Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama Collaboration

Posted on July 10, 2012

Darlings, Louis Vuitton’s latest collaboration with polka dot-obsessed Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama hits stores tomorrow, July 11th. If you’re in a lady bug kinda mood, then this has got you written all over it, kitten. Cute pieces all around, but these pictures are pure ’80s pop album cover art. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, come to think of it.

Picture 1 is cute, kind of over it by picture 2.

    • Just point me in the direction of the bitches that need cutting so that they can be mine, all mine!..MayorMoney.blogspot.com

  • JasmineAM

It’s very cute, but my eyes hurt.

  • schadenfreudelicious

i dont generally like campaigns that make me want to pop a Gravol….

    • And now, when I look at the wall all I can see is spots…

  • OMG!  Those black and white shoes!  Just point me in the direction of the bitches that need cutting so that they can be mine, all mine!!!

    • filmcricket

       Ditto! To die for.

  • marilyn

The clothes are passable.  I hope people aren’t going to walk around with red and black dots all over their bodies.

    • … or holding up little pieces of fabric in strategic places.

      • tereliz

RIght? I felt bad staring at the model’s naked torso long enough to discern the coin purses she’s using to cover her tots.

  • Vaniljekjeks

I feel kind of dizzy, but that dotty see-through raincoat-dress-thing must be mine.   I’d even wear a bikini in public if I had this garment.

  • Some of the pictures are like “Where’s Waldo.” Takes some effort to actually find the clothing among all those dots.

I do love the see-through rain jacket.

  • Never mind.

  • hughman

All I see is Minnie Mouse although a lot of the looks are Goofy.

  • I think I just had a seizure.  As seizures go, though, it was pretty fun.

  • MilaXX

this is realy cute. break these pieces up with some solids and it’s a very wearable collection.

  • I am not polka dot obsessed, but I think this is really cute. I could let a little polka dot into my life, via one of those bags.

  • EEKstl

Charming!  The chunky-heeled pumps are adorable and love the transparent raincoats, but I’ve always been a sucker for transparent rain gear, ever since I had one of those clear plastic bubble umbrellas back in the day.

  • Jangle57

Minnie Mouse called; she wants her dress back.  Sorry, polka dots just don’t do it for me; they might ok at first glance but on second glance and beyond, they get progressively too cutesy.

  • I can not BELIEVE how cute this collection is.

  • quiltrx

FUN!  In the imaginary world where these things fit me, I WANT a pair of black/white dotted capris and a pair of the Minnie Mouse pumps!

  • SpcilK

Much Too Much! I do like the see-through raincoat!

  • kimmeister

I love the pumps, the clear raincoats, and a few of the bags (not together, of course).

  • Pants_are_a_must

Somewhere between fetishistic and conservative, but in a very cute way. Is it wrong to say that I see Tokyo written all over this collection? It’s too bold for NYC.

  • That’s an awful lot of dots, but man, I’d crawl thru broken glass for those black pumps with the white polka dots.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

The clothes are cute but the styling is tacky – and not even fun-tacky.

  • theblondette

The clothes are fine, but mostly I love that these are with Yayoi Kusama – she’s amazing!

  • Little_Olive

And here I thought (after the Stella McCartney overkill) polka dots were once again over.

  • Kate4queen

my eyes!!! Katy Perry should be all over these. 🙂

  • choco

This is some ugly shit O_O

  • CheriCPat

There is something strangely sexy about those see-through trenches.  I love this!

  • j_anson

It’s a fun set of pictures, although after painting all those spots on everyone, I guess it was easy to miss when they forgot to actually put any clothes on girl #4.

  • Who is the model?  She looks Japanese in some pictures and Western in others, and, speaking as a multiracial person myself, I think it would be awesome and totally fitting if they used a mixed-race model for this international collaboration!

  • jmorino08

I can’t help but think Minnie Mouse when I look at most of the red pieces, esp. the skirts, but that doesn’t stop me from coveting that red trench and the see-thru trench with red dots!!

  • 5HT

I love polkadots, but the second to last photo with the red dots on bare skin just makes me think of chicken pox.

  • rumcg66

I’ll be seeing spots for an hour now.

  • FOR THE ART MINDED: I guess this was timed for her recent retrospective at the Tate Modern and the one that’s opening at the Whitney now. I am excited to go to the Whitney.

