Anne Hathaway in L.A.

Posted on August 02, 2012

We haven’t been digging Anne’s red carpet appearances lately; partially because we think she was defaulting to a Michelle Williams look that didn’t really suit her, even if she does have the same haircut.

But here? Here she looks just about perfect to our eyes.

Anne Hathaway at the Los Angeles International Airport carrying a Stella McCartney bag.

This is the first time we’ve looked at her with that haircut and thought it really worked for her. Clearly (to us, anyway) she hasn’t quite figured out how to dress up this hairstyle, but she sure looks great when she goes the casual route. Love the skirt; love the denim jacker; and we’re oddly charmed by the fact that her top is really pill-y and needs a session with a sweater-shaver. Also: that purse is kind of KILLA.

  • that’s what i thought, too–i love that she’s got a ratty black top just like the rest of us!

    •  We all do it — put a button-down or a cardigan on top of a ratty tank or tee and hope that no one notices how ratty it really is. She’s normal like us! /sarcasm

      • tereliz

Dude, that’s HOW my tops get so ratty! How on earth do the poly linings from my jackets rough up the fabric over my boobs so much?

  • What on EARTH is “killa” about that purse? It’s so drab.

    • alyce1213

I hate the purse – it’s an ugly black sack.

      • greyhoundgirl

        of deer.

      • Little_Olive

I made my comment before reading this. Thank god it’s just not me! I thought it was an ill predisposition to all things Stella, but no. It’s downright fug.

      • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

an ugly black sack that narrows at the top!  How the hell are you supposed to find anything in that?  Fug is right!

    • GorgeousThings

Stella McCartney bags show up on Rue La La (flash sale website) all the time. They all look the same – drab (thanks for that!) with those ugly chains.

    • hellkell

Why the hell does all of her stuff look like it was put together in someone’s kitchen with a hot glue gun while high? “Pass the Funyuns, I’m making a dress.”

    • Ugh…the only thing that bag would be good for is for one of our local sorority sisters to throw up in when she’s had too much Jager (again).

  • I covet that skirt.

    •  Is there any chance that @tomandlorenzo or another minion might be able to find out who makes the skirt?

    • norseofcourse

Yes, to look that chic and still be so comfy on a flight … perfection.

  • That skirt is kinda awesome.

    •  I understand that you might have a penchant for skirts, but I called it first.

      • Take it with my blessings. I want one bad enough, I’ll make one.

        •  You sew?! Cool! I was just gifted a sewing machine from my aunt a few weeks ago, but I haven’t had a chance to start playing around with it. Pesky grad school has gotten in the way.

          • Yep. I was a costume design major. Been sewing since I started learning at my Mom’s side, when I was 14.

          • One day, I may have to pick your brain. 🙂

          • I would be happy to help!

        • MilaXX

dude you sew? Wish you were closer. I want a few afri pop dresses/skirts for the summer and I’m having the hardest time finding them in plus sizes.

          • mjude

i know what you mean milaxx!  i bet if we have a bottle of fine champagne he just might 🙂

          • Who, me? You are getting to know me very well indeed.

        • Sweetbetty

I’m trying to decide if the upper part is printed with that chevron design or is it striped fabric very carefully seamed to create it.  If it’s printed, that would necessitate finding four different fabrics; the chevron the narrower stripes, the wider stripes, and plain white.  If the chevron design is pieced, there are a LOT of pieces that will take very meticulous seaming.  Also, it appears to be a very lightweight voile or batiste, which might be difficult to find in those prints.  I normally take the I’ll-make-one attitude too but this one could be difficult to duplicate.

          • You’re very likely right. On close inspection of those shots, the part that appears to be white, is in fact rows of lace insertion. So, though I could make something of that sort, would I, without getting my full shop rate? Hells to the no.

  • dress_up_doll

I’m on the fence about the purse as well. Something about it is sort of cute yet half-assed.

    • Rebecca Johnson

That’s pretty much the only nice thing to be said about ANY of Stella’s designs.

    • Snailstsichr

It doesn’t look like it is holding its shape very well.

  • BazoDee

Love it -except the waist on the skirt seems crazy high!

    • Allyson Wells

My first thought as well. It’s too high on her waist, and you can tell from the hem length that it could be pulled down a little. Maybe it’s just because she was riding in a car… we’ll go with that 🙂

    • I was hoping that it was actually a dress with an empire waist. Until I can get them shortened, this is how many of my skirts look, but under my top.

  • I’m loving the sunglasses and skirt..even though I couldn’t wear the skirt, it’s adorable.

  • i want that skirt.  on my body.  now.  all you otha’ mutha’s get out my way!!!

and i’ll take those sunglasses too.

    • Get in line! Though perhaps you, @kiltdntiltd:disqus and I could go in together and buy one. It would have to rotate between us every couple of weeks. Y’know, the same way my sisters and I buy more extravagant items and share them (a GORGE orange Marc Jacobs purse…).

