Anne Hathaway in West Hollywood

Posted on August 29, 2012

Oh, Annie. You’re such a star. Playing to the cameras like a pro while pretending like they’re not there; always giving your fans a show. Joan Crawford is looking down from heaven and saying “Attagirl.”

Anne Hathaway shops at Real Food Daily with her fiance Adam Shulman in West Hollywood, California in a Madewell dress.

Madewell Chambray Avalon Dress

“Just hanging out on a street corner, leaning into my fiance and laughing my joy to the world because I AM IN LOVE!”

Brava, darling. Play it to the hilt, we say. It’s all about making sure people are paying attention, after all. And you want an Oscar some day so a sex tape is out of the question. You’re that new couple that everyone can’t stand being around because you won’t shut the fuck up about each other, so you’ve taken your love to the streets, where all can see and be inspired by it.

And hey, your little dress n’ boots getup is adorably L.A. To the MAX.

I really can’t get behind chambray, but it’s just me probably. I’m sure she looks super cute to the rest of the world.

    • 3boysful

Me, I don’t mind the chambray/linen, it’s the undoubtedly smelly boots in an LA summer that I can’t do.

    • therealkuri

Indeed. At first glance I thought this dress was constructed from upcycled Ikea bags.

  • Anathema_Device

The rumpledness (new word) is why I don’t wear linen anymore. She does look pretty darned cute, though. I like that her short hair is a little softer looking than it has been recently.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

She is a gal who can work a short hairstyle like crazy.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1531695734 Melinda Mary

Really good linen doesn’t rumple.  But is is REALLY expensive.

  • call_me_schmeg

pale girls unite! love this all to pieces…

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

She is the walking image of a stylish, kicked back, Caliornia girl. Go ON wit your bad self, Annie!

    • mjude

      agree!

  • charlotte

Showing off a fiancé is a hundred (or thousand?) times better than showing off a designer bag. Plus, this might be the first time ever that I actually like her hairdo. Maybe because the sunglasses are keeping it from being overwhelming, you know what I mean?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/2LIE6ISFQUBIAO7OB6U5TAVXXQ Depot'er

no no no no no to those boots, in that heat? ugh…maybe he likes stinky feet?

    • Spicytomato1

Stank Boot! That was my first thought.

      • OmegaMu

        It was 99 degrees yesterday!

    • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

Those boots are ropers…standard Texas cowgirl wear in the 80′s and 90′s.  I was hoping they’d stay there.  UGH!

  • butterflysunita

Hmmm.  Maybe I’m an especially bitter and grumpy kitten today but I’m not feeling her outfit.  The dress is kind of dull and I don’t get why she’s wearing boots with a summer dress.  Maybe it’s just me.

    • Vickiefantastico

It’s not just you. My first thought was, “boring”. Not a fan of the dress, the boots, or the hair. The fiancée is cute.

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I agree.  And I still think she looks like a 7 year old boy with that hair.

      • Judih1

Ditto. Dress looks twee and boots are wrong color and style for this dress

    • AuntHo

Yeah. She couldn’t have it pressed? I like everything but the dress, but I could have approved it if it looked clean or like it fits (I want it to have more of a waist). I guess I can give her props for not caring, but boring + rumpled = next please.

    • turtleemily

It’s all wrinkly, and she needs a bra. But she’s on my Irrational Celebrity Hate List, so…

  • sockandaphone

okay so out of curiosity because i love the dress i clicked on the link provide and holy moly the model actually MODELS for you. 2012 is awesome!
Also sickeningly adorable couple. and once again, cute dress.

    • mountainFashionista

That website is crazy — It’s like we’ve landed in the future!

    • Pennymac

So cool! It made me want to shop, and shop, and shop,,  (Marketing genius!)

      • sockandaphone

it was my mid-day distraction for sure. i think i got stuck browsing there for awhile…

    • DesertDweller79

Oh my goodness.  What an incredibly good idea!  Why have I never seen this before?  Models actually modelling the clothing!  Bravo, marketing team!

  • Alyson Epstein

That dress is a wrinkled mess and I bet her feet stink in those boots this time of year.  blech.  but her hair is cute.