  • another_laura

It’s adorable.  Very young and fun and I can totally see putting together an outfit featuring one or two of these, even at my (ahem) advanced age.  I challenge you bee-yotches over those black and white pumps they are MINE, I tell you!!

  • Haley Buchanan

I think it’s adorable.  Most Louis Vuitton would have me with their own initials and slot-machine-looking cherries and things like that all over me.  The polka dots and bright colors are quite cute – and I’d allow them all over me!

  • guest2visits

Some of this is cute.  Or maybe they’re just selling the spots. Too much of a cute thing.

  • ziarah

Kenley will be upset she didn’t think of this.

  • frankystein123

I honestly has no response to this.

  • TieDye64

Those b&w pumps are so freaking cute.

  • How did he know that I just need a transparent mac to wear over my granny panties?

  • flamingjune

Oh look, a 3rd shoe!  I guess I’ll use it to cover my breasts.

There must be better ways to achieve strategic nudity…

  • Seems like they’re selling the fabrics, not the fashions.

  • Aurumgirl

Not for me.  There isn’t a lot of depth in a polka dot print, so it’s easy to be “over it by picture 2”.  And these are basically pyjama pants and T shirts worn with ordinary pumps after all.

  • Claudia Fernandes

    it’s Mondo!!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

LOVE Kusama! This is my kind of collaboration. If I win the lottery, it’s the clear trench all the way.

  • KSpence

Where’s the NSFW warning? My boss, and probably my career, is a little worse for the wear after she walked in and saw me scrolling through this.

    •  Really? Is your boss particularly delicate? I would have thought potentially an epilepsy trigger warning, but there’s nothing risque here!

      • KSpence

4th from the top is pushing it.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

i remember making a comment on here about a year ago in which i noted that MJ’s ad campaign w/ helena bonham carter was pure kusama-derived. the reason i remember it is cos some person whom i had never either seen or noticed hereupon decided once again it was time that me, myself & my perpetual disabling headpain were yet again up for a comeuppance & so thereby & therefore shrieked at me that i was, yes, totally wrong &, of course, didnt know what i was talking about. i wear out about people sometimes so didnt have much [read: anything] to say in return; i guess, however, that his new collection speaks louder than i ever have or ever could.

otoh, he is doing considerably better work over the last couple of years, this collection included. if i’m alive [debatable], i’ll be looking for it next year on ebay.

  • I believe there is such a thing as too many dots.  That felt like some sort of psychological test.

  • ccm800

The clear and black rain coat is cute – the rest is UGH

  • Love the shoes.

  • tereliz

I kind of want a polka-dot Peter Pan collar now. Only I promise to wear it with a shirt.

  • Logo Girl

Yayoi Kusama is one of my favorite artists, so this is interesting to see. I am not yet sure how successfully her work translates to fashion. I may have to look at this a few times.

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I love this collection!!

  • PinkLemon

  • annrr

Overall love it, because I love polka dots, but some of the red pictures hurt my eyes. I like the yellow ones, especially when the model is sitting on the floor. Although it looks odd to me to have three shoes,  I think the  shoe missing from her right foot would have been sexier.

  • padma sallah

I would buy all of those shoes in a heartbeat if I could afford them.

  • Tricia Combs

All the red and white polka-dot ones make me think of a Target ad, but a really cute Target ad.

  • annrr

And I’ll take the red with white dots dress (or coat) , those fab black pumps and I can’t decide betw the red tote or black tote.

  • notterriblybitter

I see they’re making “Put me In The Zoo” into a movie. Seems a little odd that they’re targeting a mature audience but I guess it could work.

  • oatmealpie

Minnie Mouse on acid! Can’t wait to buy the knockoff version of the big red bag.

  • aristida_girl

Love, love love! I am not really a polka-dot kind of girl but I could e persuaded by some of these pieces..I especially love the rain jackets and shoes

  • I would do some terrible things for those raincoats, oh my goodness yes

  • J’adore those clear raincoats.

  • Tatiana Luján

    Minnie mouse.

  • Qitkat

Couldn’t help but think of Kenley. It might be too much even for her.

  • Terence Ng

So these were all made for Jessie J, basically.

  • I love the flat sandals. Them I would wear. The rest are not for me.