  • Laurie Badger

I don’t really understand why it’s so complicated for her to dress with short hair. I’ve had short hair for years and never considered it to be a complicating factor when getting dressed up.

    • greymain

      amen sista!

  • alyce1213

The skirt’s nice, the jacket is a denim jacket (big deal), but nothing else works for me.

  • Tiffany Birch

I’m thinking that may be a dress and not a skirt and back top? The skirt-part seems very high.

    • Jennifer Coleman

      I agree. Pretty sure it’s a dress.

    • emily mcginnis

agree. i think it’s a dress too. and i covet it.

  • Call me Bee

    Perfect taveling outfit. Yay!

  • Love that skirt. LOVE.

  • MoHub

    I. Want. That. Skirt.

  • MilaXX

I think it works because it’s a normal person’s look. A simple sundress & denim jacket. She appears to have more difficulty dressing up with the hair.

    •  Right. Normal people can look at that and say “I could dress like that” or “I have those/similar pieces in my closet right now.”

  • tereliz

Meh about the purse, but I love that skirt and am I the only one who’s DYING to know what’s in that garment bag? 😉

    •  Haha, I was tempted to google the name on the bag, but I’ve been too busy. Grad school getting in the way of my internet surfing. :/

  • Judy_J

Again with the fabulous shades!  I love that she owns so many different pairs of sunglasses.

  • sagecreek

Adorable! I would also look good in that skirt, right after I grew about 11 inches.

  • formerlyAnon

Like the skirt a lot. The purse is good-looking, but if that chain really IS chain, it looks uncomfy and prone to catch on things.

  • TropiCarla

I’m going to have to pull the pregnant-lady card for only the second time in the past 6 months and head to the front of the line for that skirt.

    It. Shall. Be. MINE!

    • spititout

I have been saying Annie looks to be in early pregnancy for about a month of awkward looks now, and some people got on my case bc there have not been announcments, only rumors, so I don’t have proof.  As a pregnant-lady, what do you think?  Looking back at the past five or so looks, doesnt she remind you of the stage where you go through body changes but you’re not big enough for full fledged maternity clothes and maybe you are still trying to conceal the fact, but got to get comfortable, or else?

      • TropiCarla

Spititout – you, my dear, may be on to something. I just went back and looked at her last few looks as posted by TLo. I could have worn them all during my early-pregnancy incognito phase and avoided detection.

Of course, it may be a possibility that she got sick of the body-conscious clothes for a while after being cinched into that Catwoman suit for so long. She might be just wanting to let her tummy breathe a little this summer. 😉

  • mhleta

It’s a dress and I don’t think the top is pilled, I think it’s textured. Anyway, I adore this entire look from head to toe. The red glasses are the cherry on top. Well done, Ms. H. (See photos of her going through LAX security for a better picture of the dress and shoes.)

  • mhleta

It’s not a ratty tank top. It’s a dress and the top is textured. Love the whole thing.

  • I also love that her sunglasses say, ‘I just can’t take this stuff too seriously.’

  • Cathy S

    She looks very cute.

  • VioletFem

She looks effortlessly fabulous. I especially love the skirt and the purse.

  • Little_Olive

Oh no! I don’t like the purse AT ALL! Is something wrong with me?

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

I think she is very beautiful and I love the sunglasses, but I just can’t with that hair.  It looks like it belongs on a 7 year old boy.  I realize she cut it for Le Miz.  I really hope the movie turns out to be worth it.

  • Love a big bag in the picture. Not sure on the body.

  • l3icest3r

Nothing noteworthy about any of this.

  • marilyn

    She looks great!

  • Susan Crawford

This is a GREAT look for her! I love the pairing of the skirt and jacket, love the red sunnies, and for the first time in years, I’m liking something by Stella. I don’t think her top is pilled – I think it is some kind of textured pointelle.

You go, Annie! And I hope there’s something fabboo inside that important-looking garment bag!

    • Carrieanno

Exactly what I thought when I looked at the top.

Oh Anne, you look cute as balls and like a real person! I am humbles and proud.

  • Thathoodwink

Wouldn’t a huge bag like that–with a chain for a strap–which might be stuffed with a lot of heavy items, kill that nerve that runs from your neck to your shoulder?

  • guest2visits

I think the glasses are a cute change. The jacket’s ok. The bag’s ok. Why don’t I like this together. Not liking the skirt,
plus it’s way too high. The top is not that great, for a plain black top. The shoes are cute. But this whole look doesn’t do much for me,
(and of course that’s what it’s all about – me.)  It’s just ok.

  • Contralto

    She’s adorable.

  • Monabel

    It’s the skirt that’s “killa.”

  • aeg66

Are we certain its Stella.??? It reminds me of the Sex & the City episode were the woman had a purse party after her break up & made them out of crap around the house.Skirt…love but the rest is just a mess. Anne call me. I have a sweater shaver you can borrow. Tradesy for the skirt.

  • TropiCarla

Great link, mhleta! It is a dress and I love it even more now!

  • Wish she still had the Catwoman hair.
