Beyonce Knowles In Stéphane Rolland Couture

Posted on July 02, 2012

Bey. Girl.

This is not your color.

It’s a kickass kind of dress and we would love to see it on you in a vivid blue or even white, but this is NOT a color that promotes an image of beauty and health. “Sallow” is not the word every gal wants to hear applied to her when she’s sporting thousands of dollars worth of gown, shoes, jewelry, and hair.  Plus it’s satin-y, which means those areas of the dress that might not fit the body as well as they should (like in the bust and torso) are magnified a million-fold once you step onto stage lights. Bad choice, hon.

But hey; love your shoes.

No, no, no…color is bad and too much leg.

      • mshesterp

YES.  Put the upper thigh away.  And if you have to gather the dress(/pant?) to not trip over it while just standing there, it’s a fail.

        • Lydia V. Forman

almost anything but this shade of yellow.  She could have even gone for a yellow with a lot more red in

        • Cynthia J. Parker

I am horrified at this fact, but I do think you are correct.  Burn it!

        • MoHub

The tucking of the skirt looks like a ladies’ room mishap.

    • Sobaika

Yeah, not my favorite choice for her skintone. And her wrangling it to get on stage makes it look even sloppier.

      • SassieCassy

YESSS and her wild hair – which i usually love! – only adds to the messiness overall. Even goddesses get it wrong sometimes i guess.

    • Kiltdntiltd

Total agreement with you guys.  Wow what a misfire of a color. Emerald, sapphire, magenta, almost anything but this shade of yellow.  She could have even gone for a yellow with a lot more red in it.

      • Michelle Jb

Exactly. Fact is everyone can look great in any color, but it all depends on the TONE.

        • Kiltdntiltd

You got it!  Beyonce, could easily wear a yellow that trends more to the orange end, rather than the lemon range. And intense hues are her best allies.

    • WendyD

Is that really a dress or a one-legged jumpsuit??

      • DeebaCee

I was trying to figure out the same thing…. I’m still undecided.

      • Merneith

Oh my gosh – it *is* a one-legged pants suit! Ewwww. Thankfully, that’s never going to catch on.

And that belt was the crowing mistake.

        • JimMcC

You mean that craft project strapped around her middle?  Horrrrrrible.

        • formerlyAnon

At least they didn’t have her wear it as the model did, it’d be jabbing up into her under-cleavage.

          • Monkey Toe

I prefer it pointing to the tits rather than the junk to be honest.

      • Anathema_Device

I know!! I’m looking at this on my phone and didn’t want to believe what I thought I was seeing, but I think you’re right.

      • Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I am horrified at this fact, but I do think you are correct.  Burn it!!!

      • kimmeister

OMG that would be the worst thing EVAR.

      • NC_Meg

I feel better knowing I’m not the only one wondering that and cringing at the thought of it. Surely Bey knows better than a ONE LEGGED JUMPSUIT? Hopefully?

        • poggi

Exactly. I would expect this of Tyra Banks– her jumpsuit experimentation is legendary, but Beyonce? I thought she had more sense.

      • Aniela Marie Perry

It is a one-legged pantsuit. Some awful person wore one to the Met Ball I remember and it is the most absurd looking dress/pantsuit I have ever seen. They must all be burned.

    • Lisa Dugan

Her face and hair are gorgeous and I adore the shoes.  Yay, not a ridiculous stomping platform for a change.  The dress is pretty but agree, a different color would have been worlds better.

      • MarinaB

I disagree–I think that blond hair looks hiddy and is a big part of why this color dress looks ridiculous on her.

        • NC_Meg

The color doesn’t bother me (although I do like it darker) but I LOVE the curls. I’m assuming that’s what he hair looks like naturally because there are personal/vacation photos out there where she has the same curls. I love it.

    • Hiptobesquare

When you’re a woman as gorgeous as Beyonce, you do not want to wear a dress that makes you look like you have fat thighs and cellulite.  And bumpy breasts. And a gut.

      The color is awful too.

      • Sara Munoz Munoz

But she is ROCKING that cellulite.

        • AthenaJ

I have a strong urge to bring that picture when I go to the beach… if Bey can rock cellulite, maybe there’s some hope for the rest of us?

          • Sobaika

We can all rock the cellulite!

      • VicD

That is quite a haunch hanging out of that sorry excuse for a dress

    • MilaXX

When she walked out in this dress I think I actually recoiled in horror. In addition to  being too tight & shiny it looked a little wrinkled from sitting in the audience. As far as I’m concerned this dress would be just as fug in any color of the rainbow.

