WERQ: Kristen Stewart in Narciso Rodriguez

Posted on June 01, 2012

That’s right, bitches. We’re giving Miss K a WERQ. Legions of Twi-fans on twitter are now removing the pins from their T Lo voodoo dolls.

Snow White and the Huntsman starlet Kristen Stewart makes an appearance on ‘The Today Show’ in New York City in a Narciso Rodriguez dress.

Narciso Rodriguez Fall 2012 Collection

But that’s not why we’re singing the hosannas. We fear no fangurl. It’s simply that this is the perfect K Stew outfit, combining the hard and the soft in a way that not only suits her, but that she needs. She only ever looks comfortable when she manages to balance out the darker and lighter sides of her own personality in her clothes. Put her in something too severe and she looks downright scary; put her in something frilly and girly and her disgust is palpable. But put her in something sleek and sexy, with a tiny bit of a dominatrix feel to it, give her some soft hair and makeup, and the girl becomes a head-turner.

You WERQ that leather-and-lace vibe, girl. Snaps up.

Adorable! Love that last pic, she looks almost…… happy?

    • StrandedFashionista

I know. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her give a genuine smile on the Red Carpet before.

      • meowing

I would so love to see a picture of her in mid-guffaw.  Wonder if she ever guffaws.

        • StrandedFashionista

I think if she guffawed a rip would occur in the space-time continuum.

          •  This whole half-pulling-it-off thing is irritating...CNNMoney7.notlong.Com

      • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Right?  I don’t think I’ve ever seen one before this either.  Usually it is a sneer.  She has a nice smile, and should try it more often.

    • Michelle Newell

When she gets a smile on her face, she is just gorgeous. She should do that more often.

  • donkeygospel6

Nothing will ever convince me that Kristen Stewart is the fairest in the
land (and certainly not fairer than Charlize Theron). Hell Kristen
wasn’t even the prettiest girl in TWILIGHT. That honor goes to Taylor

    • gabbilevy

I nearly spat out my Snapple on my keyboard for you last line.

      • donkeygospel6

         Thanks honey but…Snapple? Really?

        • gabbilevy

Hey now! What do you have against Snapple?

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Casting anyone as fairest in the land when Charlize Theron is in the same flick is just asking for snorts of laughter, but a thumb’s up to Ms. Stewart for looking pretty good in the Narciso Rodriguez

    • Steven Colbert said best (to Charlize Theron): “You are so much better looking than that vampire girl!”

    • muzan-e

That honor goes to Taylor Lautner.

      Keyboard…  ruined.  *g*

    • moppet

    • sarajgh

Fairest as in with good heart, not in terms of beauty.

      • donkeygospel6

I’m not even sure her heart is that good since she’s always leading on two guys in every movie. Attention whore!

        • Whever

Could we not throw around the word ‘whore’? From what I’ve heard of the movie, she’s kinda not interested in the romance- she just gets shit done and the guys are left to pine after her.

  • leave_Blake_alone

Nice dress and she looks good in it but this is far from WERQ-worthy. This is an “attagirl” at best.

    • “Serviceable” seems the kindest thing I can say about this look.

      • Alyson Lamble

Amen.  It’s completely brought down by half-assed hair, makeup and accessories.  She needs to ditch the constant raccoon eyes, like, YESTERDAY.

    • mountainFashionista

Funny, this is one of the few WERQs I’ve ever agreed with!

  • MilaXX

I agree this dress is right in her wheelhouse, but her hair looks a mess.

    • schadenfreudelicious

that is some serious JBF hair if ever i have seen it….is Rob around?

    • RebeccaKW

At least it’s clean and brushed.  Baby steps.

    • MissAnnieRN

Agreed. The dress is a WERQ for me. The hair is not WERQ-ing for me. But if we’re being judge-y in a relative way, well, WERQ it, gurl.

(aside-recently heard David Allan Grier interviewed on NPR and he gave hilarious backstory to the system of snaps within black gay theater culture that was the basis for the In Living Color skit. I hope TLo heard it too. I was a fan of the show, but did not make the connection to the WERQ posts til I heard that interview)

      • MilaXX

I may have to search that out. I knew TLo were making a Living Color reference.

  • snarkmeister

Beautiful!  Give your stylist a raise, honey, this is the PERFECT look for you.  And you don’t even look like you’ve been up for the past 72 hours either, so give your makeup artist a raise too!

  • Scimommy

Whoever picked that dress for her is a genius.

