Anne Hathaway in Dolce&Gabbana

Posted on July 12, 2012

How mid-sixties fab is Miss Annie here?

Anne Hathaway attends the ‘Shut Up & Play The Hits’ premiere at the Village East Cinema in New York City in a Dolce & Gabbana dress.

Andy’s invited us all back to the factory, darling! We’ll see you there!

It’s semi-hilarious how there are people in the background in almost every shot looking at her lovingly. Granted, she looks chic as hell, but we amuse ourselves by pretending Anne paid them all to do that for her.

But brava, darling. You’re stuck with that Fantine hair so you did the one smart style thing you can do in such a situation. You went full-on Edie Sedgwick. Love that.

Her stylist is doing right by her in this pre-movie release push. Playing to her strengths and keeping her accessible. Nice.

      • call_me_schmeg

“accessible” was the first thing that popped into my mind! cute and not over-thought. love!

        • AudreysMom

and perfectly fitting with a hot summer. Even the weather gods love Annie!

    • RzYoung

Super cute. I think she’ll give this hair style a couple of months for the promo, then she’ll hair extension the shit out of it.

      • Jecca2244

Agreed. it’s going to get old really quick.

    • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Anne looks lovely, but I’m intrigued by the bright-ass cobalt shoes paired with neon orange toenail polish in pic 2.

      • bxbourgie

Me too! My eye was instantly drawn to her as I scrolled down. Love those!  And the polish.

        • Rebecca Jay

And the legs in them.  Sheeit!

        • call_me_schmeg

yes, but let’s do what TLo would want and fully judge that blue-shoed girl in the background, because that ratty beach hair just isn’t working for me….

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Actually, that’s the very last thing we want. Celebs are fair game, but making fun of people who happened to be caught in the picture is a little too mean for us.

            • call_me_schmeg

i have been fully schooled by my two gay uncles.

            • call_me_schmeg

…..and i spilled my shirley temple on their white couch….

            • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

Pfft. We have CATS, darling. White couches remain nothing more than a pleasant fantasy for us.

            • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

It got so hot in my basement this year that I covered the couches in 500 ct white sheets. Sure, I get to indulge in “I snuck into an empty Hamptons beach house” fantasies, but the cats are less than forgiving.

            • mayavaly

I was once silently admonished for a, admittedly mean, by-stander comment. Usually only my mother can make me feel as awful. Lesson learned!

            • alyce1213

She has fabulous legs, we can say that.

        • Sobaika

I like her outfit. I wish her skin tone wasn’t in the orange family though. Fake tans freak me out.

      • ballerinawithagun

Me too! I posted about them before seeing yours.

      • AuntieAnonny

         So tragic.

      • kimmeister

I would wear the crap out of those shoes!  (No neon orange polish though).

        • TieDye64

They’re super cute and what a color.

    • filmcricket

Adorbs. Love the dress, love the shades, love the photobombers. (I thought New Yorkers were famous for being unfazed by, er, the famous? And I presume the bald guy with the goatee must be a handler of some kind, given the way he’s emphatically not moving from that spot.)

      • TheOriginalLulu

Either that or he’s a stalker.
The New York attitude towards celebs is just what you’re seeing in these pics. A glance over the shoulder like hey there’s Anne Hathaway, she’s so cute, anyway let me keep walking because she has stuff to do and so do I.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Cute – but the sunglasses are buggin’.. too much for her face.

    • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

Isn’t she a little past the sell-by date on “gamine”?  Still, she looks cute as hell here.

      • Alisa Rivera

Since it’s for a movie she gets a pass, unlike Michelle Williams.

        • http://twitter.com/thesquizz Lauren

She was just on Live with Kelly and she said the movie wrapped months ago…

          • gabbilevy

It’s definitely longer than it was for the film. It was *very* roughly shorn, so I imagine it’s taken some trimming to get it even and normal.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VZLU6YVO4BRTELTTH3GRAAMWZQ Dot

When you shave your head, it takes more than a few months for the hair to grow back enough for a longer style.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

She is tiny and she can wear it, but she looks about 12

    • afabulous50

I don’t think she’s every looked truly bad in anything.  She has enviable style (or stylists)…

    • Rand Ortega

Gamine. That’s the word the media used to use for style pixies like Twiggy, Mia, the Shrimp. Anne looks fantastic, simple &, finally, unique.

