Adam Scott for Maxim Magazine

Posted on August 10, 2012

We never thought we’d say this, but Maxim put together an adorably stylish and cute editorial, with Parks and Recreation‘s Adam Scott.

 J. Lindeberg Hopper jacket, $1,230, and pocket square, $80. Ralph Lauren Black Label Denim cardigan, $595, and tie, $145. Gant Rugger Kick-Ass oxford shirt, $115. Levi’s 511 skinny jeans, $68.

‘Parks and Recreation’ star Adam Scott is featured in the latest issue of Maxi magazine photographed by Peter Yang.

Luigi Bianchi Mantova blazer, $1,000. J. Lindeberg Wesley sweater, $240. Ermenegildo Zegna shirt, $495. Carrot & Gibbs bow tie, $65. Levi’s 510 Super Skinny jeans, $58.

H&M blazer, $80. Ben Sherman Plectrum cardigan, $150, and Marten bow tie, $79. Tommy Hilfiger slim-fit dress shirt, $65.

Gant Rugger blazer, $750, oxford shirt, $125, and knit tie, $130. Carrot & Gibbs pocket square, $35. Levi’s 511 skinny jeans, $68. Johnston & Murphy socks, $14, and Burchfield chukka boots, $165.

Ted Baker London Rythjak blazer, $550, and Prasto shirt, $165. Scott James vest, $145. Nautica knit tie, $55. Levi’s 511 skinny jeans, $68. Johnston & Murphy Arrington wing-tip shoes, $185.

The clothes are a little repetitive (as is his facial expression) but compared to the usual guyditorials, such as “Brooding in the desert,” “Brooding in a diner,” and “Brooding in a Mid-Century Modern house,” this one is hilarious and loaded with personality and great visuals. And while the styling relies way too much on bow-ties, vests, and plaids, it’s a bunch of bow-ties, vests, and plaids we’d love to own. We’ve been sighing over that Gant Rugger blazer ever since the first time we set eyes on it. Did you ever covet an item of clothing so much that you can see every detail of it perfectly in your mind’s eye? Yeah. Like that.

    Such a cute wood-elf…

    • Gayer Than Thou

      I would TAP. THAT.

    • jayme

Ha ha ha sexy elf king?

      • Carly Warnock

yay for parks and rec fans!

  • RebeccaKW

I find it disturbing that a pocket square or bow tie can cost more than pants.

    This is fun and refreshing.

    • Vickiefantastico

Yeah, the cost of fashion is quite ridiculous, when you think about it.

      • Amy Ennis

And we can’t even really see the pocket square to see if it is in fact lined with gold.

    • Meg Burgess

That caught my eye as well. An $80 pocket square. $80. For a square of fabric small enough to fit in your shirt pocket.

      • Vlasta Bubinka

did anyone else reflect back to the great pocket square hilarity of PRs5????

        • Meg Burgess

I had to Google season 5 because I didn’t remember that. I still don’t remember it but I found out Leanne just designed a line of dresses for Paula Abdul. Does Paula have a line now? Or did Leanne design some dresses for Paula to wear? (This conversation could not have gotten further away from Adam Scott.)

          • Vlasta Bubinka

In the episode in which the designers had to design for recent college grads and either their new jobs or to interview, Joe designed a stodgy, traditional pin striped suit for his girl and proudly talked about his pocket square, as Jerrel made fun of it, Tim questioned it, and then Michael Kors quipped “oh, she’s so professional with her pocket square.” Which made Kenley bust out laughing. I mean, the whole pocket square thing goes down as some of the most hilarious PR stuff after season 2’s singing or the lady-wrestler challenge.

Don’t let emmett on the serger!

      • marlie

$80 for a wisp of fabric that serves absolutely NO FUNCTION.

  • hmariec19

    I just love him.

  • Sarah

LOVE. The ONLY problem I have with this is the taxidermied nature of the animals, but the hilarity of the poses would not be possible if they had real teeth, so I give it a pass. So cute!

  • GillianHolroyd

    oops, wrong Adam Scott.

    wandering off to check…

  • Adriana Blair

    He is adorable.

  • Aurora Meyer

Aw. He looks like your favorite high school history teacher. Repetitive outfits for sure, but the fashion and the persona they’re creating for me really suit him.

    • Susan Howard

In fact, he played the favorite high school history teacher (though with a dark twist) on an episode of Veronica Mars.

