following… and how many teen girls are going to follow hers?
