Truth or Dare by Madonna Shoe Collection

Posted on July 26, 2012

So. Madge’s “Truth or Dare” shoe collection is out. She’s really going to drive that phrase into the ground. Come 2039, expect to see “Madonna’s ‘Truth or Dare’ adult diapers on your store shelves.

We joke because we love. Actually, the collection, which ranges in price $89 to $349 and will be available in Macy’s and Nordstrom in August, isn’t bad at all. It looks like you would expect a collection of shoes bearing Madonna’s official seal of approval would look; ranging from classic to funky to full-on fetish gear. It’s Madge in shoe form. Some of those boots are insane.

I love the red leather riding boots and the black and white shoes just above them. The rest, meh. They range from dull to silly.

      • http://twitter.com/AmandaMBetts Amanda M. Betts

        Agreed — derivative at best...SkilledExplorer.blogspot.com

      • jmorino08

Hey you! Remember me? I used to be @charmedimsure. Fancy meeting you here! LOL

    • Sara__B

If you showed me this shoe collection and asked me to guess the celebrity designer, I probably would have guessed correctly. (Except for the sensible reddish/brown boot, which looks out of place but is the only shoe that I could/would wear.) So it’s a successful collection, I guess.

      • jenno1013

If this collection is Madge’s life in shoe form, that sensible reddish/brown boot is her English period.  Is she still talking weird or did she stop that when she divorced Guy?

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Nothing new here.  Wish she would dry up and float away.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I have been awaiting the conclusion of her 15 minutes of fame, for decades now.

        • twocee

That’s the way I feel about Gaga.  Madonna eventually grew on me, like a fungus.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

            I know a good doctor,….

            • mjude

i still love madonna & i am looking forward to seeing her in nyc.  love some of the shoes if i could just wear them.

        • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

Yeah, me too. I love old school Madonna, but everything for the past ten years is just embarrassing.

        • Little_Olive

Yes, oh so much. Although we must admit the 15 minutes were more like 30.

“Truth or Dare”. Really? Really?? It’s so… what Willow Smith could name her collection.
Actually, the combination of style and price feels equivocal as to its market target.

      • YoungSally

        Agreed — derivative at best.

    • http://twitter.com/maggie162 Maggie

J’adore the gray t-strap, but it doesn’t feel like part of the collection at all.  A little too 9-to-5, which is just up my alley.

      • TVKimmy

I did the gasp when I saw those.

    • Paigealicious

I do like the 3rd shoe down. The rest…meh.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bethany-Roullett/100000413803142 Bethany Roullett

I like a quite a few of them, but I still don’t know if I could bring myself to wear shoes by Madonna.  I especially like the black with silver pinstripe ones.

But every time I look at the brown boots, I think that they must be for the most fabulous jedi EVER.

    • Vaniljekjeks

These shoes remind me of my stint as a “dominatrix” at a night club when I wanted to have extra spending money at university.  I am not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

      • twocee

Dominatrix? The TLo commentariat is so much more interesting than other blogs. :-)

        • Vaniljekjeks

It was nothing TOO kinky.  Strictly PG-13 rated small-town BDSM.  It was all about the clothes!

I would have to agree with you there!  The Bitter Kittens are a blog in and of themselves.

    • http://www.facebook.com/AdriannaGrezak Adrianna Grężak

The second shoe is very beautiful

    • kimd19

      feels a little 90s

      • Aurumgirl

Feels a little 80′s to me, which is probably right for Madonna anyway.  I’m sure I watched Jennifer Jason Leigh  murder Bridget Fonda’s boyfriend with that pewter and black D’Orsay pump with the metal stiletto in Single White Female.  Yes, it was an early 90′s film, but at the time I wondered why the character would wear outdated hooker shoes and think herself stylish.

    • sweetlilvoice

I love them all, especially the tall brown boots.

    • PeggyOC

I would love and cherish first grey pair, but I suspect they’re murder on the feet.

    • snarkykitten

oh those knee-high black boots. How I wish I wasn’t a god damn hobbit.

    • http://twitter.com/taijuuuh Taija Hurri

I quite like some of these shoes. The boots? Not so much. But my legs are stumpy enough for the idea of thigh high boots to scare the living daylights out of me.

    • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

These boots are not for walking….

    • sockandaphone

great shoes, love the very first pair…not so sure about the price tag, tho.

    • abigail3

Call me a grandma, which I am not, but these heel heights are ridiculous. They really are bad for your feet and legs and I don’t know anyone, including young women, who can last very long on them. I think this is cruelty to women who want to be fashionable. That said, I think this collection is okay, some interesting ideas, but that russet riding boot is totally out of place!

