Joseph Gordon-Levitt for GQ Magazine

Posted on July 18, 2012

Hey, remember yesterday when we said that the suit JGL wore to The Dark Knight Rises premiere didn’t fit him all that well and some of the JGL fans told us to shut our fat faces? Good times. Although we may be misremembering the “fat faces” part. Anyway, we bring this up because GQ knows how to fit a man and they’ve done a bangup job of it once again.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt covers the August 2012 issue of GQ magazine photographed by Nathaniel Goldberg.

Suit, $3,990 by Ermenegildo Zegna. Shirt, $295 by Burberry London. Tie, $115 by J.Lindeberg. Shoes, $1,390 by Tom Ford. Pocket square by Paul Stuart.

Suit, $1,145 by Hugo. Shirt, $285 by Bespoken. Tie, $130 by Band of Outsiders. Pocket square by Paul Stuart. Belt by J.Crew.

Suit, $569 by Suitsupply. Shirt, $325 by Ralph Lauren Black Label. Tie, $125 by John Varvatos. Shoes, $645 by Church’s.

The pics are guyditorial-standard in a lot of ways, but he looks fantastic. No man looks bad in a well-fitted suit but only the lucky few can look like they were born to wear one.

OK, as someone who finds him cute but usually doesn’t get all hot and bothered over JGL…

…I am officially hot and bothered now.  WOW.

    • jennyv

      I concur!

    • ConnieBV

I usually DO get all hot and bothered over JGL, and this is fuel for the fire.

      • lovelyivy

You and me both. I have a huge ladyboner for this man.

    • mshesterp

I finally got his hotness after Inception (I think)–and he reminds me a little of a cleaned up Heath Ledger. I think he’s just adorable, and these photos do nothing to change that fact.  Work that suit, cutie!

      • Bridget Smith

They both have that ability to work a furrowed brow and an unabashed grin.

      • Janey

The cutest and most heartbreaking thing about that sentence was that JGL was actually in a movie with Heath Ledger, ’10 Things I Hate about you’. May you rest in peace Heath Ledger

    • Kristin McNamara

      well it’s about damn time!

    • Gayer Than Thou

He’s finally grown up enough so that I don’t feel all pervy thinking the kid from 3rd Rock is kinda hot.  He’s quite the handsome young man, isn’t he?

      • YayaGurl

I know.  I just want to teach him all sorts of naughty tricks.

    • Jessica | Surely Sonsy

    • Alloy Jane

Whereas I just want to pinch his cheeks and say, “Aww, look at you all grown up now!  You’re just a handsome little man aren’t you!” like he was a precocious five-year-old, lol.

  • A_Little_Tacky

Can we say too tight? How can they make that skinny little man have sausage legs. That is a talent.

    • guest2visits

He’s looking very good…. too tight may be a good thing.

  • Claire Haley

He is legitimately doing a BOOTY TOOCH in the third picture. It is making me laugh so hard.

    • joe_tey83

       That’s exactly what I’m thinking!!! And he’s wearing a in-pain-but-still-high-fashion expression.

Tyra would be so very proud.

    • Pennymac

Ahahahaha! I just snort laughed! And its true!

    • DinnerIsServed1972

      OH. SHIT. I just cackled.

  • NurseEllen

That cover shot is VERY tasty.

    • formerlyAnon

Yes. I was thinking as I looked at it: I don’t even care if this photo shops his real proportions all out of whack (not saying it does, I don’t know), the results are just so WONDERFUL.

  • Heron

    Love. Him. In. A. 3-Piece.

    rock that tack, boy-o.

  • Ben

Those suits combo with the right shirt, tie, shoes are as perfect as ever.

  • sockandaphone

    yes. to all of this.

  • kingderella

    love the guy! nice editorial.

  • Cindi Williams

I love the last pic. It gives me “I’m tellin’ y’all it’s a sabotage” vibe. Or Beck’s Devil’s Haircut.