    • miagain

I want her shoes… now, please!

      • twocee

Me too!  And so of course there’s no close-up or info on them (not that I could afford them anyway!).

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/Y2NRENM73PYXEHSNLE7K2DY5PM Bethany

They look like a variation on the Ferragamo F/W11 houndstooth bow flats — which are no longer available.  You might be able to find them for resale somewhere.

      • Celandine1

Me too, I must have those shoes and the necklace. So glad houndstooth looks to be in for fall.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

My hair is as short as hers. My hair stylist went crazy, and since I am so nearsighted and don’t wear contacts, I didn’t notice how short it was until I put on my glasses! However, I don’t look as cute as her!

      • miagain

I bet you look fabulous!  I always know when my hair is really short when I wash it the first time after a cut…yikes…where’d it go?

    • ballerinawithagun

I love the blue platforms on the woman in the background.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/FEP56YB4DUIXBWSLIMSSSGQHWY jimmack

Ummm. Hmmm. Ahhh. I got it. She is starting to channel Twiggy.

    • Pennymac

Just adorable. There is no security blanket in that short hair, you either rock it or you don’t. She is totally and completely working it!

    • schadenfreudelicious

it’s a skosh too short for me (and her i think :), not sure how you would sit in it and keep your bits covered, but i’m quibbling, she looks lovely

      • https://twitter.com/Gayer_Than_Thou Gayer Than Thou

When I first read “it’s a skosh too short for me …, not sure how you would sit in it and keep your bits covered,” I thought you were talking about her hair.  Which, now I think of it, if you were sitting in it is probably too short to keep your bits covered (or mine, anyway).

    • Spicytomato1

Love the dress. And the hair is so perfect for sultry summer days, so effortessly chic.

I wish I was brave/committed enough to go for a pixie cut again but having lived the pain of growing one out, I can’t fathom doing that again.

    • queen_Z

tad too short for me but then again i’m still a little traumatized by a woman bending over in a dress that length back in the 70′s.

    • AuntieAnonny

Did you see her on Live? I’m officially in love with her (and her stylist).

    • mjude

      she is so adorable.

    • vintagion

Cutie pie! But that bald guy in the back is creeeepin’. I guess that might be me if I saw her on the street in this outfit.

    • annie_wonder

That bald dude in the background totally wants to marry her. I don’t blame him, frankly.

    • Chillmer

She looks fantastic but I wish the dress was any color other than black! It’s summer!

    • formerlyAnon

I love this look on her. I’ve never found her as beautiful as most people seem to – attractive, intelligently dressed, yes, but not gorgeous. Don’t know if it’s personal whims or just that it doesn’t come through for me in photos.

But in this look I see it.

    • kcaza

I feel like the pictures are made by the people in the background. For instance, the disinterested guy in the second pic should either button one more button or call me. The girl in the flip flops is a) cutting the nice gentleman who just wanted a smoke and b) likely to be hit by a car. The bald guy is thinking ‘I’d hit it’.

Anne looks great though my initial thought was that the fabric seemed a tinge like upholstery.

      • PaulaBerman

I was fascinated by the girl in the background with the neon blue suede platforms. People really wear stuff like that just to bop around the streets? Good lord.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/QK3MTAHUVJCMI7DANY6WFCAIUM n a

i think she looks a little uncomfortable- like she’s hunching over a bit b/c the skirt is soooo short on her long body.  not that she couldn’t work it- but i think miss anne- has some modesty & is worried about flashing her nethers when she walks. :/ (I would be too)

      • Whever

Ha, that reminds me that she once considered being a nun.

    • piecesofconfetti

      Fabulous

    • Kyle Crawford

Anyone who finds any fault at all with this needs to just lay off the bitter pills!  This is just a perfect Summertime look… on a completely different note,  one look at these sidewalks and your NYC flip flop ban seems so right !  ( and I am a New Yorker ..)