    • http://twitter.com/stellaphone Stella Zawistowski

Yeah! Where’s the stank boot commentary?

Although I do think she looks cute.

      • Spicytomato1

Haha, I just posted my “stank boot” comment above, missed this.

        • 3boysful

           Me, too.

    • ampg

Yeah, the “loosely rumpled” look is really cute in the picture but doesn’t translate well to the street. Also, STANKBOOT.

  • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

I know this makes me a crank, but I hate cowboy boots (and cowboy hats) worn ironically.

  • RebeccaKW

It’s very cute…but why does her dress look like it was wadded up in the corner before she put it on?  So much cuter on the model b/c it’s not wrinkled.  But, other than that, super cute.

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

Cute. Wrinkled, but cute. Her boyfriend has some serious Ryan Gosling thing going on.

  • teensmom99

I think, dear TLo, that we have found another celeb who listens to you, but sadly, she listens WRONG.  She heard you say she shouldn’t go all twee-Michelle-Williams-y–so she decided against the little flat sandal or ballet flats that would go with this dress.  Not sure if this dress would ever work but certainly not with the shoes.

  • alyce1213

I loathe cowboy boots off the ranch, especially with shorts or short skirts.

    • PeaceBang

I fiercely agree with you. I hang out with a girl who wears gingham dresses and cowboy boots all the time — but she’s GOT A RANCH and two horses and she OWNS IT. (Sorry for the vehemence, but really).

  • Catiline

I dislike the pieces separately, but weirdly, I don’t mind them together.

  • DinaSews

Are they waiting for a bus?  Why are they just standing around?

  • mommyca

Are they waiting for the bus? Taxi? Valet Parking?

  • SapphoPoet

The boots seem a little heavy for August, but she looks really cute. Love the sunglasses.

  • Rin

i thought for a moment that was ryan gosling

  • Spicytomato1

The dress gives me a 90s vibe. And the boots are a puzzling choice. Sandals would  have given the look a much more fresh, summery feel.

And is it me or is her boyfriend channeling Ryan Gosling?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Linda-Harris/1358701372 Linda Harris

Like the dress, hate the boots

  • MilaXX

It’s cute in an LA kind of way that as an  East coast gal I never understood or like. Boot or Uggs with a summer dress always reads STANK foot to me. From the knees up, she’s cute.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

      This.

  • shopgirl716

As a Texas girl I find her boot choice interesting.  Usually LA girls choose the blingiest, tackiest boots they can find.  These are pretty low key Justin ropers that we Texans wear with jeans.  George Strait can usually be seen wearing these boots.

    She looks cute.

  • jw_ny

Are they waiting for a bus?!  ;)

  • VeryClaire

Cute dress but I hate heavy boots with a summer dress. It’s never going to work no matter how many starlets proclaim it “in”.

    • charlotte

My mother keeps telling me about her coworker who wears boots all. year. round. So apparently “normal” people do it, too. Which doesn’t make it any better.

      • VeryClaire

Oh yeah, I see girls around here wearing tiny sundresses with cowboy boots. It always looks stupid.

  • http://www.kittenmasks.com kittenmasks

I really hate the denim dress. HATE IT. It’s so unflattering and the worst 80s throwback ever. Please stop. Anne, you deserve better.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

    Just Gorgeous!

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I could not hate that dress any harder.  Go away, chambray, and never come back.  (Yes, she looks adorable.  No, that doesn’t help.)

  • marilyn

I think the boots look awful, and talk about your stanky feet.  LA is hot this time of year.  Believe me, Anne Hathaway does NOT need rainboots in LA.  Isn’t it horrible that the Brittney Spear’s Ug-boots-with-summer-clothes-look is finally catching on?  By the way, how much longer is she going to have that horrible haircut?  She is a pale, pasty mess.

    • rawrgrowlrawr

I find her very pale skin beautiful, not pasty (said the vampire).

  • Joyce VG

She looks cute here.  All the in love antics just make me wonder what she is like in real life.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

The dress needs a belt, or something. It’s pretty boring as it is.  I will never sign off on boots with skirts/shorts.

