Kevin McKidd at “Brave” Premiere

Posted on July 02, 2012

Good morning! Happy Monday! Would you like some finely aged Scottish ginger to get your week started off gently, yet still leave you refreshed and stimulated?

Kevin McKidd attends premiere of new Pixar animated movie “Brave” in Edinburgh, Scotland.

We thought you did.

    • RzYoung

      Yep, that’ll do it. Ta

    • fallen_ikon

      sigh…I love him.

    • Michael Wightman

      um. Oh. my.

      • Melvis Velour

Which in Texas would be “…mah stars ‘n garters!”

    • Kiltdntiltd

Le Sigh.  Nothing like a hot man in a kilt to start you off right. Not that I’m biased or anything, you understand.  And when he’s a ginger on top of it all?  Hoo Boy Howdy.

      • AudreysMom

         with some haggis and shortbread!

        • Kiltdntiltd

I actually love haggis, when its freshly made.  The frozen, or tinned stuff, is beyond horrible.

      •ía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I agree, I can hear that adorable accent in my head already.

      • moppet

Some interesting trivia about the Tartan:

      • Aniela Marie Perry

I feel drunk when I see a hot man in a kilt. Seriously.

        • Kiltdntiltd

           Right there with ya!

    • Lily

Oh man. That is exactly what I needed this morning. Oh yes.

    • Heather

      Men in kilts = hot.
THIS particular man in this particular kilt = exceedingly hot.
      Thank you, TLo.

      • Merneith

        Couldn’t have said it better!

    • megohd

Never have thought of myself as a kilt girl, but WOW.

      • call_me_schmeg

yes, i always found myself distracted by those little nut-banging satchels. but this manly ging can turn a girls head, now!

        • Kiltdntiltd

           heh heh heh
          “nut banging satchels”
I will never wear mine again without thinking of this.

        • Hiptobesquare

Respect the sporran!  Especially when it’s settled on such nice geography as this…  He is lovely!

        • MilaXX

I’ve never heard of the sporran being called a nut banging satchel.

          • call_me_schmeg

            that’s what i’m here for. :)

also, my ocd is screaming to turn all those little silver square buttons the same way.

    • sherrietee

I so desperately wanted my husband to wear his clan’s tartan for our wedding, but he was never a fan of the colors – said he’d look like a christmas tree. Ah well.

Thank you for this lovely morning pick me up.  Yum.

    • foodycatAlicia

That is a very attractive man. Happy Monday!

    • Christine Somers

white kilt socks and dancing shoes!!! nooooooo….not how it should be done at all, at all!

      • Kiltdntiltd

Its simply the traditional attire, when dressing in full on formal fashion as Mr. McKidd is doing.

        • Corsetmaker

          Yup. Exactly,
so yes just how it should be done at all, at all :) Only thing I’d question is that sporran he’s wearing :/

          • Kiltdntiltd

Contemporary sporran with a slide closure?  Yeah, not really formal enough.  I have a fairly plain leather for everyday wear, and a chased silver and rabbit fur, for formal.

            • Corsetmaker

It’s way too casual. I’ve got a friend that makes day sporrans as a sideline, and often I like them better than some of the formal ones, but this stands out a mile as wrong. If it had even been black it wouldn’t have been so noticeable!

            • Kiltdntiltd

So, I guess what you’re saying is, one of us needs to get it off of him.  Don’t worry, y’all, I’ve got this!!!

            • formerlyAnon

Dang. Your willingness to take one for the team is so . . so . . . inspiring. If you don’t come back we’ll put up a nice memorial.

            • Kiltdntiltd

I could never do less for all my fellow BKs.

            • Corsetmaker

              I suspect I’m a hell of a lot closer though….. race you ;b

            • Kiltdntiltd

      • librarygrrl64

Yeah, boots are sexier than ghillies, but he’s still damned fine.

    • Economie

But is he wearing his kilt in the traditional manner? Inquiring minds want to know!

      • Kiltdntiltd

Within kilt etiquette, at formal occasions, such as a ball, reception, presentation to royalty, or in this case, a red carpet, underthings are considered to be proper.  However, over the last several years, these rules have relaxed considerably. So the goods may indeed be swinging free.  The world will never know.

