Lea Michele in IRO

Posted on July 05, 2012

Geez, we thought Kirsten’s dress looked a little heavy for Paris in the summer, but this looks positively torturous.

Lea Michele leaves the Ritz Hotel in Paris in an IRO sweater.

IRO Ivey Sweater

Is she retaining water and trying to sweat it all off by the time she hits L.A.? Sure, it’s not that hot in Paris right now (we checked), but a sweater and knee-high boots in July? Is she nuts?

Cute look, though. For NOVEMBER.

  • I don’t know what it’s been like in Paris, but in the UK it’s definitely been November weather lately. Apparently the heatwave that’s stuck in the US should have travelled across the Atlantic, but since it didn’t, we’ve had freezing rain, hail, wind…

    •  This is definitely true. I’m in London and I was wearing my wearing my winter coat and scarf in June. Wtf?!

      • raininmai

I’m in San Diego and I have my space heater running under my desk! It’s surprisingly cool so far this “summer.”

        • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

We’ve had the same problem in Seattle – rain, rain, and more rain, and the space heater running in July, and NOT because of air conditioning.  We’re finally supposed to get into the 80’s next week – hurrah!

As for Ms. Michele, she looks good and isn’t flaunting the good china or her tits.  I’ll give her a pass.

          • emcat8

I saw this and went, actually, she looks like she lives in Seattle. I’m so excited — today I actually got to open all the windows and wear a t-shirt. We get excited here about little things, don’t we? (Where are you in Seattle? I’m over in West Seattle, myself… nice to see a fellow BK here.)

          • makeityourself

I’m sure all of you know that 90% of the country is dying under sweltering heat?  It has been 100 degrees or higher in the Midwest for almost two weeks now.  We had no winter at all — more like a protracted fall — and then went right into super high temps.  It’s dangerous and scary.

          • Sara R

Same here in Honolulu – mostly chilly & rainy…with small spurts of summer scattered throughout the week.  What’s going on, West Coast??

          • Leslie Kim

you’re in honolulu?  that’s where i’m from!  only right now i’m in boston, with 80s humid disgusting-ness XP  thank god for my roommate’s AC…. ><

          • I wish I could send this heat across the pond to you. It has been unbearable here in NY...MayorMoney.blogspot.com

          • Taurwen

Seriously!  I live in Los Angeles and it’s been pretty cloudy and cold the past couple of days

          • Jill_3

I feel you, fellow Los Angelino. What is WITH this weather???

          • Taurwen

I know! I’ve been wanting to go to the beach, but I’d just freeze my butt off.

          • I feel your sticky dampness.  Attendance at Fourth of July fireworks displays in the towns around us is really off here in the Upper Midwest.

Last night at 10 p.m. it was 91 degrees.  Who wants to be mosquito bait in that heat?

Is Lea wearing leggings for pants?  Fie on her!

          • RzYoung

London Calling: I love reading about where everyone is from! TLo International for sure 🙂

          • patticake1601

I think I passed out from heatstroke just looking at her boots! It has been so hot here all week. We lost power Friday night in that huge storm that hit us and got it back Monday morning. We were lucky, there are people a few miles from here still without power one week after the storm. I can’t imagine how it has been for them this week, 90 to 100+ days all week. DC is a hot humid swamp, literally.

          • boweryboy

I’m on Capitol Hill in Seattle. It’s cool to know there’s a BK PUFs contingent in the Pac Notrhwest.

      • theafternoonknows

Paris…London…Seattle – oh, excuse me. I’m just making a list of places I need to live because it will be 103′ here today. I used to live in Seattle and I miss what we not so lovingly called “June-uary.” Sigh. Oh, right…Lea – sweater, boots…great, WERQ, whatever. I’m too hot to care.

        • Melissa Brogan

Seriously. I too used to live in Seattle. I desperately miss rainy summers. I’m stuck sweltering in Michigan for now.

Lea? At least she feels chilled enough to wear a sweater. Lucky bitch.

    • TheOriginalLulu

I wish I could send this heat across the pond to you. It has been unbearable here in NY.

      • Jecca2244

and in Boston. hot, still city.

        • Seriously. NYC here, and it’s supposed to go over 100 tomorrow. I hate air conditioning, but I’ve been living in it for a week, because outside is just that unbearable. Starting monday, it’s supposed to dip down into the low 80s, fingers crossed.

As for Lea, I’ve seen starlets in winter wearing less clothing than this.