    • ballerinawithagun

Agreed. Great dress and perfect for her.

  • twocee

Love the dress, love the makeup, but I can’t sign off on that hair.  Half helmet-hair, half-mermaid hair.

    And I’m pro-KStew.

  • She gets more gorgeous every day.

    • megohd

Wow … I was just going to post that I really don’t understand her appeal. Oh well, to each his/her own.

  • kcliff

I didn’t even know I was rooting for her to look this good until I saw this. Oh damn K-stew. you look good girl. and happy. She knows she looks good! I actually don’t mind her hair. It looks like they were going for a high volume look and maybe it got a little fucked up by the weather or something. At least effort was made.

  • KStew seriously needs to smile a bit bigger and more often. Amazing the difference it makes. I was just telling a coworker this morning how annoyed I get by her because the only emotion it seems she can show is “sullen”.

  • TSkot

Hmm.  Apparently a couple of folks are feeling very very very generous this morning.

    • Nayasabrina

….or those pins are having an subconscious vampire effect….

  • DinaSews

Saw her on Live with Kelly yesterday.  Just as awkward live as she is in pictures.  This IS a good look for her though.

    • DinaSews

Sorry.  Awkward may be a little harsh.  Uncomfortable more accurately describes it.

      • janetjb

        Uncomfortable is an accurate description.

    • As she walked out, I thought, “Can TLo get a screen shot of that smirk?”

  • Jecca2244

it is amazing the difference a smile makes..my mom was right….

  • Paigealicious

I think it’s a damn cute dress…for fall. Not really WERQ-worthy IMO, though.

  • Sobaika

Yayyy, good for her! It’s really satisfying when she gets it right.

  • Anathema_Device

That is a freakin’ amazing dress, and she is indeed werqing it. Well done K. Stew.

  • EEKstl

My only quibble is that the tweed isn’t quite seasonal for May/June, but the rest of the panels even it out a bit.

    • poggi

I thought similarly.  But she does look good and comfortable and like herself.

  • hmariec19

    Damn. That girl looks good.

  • mike__tv

People criticise K-stew for being akward and not smiling. She’s being herself! Not a twi-fan just like authenticity in my celebrities. She looks great here!!!

  • SusiePamudji

I really like this dress length on her. She looks really good here.

  • Spreecord

Oh, she’s looking goooooooood. Way to bring it, K-Stew.

Someone with the opposite face of you, who somehow manages to look happy even when she wants people to die.

    • mountainFashionista

       Ha ha!

At work, I sometimes have to tell people, “Even though my face is making nice at you, and my voice is as chirpy as ever, you’re actually in trouble right now.”  Ditto with disciplining my children.

Apparently the only time I get it right is when I’m fighting with my husband  :-S

  • newleaf1

    Want. that. dress.

  • Does it look good on her?  Absolutely.  Is this a WERQ?  F no!

Look at the way she’s standing!  That’s a “gotta pee” or a twee “I’m so special, but I’m so embarrased” stance.

  • halleygee

I can’t believe it, twice in one week I think she looks fantastic! Really like this look on her.

  • StrandedFashionista

Dare I say it, I think she’s working it better than the model.

  • SpcilK

This is such a good look for her.

  • What a great dress.

  • I can’t give anybody who can’t even be assed to stand up straight a WERQ. That is reserved for Swintons and Blanchetts. I will give her a u go gurl for the cute outfit.

  • fungstyle

would some color on the lips have killed her?

  • Sara__B

She’s still the reigning princess of Awkward, but she looks very good here. I can find nothing to criticize, and she’s even smiling! My dislike of her is slowing ebbing away…

    • Melissa Brogan

I still wish she’d stand up straight at least for one pic. But snaps for smiling, girl.

  • mozzer0906

She looks fabulous.  Truly.  She is a stunning woman, but she just has to be styled properly.

  • Beardslee

GREAT dress but it always looks to me that she handles tippity cruel shoes like a mere mortal and so always looks uncomfortable from the ankles down.

  • HeyMrPhipps

I have a quibble with the shoes. Swap ’em out for some black suede boots and she’d be killing it. That said, this is a rare moment when she doesn’t look like someone just took a dump in her lunchbox–and that dress is stunning!–so I really can’t complain.

  • SheWhoMustBeObeyed

Will someone please comb her hair? Otherwise, I think she looks fierce.

  • BrooklynBomber

    Nice dress.