  • marlie

He’s seriously ADORABLE. I love the cover shot, and the one with him running, and… well, ALL of them!

Also, interesting to note that he’s wearing – and rocking – a $600 suit in the last picture. It looks just as good on him as the $4000 Zegna suit. $600 is still a lot of $$, but not outside the range of normal for a good men’s suit. What I’m trying to say is that it’s nice to show that one could dress really well on an fairly “normal” budget.

(“Normal” being entirely subjective, and dependent upon one’s individual circumstances, of course.)

    • mshesterp

I’m so low-rent that I didn’t even know who Zegna was until I dated a man who was making a big deal about owning zegna ties.  So I appreciate the fact he can turn out both a designer suit and a suit for (some of) the regular folks.

    • Frank_821

I whole heartedly agree. Ironic that he looks best in the cheapest ensemble. Granted I realize that $4000 may be a bespoke suit made from a very high quality piece of wool and the SuitSupply one could be available off the rack

  • Merneith

He has Advanced Suit-Wearing Power. He’s qualified to work on Mad Men.

  • MK03

Mmm. Yes, I’ll take that to go, please.

  • MilaXX

    I just adore him!

  • ballerinawithagun

    He grew up well.

    • dress_up_doll

Oh, man, didn’t he? Whodda thunk l’il Tommy would grow into such a hot, fine piece o’ man.

    • AudreysMom

In rewatching some TRFTS clips recently, then watching him in 50/50 and 500 Days… I’d say Tommy turned out just about right. His casting was perfect because even as a teenager, JGL could convey this person who was older, smarter and more mature than the adults around him (which of course was true to his alien self). It’s been fun to watch this guy develop on screen and make such smart choices in his roles and projects. He is always makes his characters interesting.

And yes, the man can wear a suit!

  • Kiltdntiltd

He looks great, but 3 grayish suits, Really, GQ? There aren’t any other colors?

  • Rand Ortega

That is 1 little brother that can wear a vest like nobodies bidness!
Officially understanding all of the fuss!

  • TropiCarla

He gets the “CutiePie Of The Week” award. :-)

  • Pants_are_a_must

GQ, the perfect place to cosplay as Arthur from Inception.

He’s not a favorite anymore, but this is a good guyditorial.

  • mjude

he really is adorable more than i ever thought to notice

  • Dixie Murphy Ross

    I just girlsplooged.

    • call_me_schmeg

‘girlsplooged’ officially entered into the lexicon…

    • Marie Ee

      oh my LORD i’m crying

  • Larkin21

I could hardly force my eyes past the cover to look at all the other pictures. Hot.

  • ChaCha_70

    Wowee, wowee, wowee

  • sagecreek

That’s much better, and I’m not even much of a JGL fan.

  • Introspective

Cute but a smidge too tight especially with suit #2. Overall hes easy on the eyes though!

  • BazoDee

Turns out I’m a JGL fan-girl. Who knew.

  • AlexisPayne

Mmmmm, love a man in a well tailored suit.

  • Ashley

    that last picture… *fans self*

    • ccinnc

       Yes, perfection.

  • Jessica Pippin

Mmm. The man can wear a suit. Also never noticed until now how much he resembles Heath Ledger.  “10 Things I Hate About You” anyone? Good times.

    • Anne Lucchesi

I’m glad I’m not the only one that sees that. It’s something about the eyes.

  • SapphoPoet

I dunno. I think all the suits look a little tight. He wears them well, though.

  • mrspotts66

    hubba hubba.

oh…and the suits look nice, too!

  • formerlyAnon

I have vaguely positive feelings about him but no lust-connection and no huge admiration or anything.

And yet, were he to show up for dinner attired thusly, I’d seriously consider marrying him. If not myself, then marrying him off to any single, age-appropriate friend or relative who’d sign on. If we were playing M-F-K it’d be M, hands down.