      • And in Utah, with no measurable rain in our area for almost a month.  There are wildfires burning all over our state, including on our mountain less than a mile from our house.  Mandatory evacuation for the last 3 days.  😛

        • PinkLemon

i’m in salt lake right now with my space heater running under my desk!

          • True – we got the first rainstorm here today in over a month.  We’re especially delighted here in Alpine since it’s helping put out the fire on our mountain.  I’m now legally back in my house again (until the rain hit this morning I was illegal). 🙂

      • MoHub

The DC area is setting records for both temperatures and duration, not to mention power outages.

        • I’m in DC area, too. I can’t believe the actual temp. for tomorrow is supposed to be 103 and some people still don’t have power after seven days. That sweater is cute, but I cannot even look at her!

          • littlemac8

I’m so sorry.  I’m sweltering in St Louis with a projected high of 109  WTF….BUT I am every so grateful for AC.  We had a big storm that knocked power out for about a week a couple of years ago and I realized I take electricity for granted!

          • MoHub

We were smart enough to invest in a generator after our last major power outage and were able to power about 2/3 of our house, including AC on two of four floors and the ceiling fan on the fourth floor, as well as our fridge and stand-up freezer. And fortunately, we were able to provide freezer and fridge space for our neighbors’ food and run them an extension cord, so they didn’t have to throw out any perishables and had minimal power to get them through.

Our gas bill, however, is probably going to be astronomical after running the generator for 5 days.

      • twocee

Chicago checks in with hot and miserable.  We feel your pain.

      • Call me Bee

Yes–here in Cheeseland as well.  Wisconsin is “up north”, but even the real up north has been in the 90s.  101 here in MKE yesterday.  Ugh.

      • JasmineAM

I can’t deal with anymore 100+ weather. 106F last week.

    • Yes, it hasn’t been a very summery Summer here in the UK.  Its not brilliant at the best of times; and as a girl from Arizona, its been pretty hard going.

    • It has been chilly chilly chilly here in Dana Point, although the clouds just broke through the marine layer for the first time in 3 days, so I’m off to enjoy the sun.  I’m so sorry for those of you who are sweltering in the heat.  I truly hope you get a break soon!

    • I’m near Ottawa, CA and it’s incredibly hot this summer. The fewer clothes I wear, the happier I am.

  • PinkLemon

I take solace in the fact that that sweater probably cost waaaay too much, and it’s ugly.

    • kimmeister

Right?  You couldn’t pay me to wear something that’s shaped like a bubble.

      • PinkLemon

In fact, I don’t think I like this look at all……..are those leggings as pants?? CUZ NO.

      • littlemac8

        YES to this!!

  • Teeny ladystars don’t have much body fat, and therefore the normal rules of “hot” and “cold” do NOT apply to them as it does to warm-blooded (insulated) critters like the common people. If it’s under 75 she’s probably chilly and looking for a nice flat rock and a heat lamp.

  • schadenfreudelicious

did you say torturous or hideous?…

    • Sobaika

      It’s both. ICK.

  • blogless

It is cute for winter and I think she looks adorable. Love those boots. If I didn’t know how expensive it was I wouldn’t give that sweater a second look.

  • Whats with the shoulder/duffel bag? I have seen suitcases smaller than that. Out/Fail.

    • gsk241

I absolutely agree!  The “big bag” trend is getting ridiculously out of control.  Seriously, I could live for a week out of a bag that size, and I don’t even have an entourage of handlers to carry my stuff for me!

    • formerlyAnon

I like that look, especially for city life, especially in plain unadorned expanses of leather.  In my experience it’s practical (unless your body can’t take the wear & tear) and I only wish my various oversize bags over the years could have been of fine leather.

I do recognize that in this, I cling to a “look” long passed.

  • Beth G

At least she’s not giving the face.

  • If I were wearing this right now I would be compelled to rip it off my body. It’s 95 degrees. (OK, I’m not in Paris, but just looking at this makes me break out in prickly heat.)

Sorry, Brits. Would be glad to send some heat your way…

    • theblondette

I so wish we could weather tradeoffs. Would be amazing. We had the wettest June in recorded history over here, and not in a sexy Magic Mike sort of way. Ugh.

  • mjude

its so damn hot here just looking at a sweater makes me want to scream & take a shower

  • Is she in Banff in October?

    • Hiptobesquare

      Banff!  HAHAHAHAHAHA!