  • Her ass looks FANTASTIC in this dress.  For the peeps that hate on her awkwardness, that’s part of her appeal.  TLo is right…when the yin and the yang of her personality are allowed to come & out play via her clothing, that’s when she rocks it.  Part of the yang is her awkward–there’s humanity under all that.  It’s kind of like beating on Kate Winslett when she carried a few more pounds but had that more vulnerability about her. She lost the vulnerable along with the pounds. Same with KStew and the awkward.

  • clairellis

Who knew she had a smile?! Not a smirk but an actual smile. That is any woman’s best accessory! And I love the dress!

    •  The smile helps erase the inbred look.  She should have it more often.

  • totally fantastic!! AND she looks better than the model in this dress – really fills it out perfectly.

  • LuisaNL

I think she looks great but it’s a little tweedy and wintery for june, no?

  • nannypoo

I assume she’s writing “Fuck You” on that girl’s shirt.

  • janetjb

It’s the perfect look for her.

  • WERQ. Even the hair is less bed-heady.

  • Hermione_Granger

I have never seen her look better. Good job, Bella!

  • She should smile more often, the last picture is really nice.

  • understateddiva

I think of it more as a masculine/feminine continuum, put her in a tux, she’d look silly, or a Taylor Swift dress, likewise.  But a form-fitting dress with menswear fabric – perfect.  Also LOVE the big hair.

  • charlotte

Did I just see her smile?

  • BazoDee

I have an irrational dislike of her -but I love this on her.

  • 3boysful

That would be some pretty serous eyeliner for a morning show appearance, but she overall looks good.

  • Jessica O’Connell

I don’t know if this merits a WERQ… Sure the dress looks good on her (she says begrudgingly) and she doesn’t look as uncomfortable as usual, but I still hate her messy hair and i think she’d look better without the heavy eyeliner all the way across her lower lids.

  • Good for her. She’s looking positively unslouchy!Hardly a trace of her usual teenage weltshmerz and general schlumpfiness. Kristen always brings out my 1950s-era maternal instincts: “Stand up straight, dear. You’d be so pretty if you’d just smile. Keep your shoes off of the furniture; this is ‘The Tonight Show’!…”

  • granddelusion

She just can’t work the shoes. Which is completely understandable, because they are cruel.

  • butterflysunita

This is an IN but not a WERQ.  The dress is awesome.  But that hair and makeup?

  • Great dress.  Her hair looks really good, too.

  • DaveUWSNYC

This dress makes me think of Laura’s great finale look from Season 3 of PR…love those colors together (my dad had those colors on his 2-tone ’56 Rocket 88)

  • Kolo_Ol

seriously, she actually looks good, comfortable and happy

  • saanrio

She looks nice, I’ll give it that…. but I don’t know that I personally would have given it a WERQ.  Mind you, it is a far cry from her normal looks, and she doesn’t look hung over, which is a huge plus, but… “eh, whatever,” is my reaction to her in general.  This didn’t get much above that.

  • I’m not a Twihard, but I do like Kristen Stewart, and she looks great here. I covet that dress.

  • CarolinLA

LOVE the skirt from the back.

  • aimee_parrott

She looks great.  Happy, as pointed out below.  I this she’s really quite beautiful when she smiles.

  • Judy_J

I’ve said it before (once) and I’ll say it again…she looks so much prettier when she smiles!  The sourpuss face she usually gives is downright unappealing and makes her look like the “before” on a Pristiq ad.  This dress is perfect for her, too.  Hair is a bit messy for my taste, but its a minor quibble.

  • 2ndhandchic

I don’t know how she and Angelina Jolie maintain the no-part hair. My hair parts in the middle no matter how hard I try to fight it. I guess a personal hairstylist probably helps.

  • So I haaaaaaaaate her, truly, but she has been dressing really well lately? Like I have seen her at least twice in the last few weeks and had….positive thoughts. Never say never, I guess!

  • cleep1000

Meh. The dress takes on a whole different vibe with the gloves and boots on the model. Obvs. K-stew couldn’t go that route for this kind of appearance, but without them, it’s pretty boring.

  • Love the outfit, but Ms. K, I promise no one will kick you in the poonanny, so please uncover your crotch, throw those shoulders back and give the girls some room to breathe.

  • That is SO her dress, isn’t it? You’ll never defeat her fans, TLo, she is apparently always supersweet with them (they must love her bitch-face) and thus can wield them like an army at her bidding.

