Jeremy Renner for Esquire Magazine

Posted on July 16, 2012

And now, a Boy Break, brought to you by Esquire magazine…

Jeremy Renner covers the August 2012 issue of Esquire magazine photographed by Nigel Parry.

The charms of Jeremy Renner have been fiercely debated here in the halls of T Lo Manor, with one side of the T Lo equation coming down very much in favor of Jeremy Renner and one side of the T Lo equation standing very much opposed to Jeremy Renner. It’s just one big slumber party here. We’re going to play spin the bottle later.

Anyway, both sides of T Lo can agree that the charms of Jeremy Renner are not lost on a sizable portion of the Bitter Kittens population and thus, we offer this gift to you. We are also in agreement that these aren’t actually very good pictures of Jeremy Renner. But enjoy nonetheless, darlings.

P.S. Saw the trailer for his Bourne movie before Spider-Man. We’ll take our Jason Bourne classic-style, thank you very much. We’re probably skipping that one.

Wow, he looks awful in the cover photo.

    • emily

       like a different person.

    • Abigail Speltz

He’s just trying to show you he doesn’t have boogers.

      • Rain Jezek

That is an important factor when determining a male star’s attractiveness.

  • Dejah Thoris

Where’s a fainting couch and a personal massager when you need one? Damn that boy makes me swwwwwwoooooooooon.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

I’m with you. His charms a not lost on me.

  • Maria Rosenfire

With the caveat that I know nothing about him or his acting, I shall state that I like his face. I don’t necessarily find it attractive, but I like it.

These pictures are pretty lame, though.

    • Kiltdntiltd

I am sitting right beside on this one, Maria!

      • makeityourself

Me too. The makeup is awful — too much bronzer or something. And, I’ve never said this before, but he needed better photoshopping on his complexion or better lighting for these shots to really work. I like Jeremy, but this editorial didn’t do him justice.

        • Kiltdntiltd

To be brutally honest, he is a man who is middling good looking, who’s force of personality, and talent are what drive him in his career. And I don’t mean that in any way to demean him.  Attempting to glam him up is silly, and a waste of his true value.  It does my heart good that a man who is really just a “regular joe” has found his way to the star field. And its a pleasure to us other “regular joes” to see someone like us up there.

        • Marquita P. Evans

He’s not particularly photogenic in posed shots, though. I think he always looks better in

  • Hetha Innis

You’re not going to tell us who feels which way about him? Come on! I’ll guess that Lo is thumbs up and T says no way.

    • Cat_In_A_Hat

I seem to recall from a previous post that it was Lo with the crush. And I am right there with him!

  • NicholasGirling

That little grin…gets me every time.

  • Pants_are_a_must

Photoshoot is screaming “I AM JASON BOURNE, EVERYBODY! ME! NOT DAMON, ME!”

But honey, Damon had a better team around him to make sure he looked good. Hell, he STILL looks good in photoshoots, even if he doesn’t quite in real life anymore.

    Observe him and learn, Hawkeye.

    • ChelseaNH

Except he’s not playing Jason Bourne; he’s another assassin from the same program.  (There was never only one, as the ads say.)  I don’t see a lot of movies in the theater, but it’s on the prospective list.

      • Laurie Cubbison

I’m old. To me, Richard Chamberlain is Jason Bourne, and Matt Damon was just an upstart. Jeremy Renner, though, I just find him very attractive.

  • Catiline

I thought he was massively unattractive until I saw him in an actual film.  I still can’t say he’s an object of particular swooning for me, but I find him to be a lot more soulful onscreen than he comes across in still pictures.

Having said all that, I actually think this is one of the more appealing still photo sets I’ve seen.

    • Sobaika

He is much better onscreen. He has really great presence.

      • Kathy Marlow

Agreed.  For the record, pics 2 and 4 make the shoot for me

      • Catiline

He so does.  He totally stole the movie in Mission Impossible 4, despite getting some competition from Simon Pegg in that department.

  • Shelly Shore

I know he can be super awkward looking, but IDGAF, I love him. He’s so endearing in interviews (and such a sweetheart in person, I met him once and nearly swooned) and I can’t help but coo over him. He’s not particularly photogenic in posed shots, though. I think he always looks better in candids.

That being said, bbface can wear the HELL out of a suit. Yum.

  • marlie

The second picture – where he’s smiling – just made me say “oh, HI!” out loud.

  • Carolyn Blake

    Isn’t he like 5’5″? Pass.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Fine by me!  I’m 5’2″, and he’s just right!  :)

    • Sobaika

I’ll take talented men at any size.

    • AnonMom

      He’s 5’10” and delicious.  :)

    • marlie

I’m a tall girl – 5’9″, plus I LIVE in heels, but I’ll take him anyway.

Actually, I tower over my real-live BF when I wear heels, but he thinks it’s hot, so I’ll keep him. 😉 Which is to say… height isn’t everything.

  • Ana R.

Does he look like Joffrey Barathean or is that just me?

    • donkeygospel6

       YES! Brilliant!

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Despite the not-so-great pictures (excluding the pic with the sly grin), he gave a really interesting interview.  He flips houses with a partner and is doing incredibly well, even with the down economy.  His cat was catnapped by a crazy old man after he made the Dahmer movie.  He used to spend time doing karaoke at a local bar.  He sounds like a really well grounded, normal guy.  And, yum.