    • Alison McAfee

girls got thighs. and they’re killer. but not killer enough for that slit. sorry girl, you’re still the best.

    • DinaSews

Why do these stars pick dresses that they have to bunch up in their hands just to walk?  If they like the look of a train for the rc, they should ask the designer to figure out a way to bustle it for walking!

    • LuqeMann

      And that belt looks painful!

      • kimmeister

I can understand why she didn’t deploy it so that the middle thing isn’t stabbing her in the sternum, but now it’s pointing directly at her hoo-ha.

    • Sara Munoz Munoz

Either she’s not breastfeeding, or she’s got some industrial-strength nursing pads in there…

      • Rosomaqa

Breastfeeding does not equal use of nursing pads. I’ve breastfed for a total of 5 years and never used them. After milk supply stabilizes (usually 6-8 weeks), only a minority of women need pads.

        • Sara Munoz Munoz

I just mean that the dress is TIGHT. I know I would’ve been afraid of leakage if my girls were squished that tight.

But also, 5 years? Great job!

    • kingderella

      i actually like it quite a bit…

    • Ogden1990

So she flipped the belt around. My first thought was, great idea, it won’t stab her in the sternum when she sits down. My second thought was, yowza, it’s totally going to stab her pubic mound.

      • Snailstsichr

I don’t like the belt either way. Though it is about the only interesting thing about the dress.

        Love the shoes.

      • Vanja a.k.a Emma a.k.a. M

I like the belt as it was on the model, it looks like a skyline, but I understand why she flipped it.

    • elmhurstgal

Don’t like the color of her dress either.  And her hair color is too close to the color of her skin tone!

    • schadenfreudelicious

that’s way too much upper thigh…even for Beyonce….

    • formerlyAnon

Color is by far not the first complaint I’d have about the dress (too much slit, too much unflattering slinky shininess) – but dang. She’s young, she’s gorgeous and she looks happy. And her shoes are hot.

I’m pretty sure she could care less about our sage advice. Hopefully she’s listening so in 10 or 15 years when the bomb proof protection of young & pretty starts to wear thin, she can use it.

    • Fordzo

I wish she hadn’t turned the belt into a big arrow that points to where The Second Coming came from.

      • Tammy_4

Exactly.  How does she sit without getting stabbed in the crotch?

        • Dixie Murphy Ross

who says she does? maybe she likes it!

    • Kayceed

What the heck is this? A mutant jumpsuit? As noted, the look is not elevated by the color, nor by the belt worn upside down to point in an unfortunate direction.

    • Pants_are_a_must

That dress doesn’t really flatter her in general. Sadness.

    • mjude

    • Kelly Ridings

How in the world would you sit in that thing without the huge metal spike on that belt stabbing you in places I would not want to be stabbed?  Do you just have to sit up REALLY really straight?

    • quiltrx

It almost has a padded-bra look in the entire torso…and looks nothing like that on the model.  WEIRD dress.

Her hair (or should I say “hair”) looks great, though.

    • AthenaJ

I would not want to wear anything that so closely resembles a knife pointed at my hoo-ha.

    • charlotte

Not good. Is it me or does the belt look like a skyline (upside down on Beyonce)? “What city are you wearing?” sounds like a nice break from “Who are you wearing?”…

    • AthenaJ

      Is that anyone’s color??

      • kimmeister

I think it could be great on a very dark skinned woman.

    • EditKitten

The boob squishage is making mine hurt.

    • Lina_bee

Sulfur is NOT her color, and even apart from that, the design is weird and unflattering. She looks great from the neck up and ankles down, but my goodness.

    • sockandaphone

also that slit is too much, ick. But whatever, its Beyonce, and shes trying to make it work like usual.

    • butterflysunita

I agree it’s not her color, but she looks so beautiful, happy and confident.  If this were an IN/OUT post I’d say IN because she looks so great, yellow satiny dress notwithstanding.

    • TieDye64

Ooof, really not her color and that’s a whole lotta thigh showing.

    • SapphoPoet

      Well. I like her hair.

    • TomBord

Well the trophy matches the belt nicely. (That is a belt and not a weapon , right? )

    • Dan Alexander

Why can’t she ever wear her natural hair in the color god gave her? Why is she afraid to wear the hair she was born with? You are not a blonde!!!!

      • MilaXX

Never gonna happen. That’s not who Bey is. Honestly I don’t care if she’s weaved/dyed up. I care more about those that choose to be natural being allowed to do so without being made to feel as if they don’t measure up. There should be room for all kinds of beauty.