    • Sara LaBatt

If my high school history teacher looked like Adam Scott I would not have been able to learn anything…

      • marlie

Maybe conversely, you would have paid a bit more attention. I had a science teacher like that.

        • jayme

Agree, I think he would have been wholely more captivating than Mr Showers Annually and was completely bald save for a long ponytail. Cripes.

        • BerlinerNYC

Semi-true. My 9th grade geometry teacher was a hunka hunka burnin’ love, and I was Hot for Teacher. I was actually the star of the class that year, but if you ask me what I remember, it would mostly be the one time I saw him with an unbuttoned shirt after school once. No, nothing untoward involving me…. I wish.

  • Sammi M

Oh my gosh, my crush on him just increased tenfold.

  • Vaniljekjeks

I really love it!  You guys said it… cute and stylish.

  • kingderella

very cute. love the styling, and hes adorable.
    maxim does guyditorials?

  • kimisgold

I think part of the reason it relies so much on plaids is that they’re pretty much his character’s uniform on the show. The only time you don’t see Ben Wyatt in a plaid buttondown is when he’s down on his luck making claymation videos in a gray pajama shirt.

    • Dana WhatTheFrock

I believe it was a Letters to Cleo shirt!

      • LP

The Letters to Cleo shirt made my heart stand still.  Take that, 20-year-olds who don’t get the reference.

        • Amelia Logan

I’m 24 and I still get the reference. come on!

        • jayme

We may be young but we’ve still watched 10 Things I Hate About You five hundred times and Letters to Cleo is a package deal with that movie. Plus, well, when Ben Wyatt advertises something so sexily, you kinda find a previously undiscovered love for that thing.

          • BerlinerNYC

Funny. I only knew them from the Melrose Place soundtrack (unless I’m remembering wrong—other people born in the 70s want to correct me?).

    • Meg Burgess

Or when he’s in the Batman costume.

      • Kathy Schrenk

the Batman costume is So. Hot.

  • pookiesmom

  • Brian @ PWYJudges

Just in case I ever had doubts about my love for Adam Scott, this comes along. *swoon*

  • jw_ny

To quote Hayden  Panettiere…”I’d wear that.”

    • SkipperJane

      But bow ties are cool!

The looks remind me of Chris Hardwick, or The Doctor. Really quite cute. I wonder if Chuck Testa helped with set design.

      • MilaXX

Chris could rock these because he’s tiny like Adam.

  • Maine1ac

I love him, and I think his facial expressions are practically perfect.  He’s also great on P & R.

  • call_me_schmeg

    totally love this guy.

  • Alyson Epstein

    His beard grosses me out

  • a Studio by the Sea

So funny and cute!  You guys are on target with this one!

  • Dana WhatTheFrock

Swooooooooooon. Oh, how I fucking love Adam Scott.

  • unbornfawn

    This is fun.

  • Kiltdntiltd

Okay, so in this case, both the editorial, and the guy are perfectly in my wheelhouse. Could I rock every last bit of this stuff( upper half only) with my regular kilt wearer sensibilities? Hell Yeah! Plus, boyo is mighty adorable as well. Though the very concept of an 80$ pocket square makes me shake a little.

    • MajorBedhead

Yeah, that made me do a double take, too.

He’s adorable. I need to introduce the production person on this shoot to The Bloggess. Her love for taxidermied animals knows no bounds. Although hers tend to be of the weird variety….

      • pookiesmom

LOVE the Bloggess. I totally thought of her when I saw this shoot, also.

      • sleah_in_norcal

my best girlfriend, “back in the day”, had a standing elk in the diningroom and a small mountain goat in the bathroom.  her parrot, named earthquake, used to perch in the elk’s antlers.  we called the elk albert.  i’ve had a fondness for taxidermy ever since.  i mean, the animal’s been dead, why not enjoy his beauty?

    • librarygrrl64

I have a good friend who is a dead ringer for Scott except that he has blue eyes. Similar sense of humor, too. I would send him your way, but unfortunately he is straight, happily married, and has three kids. 😉

      • Kiltdntiltd

I do appreciate you’re looking out for me! Oh and by the by, I love your new icon

        • librarygrrl64

New? It’s always been Batgirl, hasn’t it? Stupid Disqus. But thanks. :-)

          • Kiltdntiltd

LOL It could just me being less than observant. It happens now and again.