  • MilaXX

Oh say it ain’t so! I was actually looking forward to seeing Renner’s turn with the Bourne franchise. Pics are okay.

  • formerlyAnon

Not gonna stand in line to gaze upon him, but definitely on the plus side of the ledger.

    • Pennymac

Ditto. And I kind of like these pics. Oh well, I can’t always agree with my fashionable uncles.

  • Feathers McGraw

i would like to point out that this is obviously Kurt from Glee on the cover, about 30 years in the future.

    • MajorBedhead

I saw this magazine in passing at the market just now, but not being of the male persuasion, didn’t do more than glance at the cover. I really thought it was a very bad photo of Chris Colfer. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

  • gsk241

I’m solidly in the pro-Renner camp, but I agree that the cover shot isn’t very flattering.  There’s nothing out of the ordinary here, but he looks damn fine!

  • SapphoPoet

What happened to Matt Damon as Bourne?

    • NicholasGirling

He wouldn’t do another film without Paul Greengrass (the director) and Grenngrass didn’t want to do it.

      • SapphoPoet

        Ah. Ok, thanks.

    • AnaRoW

He’s not actually playing Bourne but another character in the Bourne universe.

      • SapphoPoet

        Good to know. Thanks much.

  • kimmeister

He doesn’t do a thing for me, but that’s a nice blue suit.

  • another_laura

I’m kind of over him, I’m afraid, because I liked his work in The Hurt Locker and was not in swoon mode.  Now I haven’t seen him in anything for years and the heart, it doesn’t grow fonder in this particular case.

    • AnonMom

He’s been in 7 or 8 movies since The Hurt Locker (he was nominated for an Academy Award for The Town.)

      • another_laura

        I’m sure you’re right but I haven’t see him because I haven’t seen them.

        • AnonMom

You should see The Town…it’s really fabulous (even Blake Lively is decent.)

  • Amy Ellinger

Oh lords, thank you. thank you thank you thank you.

I have raging strep throat and this made my fever worse, but its worth it. Cover photo he looks like “c’mon, just take it off, lemme see…”

  • emily

They look like catalog model photos. I’ll take him with a tee shirt and ropes please, not some wrong-shade-of-blue-for-him suit thank you very much.

  • donkeygospel6

I just don’t get it. He’s not cute AT ALL, he’s an overrated actor, he’s one of those closet cases who freaks out at any question of his sexuality, and he seems like a giant douchebag.

  • Kerry McCombs

Jeremy Renner has been growing on me with all the Avengers media because this guy is one GOOFY dude! Seriously, he’s a total out there goofball who can’t do any press event straight (no pun intended). He’s playful and silly and a little awkward.

Big, serious, movie stars that are secretly total goofs is extremely endearing to me.

    • Beardslee

LOVE the goofballs!  I’m with you.

    Enf. I’ll pass.

  • Spicytomato1

I’m squarely in the opposition camp and these shots do nothing to dispel that, especially the last one. I think the cover’s the best shot because it hints at the possibility of charm.

  • Rachel

They covered up his arms?  Those are his best feature!

  • EEKstl

Pro-Rennerite that I am, I’m lukewarm about these pics.  But he is still damn fine.

  • MinasAunt

Don’t get it, don’t get it, don’t get it!  I have a friend who argues continuously that he is a tiny Daniel Craig–I don’t see it.  I would walk on lava for Mr. Craig but Mr, Renner does nothing for me.

    • skadi1

they’re almost the same height, actually (craig is 5’10”, renner is 5’9″), and only about 3 years different in age. i am a firm believe in daniel craig’s charms, but think renner looks better for his age than craig does.

  • TSkot

Used to see him all the time at the gym – even better in person.

    • skadi1

you must be a guy. if i saw him at the gym, they’d have to peel me off of him, and i wouldn’t be allowed back. ever.

  • Dhammadina

I think he’s a great actor –fantastic in The Hurt Locker. The photos have a Sean Penn vibe, looked at quickly.

  • marlie

See, what gets me about Jeremy (we’re on a first name basis now) is that he might not be the handsomest guy out there, but he just exudes personality and charisma. Plus, he doesn’t seem too full of himself, which makes him all the more appealing to me.  I can’t stand the male (and female) stars who think they’re God’s gift to man- and woman-kind.

  • redgauntlet

He has a face like a clenched fist. What is he actually famous for?

    • Catiline

      I dunno, two Oscar nominations?

      • redgauntlet

That’s no recommendation. Cuba Gooding Jr actually won one.

        • Catiline

You wanted to know what he was famous for, so.

  • ccm800

    absolute zero appeal. Hobbit

  • Toby Wollin

Remember the movie with Daniel Craig, Jamie Bell and Liev Schreiber, “Defiance”? Liev Schreiber looked like the ‘must have been adopted’ brother – whereas Craig and Bell actually looked as if they could have been brothers (it was the ears…). Schreiber’s part should have been played by Renner – shoot – he and Craig could have been brothers – the ears…the cold almost Eastern European killer face with the light eyes. If anyone wants to do a movie where Craig has a brother – Renner is the ‘go to ‘ guy.

  • guest2visits

I actually like him in the suit; the leather jacket with turtle neck is putz.

  • quiltrx

SO channeling Steve McQueen in that last picture.  I can take or leave JR, but I do love that pic.

  • frankystein123

  • Lauren Cooper

I’ll take Renner any day over Channing Tatum.

  • Brenna McClellan

This man will be the death of me I swear