    • Dan Alexander

I mean, all the young African-American girls who look up to you are not going to be able to pay the $$$ you waste on your wigs, extensions and hair dye/bleach. Show them who the real Beyonce is!

    • Dot

Holy God, that is unflattering as all hell.

    • nannypoo

OK, so the dress and hair are awful, but look at that face. So beautiful.

    • agentilities

that hair is screaming for some moisturizer

    • Dixie Murphy Ross

by flipping the built, it points down and goes “HEY MY VAGINA!”

    • janetjb

Yikes!  She’s wearing a one legged jumpsuit!

The fit and color aren’t doing her any favors.

    • librarygrrl64

      Love the natural-looking hair. :-)

      • MilaXX

lol that is as far from natural looking as you can possibly get.

        • librarygrrl64

LOL, yeah, I getcha. But at least it’s not flat-ironed/blown-out to within an inch of its life. As a curly-headed lass, I get soooooo tired of other naturally-curly-headed lasses doing that. I’d also like to have a talk with her about the color……

    • Anathema_Device

I really hate everything about this look. She is so beautiful and can wear so many great looks. Why this one?

    • PeaceBang

That girl can work anything. I think she looks great. Until I looked more closely. But the overall impression I get is sheer diva.

    • crash1212

To be fair, don’t think that’s anybody’s color and she’s pulling it off as well as anybody could. Why she chose it would be a great question. I’m curious about the freaking belt!!?? How does one actually sit in a seat wearing something that looks like it would be stabbing your lady parts? Does is fold in the middle when one sits? Someone please explain.

    • lovelyivy

Beyonce man… sigh… I thought we had gotten past the state of COMPLETE AND UTTERLY TACKY that she used to live in when her Mother styled her. This reminds me of the atrocities inflicted upon my eyes during the Destiny’s Child era specifically- does anyone remember the Bootylicious video? This would fit right in.

She is fast coming upon the stage in her life where she has to make sure her clothes flatter her mature body, rather than assuming that everything will be ok because she’s so young and skinny. It happens to us all.

    • melanie0866

I hope those are just wrinkles and it’s not actually tucked into her panties.

Cool how she turned the belt over, though.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

That dress color is bilious.  UGH.

    • marilyn

The belt is on upside down, pointing to her crotch, because she is too shortwaisted for this dress.  if the belt had been worn properly, according to the runway model’s look, it would have lifted and separated her boobage.  She is a dancer, and this dress makes her thighs look enormous.  This is an unfortunate dress for a beautiful woman.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

That dress or whatever is all kinds of ugly, and I can’t think of anyone who COULD wear that hiddy color.  The shoes, however, are GORGEOUS!

    • ChaquitaPhilly

Is it a dress or is it a pant? Whatever-it’s ugly.

    • LambeeBaby

That color does not look good on anyone. Apparently those pointy nails are “In” but I think they look kind of weird. Maybe I will get used to it eventually. But the color combo makes me think Chicklets.

    • SpillinTea

I think Kelly Rowland would have WERQed this dress.  Thats a color made for a chocolate sista, not butter pecan 😉

    • Martin C

What happens when she sits down?

    • Maddie_Faddenoid

I love her for wearing a dress that shows her cellulite. She has gone up greatly in my estimation.

    • Sierra Delta

Even though I hate Bey’s garment with all of the passion I usually reserve for nude pumps, I have to say that the Woman of the Year looks way more comfortable in her skin than Kim K. does in hers in the photos of the girls bookending their menfolk at this event.

    • elzatelzabelz

So tragic in so many ways.

    • GTrain

I’m glad to see it on the model because I was wondering why she kept clutching the side like that, even when she wasn’t on stage.

    • mhleta

That whole thing is just one enormous mess. The wrinkled lap, dreadful fit, the over exposed thigh, and, is that a sports bra she’s wearing under there because she’s got some serious mono-boob going on?

    • guest2visits

I think it’s bad color even for the model; but it’s the giant opening (too large to call it a ‘slit’) that really destroys it.

    • LinXGUA

I like her hair. And she’s rocking those nails i hate so much.

    • OneTwoThreeFashion

    • bitterk

Beautiful girl but she has never had any fashion sense

    • Basic_Li

That thing is a travesty, and its not a gown. It’s a wide leg pantsuit that’s missing a leg. Her skin tone and hair color with that red bull colored dress is a definite fail. Now on the other hand if you were doubting she carried that baby, that thing she’s wearing and that belt are showing every teeny tiny bit of baby fat she hasn’t toned up yet. She is a lovely woman and that ensemble is doing nothing to emphasize that.