      • TheDivineMissAnn

True this.  I love the styles of most of them, but the heel height is just too much for moi.

      • Little_Olive

Aside from health/comfort, have you ever seen a woman wearing one of those and i) not feeling she walks a bit wonky and ii) actually thought “that’s a classy lady”?

      • filmcricket

I long since decided that heels that high are not meant for you to stand in, let alone walk in. They are strictly horizontal accessories.

      • LeSourire

The platform trend needs to die. I love a good heel, but at 5’10″, four inches of heel is high enough without 2 extra inches of platform, thankyouverymuch. I love shoes, and lately I can’t find a single pair I want to buy, because all of the heels are ridiculously high. Having said all that, I kind of like the second-to-last pair, and would attempt to wear them if I were 5’5″ or shorter. Alas…

    • SewingSiren

The only thing missing is a pair of rhinestone booties from Desperately Seeking Susan. Will they sell these at Baker’s too?

    • http://twitter.com/ShoeBlogger Manolo Shoeblogger

It is boring and derivative.  The Madonna needs to take the little break and allow herself to recede from our consciousness for the two or three years.

    • Beth G

I don’t hate them.  There are worse shoe collections out there.  And hey… one pair I would actually wear….

    • gabbilevy

I can wear 5 inch heels as well (or better than, really) as the next girl, but those horrid 2 inch platforms that turn shoes into 6 or 7 inch heels are a crime. Cute shoes ruined by the need to go higher and higher and higher. I don’t mind being the tallest girl in the room, but not by a foot thankyouverymuch.

      • AmandaCathleen

I couldn’t agree more. I honestly don’t see the need to ever go higher than a 4″-4.5″ heel. And platforms simply aren’t flattering, period. Whatever happened to the classic pump?

        • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

Since I am 5’9″, these shoes are NOT for me. Nobody wants to see me lurching around like Frankenstein in a pair of 6″ heels!

        • formerlyAnon

As a short person, I am fond of platforms. However, as a somewhat klutzy short person, platforms with spike heels are not for me.

    • AthenaJ

I’m laughing/cringing at the thought of what people would ‘dare’ each other to do in Madonna’s adult diapers…

      • Little_Olive

Maybe they could be designed to creep out of your jeans, you know, like the thongs that the same generation who will wear the diapers once wore.

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

The tall boots are a little frightening, but the shoes (most of them, anyway) are pretty cool!

    • TheOriginalLulu

      That second shoe is HOT.
      Also loving the gray T-Straps.

I’m glad that the 5-and 6-inch heel trend waited until now, when I’m in my 40s and no longer wear heels all the time. My shoe size is 5, so there’s absolutely no way I could wear heels that high. I just don’t have enough foot to wear those shoes!

    • SapphoPoet

Come 2039, expect to see “Madonna’s ‘Truth or Dare’ adult diapers on your store shelves.”

      Hahahahahahahaha!

    • Judy_J

Some of the shoes are kinda cute.  The boots are not very original, are they?  And how the hell did that brown riding boot get in this collection?  “One of these things is not like the others….One of these things just doesn’t belong….”

    • MoHub

Wait! How did that traditional riding boot get in there?

      • StellaZafella

She fell off a horse once.

    • afabulous50

I’d wear the gray t-strap and the brown boot.  For all you who spew the vitriole about her – I still say – do what she does, for as long as she’s done it and even try to look half as good doing it.  Madge honey – I’ll see you in September at Yankee Stadium for your concert – mkay??  Can’t wait.

    • http://twitter.com/amndad amanda lynn

      i like!

    • CaseyinNY

The brown riding boot is really out of place in the rest of the collection…

    • Vickiefantastico

Huge platform shoes have always looked childish to me. Not sure why. This collection is all right. Not fabulous. Although I do love the brown boots.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

She is running so hard to keep pace with her teenage daughter that it’s getting vanilla sad, rather than schadenfreudelicious. I like some of the texture mixing here, with the suedes and quilted leathers. The heels heights are out of the question but I like the piped black suede peep-toe and the two silver suede heels.

    • NurseEllen

The third one down is special, the rest, not-so.  “Truth or Dare adult diapers”–HAH!  Reminds me of the old Clairol ad tag line…”Does she?  Or doesn’t she?”

    • allisankelly

So the 2-inch platform just isn’t going to go away, is it?

    • Anna Maria Diamanti

Love the red/brown leather riding boots, but they don’t fit the rest of the collection. I like quite a few of these, but what I really want are those crazy dominatrix boots she wore in the opening of the Girlie Show Tour.

    • http://www.facebook.com/fiddlecub Kevin VanOrd

If I were a woman, I would wear the next-to-last shoe, the gray suede.

Hell, maybe I’ll just wear them anyway.

