WERQ: Jessica Alba in Narciso Rodriguez

Posted on July 27, 2012

Gotta say, Miss Jessica has been killing it lately.

Jessica Alba attends the Narciso Rodriguez Exclusive Fall Shoe Collection Event at Barney’s in NYC in a Narciso Rodriguez dress.

Narciso Rodriguez Resort 2013 Collection

It’s all so very scaled-down chic in a ladies-who-lunch kinda way, which is perfect if you’re attending something called a “shoe event” at Barney’s. Brad Goreski has been her stylist for a while now, but it seems like the two of them have really hit a winning streak lately. Not that she ever looked all that bad in the past; just that she’s been demonstrating a pretty sophisticated and grown-up style with virtually no missteps lately. And as anyone who reads this site with any regularity knows, that’s a rarity among celebkind. Love everything from the sleek chignon to the elegant shoes. You WERQ that “ladies who lunch” shit, girl. Snaps of RESPECT.

    I WANT THAT DRESS.

    • http://twitter.com/sebwfu Shannon Beamer

I want that dress as well! SO PRETTY.  However, let’s be honest.  Even if I could afford it (false), I would inevitably spill things on it — because I am just that girl.  Le sigh.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

I am the same way. I’ve given up on light-colored shirts. I should just walk around with a full body apron on all the time.

      • janetjb

I wouldn’t even get out of the house without getting something on it.

        • AudreysMom

In our house, it would be Audrey fur :) But then I’d need the body and I’m just not that girl either.

I want that dress and that flat stomach!  :P

      • Sobaika

Somehow I think the stomach is crucial to looking good in that dress.

    • merciblahblah

I concur. I also wish I had the ability to wear my hair like that and not look like I just got out of the pool or the shower.

  • Allison Woods

I think from certain angles that it makes her look thick-waisted, unfortunately.

    • http://twitter.com/Kathy_Marlow Kathy Marlow

That stripe does look ill-placed, no?

      • Little_Olive

Yes, but I’d say it makes her look flat or board shaped rather than “thick”. It’s the stripe apparently.

      • Le_Sigh

It looks like its censoring her nipples at first glance.

Especially in that first picture, sigh.

    • MissAnnieRN

I agree. But I have an aversion to drop waists. The dress attempts to do something different with the placement of the taupe stripe, but I would like it better if it hit at natural waist.

  • Patricia Gillett

Lovely. But lose the “I gotta pee” pose, please.

  • CassieLee22

Don’t love where the beige stripe hits, but otherwise love it!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XAFAJ53QF3DLEFQB3WTLMRM75E MarinaB

    Very Carrie Bradshaw.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

Really? Why don’t you like the dress?

      • Hermione_Granger

        LOL!

  • drdirection

she looks so much better in that dress than that stick manequin of a model

    • marianna_m

And you think that being bitchy about any woman’s body is appropriate because…

      • drdirection

        I guess it’s because I’m a giant hypocrite.

      • drdirection

Here’s what I meant to say…Jessica Alba looks fantastic in that dress!!

  • Vickiefantastico

I do think she looks great, but are the straps on the dress oddly placed? The back straps are going around her arm in what would be a very uncomfortable way, I would think. Or is it just me?

    • PinkLemon

I tried on a prom dress like that once, years ago. It does AMAZING things to one’s boobs. Trust.

      • Vickiefantastico

Huh. I’ve never seen that. I can see how that would work, though.

    • kimmeister

The placement is indeed unusual; it’s more where you’d expect the internal hanger straps to be.

  • teensmom99

so great to see the proportions all right on a knee-length dress.  Really a breath of fresh air.

    • PinkLemon

yup. that hem length is my favorite.

Jessica Alba is the new and improved version of Jennifer Aniston….only with better clothes.

  • deathandthestrawberry

You know, I find her absolutely dull, as an actress and as a celebrity, but she really is stunning. I love this look.

    • Introspective

Yours and jimmack’s comments above go hand in hand quite nicely! Because Jess is kinda like Jen 2.0.

