Katy Perry (x2)

Posted on July 31, 2012

Miss Katy tries out two very different looks during the Brazilian leg of her movie poledancing tour and yet they’re both perfectly Katy.

First up: Kandy Kartoon Katy:

Katy Perry attends photocall for her movie “Katie Perry: Part of Me” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in a Versus dress paired with Brian Atwood pumps.

Versus Fall 2012 Collection/Model: Kati Nescher

Brian Atwood ‘Power Studs’ Pump

It’s a really cute dress and it’s perfect for her. It’s totally boobalicious in a way that would normally have us saying “Girl, that’s a bit much” but it’s kind of hard to tell Katy Perry that anything she’s doing is “a bit much.” It would be like commenting on her breathing abilities.

The shoes actually work here. We’ve been railing against the platform pump for a good while now, but if there’s one celebrity who should get a pass on the cartoonish Minnie Mouse shoes, it’s Katy Perry.

Later she rolled out another iteration of her “Diva Katy” persona:

Katy Perry attends the Brazilian premiere of her movie ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me’ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in a Dolce&Gabbana dress.

And again, she’s making something work that only she could ever really make work. That’s a fabulous dress, but we think it’s extremely tough to pull off and you’d constantly run the risk of tipping over into Tacky Land. But since Katy’s pretty much the Mayor of Tackyland (in a good way), then this works just fine. It is, however, too tight on her, giving her uni-boob and making her look like she can’t move her shoulders. Still; it’s totally her. Love the hair and makeup.

    The second look is stunning.

She still needs to go away.

    • Thank you. Katie needs to go. I am amazed she is still out there stumping for that film. It was at US theaters for about 30 seconds.

  • Meh, Katy as Dita von Teese is not really working for me.

    • pookiesmom

I was totally thinking the 2nd look is very Dita von Perry

      • pookiesmom

That said, I kinda dig it

        • TheOriginalLulu

Me too. I love it when she glams up like that. It totally works.

    • AudreysMom

I actually mis-read the original caption, thinking it said that Katy was rolling out her Dita Katy persona (not Diva). But as I looked at the pictures, realized that true Dita would be a) cooler, b) bolder and c) more daring.

  • Not loving that yellow number. For me the Ladderboobs effect is pretty vulgar. The silver lace dress? She is Ki Ling It in that.

    • ballerinawithagun

      Ladderboobs or Uniboobs, tough choice…

      • Not good, either way.

      • Susan Collier

I’m thinking two honeydew melons in a plastic shopping bag that is ripping.

    • Kayceed

Yes, that yellow number is a bit Frederick’s of Hollywood’s idea of a sexy, kittenish summer frock. Perfect for picnicking, perhaps? Ugh. The silver is luminous.

      • Katy can surely serve up the old Hollywood glam thing when she puts her mind to it.

        • It’s very Victoria’s Secret Catalog. But she’s also in Brazil, and it works with a Brazilian aesthetic.

          • True. Quite true.

          • kimmeister

Brazilians are much more about the booty then they are about the boobies.

          • I agree, but girl is working what she has.

    • AudreysMom

for a kartoon look I was thinking she was chaneling some Jessica Rabbit with the LadderBoobs effect. But then, what did Jessica Rabbit ever do to deserve a comparison with Katy Perry?

    • Violina23

Agree 110%. Vulgar is exactly the world I was looking for. Maybe it’s me being a straight female, but I feel like it’s SUPPOSED to be sexy, but it’s just..ick.

      Love the second look though!

    • I think the yellow dress is gorgeous on the flat-chested model. On Katie it’s just too tacky.

      •  Exactly.  Assets should be fairly gently accentuated, whatever they are.

  • God love her!  If I was a pop princess/starlet I would TOTALLY be rockin’ this same kind of “insane/larger-than-life/glamazon” vibe.

  • Judy_J

The silver lace dress is stunning.  Love the belt.

  • Lilithcat

No woman with any semblance of a bosom should ever wear that yellow dress.

  • BazoDee

I love the first. I want to love the second -but I can’t help but feel something is a bit off about it and it isn’t as flattering as it could be. Perhaps it is that the girls look in deed of support, or the round neck -maybe the overall fit. Hmmm -pondering.

  • JackieOBlue

Normally someone like KP would irritate the hell out of me, but for some reason she doesn’t.  Maybe because it appears that she is in on the joke.

    • NCDFan

I think it’s because she’s making the joke! She doesn’t take herself too seriously.

  • understateddiva

Those little puffy shoulders on the silver dress are just sad.  They needed to go big or go home.

    • Exactly!  My eyes hurt looking at those pseudo retro sleeves.  They’re not full-on Dynasty, but too much to pass off as a shoulder pad redux.  Too bad, because it’s a nice dress otherwise.

      • TonyGo

I’m with you guys.  Methinks the silver dress is a little aging on her.  I know she and her stylist probably weren’t aware that she would be posing with giant lollipops, but the juxtaposition of Candyland and Hollywood Glamour only serves to make her look more matronly..

  • No more blue hair. Hallelujah.

    • Spicytomato1

My first thought, too. Thank goodness.

  • RzYoung

I really like the yellow dress, I’m just so relieved the silly hair colour has gone. Her poor follicles

  • I disagree that look 2 only she could work. I looked at it and immediate went, “Dita von Tease”. She looks fabulous in both. I’m thanking the baby Jesus that she got rid of the purple hair. Now, if we could just get Kelly Osborne to do it, I’d be happy.