    • sashaychante

I’ll just wait for the adult diapers.  Perhaps they will have bondage tape as fasteners.

    • PeaceBang

Oh, I thought these were the Jessica Simpson collection.

    • PastryGoddess

I would wear every one of these except that shoe boot thingy combo.  Love love love.

    • Squarah

I’m so sick of platforms. They make your feet look like hooves!

    • kimmeister

I like the last 3, and the gray T-straps.

I never realized how monstrous thigh-high boots look when they’re not on.

    • Jill Roberts

Knockoffs to be featured at a Hot Topic near you.  Oh wait, they already were.

    • http://twitter.com/starrika Ali

I am so sick of ridiculously high heels. Is it too much to ask for a decent heel you can actually wear?

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Not digging that black platform boot (third from bottom), but for the most part the styles aren’t bad.  I just can’t wear heels that high!

    • jjfg

Surprisingly tame.  Not sure what the fake riding boot is doing in there, though.

    • kingderella

there is some very cute stuff here!

    • lilazander

I love the diversity of styles, and I would wear each and every pair. I think they the collection is very classy.

    • Dr. Derf van der Derf

I hate them all except the grey t-strap, but even then I don’t like the color.

    • aristida_girl

I love the black and gold booties and the brown riding boots, i die i die!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emily-Smith/12431153 Emily Smith

god i HATE platforms. HATE HATE HATE.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emily-Smith/12431153 Emily Smith

but i do really like that first pair of heels that are sans platforms.

    • theblondette

      Yawn.

    • MilaXX

Some of these aren’t bad, but that brown boot doesn’t even look like a part of the collection. Besides not being black, it’s far too normal looking for the rest of the collection.

    • michelle shields

seen it done a million times already. yawn

    • LaylaSV

I recognize nearly all of them from Madonna’s videos or red carpet appearances. This is honestly a lot better than I expected. It looks like she really paid attention to the cut especially on the silver d’orsays and the studded, ankle strap stilettos. That said, I covet the black and gold booties in the final frame. Covet.

    • AudreysMom

OK, except for the dominatrix boots, my model (literal) 19 year old would totally buy these shoes.

    • quiltrx

LOVE the third pair down.  Retro and pretty.  I also like both solid-grey ones, but not as much.  The rest is okay.

    • Nonnah

If it didn’t have a platform, I liked it.

    • MK03

The silver t-straps and platform t-straps are pretty fab.

    • guest2visits

Some things I’ve seen before; actually most of it. But I do like several, especially the last two.

    • http://twitter.com/Aeva86 Eva A

In ten years we shall all laugh at these hoof shoes. Why would you want your feet to look like they belong on a dominatrix horse? Ahahaha, good old 2012.

    • RzYoung

I’m saying this completely without irony: they’re not very original are they?

    • http://janeaustensworld.wordpress.com/ Vic

It’s pedestrian and derivative. My thought was: Why bother?

      • Flooby

Binzactly- with the exception of one or two pairs I believe these (esp the boots) are already available at Ross.

    • http://twitter.com/pattiginpa Patti Geric Gossett

To me it looks like a collection of Louboutin (high pumps pointy toes) and Valentino (studs) with a dash of gasp Rachel Zoe (black textured suede and leather) knock offs.  not quite as blatant blatant ripoff as Jessica Simpson’s collection but still – you can see the DNA.

    • jmorino08

That first pair of grey shoes is to die for! Live the brown boots, too, but they don’t really seem to fit with the rest of the collection. That pair of boots with the cut out looks hella painful!

    • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

      So incredibly hiddy.

    • TomBord

      stick to nipple-slips madge !

    • http://opinionandamovie.blogspot.com/ Deitra S.

The second from the top looks like sex in shoe form. I covet.  The next to the last one looks like something that would be worn by a Batman villain – in a good way.  Nice.

    • http://twitter.com/MissMaineSP Miss Maine SP

love the concept, but I bet women will HATE wearing these. Madge would have been wise to think critically about heel height/placement on some in order to maximize the wearer’s experience. I can see women all over the United States going out to try, and maybe even buy these shoes, all for them to end up in the “too high to walk” bin. I think we could have done a better job of giving women the opportunity to really wear, and love these iconic pieces.

    • understateddiva

Ugh.  I liked the Material Girl line a lot more.  Maybe she should’ve consulted Lourdes on this one.

    • bluefish

I still enjoy Madonna in measured doses.  Am breatlessly awaiting the demise of the super heavy and dangerous looking shoe.  Many of these are just hideous hooves.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LQCWTMQOWW5EQOQDF55NKK2B7Y Nancy H

Okay, tell me the truth.  Is she really wearing any of these?