Together these points sum up exactly what makes Jessica so fun to gawk at in her clothes on a snarky blog but completely torturous to see on a movie screen.

  • kikisayshi

I have been waiting for a really good WERQ (they seem to be few and far between this summer) and this is it! Two snaps, a twist, and a kiss to Miss Jessica!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

Really must be slow in New York if TLO is covering a “shoe event.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I wished her hair was a little less glued to her head, but DAY-UM….for a woman with 2 kids.  Slamming bod girl!

  • TheOriginalLulu

Yes, and I think the hair and makeup are so appropriate for that look. She has a great face for slicked-back hair and it really ups the chic-ness of the whole look.

  • Call me Bee

Excellent!  Mz Jessica looks cool and collected–perfect for a summer afternoon.  That is an awesome dress, and her choice of shoe is much better than the model.

  • BazoDee

Oh DAYM GF -that is a WERQ! I read an interview where she admitted she was struggling to come to terms with her post-baby body. I’d say Stella got her groove back. She looks amazing and confident and fab-U-lous!!

  • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

She does look very chic, although I agree with the comments about the beige stripe. It’s a bit thickifying. I’m not crazy about the shoes – the one the model is wearing are a lot more interesting.

    • tinyredlocks

Agree on the model’s shoes. They are FABULOUS!!!

  • nannypoo

I never like this skinned-back hair. I rank it right up there with the pixie for hairdos that hardly anyone looks good in. But she looks great, and it’s perfect for the outfit. Very sophisticated.

  • janetjb

She looks so summery and cool.  I love it.

    • mjude

i totally agree.  so much better than velvet in july!

  • GTrain

    Very chic

  • MilaXX

I have to admit I never took her seriously as an actress and while she still can’t act all that great, there’s a maturity about her now that I like. Motherhood really agrees with her. She looks great here. In fact I think she’s wearing this better than the model.

  • sagecreek

    Ugh. Too white.

Still, if the unks say werq, I guess it’s a werq.

  • NurseEllen

I like the model’s shoes much better, but she is WERQ-ing the dress much better than the model, for sure.

  • marilyn

She is a beautiful young woman, but that dress is horrible.  It makes her look like she has a muffin top.  Yes, that little bit of fat around the waist that makes her look thicker through the middle.  I don’t know how anyone could wear that dress, except someone like the runwaymodel.  JA is too pretty and shapely for this.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

    She looks great.

  • Carrieanno

Love it.  She doesn’t look like a stony-faced stick figure fembot.  Get that designer’s model a sandwich and something to make her smile.

  • understateddiva

Perfect!  She’s on a roll.  Nice work, Brad.

  • TieDye64

    WERQ indeed!

  • theblondette

The dress is clearly too tight across the hips, which is troubling considering how slim she is!

  • quiltrx

That’s a great dress and VERY flattering on her.  She looks chic and put together.

(she’s great to look at, but I’d prefer not to watch her try to act.)

  • Dhammadina

TLo: I hope you all will re-consider covering Bravo’s “It’s a Brad Brad World” if it comes back on. Where else can you get so many hits of men’s fashions, cute male models, people devoted to their dogs, and an actual committed relationship that is sometimes quite touching, even if it is reality TV. And it has Canadians!

  • NICHOLAS PASQUALE

Not completely sold on the shoes or where that muted stripe hits across her body, but everything else is pretty damn perfect. Accessorized flawlessly.

  • guest2visits

So pretty. Love how the 2 tiny straps make it more elegant than a bandeau would be. Jessica looks great.
Please feed the models. She looks like she going through miserable detox.

  • TheDivineMissAnn

Love the shoes on the model!

  • RzYoung

Oh I love her so much! Stunning, that hair is perfect with it, so fresh and chic the whole thing

  • EEKstl

Perfection.  Love that her mani matches the stripe in the dress.

  • Lisa Kramp

The other thing I like is how healthy she looks here…slender but not rail thin.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Unlike the poor model, whose pelvis is trying to slice through the dress.
