Ashley Greene for Nylon Magazine

Posted on July 24, 2012

Question: Why would you take someone like the stunningly beautiful Ashley Greene; someone who knows how to wear clothes well…

Vintage blazer by Moschino. T-shirt and bandana by What Goes Around Comes Around. Shoes by Dsquared2.

Ashley Greene covers the August 2012 issue of Nylon magazine.

On keeping her waitressing gig after booking Twilight: I was working at the Belmont Cafe in L.A., got the call, and two weeks later was rehearsing. Right when I was cast, my IMDb STARmeter [a chart that tracks actors based on how many searches are done on them] went through the roof — all of ours did, and we hadn’t even done anything yet!. I asked my boss if I could have my job back after the shoot. He was like, “I don’t think you’ll need it but OK.”

And put her in the lady version of the “jeans and t shirt’ guyditorial? All she needs is a retro diner or gas station out in the desert and the picture would be complete. She takes a great picture and the outfits are actually quite cute in their own way (although cutoffs and pumps are never not going to read “Walk of Shame” to us), but what a wasted opportunity. We’re not saying she should be sporting couture here; just something with a little more style and chicness to it.

      Death to the pockets-showing-below-the-hem-of-the-cutoff-shorts trend!

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Truth!!!! It was tacky as hell in the 70s, and it still is now.

My dad would refer to these cut-offs as “Tuff Nut” cutoffs, in reference to some Tuff Nut jeans (those are a brand?) that he had back in the 70s that my mom cut a little TOO much off of when making cutoffs for him, thereby rendering his….well, the joke writes itself.

Yes! A Fiery death! Preferably quick…

No wonder L.A. seems so odd to the outsider. Half the under- or un-employed (arriving from both hemispheres daily!) are prettier-than-average to genetically-gifted, modestly to insanely talented, highly motivated to intensely driven, or some combination thereof.

      • HomeOfficeGirl

        Or high.

        • formerlyAnon

Possibly so, though I have no strong impression that any more of the under-/un-employed are high in L.A. than anywhere else I’ve been.  Au contraire, actually . . . though that may have had something to do with the times and the stomping grounds of my companions, not the specific cities.

The makeup is also way heavy given the types of looks they put her in.

    • PeggyOC

They clearly couldn’t get Kristen Stewart for this shoot.  These are her clothes.

    • unbornfawn

These look like outfits for Kristen Stewart.

    • RebeccaKW

The shorts are the devil.  Why is there a dirty hankie hanging out of her pocket in the last shot?  Was she changing her oil in her fringe jacket and pumps?

    • another_laura

Yeah, I’m with you, T Lo.  The cut-off jeans are tragic.  Overall, I’m seeing way too much of the short-shorts these days and on women who don’t have the fab gams of Ms. Greene; it is not to be encouraged, people!  All of these looks are just yuck.  Except that I like the shoes…..

    • MilaXX

This is the kinds of stuff they should do with KStew. All this going against type doesn’t always work.

    • Kristin McNamara

Awful awful awful last photo. Her legs look so unnatural (damn photoshop) and her hair looks eleventy-seven times larger than it usually does.

    • dulcinea86

Well, it’s Nylon’s annual Denim Issue (why?), so I guess the stylist had to play by those rules. Too bad, the result is so boring! I’m loving the second outfit though, where she’s perched on the white stool, that’s more her wheelhouse.

    • ChelseaNH

They should have let K Stew do this editorial.  She might even have smiled.

She looks ready to be laying atop the hood of a red 57 chevy…in the desert. Still, this is how America dresses….only in versions from Kohls and JCPenney. Typical mall wear.

Those outfits look like the dollar bin at the thrift store threw up on her.

      • sashaychante

Like the ’80s bin at the thrift store threw up on her.

    • PinkLemon

those last red shoes are GROSS. and i love looking at her face.

My BF did a charity walk recently called “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes,” where guys in heels do a one-mile walk through town to raise awareness of violence against women (an awesome event) – and I swear he wore the EXACT SAME SHOES!!! They were great for that event, fug here.

        • PinkLemon

hahaha! sounds perfect for that event. i can TOTALLY see a guy in those. haha

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2CNDPMVO4W23R5TVC2QMTJ5BZE Heather

It’s a really cool event – if you Google “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” you can learn more about it. It was awesome to see so many guys turning up for it, and taking a stand against violence against women. My BF walked with the county rescue squad of which he is a member (a lot of guys were in teams – firefighters, local businesses, etc.). It was really endearing to see him and his buff squad mates struggling to walk in heels! Altogether the event raised more than $20K for a local charity to benefit survivors of domestic violence. :-)

    • Rebecca Johnson

Dullsville, but MAN is she beautiful.

    • Jessi03

No comments on the back pocket bandanna?  Also, are lace-up pants really coming back?

    • Aurumgirl

She has looked a lot better in so many other photographs.  Yuck.

    • AudreysMom

hmmm… and these thrift store cast offs cost what? a few hundred $$$$ for each piece?

    • janetjb

Well….at least she’s wearing something denim.

Nylon magazine has some of the worst photos, plus those might be Kristen Stewart’s clothes.

    • Fordzo

This proves it. You can put her in (the fashion equivalent of) a trash bag and she still looks gorgeous. *sigh*

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

She really is a beautiful girl.  Hate the clothes, though, excluding those fantastic red FMP’s.

    • AngelaGreen

I think they thought they had KStew and not Ashley.  She could have done a lot heavier lifting than this.

    • redgauntlet

Why? Because she’s all about the legs. Also the busy, structured jacket and the hair cascading over her body hides the fact she’s anorexic.

    • guest2visits

It would have been fine to show her in this kind of ‘youthful’ casual; except the raggedy denim swatch is so short it makes her legs
look like toothpicks. The pose on the stool could have been really nice except she looks too grey and faded from the choice of
clothes they put her in.   She’s still very beautiful; I like the jacket with the leather arms.

    • http://twitter.com/Hussified Coleen

Are these Terry Richardson photos? Ashley is so gorgeous, but the styling and the background is so blah.