  • Judy_J

Her little boots and denim/chambray dress is so very Austintatious to the max.  I see that look here every day, and frankly, I wish something else would come along to knock it out of the top 5.

  • CQAussie

Irrationally can’t stand her and also can’t stand chambray so this whole look is giving me hives.  Cute hair cut still though!

  • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

    Love the shades!

  • Susan Crawford

Yes, that’s an L.A. look, all right. But I can’t with the rumply, crumply chambray dress. Are there no IRONING BOARDS out in LaLa Land? (Not that Ms. Anne would be standing over one, but surely she has people who could press that wrinkly, crinkly frock.)

  • TerryMH

I’m a big fan of Anne. Love her vibe and spirit. But here I can only love her from the neck up. Hate the dress and boots and I’m sure if Rachel Zoe saw this she would “die” and not in a good way. But in a purely selfish way, I love that she looks as awful as all those other twenty somethings do when wearing a variation of this same outfit. It makes her more like the rest of us little people (myself included).

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YX3ZXKZRRAQL5WR5YUJN4KLZXQ fabric

I think Anne looks adorable and fresh in her dress and boots! I also think that Madewell totally stole that idea from Harry Potter. Chocolate Frogs, anyone?

  • schadenfreudelicious

ugh, chambray, hated it in the 80′s, still do…..

  • DaveUWSNYC

I like his hair better than hers.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

Can you say summer boot stank?  Sorry but cowboy boots in August?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

The guy is cute and totally dateable. Can I borrow him for an evening?

  • SignLadyB

I think the dress is cute if wrinkly casual. But I’m with those who can’t get behind boots with skirts almost anytime (maybe with tights, maybe) especially in the summertime! Otherwise, she looks happy, fresh and cool.

  • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

Would’ve been perf with a belt.

  • Patricia Gillett

Hope Annie’s got the SPF 50 on because gf is PALE. She probably burns to a crisp in seconds.

  • nannypoo

OK, I am officially over her hair and it’s time for her to grow it out. It makes her facial features look huge. Also I think the boots are silly, I don’t like the dress, and that leaning-on-the-fiance picture is embarrassing.

  • guest2visits

If you’re going to start dressing all twee like this; Anne, then I revoke that haircut. Immediately.
Please no,-  no to the fashionably wrinkled little girly short smock. No to the plastic looking boots.
I think I could take the dress if it were paired with almost anything else, from sandals to keds.

  • PeaceBang

Oh, gag. I hate her whole new look. If it can be said to be a “look.”

  • UptownNippy

    Love it, Los Angeles style.

  • http://twitter.com/Alloyjane Alloy Jane

Meh, the dress is rumply and the boots are dumb.  Not a fan of this look but the hair, I can deal with the hair now.  Anywho, knowing she’s picking up lunch at RFD makes me not care about what she’s wearing because all I can think of is how much I fucking miss their desserts.  They have a “fauxstess” cupcake that has like, an inch of chocolate ganache on top.  So messy, so delicious…  I hope she had the sense to order dessert.

In her defense, that pedestrian intersection takes THOUSANDS of years to change.  I’m surprised they didn’t lay down for a nap.

  • minnye

Meh on the look but I disagree with the “stank boot” comments. I wear jeans & boots in the field year round, and all you need is a good pair of hiking socks. Guarantee that Cameron Diaz’s cute little sneaks with bare feet inside are way stinkier.

    • anotherEloise

Agree.  Canvas shoes have ten thousand times the stink-power of leather.

  • Lisa

Love it from the neck up. Just not crazy about boots in Hollywood in August, and the dress just looks rumpled.  But somehow, she still looks cute!

  • http://twitter.com/nonchalantanna Anna

This is cute. I see it and I am happy. With all of it.

  • jeeplibby02

Joan Crawford might be smiling, but I seriously doubt that it’s in a downward direction.

  • http://profiles.google.com/melantha.chimera Eileen Duffy

    Like!!!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

She looks absolutely adorable and radiant.

  • oohsparkley!

Meh, don’t love the rumpled too-short-waisted dress or hair. She still manages to look cute.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

It looks like what they wear in prison.
