Donna Karan Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Posted on July 25, 2012

Kittens, you all look a little pallid and wan. Perhaps you’re not getting enough fierce in your life. We recommend staring at the following until the urge to get up and do a runway walk wearing a tiny little fedora becomes overwhelming.

Donna Karan Fall Winter 2012 featuring model Aymeline Valade photographed by Russell James.

Let these fierce looks inspire you, darlings. You may also give yourself snaps up while you strut, if the mood strikes you. Go ahead. No one’s looking. And if they are, fuck ’em.

    • VicksieDo

      Quite fierce. love it!

    • call_me_schmeg

picture #3 is serving up cate blanchett a la victor victoria realness.

    • julnyes

She’s got cheekbones for daaayyyysss – fab indeed.

    • Kiltdntiltd

There are some stylish dykes in my world who will go all swoony over this stuff. Brava Ms Karan!

      • Heather

Straight girls too! I want that red dress…

      •ía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

Me too! I love tailored garments, but my life doesn’t call for them too much. Although judging from that first pic, I’m afraid i don’t have enough knees to be this fierce!

    • l_c_ann

Can we hope that classic tailoring skills will move back to the skill set of designer?

These leave poufiness in the dust.

      • Kayceed

        Yes, thank you and amen!

    • Mary Stone

      I. Want. Those. Boots.

      • Snailstsichr

Oh my they are wonderful. Thanks for causing me to go back and look.

    • MzzPants

Now this is DK I can love.

    • Winterhart

Fabulous photos.  The last picture, though, makes me think that there was a photobomb that nobody noticed.  “Posed and fierce, posed and fierce, O HAI I’M ON UR KNEE!”

    • hughman

      Oh so “Tipping The Velvet”.

    • snarkykitten

unf yes please. A refreshing take on the “strong mad, simpering lady” thing.

    • LaylaSV

The Donna Karan brand is rooted in corporate power looks so, intellectually, I understand the campaign but, to me, it feels fusty and dated – like a Broadway musical for the packaged tour crowd;  Bob Fosse presents, “Foxhunt: a sexy look at the Libor scandal.”

The world being what it is right now, I might have opted to focus on a different aspect of the brand – whither the velvet burnout gowns?

    • Jae

    • StellaZafella

“Put on yo’ red dress mama,
      we goin’ out tunnight!”
Heavy on the back beat and WERQ it now!

    • Vanja

I WANT the red dress and the striped suit and the glitter suit. Not really sure about the hats.

    • gabbilevy

I would not mind being a Donna Karan woman.

      • Aurumgirl

I’m surprised that I might be–at least in terms of aesthetics.  But every time I see her clothes presented here, I see all kinds of dresses and pieces that I would love to have and that would really be flattering, classic clothing.  So, yes, Donna Karan for me, too!

    • kimmeister

Unfortunately, pretty much all fedoras are tiny on me.

But I must have that red dress!

      • Heather

Fedoras always remind me of Duran Duran (fond memories).

        • kimmeister

The first cassette tape I ever purchased as a wee lass was their Notorious album.  <3

    • DaringMiss

I *will* own that red dress.

    • Lauren Lynch Fox

    • Pants_are_a_must

Good god, what an awesome campaign.

    • MilaXX

She’s giving some of the best blue steel I’ve seen in a long time. We see so many celeb editorials we forget what it looks like when a pro does it.

    • MoHub

      Very ’30s/’40s German cinema.

    • another_laura

Oh my freaking god, I love this and I don’t usually like DK.  I’m gonna get all Judy Garland-ed up and do a little “C’mon Get Happy” when I get home tonight!

    • MishaFoomin

Dangerously skirting duckface territory in some.

    • NurseEllen

Does anyone else hear Frank Sinatra in the background?  “Start spreadin’ the news……….”

      • understateddiva

I’m hearing “short skirt long jacket” by Cake…

    • formerlyAnon

These are awesome even after you subtract out the lean, long-limbed model.

That red dress might even look amazing on mere mortal women under 5″4.  (Why, yes, I am 5′ 3″-ish, emphasis on the “-ish.” Why do you ask?)

The gentlemen are not so shabby either, though I know they aren’t the focus.

    • CatherineRhodes

Love the Weimar Republic nod. Divinely decadent, indeed.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Serving up Duran Duran realness.  LOVE.  i’m seeing the boys in just under a month — they just sound better and better with age.  the duran duran nerd bears are shifting their loyalties from nick to simon because he’s been sporting a hot beard and a bit of a belly.  i’ve seen them in each of the past four decades.

p.s. this is what i would have loved to see from bert.

    • Spreecord

Mark my words: We will see Nicole Kidman in that red dress at some point.

    • Joyce VG

ooh i needed that…. thank you!

    • fursa_saida

      DO WANT

    • frankystein123

      Blue Steel at its best.

    • Daenyx

I love everything about this collection and these pictures are to die.

    • guest2visits

I really love that fedora most with the red dress and the sparkly gown. The model has an amazing face for it too.
I just can’t see anyone taking a chance on hats, this way.  Maybe Christine Hendricks, she’s a hat person. She could do
that red dress and hat.  Or maybe Cate Blanchett.

      • Kayceed

Miss Hendricks should go see DK soonish – she would look really great in these structured clothes.

        • tereliz

THIS! She was on the cover of Lucky Magazine in a nude Donna Karan dress a while back. It fit AND flattered her. Gorgeous cover. I love Ashley Greene for DKNY, but Christina could rock so many Donna Karan dresses SO hard.

    • crash1212

TO DIE. Want it all…including cute model’s head on my knee. NOW, please.

    • Gabriella M

      All the hats plz kthxbye.

    • annachronizm

how very 50 shades of grey…

    • SapphoPoet

Love the last dress and hope someone wears it on the red carpet.

    • Larkin21

I often find fedora’s annoying but shit does she make it work. Fierce.

    • jimmack

It looks like Donna is channeling the musical “Chicago”. Hot stuff.

    • mjude

    • PeggyOC

Hey, red dress ,wanna come over to my house and play?

    • Judy_J

Love, love, love that red dress!

    • Athenrein

Love. I want this to be my life. But I’m not tall enough and I’m pretty sure I look silly when I wear hats.

    • tereliz

Do I really need a sequined tuxedo jacket for fall? (Please don’t anyone say no!)

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Of course you do.  We All do!

    • marilyn

Everything looks great except the hat.  My late father wore one of those, so the look does not work with me.

    • Adrianna Grężak

So many designers are clearly inspired by Mad Men

    • Deitra S.

“No one’s looking.  And if they are, fuck ’em.”  Words to live by, TLo, words to live by.

    • quiltrx

FIERCE.  Love the menswear/tailored look, always have.

    • Isy

This is interesting in that the female model exudes all the power and the male models are situated and placed like eye candy in similar way to how women are posed in editorials featuring men. Not good, maybe? But interesting to look at.

    • Liana Brooks

Oh, to be 21 and in the right shape to pull those clothes off. I want that red one.