      • Just the funniest thing that came to mind that was winter related. (smirk)

    • MissAnnieRN

Used in this context, “Banff” sounds like the noise I might make seeing a sweater on anyone in summer. Regardless of temperature, there are many ways to stay warm yet still look seasonally appropriate. This is not one of them. Banff.

    • schadenfreudelicious

i live not far from Banff…she could easily be wearing that sweater right this moment…:)

      •  I’ve been there, and its amazingly lovely country. Yep, a sweater there right now, not far off truth, that.

  • SapphoPoet

I was wandering around our Fourth Fest yesterday in the 90-degree heat and saw a girl wearing jeans and high suede boots. I lost ten pounds in sweat just looking at her.

  • damnfinecupofcoffee

So this excuse won’t work for Paris, but as a New Orleans resident I can sometimes be found wearing sweaters in the summer due to the fact that as hot as it gets outside buildings feel the need to make it conversely cold on the inside.  I’m always freezing from the a/c in the summer and an outfit like this looks perfect for the way I feel.

  • RebeccaKW

The sheen tells me she is wearing leggins (not jean leggings) as pants.  No!  At least her butt is covered, but just barely.  NO.

Also, I kind of hate the sweater.

  • When she finally covers it up chic-ly, its effing summer.  What gives Lea?

  • angryparsnip

ugly sweater aside is she wearing pants ?
    cheers,  parsnip

  • MilaXX

That is just stupid looking. If it’s warm enough that Kirsten is wearing a sundress, it’s definitely not the weather for a sweater and boots. Even if she was worried about AC indoors, surely she could fit a sweater or wrap in the giant bag she’s carrying. Oddly enough her hair and makeup look cute.

  • 3boysful

I  think she looks cute, but here in the South of the USA, where we had some 110 F last weekend, it’s making my skin crawl.

  • Spicytomato1

Even if it’s chilly that’s no excuse for wearing a fall/winter sweater and boots. There are far more appropriate ways to keep warm during the summer.

I don’t know why she is bugging me so much, I think it’s partly the glasses, which give her a bug-eyed look that for some reason just adds to my inexplicable rage.

  • MarieCharie

I live in Paris and it’s been pretty cold and rainy for the past few weeks. Definitely not a summer weather. I still wear tights with my skirts and I even often wear my trench coat so I’m not surprised by the way she’s dressed.

    • crash1212

Thank you! I live in San Francisco and I have tights and boots on today! It’s freezing here today! I think we have to learn that just because it’s July doesn’t mean it’s warm everywhere. I understand that it’s eleventy billion degrees in the Eastern US right now…but not everywhere! Give these shilly little starlets a break.

  • judybrowni

hey it came from the free bin of a designer pushing his fall line

  • Kayceed

This is her back-to-school outfit that she couldn’t wait to wear.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Too funny!  I remember suffering through some seriously hot days at school in new back-to-school jeans and sweaters!!  A slave to fashion even then!

  • Jill Roberts

It’s in the low 60s and intermittently drizzling there.  I’d be wearing a sweater and boots too!

  • Who packs boots for a summer trip? Granted it is cooler in Paris and someone checked the weather forecast before flying over but even with unusually cool temps, who would think, Ah! mustn’t forget the boots!

    • alyce1213

I know!?! Especially those heavy black/brown ones.

    • another_laura

I wonder whether she packs anything more than the bare necessities?  She probably had a stylist and racks of clothes awaiting her in her hotel on arrival so she could plan her entire wardrobe.

  • tbk2

I was in Paris a bit over a week ago and it was cold. That sweater looks comfy, but maybe switching out the black for white would have been better for the season?  She looks cute.

  • Judy_J

Wow….can’t remember ever seeing Ms Michele so covered up.  She must have some sort of awful skin rash she’s trying to hide.

  • Joyce VG

LOVE the sweater.  She must have been chilly.

  • Linda Harris

I live in Milwaukee and it hit 102 at noon

  • FlamingJune1967

She looks cute and very young here.  The men behind her are all in suits and no one is talking about how inappropriate for summer they are dressed.  Yes, In know suits are a standard… but why must it always be a double standard.

  • Aurumgirl

I’ve heard it’s been very cold over there too.  Wintry, actually.  Hard to believe when we’ve been getting 40 C/90-100F weather here in Canada for several days now, and will be for about another week to come, when they say it will drop to 80F/30C.  Just looking at these photos makes me feel overwhelmed with the heat.

  • SignLadyB

Well, at least you can’t say ‘of course’ to this one. She is fully covered.

