Downton Abbey Ladies for Love Magazine

Posted on July 20, 2012

Darlings, if you’re a fan of the show, season 3 of Downton Abbey feels like a distressingly long way away (some time early next year for U.S. kittens). But while we were scrolling through the list of topics for today (looking for something easy because those Project Runway posts really take it out of you), we stumbled across the Crawley girls, looking very un-Crawley for Love magazine.

      Wow! Very striking.

    • PaulaBerman

Whoa, Laura Carmichael going very much against type there! I love how all three of them were transformed. Very cool.

      • Sobaika

She looks fabulous! Good for her, can’t be fun playing the middle sister.

    • GorgeousThings

Wow – I might (*might*) recognize Michelle Dockery,  but I never would have recognized Ladies Edith and Sybill. Gorgeous!

    • onyxkatze

Lady Edith wins this one, though the sex appeal of Lady Sybil is not to be ignored.

    • lbl

Beautiful! Wish more magazines would take chances with artistic shoots like these.

/someone who’s sick of glamour shoots

    • Julia

Michelle Dockery looks very like Death’s granddaughter in that first picture.

(No, really: Susan Sto Helit: look it up)

      • Ain’t Baroque

Ha! She played Susan Sto Helit in the film adaptation of Hogfather.

        • Margaret Carlson Nikoleit

There’s a film adaptation? Tell us where to find it!

Never expected to find obscure Discworld love on TLo, but since they and their bitter kittens love everything fabulous, I guess why not?

          • mskgb

            It’s on Netflix streaming.

        • Sara L.

Is that good? I love Terry Pratchett like crazy, but I have avoided all the screen adaptations, since I don’t want to lose my internal movie stars, know what I mean? But if it is good, I might have to see it.

          • Marie Ee

I can’t say I watched the entire thing but the guy playing Mr Teatime is pretty much FANTASTIC.

          • foodycatAlicia

It’s not bad – the screen adaptation of Going Postal is better.

      • ViolaZuppa

DANG!  That’s it!  I’ve been watching Downton Abbey wondering where I’ve seen her before.  She WAS Susan in Sky TV’s “Hogfather”.  Thanks!

        • Ain’t Baroque

She rocked it pretty hard, too, if you ask me. :)

    • Cindi Williams

Lady Edith looks *so* high fashion. Her facial structure is stunning.

    • MilaXX

LOVE this for all it’s otherwordly weirdness. The youngest Crawley sis looks the best with the deep red lips.

    • Introspective

I dont watch DA but from your recaps Im thinking I should.

these shots are arresting. beautiful. I vote for this as our pretty for the day.

      • LambeeBaby

You really should try it. I watched the first 2 episodes then had to see the entire series…in about 2 weeks time (feeling very guilty about that) Even if you don’t get hooked, its worth watching for the stunning costumes and scenery.

    • SewingSiren

I’ve always liked Edith best, even when she’s being a bitch. Someone is finally letting her be as pretty as the simpleton and the spoiled brat.

      • PinkLemon

her’s reminds me of the Flowerbomb ads.

      • GillianHolroyd

There’s a painting by Parmigianino called Antea, it is HER.

        • SewingSiren

Wonderful. She should go to a costume party dressed like that painting. I’ve always thought that would be a good theme for a costume party , come as a work of art.

    • Ozski

Team Edith! Who knew she had such a spectacular rack?!

      • AthenaJ

She should have just flashed potential suitors – would have beat out Mary for a husband in no time!

    • Jason M. Galloway

I just passed out at my desk…*SWOON*

    • StellaZafella

Aubrey Beardsley meets Edward Gorey (sp?)…and it would still work on a runway today. I wish, in my day, I could have looked this beatific and scary at the same time…Sharon Needles, are you taking notes?

    • Pennymac

Edith! My goodness you’re beautiful when not playing the “Other Sister”  This is beautiful, TLo. Thank you for scoping out all of these amazing things so I don’t have to!

    • Myra C

For some reason, this reminds me of the movie Marie Antoinette, especially the first two.  It really captures the look of that movie.

Beautiful, stunning and just a little bit morbid.  Love it!

    • j_anson

Wow, Laura Carmichael. She’s not made for “conventional pretty” but damned if she can’t pull out “model” under the right circumstances.

    • marlie

      Beautiful shots!

Funny that HBC would look like any of them on an every-day basis. 😉

    • elirt

These are incredible! They actually took my breath away – gorgeous!

    • Judy_J

    • Judy_S

Luscious, despite the use of punching babies as eye-makeup artists. Didn’t know there was going to be a season 3.  Now I am carefully probing my mind and heart to see if I care.

    • Lilithcat

Oh, I say, veddy nice, indeed.

BTW, the June issue of Vogue Italia had a pretty fabulous spread with Jessica Brown Findlay looking all Liz Taylor-ish.

    • Kayceed

      Cool, ethereal decadence, and lush.

    • L Gauch

Lady Edith looks like one of those old paintings of sea nymphs– the ones where they’re gorgeous and they’re going to kill you brutally while continuing to look gorgeous. Amazing. Totally arresting.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

I got the same gothic fairy vibe.

    • padma sallah

Michelle Dockery – Bride of Frankenstein
      Laura Carmichel – Marie Antoinette
Jessica Brown – Findlay – Mrs. Lovett

This is what all the three looks remind me of. And yes, VERY fabulous too.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

this is so gorgeous.  but i am helplessly in love with joanne froggatt.

    • Nancy K.

They look fierce! Even Lord and Lady Grantham would approve. Grandma Violet might take offense. (They aren’t Crawleys!)

    • Mefein

      Findlay’s looking like a Pre-Raphaelite muse here.

    • guest2visits

Like beautiful little period illustrations, or cameos.

    • SpcilK

      Simply Subline!

    • nannypoo

Beautiful, but Lady Mary looks like Emily Deschanel in this picture.

    • AudreysMom

now this is layout that just screams for a ‘making of’ video. Love. it. Only I wish Joanna Frogatt was in the mix.

    • Lattis

Wow. These are gorgeous. Especially the photo of Lady Edith.

    • Alloy Jane

Those photos are amazing.  And yes, Season 3 is so so far away…

    • Shawn EH

See, all Edith needs is to find her inner Bloomsbury and she can Werq it, too!

    • Molly Harrington ⚓

Scorned Princess; Fairy Godmother; Evil Witch. NOT in a bad way though! These pictures are absolutely stunning.

    • A. Valera

Edith for the win.  She looks gorgeous!

    • DesertDweller79

Go Edith!  Laura Carmichael’s is my favorite.

    • Corsetmaker

Beautiful. ‘LOVE’ always has such gorgeous photography.

    • EEKstl

      LOVE!  Wish S3 were sooner.

    • Emily Wilkerson

      WOW Laura Carmichael looks gorgeous.

    • Bob Sponge

      can’t. wait. Ah!!!

    • AWS

Ew… Did True Blood fuck Downton Abbey?

    • aristida_girl

nice editorial, i love the delicacy..

    • TieDye64

Wow, Laura Charmichael is seriously killing it! Good on you, girl. That last photo is killer, too.

    • librarygrrl64

JBF looks the best in this kind of thing. Like a Pre-Raphaelite model.