    • MilaXX

I liked Katy’s shade of purple a million times more than Kelly’s lavender.

  • StellaZafella

Look 1: If she turns around, you’ll see the wind-up key

Look 2: Katie Von Tease…almost but not quite. Miss Dita VT always looks like a real woman…all of her.

  • Spicytomato1

She’s on my irrational hate list but she doesn’t bug me too much here. Maybe because her hair color is normal. And maybe it’s me but  she seems to be channeling TGWTDT-era Rooney Mara with her second look (not the dress but the hair and makeup).

  • MilaXX

Dress 1: I don’t like this on her. I think this is for the tiny boob sisters. On her it looks vulgar. Yes, I realize it”s hard to say something is too vulgar for the gal who has a pinwheel bra, but  I’m just not feeling this on her. I like the shoe with the dress, but to me this is not her dress.

Dress 2: I like this. Sure it’s over the top, but it suits her. Together with the back drop she looks like an over dressed carnival float. Whoever did her face did a really nice job.

    • Snailstsichr

Yes to both your points but especially the first. I liked the yellow dress much more on the model. It didn’t scream tacky when you weren’t forced to look at her cleavage and belly button.

  • TheOriginalLulu

Love both looks for her, but yeah that second one is definitely too tight. Luckily she’s in Brazil, where the mentality is if a girl can breathe, her clothes are too loose.

  • kimmeister

What exactly is that over her left ear in the silver dress?

  • Her makeup in the silver dress is too much. She needs to tone it down and try a more natural look.

  • formerlyAnon

You guys might not say the yellow dress is Too Much, but I will. I mean, it works for her as well as it’d work for anyone with an ample chest & it is Rio, but still. Over the tacky line in a small town stripper way.

That said, she IS one with the shoes and I think she’s owning the second look. My only quibble is the hair looks just a teensy tinsy tad less-than – maybe a bit of a roll at the temple, to show the art & craft that goes into the look? Though perhaps I’d withdraw that quibble if I could see the back.

  • PinkLemon

that silver lace is photographing pretty cheaply…….otherwise i’d love it

  • I can see Marion Cotillard in the 2nd look, but I really love the thigh boots on the model in the first!

  • I *LOVE* that she went back to the dark bob. It’s probably the most flattering on her.

  • julnyes

I disagree – that first dress is tacky in a bad way. Some outfits are just made for the A-cup or less ladies of the world and this is one of them.

  • BeeBeauNYC

She has a style and she runs with. It really works for her. And damn she has such a great figure. Does she only eat grilled chicken breast and carrot sticks?

  • Allison Woods

  • patticake1601

I’m going to go against the crowd, I love Katy Perry. She doesn’t re-invent herself with gimmicks (paging GaGa!), isn’t trying to pass herself off as a serious singer either because she knows she isn’t one. She is just having fun with her life and has a fabulous body to wear whatever she likes.  I love her boobs. There I said it. I’m a straight boring housewife who loves looking at her funbags!

  • jblaked

Love her music and attitude.  Hate her sense of style and horrible haircolors.

  • mardia

Frankly, my boobs hurt just LOOKING at that first dress. Her boobs being squished like that can’t be comfortable.

  • guest2visits

The second dress looks more like a costume, with it’s heavy make-up and shiny-ness,- and the candyland background, of course.
The first dress with it’s outrageous cutouts and color, and tall spikey red shoes, should be a costume too; but it looks more like
a ‘real’ dress for her.   Geez, is she eternally on tour or what. Where hasn’t she been.

  • nannypoo

Wait!! What is that on her head? It doesn’t seem to be blue. Great improvement.

  • Jill Roberts

She looks great in both, though the peek-a-boob is not my favorite.  I always hate Dolce & Gabbana on the runway, but their clothes work beautifully on the RC, in photos, and on TV.

I actually think she looks great in both, and that first look is so very her. I seem to enjoy her much more when I only have to see her in photos and not hear her at all.

  • Kandy Kartoon Katie with Kutout K-nockers= K-not Klassy

  • LesYeuxHiboux

Katy! Your dress is so tight your breasts are literally bursting out of it! I kid, because I love. I’m glad our girl is getting some of her mojo back.

  • Ksagun13

The second look makes me think she’s trying to be Dita Von Teese.  Not sure if she’s succeeding.

  • quiltrx

Love those bad-bitch pumps!  And I don’t think Katy has the shoulders to pull off that second dress.

  • Such a lovely woman.  J’adore both looks – bitch pumps and all!  So all hail Queen Katy – lookin’ better than she ever has!  Maybe she and the ex-Mrs. Cruise could compare notes.

  • Love the first look, I’m digging those Brian Atwood pumps. The yellow dress is really cute, despite its boob-baring proclivities. Black hair is the best color for her.

  • bellafigura1

There’s almost a little too much of an element of “dress-up” with her, though. First look is her look (although I know why the caged boobs sing!), for sure, but her bounce to a whole other persona, eh, not so much on board with look #2 for her — makes her look untouchable, which she is not.

  • Dagney

    In X 2

  • Trisha26

I’m so over her – just everything from her identical-sounding pop songs, her “poor me” whining after being dumped by a known-womanizer, and her “I dress like a street-walker but I love Jesus” mantra – these looks are: yellow dress – horrendously tacky, and gown – Dita Von Teese wannabe. She needs a nice long vacay away from the public.