        • gabbilevy

I volunteer to make the examination.

          • Kiltdntiltd

Get into the no doubt long line of would be inspectors.

            • Sierra Delta

Or devout people praying single-mindedly for an almighty updraft?

            • Kiltdntiltd

               Amen, Halleluiah!

        • Corsetmaker

Depends as well whether it’s a hire or his own. A lot hire places are insisting on underwear now. But if I were to take a guess I’d say he’s wearing it traditionally :)

          • Kiltdntiltd

Nice to know!  I’ve never hired one, so I was unaware of that. Makes sense, of course.

            • Corsetmaker

Totally, I dread to think what they get back sometimes!

            • Kiltdntiltd

            • librarygrrl64

I feel like that about every hired/borrowed suit that Michael Fassbender wears. 😉

        • Sierra Delta

I’m decidedly relieved that no one has ever expressed the least interest in what I may or may not be wearing under my kilt.

          • Kiltdntiltd

Then, my friend, you are a very lucky person. I get “the question” every single day.  My stock answer is, “No one gets to know, without dinner and flowers, first.”  Most of the people I know who wear kilts with any regularity have a stock answer to hand for that occasion.

            • Sierra Delta

I learned about kilt etiquette from an RAF officer.

It was the early 60s, and he and his family had been posted to the U.S.  They were ecstatic about the assignment until they discovered that in military-speak “U.S.” meant “Tennessee.”  They were a lovely family, and his wife and my mother bonded over a shared ladylike admiration for Prince Philip.

I think Capt. C. was very homesick for the green of the English countryside, as who wouldn’t have been, stuck in a tiny dusty town whose commercial center was a five and ten next to the railroad tracks.

We fed them their first American Christmas dinner.  After multiple toasts to the holiday, the RAF, the USAF, the Royal Family, and each other, my mother got up the nerve to ask about kilts and their underpinnings.  Midway through the very detailed response, we children were excused from the table.

            • Kiltdntiltd

I love this story!!! Thanks for sharing it.

        • Coco Oli

I think he could have gone with a more formal sporan given he’s wearing the more formal kilt jacket and bowtie.

    • ChaquitaPhilly

So cute! I’ve loved him since “Topsy Turvey”. Thanks, guys!

      • Tammy_4

yay, a Topsy Turvy reference!  Loved him in that (and “Rome” of course)

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Loved, loved Kevin McKidd in Rome!

      • another_laura

Thanks for making me go look that up – I loved that movie and did not remember that he was in it!

    • MilaXX

      Hello kilt!

    • bluefish

A gorgeous tartan.  He looks smashing — the movie to so sweet.

    • miagain

      ain’t he purdy?!!

    • Le_Sigh

Invigorating!  Love me a cup of McKidd in the morning.

    • YoungSally

Won’t Gaga’s HGH be jealous of TLo’s new BF?

    • SapphoPoet

I have no idea who this gentleman is, but he looks fabulous. I love a man in a kilt.

      • schadenfreudelicious

he currently plays one of the Dr’s on Grey’s Anatomy but has done a variety of things (including narration on Call of Duty, so my teenage son tells me)

    • Dawn Sinclair

No thanks, my nicely aged Scottish ginger is much hotter

      • formerlyAnon

You are blessed. Twice blessed for realizing it!

    • hmariec19

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a MAN.

    • AnaRoW

Every time I see him (or Ray Stevenson or James Purefoy) all I can think is what a shame it is that “Rome” didn’t last more than two seasons.  Especially when none of them have done anything since that I care to see.

      • MilaXX

Well Kevin at least has done movies & has Grey’s Anatomy. James Purefoy I see occasionally. Mostly recently he was on Revenge for a hot minute. Ray Stevenson I haven’t seen in a minute. Oddly enough my first memory of Kevin is from Trainspotting and I can still look at him with lust.

        • Corsetmaker

James Purefoy is lovely! I didn’t mind Ironclad so long as you suspend any idea of history. And he’s in Episodes if anyone watches that. I believe the new series is just starting in the US.

          • MilaXX

I haven’t watched Episodes but I hear good buzz about it so I may check it out.

