Kelly Rowland, Rocking It

Posted on July 10, 2012

Believe it or not, this almost inspired a WERQ post.

Kelly Rowland attends release party of her new album “ICE” in Berlin in leather pants by Jitrois and Christian Louboutin pumps.

Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle’ Pump

Now, before the Bitter Kitten cries of “WHAT? A WERQ? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME, T LO?!?!” just hear us out.

Can you go out in tight leather pants and a white t-shirt and look hot as shit? Do you know many people who can? Exactly. This may look effortless, but she is, in fact, wearing a minefield of an outfit; something mere mortals would never be able to pull off. And as far as we’re concerned, she’s pulling it the hell off.

But we are not without our quibbles, hence, the withholding of the much-sought-after “WERQ!”

We think something as simple as a white t-shirt and leather pants requires glam styling to make it red-carpet ready. And while we love the necklace, we think jewelry with a little more pop and color would’ve been a better idea. We also think a brightly colored or metallic shoe would dress this up further. And finally, while her makeup is empeccable, it’s just a little too nude and clean for the look. Clearly, “clean” was what she was going for here, what with all the neutral colors, but some disco-jazziness would have gone a long way.

Still, she looks fresh, sexy, and cute. And that’s one killer bod she’s rocking.

Kelly is one of the few celebs who manages to ‘rock a killer bod’ while still maintaining cute as a button status.

Even snakeskin I might be okay with.  She needs different earrings.  The necklace is cute, but does not go with this.  I LOVE her hair...MayorMoney.blogspot.com

Best part is… she KNOWS she looks good. It’s a fundamental trait for any WERQ-worthy diva.

    • lucyloo222

I am speechless as I try to fathom how she managed to get those jeans on.

      • Sobaika

        Baby powder.

        • Rand Ortega

I always think of that “Friends” ep where Ross goes into his dates loo & tries to use baby powder to get the jeans off & winds up turning himself & the pants into a pasty disaster.

          • Sobaika

            YUP!!!

      • DeebaCee

She better not ever have to go to the bathroom

      • AudreysMom

spray can. They peel off at the end of the day (one time wear). And sorry, bathroom breaks not allowed.

    • RebeccaKW

Yes, I love this look.  That ‘clean’ rocker look.  I do wish the shoes were different-the same style would probably be okay, if in a bright color.  Even snakeskin I might be okay with.  She needs different earrings.  The necklace is cute, but does not go with this.  I LOVE her hair.

    • Clueless_Jock

Looks good though I’m not sold on the shoes.

      • call_me_schmeg

ding! ding! ding! it is july, people? what is wrong with a dang strappy sandal?

that said, go on with your cute ass self, girl!

      • lovelyivy

There are a million phenomenal Jimmy Choos that would have been fly as hell here. Those shoes get a meh at best.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

I see lovely, fit women every day, leaving a yoga studio, who could go this route, should they choose. It’s not out of the mortal woman wheelhouse. That said, Kelly looks completely adorable.

    • SophieCollier

Fantastic body.  I would have gone with a lower, possibly v-neck tee for her.  Totally right about the metallic shoe.  Or maybe a little bit fetishy leather?

    • Vanja a.k.a Emma a.k.a. M

I would wear leather trousers every day, if I had a body like hers.

      • Sobaika

        I would be naked.

        • Vanja a.k.a Emma a.k.a. M

          :)
I’m afraid, I’m too practical for that. I like a bit a fabric between me and, for example, a public transport bench.

      • kimmeister

It’s not just the body though, you also need the right event for them!  I sadly gave up some suede pants just because the few times I tried to wear them in my not-famous life, they just felt contrived and out-of-place.

        • adnama79

          Me too.

At least, in my 20s, pre-baby, I had the body and the pants and no place to wear them.  Not enough courage to wear them to the bars/clubs.  But I *did* rock the heck outta my red velvet pants…

      • TieDye64

        Oh, hell yeah.

    • BazoDee

Oh I think this deserves a WERQ! The styling and make-up might not be my first choice but it is flawless.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I often try for the “jeans, t-shirt, stiletto” look and it just never works out right.  Damn her for being on a red carpet in leather pants and a white tee, showing us how it’s done!

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Hair and makeup are flawless.  For that alone, I’d give it a WERQ.

    • miagain

I doubt she’ll be very “fresh” after a night in those pants…

    • Pants_are_a_must

It’s a family-friendly rocker look. Styled within an inch of its life, but she wears it very well.

    • Lilithcat

The shoes look like they wandered in from an entirely different outfit.

      Ankles up, yowza!

    • http://twitter.com/UtterlyCreative Utterly Creative

I don’t like the hair. Makes her look too innocent and pure for this outfit.

      • roadtrip1000

I had the same reaction. Her hair style reminds me of a little girl’s pig-tails.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

It Werq’s for me, this is a very comfortable, chic look for her that isn’t strying so hard for once. Agree about the shoes, though.

    • kikisayshi

      She does look pretty fab.

    • moppet

I’m definitely in agreement that she could have found a better shoe. But, I have to quibble with the idea that her accessories should be more glam or that her makeup was too subdued. Obviously, this is just a matter of taste. But to my mind, this is a daytime event, clearly on the informal side, and I think that she nailed the details of the look considering the surroundings and the time. If it were in the evening at a club, maybe I’d say differently.

      Anyway, she looks great.