A nicely fitting suit bestows rare powers to the man who wears it – and the powers are strengthened because I see it in real life so rarely.

  • SpcilK

MEOW! “Every girls crazy bout a sharp dressed man.” (Yes, ZZ Top I concur.)

  • Kristin McNamara

Not related to the clothes at all, but I thought you and the PUFs would enjoy this…. when I read the opening line of this, TLo, I read: “Remember yesterday when we said what that slut JGL wore to The Dark Knight Rises premiere didn’t fit him all that well…?” hahaha soooo I reread it (not because that sentence was out of your wheel-house to have said–hardly, actually–but because I never thought you had voiced any strong feelings on JGL’s alleged “sluttiness” before). I was disappointed the second time through. Boooooring!

  • Joyce VG

He’s really really really really really really adorable.

  • C. Sprynczynatyk

Can we get this man a Mad Men cameo? Perhaps as Roger Sterling’s ward or nephew?

  • emily

    le sigh. he’s swoon worthy

  • Pamela

He looks adorbs but I daresay these suits look like they fit him about the same as the ones you complained about in the premiere post.  Anyway, the kid will only get better-looking as he ages.    In my next life maybe…

  • Zippypie

He looks delish.  Especially in that cover shot.  Yumster!

  • cmb92191

love that first pic.  This sounds terrible but he reminds me of my own son in build but my husbands hair.   He is rocking those suits

  • pookiesmom

    Oh, YUM.

  • CassieLee22

    JGL how i LOVE thee

  • Sunshine16

    Yum!  Thanks boys!

  • ChelseaNH

Frieda Pinto’s outfit made me cranky, and now I feel happy again.  Behold the power of fashion.

  • Jessica | Surely Sonsy

yes yes yes. this is making me a tad woozy, too – and normally i don’t are much for the JGL.

ah, the power of a great suit.

  • jilly_d

You took the words out of my mouth! Except for one: DAAAAAMN!

  • Alison Sigman

Love the booty pop in the 3rd picture!

    • Grace

Right? I stopped and went “Oooooh…”

  • janetjb

    Well done JGL.

I’d like to see him wear a color other than grey.

  • alyce1213

He’s got that kind of adorable face that will age well and continue to develop character, like Robert Downey, Jr.

  • skadi1

That cover shot is too gorgeous. I usually feel weird ogling him because I saw him on Third Rock first, but I give up. Ogling is top of the menu.

  • jw_ny

Sexy in a suit.  wtg JGL and GQ!

  • LinXGUA

  • quiltrx

He’s SO adorable…AND I totally want to rob that particular cradle.  Especially in that cover pic.

I don’t know whether to put him in my pocket or rip his clothes off!

  • Fucking A.

    Yes that last picture. Life.

  • lesmaha

Wow. That is a gorgeous set of pics.

  • Sau-Chih Feng

    The plaid
Ermenegildo Zegna suit is my favorite, not that he doesn’t look delicious in every shot. The cover photo vest is also amazing on him. He was always born to wear suits, and praise Christopher Nolan for dressing him in 3 piece suits throughout Inception.

  • PRFan

With a little more age, the next James Bond. (I’m not ready for Daniel Craig to retire yet.)

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Ab Fab, and he can act, too!

  • ChaquitaPhilly

Ab Fab, and he can act, too!

  • tereliz

Andrew Garfield, take some effing notes.

  • tereliz

Andrew Garfield, take some effing notes.

  • Kerry McCombs

Now I totally want to go watch 10 Things I Hate About You Again. He was so adorably geeky in that! I can’t wait for Looper!

  • Paige Boerman

    JGL was BORN for suits.

  • TieDye64

    Damn, he’s looking fiiiiiiiiine!

  • librarygrrl64

Sweet baby Jesus, he’s adorable. I feel a cougar moment coming on…..

  • Rojan Alex Morgan

can someone please tell me where i can get the vest & pants combo levitt is wearing in the first photo (the magazine)