  • NurseEllen

Wow, is Paris suddenly in the southern hemisphere, and it’s mid-winter there?  How bizarre.  And if anyone wants to warm up, come to NC.  We’re on our 6th day of ridiculous, over 100º temperatures, and you can have ’em.  I shudder to think of my electric bill this month since the A/C is running nonstop.

  • Call me Bee

Adorable for November.  For July, she looks silly.  She must be one of those celebs who regard the outdoors as that area between her front door and the cab.

  • formerlyAnon

She looks SO CUTE here. Seasonal or not.

  • Glammie

Okay, seasonality aside, I really like her braid.  I never see her wear one and it’s a cute look on her.  She should do it more often just to liven things up a bit.

  • All I could think was: check out those dudes behind her in the two piece suits. And unlike Lea they didn’t have the option of putting on a nice skimpy dress. Who the hell decided that only woman get hot anyway?

    • greyhoundgirl

The same people who decide that in the middle of winter when men are dressed warmly women are supposed to wear skin-baring outfits!

  • julnyes

enh, it is chilly in Paris and I think she looks cute. I like her hairstyle and I would totally wear that sweater, but with actual pants and not leggings.

  • Actually, up until recently it hasn’t been particularly warm in Paris.  Not to mention that what Lea’s wearing is significantly lighter than what a lot of Parisians are wearing–and Lea doesn’t have to take the metro!

  • nannypoo

I dislike this self-centered little snot so much that I can’t even say she looks cute when she looks cute. Even if she had saved this for November I would be unable to acknowledge that any part of it is cute on her.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Yeah, that’s the way I feel about that Kristen Stewart girl.

  • sagecreek

A sweater and boots? In July?

Oh, Lea. When we told you to cover up the T&A, this was NOT what we meant.

  • msdamselfly

    She looks great

  • Is there a rule that you must dress according to the season–and not according to the weather and temperature? I live in San Francisco; yesterday I wore shorts, and today I am wearing a jacket, because the weather here, while mild, can fluctuate. Do we expect celebs to dress according to the season where we exist, and to be uncomfortable for the sake of fashion because we assume that the weather everywhere is the same where we live? Yes, when you want to look good you make sacrifices for comfort, but if there was a chill, why does Lea get called out for it when she looks otherwise adorable?

I thought the ideas of “wear no white after labor day” and “match your purse to your shoes” were long disposed of. Why are we so stuck on this idea of seasonal appropriateness? If it’s clearly hot and a celeb is in three layers and a trench, fine. But this criticism gets silly, and trust me–I am the first to jump on the “Lea Michele? Of course” bandwagon.

Edit: Pardon me for sounding a bit bitchy. But this one grates me for some reason. We assume the temperature must be a certain way at this moment of time at a very specific place, and so we berate Lea for wearing a cute outfit that warmed her up. For some reason, it made me sad and cranky.

    • another_laura

That’s okay, doll, that’s why we’re the Bitter Kittens, non?

    • crash1212

I’m with you Kevin! I live in SF also and today – Friday – I’m working in a building on top of Russian Hill and I have tights, suede boots and a buttoned up cardigan over my dress…it’s windy and f-in’ COLD! This whole ‘dressing for the season’ was grating on my nerves as well and I thank you for putting it far more eloquently that I ever could!

  • janetjb

So it’s been cool in Paris, but she still looks dressed for winter.  I’m sure she has a cute spring trench and jeans that would be more appropriate in July.

  • Right. I checked a weather site for Paris. Since June 29, daytime temps were all above 60F, reaching a high of at least 70F every day. Lowest temp at night was 54F. I don’t think she was in danger of hypothermia.

    • Tamara Hogan

I’m relatively thin, and 70′ is sweatshirt weather for me. I’m completely down with Lea on the sweater, but maybe some white jeans instead?

  • H3ff

I can’t speak to Paris, but here in Brussels (a bit further north) I am SWEATING BALLS. I don’t trust those online temperature things.

  • I was in Paris this time last year, and it was pretty dang cold. I don’t blame her!

  • shopgirl716

Nice to see her covered for once.

  • MinkaL

I actually just left Paris and I don’t blame her. It was chilly. I was wearing my massive Lafayette homme sweater that I stole from my boyfriend a lot. And not just at night. Except for the day it was inexplicably 90 degrees. Weather makes no sense anymore. She looks cute.

  • sk8tfan

Out of season, but a cute look for her. I like her hair like that. She should drop the faux sex-bomb act and dress like this more often, it suits her much better.