    • ThaliaMenninger

She looks terrific. I’ve also now realized she bears a striking resemblance to Andrew Garfield. Those two need to play the twins in Twelfth Night sooner rather than later.

      • Whever

Not sure about Garfield, but Anne would be a kick-ass Viola! She’s already played the part, for Shakespeare in the Park.

    • jmorino08

I want everything she’s wearing!! Just don’t let me get that haircut! That? would be a disaster!

    • http://thoroughly-me.blogspot.com/ thoroughlyME

      Need houndstooth bow flats NOW!

    • http://twitter.com/starlounging Ann M. Erickson

      Love the flats!

    • Pants_are_a_must

Good on her! That’s a look not many women could carry off. The hair looks better too.

    • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

I would totally be one the fawning public. I adore her. And I think she’s actually more chic and well-dressed with the short hair, and she did a pretty good job before.

    • MilaXX

      She looks really cute!

    • GillianHolroyd

Very cute. I love that she wore it with flats.

    • crash1212

SO cute. I’m also diggin’ the electric blue wedges on the chica in the background in panel two!

      • PinkLemon

         my thoughts exactly!

    • Anathema_Device

LOVE! The houndstooth flats are the perfect touch.

    • unbornfawn

This is a great look. She looks chic. It is too easy to fall into twee with a haircut like that and she seems to be avoiding that trap. Can’t wait until she starts growing it out.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1129137319 Paula Pertile

      She’s finally won me over.
Even if you didn’t know who she was, and wasn’t tipped off that’s she’s somebody because of the cameras, you’d still notice her (in a good way).

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

cute bald guy in the background is cute.

    • Lilithcat

      Why, it’s Mlle. Caron!

    • PinkLemon

this reads as a brunette michelle williams to me

    • holdmewhileimnaked

      jean seberg.

      edited to add:
i dont think lovingly is quite the reception she’s being given. more benumbed by the constancy of being bemused by the paparazzi in nyc. & a lot of what the internet calls side-eye.

    • EEKstl

I was thinking Edie Sedgwick too (pre Miss Clairol #1284).  Her outfit is fab. I look forward to seeing what she does with her hair as it grows out, which I’m assuming she will do.

    • kikisayshi

Anne looks cute, but I’m questioning the girl in the background of the 2nd pic with the gigantic blue suede platform sandals.

    • guest2visits

Even though I think it’s just a bit too short; she’s so very pretty – head to toe.  Love the street stories.

    • granddelusion

Wow, that’s short. How does she not expose her bum?

      • portlandmermaid

In the 60′s, I hemmed my skirts to fall exactly at the first knuckle of my middle finger. I then learned the Bunny Dip from my roommate who was a Playboy Bunny and never, ever bent over. No water fountains for me!

    • http://www.thirteen.org/downton-abbey/category/the-downton-dish/ Gotham Tomato

That gamine style looks fabulous on her. But I kinda wish she went full-on and wore go go boots to go with it all.

      –GothamTomato

    • bellafigura1

I love me some Anne, some Fantine, some Edie Sedgwick.  However, the bystander’s cobalt platforms simply confirm that Anne is wearing the wrong shoes here.  Her shoes take this from the edge of fabulous to boring.

    • TieDye64

I love this look so much. Freaking chic and adorable!

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I wish this dress was just a skosh longer.  But I love her anyway.

    • erinbinek

I’m sorry, I just can’t with that hair. Darling- a wig, extensions, something. STAT.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

Those are the Prada Hotrod sunglasses, aren’t they. Bitch. /sojealous.

    • kaycem

“people” is a bit of an overstatement … i’d say “that one creepy ass bald guy” is more accurate in re: photobombers.

    • Linzenberg

I want to see Anne bust out a Rich Man’s Frug right there is what I want.

. . . Rereading that comment, it seems that fashion, fabulousness, Fosse, and musical theater don’t mix well at 1 AM.
