Mila Kunis for Dior

Posted on July 17, 2012

Vindication, darlings. It tastes sweet. We said last week, upon viewing ELLE UK’s attempt to get her all Bardot’d up, that “big-haired sex kitten” was a poor use of Mila’s charms and she’s much better when she’s working a chic, romantic exoticism; not so much Bardot as in the vein of Audrey Hepburn or even Sophia Loren in some of her more buttoned-up roles (think Charade and Arabesque, film fans).

Well, shut our mouths. Here’s Miss Mila for the latest Dior campaign, looking like she’s ready to do some international spying with Cary Grant and/or Gregory Peck. Chic, gorgeous and classically romantic imagery. Perfect for her.

Fantastic bags. I don’t love the first picture, but the last is lovely.

      • BazoDee

Ha -I feel exactly the opposite. I love the first -the last not so much!

        • Phyllis Craine

Same here, the last two need more bitchface

    • Kiltdntiltd

Mmm boy howdy do those stylists love getting her up in big hair. She looks terrific, though.

    • antheapena

Oh my lawd. Miss Maude, stunning, elegant, classic. Almost nice to have had the other not-such-great-use-of-Mila to compare

    • Sobaika

Gorgeous! I don’t even mind that they’ve rubbed vaseline all over the camera lens.

      • Cindi Williams

I know! I thought, “Is she Cybill Shepherd?”

    • KC

I love it! She looks beautiful.

    • mjude

      love it

    • abfidy

More lens flares than a JJ Abrams movie, but she looks fantastic.

    • Isabel

So powerful she can hail a cab from a balcony and it will fly to pick her up! Go Girl

    • Pants_are_a_must

She’s beautiful, but that’s not Bardot in the first picture; that’s full-on Jackie O. The second one looks more like the Kunis we normally see, though even then it seems like a mildly droopy Kunis. Half her draw is her sassy charm, which is sorely lacking in these pictures.

Seriously. This is still way too Cotillard for my taste.

      • Shreya Aren

I think the black and white has something to do with it. She would look much better in colour, especially with those eyes!

      • minnye

I agree with you, although I like the angles of her face here. She’s gorg no matter how she’s styled.

      • TieDye64

Yeah, that’s what T Lo are getting at. This isn’t so much the Bardot angle and it suits Ms. Kunis much more than the sex kitten thing. Lovely.

    • Henry

      Complete Win.

    • MilaXX

Pretty. I want that first bag, not so much the second one & lose the hair bow.

    • Vlasta Bubinka

She looks great but that hairbow looks like something she wore as Jackie Burkhart.

    • alyce1213

These poses are awful and artificial.  Who/what the hell is she looking at/waving to/hailing up there?
      It’s all meh.

    • guest2visits

Is she hailing a heliocopter?  Much ado about… a bag.
Well she is very pretty, and I like the long skirt in the second pic.

      • formerlyAnon

        I was imagining a Jetsons’ style air-taxi.

      • AthenaJ

Exactly, is she waving to someone in the next building??

      • HengRu

Maybe she’s indulging her Eva Peron fantasies, saluting the adoring masses below.

    • formerlyAnon

Now THESE are photos that should sell some handbags.

    • uprightcitizen

Wow. In the first shot, she’s pure Anne Bancroft!

    • formerlyAnon

P.s. Usually the conceit of having the star “photographed being photographed” leaves me cold, but for some reason I like it here. I don’t know if it’s somehow better done than usual or if I just have a soft spot for her.

    • afabulous50

Are celebs putting models out of business?  More and more ad campaigns are using celebrities vs. models.  Then, they make these celebs look so different you wouldn’t know who they are.  Why not just use a model??

      • AthenaJ

You can thank Anna Wintour for that.

      • CozyCat

Because now that she is under contract, she will very ostentatiously be carrying Dior bags every time she makes a formal public appearance.  (or at least that ‘s how it works with most of these stars….)

The ad campaign is less important than all the free publicity they will get over the next year.

    • Jason M. Galloway

LOVE the first pic…alas, she looks like one of the troll twins in the second.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

I do love me some Charade… and these are great photos!

    • TheOriginalLulu

      Holy crap. Gorgeous!

    • PinkLemon

      hate the hair

    • ccm800

I prefer the makeup on the Elle ed – hate the hair on both

    • 3Beaz

These are gorgeous, but she doesn’t really look like herself here.  I think she looks more like Marion Cotillard than Mila Kunis….

    • tereliz

In comparison, the Elle editorial seems almost uncommitted to the look in a way that the Dior campaign shots embrace wholeheartedly. Mila looks so chic here!

I prefer when there’s a “story” to an editorial or ad campaign, rather than just some shots with pretty clothes/hair/makeup, and this is a story that intrigues me! Thanks, Carine!

    • Aidan B

      Shut up. This is fabulous.

    • BrooklynBomber

I’m getting Ann Bancroft & Leslie Caron’s love child. Which is just weird.

    • andreawey

I thought this post was about Mila Kunis…..

    • ThaliaMenninger

Jacqueline Bissett is what I see.

    • filmcricket

It is with great trepidation that I venture to disagree with you guys, but … I thought the Elle UK look was much better for her, even if the pictures weren’t as good as these. All those diaphanous shoots during the Black Swan hype didn’t really seem very *her* to me, beautiful though she looked in all of them. Her beauty is earthy rather than ethereal to me; Loren I can get behind as an inspiration, but I don’t get Hepburn at all. As lovely as Mila looks here, it’s too “done” – she is sleepy eyes and bedhead all the way.

    • poketom

The pictures are gorgeous but that tweed bag looks like they borrowed it from Chanel.

    • LambeeBaby

Clothing is lovely, bags are great, All of the pics are great, but I don’t even recognize her in the first 2

    • Emily Wilkerson

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen her look more beautiful than she does in the first picture. Gorgeous.

    • Call me Bee

Wow.  She looked so weirdly out-of-place in that last editorial, and here she’s perfect.  Without the exargerated hair and clothing, she has a natural 60s vibe.  Beautiful!

    • Angela

She does look beautiful, but…this is so aging on her, to me. I don’t know why they’re trying to push her as a sophisticated 30-something year old woman. Wait, how old is she anyway?

      • Tom and Lorenzo

She’ll be 29 next month, so “sophisticated 30-something” doesn’t seem all that far off the mark to us.

    • granddelusion

Must be nice to have bones like that.

    • raena colby

      didn’t even recognize her.

    • CassieLee22

      LOVE the last two pictures

    • redgauntlet

Watch her. She is transforming herself from a second banana in a 90s sitcom into a real star presence. The camera loves her and she loves it right back.

    • judybrowni

Beautiful, except for the last two which have photoshopped Mila’s waist into a bent straw.

    • P. Capet

      i’d watch that movie!

    • TieDye64

Wow, you guys seriously called it. This is fabulous and she looks gorgeous, as always.