  • butterflysunita

I think her outfit is very cute–maybe one of my favorite looks from her.  The low is in the 60’s in Paris right now, so boots and a sweater might be quite comfortable for her.

  • What is going on with these women? Sleeveless cocktail dresses at February fashion week and sweaters in Paris in July. I’m at a loss. Last I checked, I made fun of people who dressed inappopriately for the season.  I will give her a pass if she is on her way to the plane. Leggings and a sweater on the plane with a flat braid and big carry-on makes sense. There. I have done it. I have sat in my office and created justifications for Lea Michelle. I hope she appreciates it. I’m sure she does.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Maybe she’s planning on shoplifting a lot while she’s there and she wanted the big sweater and big bag to stash her loot in.

  • guest2visits

Agree – this looks good on her, but I don’t even want to think about wearing something like this unless it’s in the 50s. (degrees)

  • quiltrx

Wow.  She managed to find a top that will make both her pits AND her cooter sweaty and stinky.  Not good.

Let’s see how she holds up here.  We’ve been triple-digits for weeks.

  • snarkykitten

she looks like a 6 year old. wtf

  • Candigirl1968

What makes this so looopy is that on an average day, Lea is in something that is plunging and cut up to her cooch and generally barely dressed.  Here, where something that was more skin baring would have been appropriate – since it is the middle of the summer – she decides to dress for a ski vacation.

  • PaulaBerman

It maxed out at 70 degrees in Paris today, so it’s not like she was wearing it here, where it’s 90. But still… those boots are not seasonal.

  • Suzanne Chaplin

Whew for moment there I thought you all were just going to talk weather . But finally some you found time to bitch about her.  Geez she looks  cute and if she is comfortable who the f*ck cares.

  • i don’t care about the weather, i think this is really cute, best she’s dressed in a while.  her red carpet looks are usually a no for me, but that might be the silly poses creating a force field of no.

  • Adele Zhang

It’s actually really cold in Paris right now. The sweater infact would be something I would wear if I were to walk outside at this moment. the boots may be a bit of an overkill though.

  • I keep imagining  you guys melting away in this hellish summer heat wave!
Why are you so obsessed with the season appropriated  chlothes? Its not even 70º in Paris right now! Its not that its not that hot, its not hot at all!

    • We ,ust be a hardy lot in the midwest….no sweater until the temp drops to 50.  Mid 70’s is daisy dukes and flip flops weather.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

It’s only 68º in Paris now. She probably needs a layer or two.

  • What ever could she be carrying in that HUGE purse? Perhaps her summer clothes? Umm, where did her cheekbones disappear to?

  • Melissa Brogan

All weather related commentary aside, her sweater is bubble shaped and she’s wearing leggings as pants, but I’m giving her a pass for not showing off her tits and/or legs.

  • sagecreek

    Donde estan los tios?

  • KE Tucker

Yes, where are T & Lo today?

    •  According to their twitter, they are taking the day off. Now I can stop obsessively checking the site for a new post.

      • KE Tucker

Thanks for your information.  I am not a twitter person, so I am woefully uninformed!

      • sagecreek

Thanks, Susi! I also don’t Twitter, so I appreciate the update…I was starting to worry about our boys!

      • Joyce VG

Thanks!  I was going through serious withdrawal.

  • redgauntlet

The decline continues. She has begun to look ordinary and tired. People, we are watching ‘Der Untergang’ of Leah Michelle.

  • ASK26

No celeb women would not wear this in November that is for strapless or sleeveless. So odd.

  • ManicOrganic71

West Los Angeles here and it has been chilly, gray during the day and the sun just breaking in around 4PM or so.  Still, a sweater and boots is bit pushing it.  I love the weather report from everyone that loves Tom and Lo.

  • Look how great she looks when she’s not doing that goofy red carpet posing!

And I like that bag – and I’ve been looking for a new bag. Nice, simple ones without logos or studs or frou frou have become hard to find.

  • Judy Raddue

“Is she nuts?” In a word, YES.

  • As we are in the middle of yet another heat wave here in Philadelphia, I can barley look at this without sweating. She does look really cute here though.

  • KatDuck

Love her hair and the texture of the sweater. I just can’t get behind that shape but she looks cute despite it.

Puzzled about the bag – that’s the same size as my standard duffle I use as luggage. I can fit a week’s worth of clothes in there, so what’s she hauling around? Doesn’t she have people for that?