    • PinkLemon

love the styling, LOVE the hair

    • Catiline

      Impeccable!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2B6U4UNVYIV5DLEG6Z24ALYOC4 Dan Alexander

I love that she is not afraid to show us her real hair! The back part of the hair may or may not be a piece, but the scalp is natural they way it was meant to be and not bleached or dyed some unatural color ( Rhianna, Beyonce ) Kelly looks adorable and cute as can be!

      • MilaXX

Oh the back is definitely a piece.

      • http://jeffala.com/ Jeff

This is exactly what I was going to ask. I watched a NYTimes (Google NYT transitioning) video a few weeks ago on ladies “transitioning” to natural hair and ever since, I’ve been in love with the look. So much better looking.

      • moppet

Mmm….that may just be a curly weave. I don’t know for sure, of course. Regardless, it looks good on her.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Everything is great except for the boring shoes. Please no more beige pumps ever again anywhere.

    • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

“Can you go out in tight leather pants and a white t-shirt and look hot as shit? Do you know many people who can? Exactly.”

This kind of reasoning is fallacious.  When did an ‘almost-werq’ require a put down of your readers?

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Oh for Christ’s sake. It takes some real work to get offended by that. We hope you didn’t strain anything.

THE POINT WAS, only a very tiny percentage of people overall can work a look like this. So, yes; we “put down” our readers, along with about 95 percent of the rest of humanity. Lighten the hell up and unclench.

        • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

Don’t recall ever being offended, I’ll try to remember to put some kind of smiley face.  I was just pointing out the reasoning behind the ‘almost-werq’, the reasoning that IIRC has never been used to justify other ‘WERQ’ or ‘almost-werq’ posts, that. was. all.  No anger, I assure you.

Though the irony of your reply is not lost on me.  ;]

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

” Don’t recall ever being offended”

Oh, then by all means, let us help you out there:

“When did an ‘almost-werq’ require a put down of your readers?”

            Girl. Please.

            • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

I feel like I’m in The Twilight Zone here …

    • MissAnnieRN

Damn. She looks good. I like this because it’s the celebrity version of my go to look: jeans, fitted t-shirt + statement necklace. I love simple looks on everyone. To me much more head turning than some daring print or risk taking fashion choice.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

She looks comfortable in those leather pants.  Like genuinely comfortable.  And it’s mid summer mind you.  And her fresh face and happy smile – that wins it for me.

    • ballerinawithagun

      Fabulously happy!

    • unbornfawn

She looks wonderful and I love her hair.

    • mhleta

      Killah. Give her the WERQs.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HNGRR454HLHWUKQGAHA2KJJ7NY TeresaM

Leather pants in July? That’s just gross.

    • MilaXX

I think she’s cute, but I wish she was wearing a fiercer shoe.

    • Flora O

She looks adorbs, but I continue to be befuddled by darker-skinned women wearing beige shoes. The idea is to match the skin tone and elongate the leg, no? Why not go with a nice cinnamon or chocolate pump?

    • MzzPants

I think the jewelry is enough, with the big hair and all.  I would have added a killer shoe to knock this out of the park.

    • kingderella

      LOVE the hair and make-up.
the t-shirts just a t-shirt and the pants are… shall we say, a little tight.

    • TomBord

Now that right there is a beautiful bod pared  w/ a beautiful spirit. beyond lovely.

    • Snarky_Amber

Her hair is so fucking fabulous I can’t even stand it.

    • EEKstl

She looks fabulous.  That necklace is pretty cool.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=2066192 Melissa Mellon

      Love it! It WERQs.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

She’s a werq to me–I love how simple this look is!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_PCARAOJSL553GBBPQSLRYD5REE L.

She’s rocking the outfit and hair.  Could do w/out the cadaver makeup.  sorry….

    • marilyn

      She looks great!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1129137319 Paula Pertile

It must not be 110 where she is, like it is everywhere else. Blah shoes. But yeah, OK, she looks good.

      • charlotte

         It’s actually 75-ish over here.

        • sashaychante

           SHUT UP…it was 100 degrees at 7:00 a.m. here in Phoenix.  W-I-L-T-I-N-G….

    • http://twitter.com/iraki86 IraKi

Simplicity, when done correctly, deserves high praise no matter what!

    • granddelusion

I hate the shoes, but still think she looks great. She also looks like shes having fun, which is probably a big part of why she looks great.

    • Anathema_Device

She went for the strong eye, but I would have done a more neutral eye (so they wouldn’t look like hollow sockets) and then a bright lip.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

I don’t love the necklace but it’s still a WERQ in my book.

    • bitterk

Agreed, killer bod but the shoes or the necklace have to go

    • Rand Ortega

She’s so FAB! Who else can make a stupid T-Shirt & far too hot for the climate leather jeans look so couture? She’ll never be a style icon like The Swinton, but w/ that rockin’ bod & always right hair/makeup, she makes everything she puts on gorgeous!

    • guest2visits

I also think this is a fresh and pretty look; though it’s really hard to think of skin tight leather as fresh or even young looking –
but she does wear this easily. And hey, it’s Berlin. Isn’t leather a normal part of everyday wardrobe?

    • adnama79

      Love the hair, too.

    • bellafigura1

Nope, I totally feel you on this.  It’s not a red carpet look, but it’s a basic, go-to for so many women and she’s completely schooling us all in how to do it.  Love white t-shirt fashion, meself!  I think her necklace is meh, and I hate the hair, but I quibble.

    • TieDye64

Looking good and she knows it, as she should.

    • Patricia Gillett

Her confidence is her best accessory. We could all learn from her. Rock on, diva.

    • Matt Bailer

That third picture looks like she’s saying “YES!  I GOT THESE PANTS ON!”