          • librarygrrl64

Shall I occasionally change it to a screen shot from Magic Mike to keep you on your toes? 😉

          • Kiltdntiltd

Since I haven’t seen it, (and probably won’t) it wouldn’t get my attention, most likely. But I do love that you’re so willing to pander to my lack of focus.

          • librarygrrl64

I will do quite a bit* for a man in a kilt. :-)

            (*read: ANYTHING)

          • Kiltdntiltd

Oh PSHAW! Thanks! That got a big smile out of me.

          • librarygrrl64

Serious question, actually: do you wear utilikilts or “real” kilts, or a combo of both? I have a friend who is a complete convert to the utilikilt, but I maintain that it is the swing of a wool kilt that provides its allure. He has a plaid aversion and refuses to budge. Utilikilts, while practical, are too stiff to swing.

          • Kiltdntiltd

            Serious answer
1 8 yard formal clan tartan (Douglass)
6 kilts of my own design and make, usually in wool, though I have one in black poly that is my travel kilt.
7 Utilikilts of various colors and styles.
The Utilikilts are great for work, cause I usually have to carry a bunch of stuff with my all the time and the pockets make that a breeze.

          • librarygrrl64

The Douglass traditional tartan sett is beautiful, the one with the muted blue and green. I am not Scottish (well, that I know of; we don’t know much about my dad’s English/British side of the family, but I AM a Celtic-obsessed pasty ginger), so I was told by a Scottish friend to just choose whatever tartan I liked as a souvenir of my trip there. I love my Douglass scarf. :-)
The black poly one sounds very practical. And I bet it has some swing to it. 😉

          • Kiltdntiltd

Its very likely that you have a clan connection somewhere. Mine comes from my Mom’s side of the family.
The black poly kilt does indeed have a lovely swing, which makes it great fun to dance in.

          • librarygrrl64

Super like!!! Scottish country dancing, FTW! Although my class was short on guys, so I always danced on the men’s side (thank you, tall genes…not…) in class, and then when it came time to go to the ball (oh, yes, we did) I got really confused being in the ladies’ line and ended up siting on the side like a wallflower. :-(

And, yes, I secretly hope that I am part Scottish. Even though I was told that my attempt at a Scottish accent sounds like Groundskeeper Willie…

          • Kiltdntiltd

A few minutes on the internet, and you could have your answer. There are a number of sites out there to help one establish clan affiliation.
and your accent attempt sounds charming. Don’t let the haters get you down!

          • librarygrrl64

Oh, I know. But, unfortunately, we know very, very little about that side of the family before the emigration of my great-grandmother to the US other than her last name (Lowe) and the fact that she sailed from Blackpool, which leads us to believe that she was from the north. I had virtually no contact with my dad’s parents growing up. His biological mother (daughter of the English immigrant) died when he was three, and his father died a few years ago. My aunt is trying to dig up whatever she can, but she doesn’t have much to go on. Lowe is a very common last name in England, unfortunately, and there are Lowes in almost every county.

          • Kiltdntiltd

I would say its pretty darned likely that you do. According to the gentlemen at the Scottish shop here in SF that made my clan tartan kilt, any connection whatever, from either side allows one to wear the plaid.

          • librarygrrl64

I hope so! As I told my Scottish friend when he asked, “Who knows? I could be. The English are such a combo of other nationalities anyway. Basically, they’re the mutts of the British Isles.” His girlfriend at the time was English and posher than he, so he enjoyed that. 😉

  • alyce1213

He’s a real cutie pie, and has a personality to match.  Love pics #2 and 3.

  • Joyce VG

What a fun and handsome man he looks like here.  All the girls and boys will swoon.

  • Susan Howard

Adorable. Me love him long time.

  • Sobaika

I love that having the crush of my life (Adam, natch) was able to force Maxim to think away from BROOODINGSEXYSTUBBLEMALESTAR.

  • Heather

    Love the coyote shot.

    • sleah_in_norcal

i think it’s a wolf, albeit a small one.  i just saw a stuffed coyote today, and they look a lot scruffier.

  • lolaleen

    I LOVE Adam Scott!

  • H3ff

I hate jeans with these looks.

  • Merneith

I love the chipmunk photo. He and his chipmunk should be the next Doctor Who.

    • Amy Ennis

I was thinking that shot was very Dr. Who

    • kimmeister

I totally squee’d when I saw the chipmunk.

  • Elizabeth Rust

Charming! I love a touch of humor in a guy-ditorial, and he looks like he’s having fun with it. I love all the photos, but the shot of him distastefully holding the raccoon is my favorite – followed by the too-cute-for-words chipmunk-on-the-shoulder.