        • Kerry McCombs

If you like Kevin McKidd AND James Purefoy you have to look up the little British indie film “Bedrooms and Hallways!” They play GAY LOVERS in it! No, I’m not joking.

          • MilaXX

I have seen it. Several times

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I can still picture the expression on James Purefoy’s face when Caesar was assassinated in the final episode of Rome, season one…heartbreaking.

    • Susan Crawford

A Scotsman in a kilt? Nothing finer – and the ginger hair is a nice bonus. Thanks guys!

    • gsk241

Men in kilts are so hot. I just don’t understand why my Japanese/Korean-American husband won’t wear one. :-(

      • AthenaJ

Take him to a Rennaissance Faire and tell him kilt wearing is mandatory.

        • gsk241

I tried that, but unfortunately he didn’t fall for it.  On the plus side, a lot of other men did!

      • another_laura

It can be done!  I know a terrific Korean guy who totally fell in love with the bagpipes and wears a kilt whenever he can, for the love of all things Scottish.

    • Terra Walker Mrkulic

Love him from the HBO series “Rome”!

    • Corsetmaker

He’s looking well. Kilt the right length and everything :) Only thing is that sporran, it’s a bit of a day number.

    • Robert Murphy

      *abject whimpering for 10 minutes*

So..not to sound ungrateful or anything…but the kilt is hanging in a funny way, yes?  They normally don’t hang flat in the front like that, do they?

      • Corsetmaker

Yes, a kilt is flat at the front.

    • afabulous50

      Yeah Baby!

    • formerlyAnon

Damn. I feel like I should just quit while I’m ahead. No need to look at any more Internet pics today.

And, I say that whilst gently wishing he’d shaved.

    • Barbora

Thank you so much TLo *sigh, sigh*

    • Pants_are_a_must

      Hi Lucius Vorenus hiiiiiii

    • VicksieDo

    • Tessie Bee

Ahhhh, Kevin McKidd, fondly remembered ffrom such iconic fare as Dog Soldiers and Rome.

      • corvina

Yesss – loved him in Dog Soldiers.  He was also the gorgeous lead in the short-lived sci-fi series Journeyman.

    • formerlyAnon

Jeez. I had to come back and look again to fortify myself for the day. I think I have the strength, now.

    • mjude

    • AthenaJ

      Well helloooooo there!!! Thanks TLo!

True story: when my fiancee and I had our first conversation (we’d met briefly a couple years before), he was dressed up as Rowdy Roddy Piper for Halloween. I had always thought he was cute and, due to my nervousness, I proceeded to drink waaay too much… and in my drunken state I looked down at his kilt, noticed his kilt bag, and blurted out that I liked his ‘package’. Needless to say, he was very confused until he looked down and saw what I was talking about. My best friend next to me though the entire thing was hilarious, of course. Good thing I was too drunk to be embarrassed :)  Anyways, it was true love from then on… getting married in a year!

      • Marie Ee

        ADORBS. Love it.

    • quiltrx

Yum…how adorable is that smile??  Good LORD but he’s aged nicely since Trainspotting!  What a hunk.  Sort of Boris-Becker-ish, and I was always a sucker for Boris.

    • JennaMarieS

Saw this post and all I thought was “YES”

    • Ashley

OWEN?! He’s scottish? where the hell have I been… daaaaaaamn

    • Amy Yoder Bryan

I do so love a man in a kilt.  Lovely way to start the day!

    • Lina_bee

I love Scots formal wear. Also, those brogues are kind of completely awesome.

    • skadi1

THANK YOU! He’s my absolute favorite, and the kilt bonus is AWESOME.

    • alyce1213

      Now THAT’s a hot ginger!

      • AudreysMom

(taps foot waiting for Damien Lewis, too).

        • alyce1213

          Uh huh

    • aimee_parrott

    • MajorBedhead

What is it with red-haired men? And red-haired men in kilts? *fans face* It’s getting warm in here.

    • janetjb

      Very nice.

I’ve never seen a sporran quite like his.  It’s not appropriate for the RC, but it’d be perfect for a weekend at the games

    • SpcilK

      Ahhhh! Thanks.

    • Dan Alexander

      Thank you Tom and Lorenzo!

    • TieDye64

Oh yeah. NOW it’s a good morning.

    • Corsetmaker

It seems the tartan was designed for the film and can only be woven with their consent. I’m really not sure I can get behind a Disney tartan! It seems wrong somehow :/
Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane, Kelly MacDonald and Ewen Bremner were also there. Not in kilts though.

      • another_laura

Oh I was wondering what tartan that was.  I looked up “Kidd” and no, not that.

        • Linda Merrill

It’s the plaid the characters wore in the move. There were a couple of kilted gents in the premier photos with the same one. I so wish my late night bf Craig Ferguson would have worn it too!

      • formerlyAnon

It seems DEFINITELY wrong that there is a Disney corporate tartan.

      • SignLadyB

Ooh booo! I really loved the colors of that tartan and was hoping to adopt it for myself.

    • SarahBeth

      GAH. Well.

That just started my week of well.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

      Wonderful.  Thanks fellas!

And everyone should go and see Brave!  Mr McKidd does two voices in it and one of them is so completely impenetrable that even the other characters can’t understand him.  It’s a lovely, lovely film.

      • Natalie Marshall

In an interview I just read, McKidd mentioned that the impenetrable accent is based on his own grandfather’s, which he can only understand because he grew up hearing it. I almost died of “aww…”

      • bitchybitchybitchy

OK-now “Brave” is officially on my must see list!

    • Sara__B

      Thank you.

    • Joyce VG

    • tereliz

      Yes, please!

    • thoroughlyME

Hate the buttons on the jacket. LOVE everything else.

    • TheOriginalLulu

      Very nice. :)

    • Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      Better than coffee!

    • AudreysMom

Thanks TLo, I needed this. I intentionally saw the movie this weekend for it’s voice talent (especially this particular ginger whom I fell in love with watching Rome). What a waste! You’d barely know he and Craig Ferguson were in it. Consider my longing visually managed.

    • e jerry powell

The McKidd tartan is doing nothing for his eyes.

Other than that, I’ll have three, please.

Or as the bruthas say, Goddamn.

    • MinAgain

I give him two ginger snaps with a twist.

    • Melissa Mellon

    • jimmack

      Jacket fits perfectly. CHECK
      Shoes shined. CHECK
      Hands out of pockets. CHECK
Very hot guy. CHECK. CHECK. CHECK.

      • Corsetmaker

This could be the answer to the hands in pockets issue. Kilts!

    •!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      Happy Monday!

    • emcat8

Mmmmm, Kevin McKidd. Thanks for this morning wake-up.

    • Snickleboom

Owen Frikkin’ Hunt!  Thank you for this!!!

    • LambeeBaby

      Ginger Rules!

    • guest2visits

Handsome. I like that he looks like he’s part of a regiment or something.  Or at least that’s what I always think when I see tartans.
That, and you know; the other.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Ah, nothing quite like a good-looking Scot in a well-fitted kilt! Thanks to my favorite uncles for this treat!!!!

    • Aniela Marie Perry

    • granddelusion

      Love the sporran.

    • Julaine Morley

Lovely. Once again, taking care of your precious unborn fawns.

    • ThaliaMenninger

He’s in Topsy Turvy on my TV right now. Oh, Kevin McKidd.

    • kikisayshi

      Yes, please.

    • mrspotts66

      i didn’t know i needed that.

    • How to Faint

I can never see him without wanting to scream THIRTEEN! :3

    • 1woodlot

      finely aged ? he’s only 38

    • YolandaHawkins

To me, he will always be Vorenus from HBO’s Rome.  Love the pic, love him!  Thanks TLo!

    • Aurumgirl

      Happy Canada Day to Me!

    • Corsetmaker

LOL! I love that this is Disney/Pixar’s interpretation of ‘subdued, organically refined, less saturated’ colours! They’ve clearly knackered their retina’s at Disney 😀

    • HobbitGirl

Bring back the Red Carpet Kilt!

    • Heidi Cochran

God bless Scotland.  I wonder if Mr. Future could wear MY clan’s tartan if he doesn’t have any Scot blood…?