  • Sarah

    God DAMN.

    That’s all.

  • marlie

I love these! The 2nd and 3rd photos from the top are my favorites! It’s rather refreshing to see a Maxim guyditorial go for “cute and quirky” rather than “sexy and naked” for once.

    Wow – that’s a sentence I never thought I’d utter.

  • Joalissa Jean

    Love. Him.

  • Kerry McCombs

Love him. I adored Parks & Rec from the beginning but his romance with Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope elevated the show to classic. When he cried in the Batman suit last season? Hysterical.

    • MilaXX

OMG That’s one of my favorite eps

    • twigg

      TREAT. YO. SELF.

  • j_anson

The one with the chipmunk is awesome. Though, *sigh*, hipster chic really is the dominant men’s fashion thing at the moment, isn’t it? I keep hoping if I ignore it long enough it’ll go away.

  • Pants_are_a_must

How hilariously appropriate. I’ve never seen a guy and his editorial so well-matched.

  • Pamela

Adam is hilarious AND adorable-a killer combo!

  • Hermione_Granger

With a chipmunk on his shoulder? Too much cute!

  • MilaXX

I love Adam and this has got to be one of the first guytorials I truly have loved in a long time.

  • Susan Crawford

This made my day! Not only are the clothes really great, but the whole concept of the editorial is hilarious. While I love the shots with the raccoon and the wolf, I must say it’s been a while since a beaver shot made me laugh out loud!

  • VicD

  • AdamBR

Funny…I was actually just reading this editorial. I had to look at the cover again to see if I was reading another magazine and not Maxim. I agree—the styling looks the same, just with different labels and colors. But regardless, it’s a great-looking editorial.

  • SpcilK

    Sexy! Love the styling.

  • Cat_In_A_Hat

“Did you ever covet an item of clothing so much that you can see every detail of it perfectly in your mind’s eye?”

Yes! In fact just a few weeks ago I fell in love with this gorgeous Kelly green trench at David Lawrence… but I digress. How do you decide who gets to own an item of clothing that you both covet? Or do you both end up getting it and then agree not to wear it on the same day?

  • Penny Eager

I LOVE Adam Scottt! That is all.

  • Lexie

    I love this SO MUCH.

  • LP

Hey, why you guys posting all these pics of my boyfriend?

  • Aaminah Khan

Oh lawd, I love him. He is so adorable, I just want to take him home with me.

  • ThaliaMenninger

He looks adorable, but I am bothered by all the dead animals.

  • jsywilson

Forever and always Griff from Boy Meets World to me.

  • Figgy

I’d do unspeakable things to him.

  • DCSheehan

I want everything here. Everything. Mission accomplished.

  • jayme

I love the quirk – from Maxim, who knew? So effing cute.

  • formerlyAnon

Brilliantly fun editorial. Or, at least, seems so in comparison to the usual!

  • Michelle Gennari

He has a HUGE head but he is SO adorable :)

  • ChaquitaPhilly

    Awww! So CUTE!

  • ASK26

to the people complaining about the animals….. I don’t know that that bear is real. It looks kind of fake to me. I was working in a building with. State DNR Nd there was a stuffed bear in the hall and iq WAS real and it looked more real than the one in thY first pi .

  • DaveUWSNYC

Woofs to you all, crazy woodland creatures!

    • sleah_in_norcal

i just visited the natural history museum in yosemite, so i’m feeling right at home here.

  • Amy Ennis

The pocket square in the first shot costs more than the jeans in the first shot. Priorities, people.

    • sleah_in_norcal

is the pocket square hand beaded with diamonds?

  • Vera

Love the clothes, and the editorial is different and kinda cute.

  • TieDye64

Refreshingly adorable. Totally digging the clothes (minus the bow ties).

  • Erin

He looks like the love child of David Tennant and Joel McHale.  Yum.

  • sleah_in_norcal

that $1,000 italian blazer has elbow patches???  since when are those back in style?

  • RzYoung

This is such a cute shoot! I love the concept

  • afabulous50

It would be better without all the dead animals.

  • librarygrrl64

This is adorable. HE is adorable. Well done, Maxim (never thought I’d say that).

  • oohsparkley!

Yes!  He is so freakin’ adorkable!! Luv him.  The pictures were laugh out loud funny  and cute too.