  • Candigirl1968

I don’t know if I’d give this a WERQ (did she chew all of her lipstick off?!?), but this dress really does work for Ms. Stewart.  Perhaps she might want to try more Narciso Rodriguez in the future.

  • Looks better on her than it does on the model.

  • Lina_bee

STYLIST WIN!!  Srsly, her stylist should put Narciso on speed dial. They have found her look! o/

  • Ksagun13

Not a Kstew fan, but she looks great — especially when she’s smiling!  If she did it more often I think I might actually start liking her.

  • That dress is killer. I don’t even mind the excess eyeliner on her lower lids, a look I usually hate.

  • Completely agree. Love that chartreuse color.

  • PeaceBang

    Absolutely!! Snaps up, indeed!

  • Alexandra Pimenta

I try to be a fair person. I have to say the girl is definitely growing socially (and becoming more and more fashion savvy) throughout the years….  But I did get curious about the “laughter” inquiry and googled it… lol  Iactually found it! o/

      For doubters:

  • She does indeed look fantastic in this dress.

  • marilyn

She could use some makeup.  She looks a littl hung over.  I was good with the dress until I saw the back.  Why the green panel on a great dress?  Why mess with it?

    • Lisa_Cop

Narciso is the god ( or one of the better ones) at color blocking.

  • luluransom

LOVE. Love love love. Plus, the shoes.

  • RKaede1x1

Is it just me or does she look like she may have gained a little bit of weight (in the healthy way of course)? Hence, making her face seems less gaunt and haunted, hence, healthier glow?… maybe? Either that or we’re just not used to her smiling.

  • CMS

I love this dress, and I especially love the green at the back – would never have guessed that was there.

  • Lisa_Cop

Not my fav Narciso dress (I wear lots of his dresses) but I like the shoes and most of all, the smile! Thumbs up:)

  • Tamara Hogan

My guess? KStew is a massive introvert and finds red carpets and crowds fair-to-partly excruciating.

    That dress is FABOO.

  • This is the first time I’ve ever seen a picture of KStew when everything — hair, clothes, shoes, makeup, comfort in her own body — all worked together in a flattering way. Big ups.

  • She’s totally working the dress, but I find her so meh.

  • elzatelzabelz

I have to agree. This is the best she’s ever looked. Ever. And, finally, some pleasant facial expressions. Huzzah.

  • A little heavy on the eyeliner but otherwise flawless for once

  • lrhoff

Not lovin’ it…..oh well.  What’s done is done.

  • quiltrx

I really like that dress.  Suits her to a T.

  • ccm800

    she is a gorgeous child.

  • Cautia

    “We fear no fangurl.”

Heh. ‘Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Tumblr, I shall fear no fangirl…’

  • Rrroza

Finally fabulous! So happy to see this, and that photo spread w/CT the other day. (For me, it’s about The Runaways; I overlook the silly Twilight; and I’m a vampire genre fan.)

  • This is unusual.

  • Tom Sprick

  • greyhoundgirl

  • CatherineRhodes

I love the length on her. She looks like she can sit for an interview without feeling self-conscious.

  • guest2visits

That’s a dress I love from the front; but the large chartreuse panel where you sit, takes away from it.  She looks wonderful.

  • pugluv

I really can’t stand her…flipping the bird at a photocall in Cannes says everything I want to know about her…but I love the dress.

  • Lilak

Victory is yours, TLo!  This may be the first post I’ve agreed with absolutely 100%, right down to the punctuation.
Perhaps I’ve achieved full Minion status at last!

  • malvernite

a few months ago i read a comment on a british board that said kristen was a truly gorgeous woman if you looked closely at her face. i looked and agreed and still do. she carries her beauty in her face, not her body. it’s funny, she’s like rihanna in the sense that she has features that separately seem problematic (e.g., rihanna’s big forehead, kristen’s large chin), but everything put together turns out attractive.

another comment i read on this site i thought was insightful is that kristen does androgyny well. of course, with her lean body. she looks great in this narciso rodriguez – suits her physique. i’d love to see her in pant suits a la dietrich (especially after seeing that photo shoot with charlize), but i think kristen has a lot more maturing to do in terms of getting comfortable with her celebrity before she can go the suit distance.

  • She gets a WERQ for simply not looking actively strung out/hung over.

  • Allison Woods

Yeah she looks great (whoever she is) in that dress…..oh wait! Now I see her from the back and it’s a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT dress. Never mind.

  • Neverbuynewclothes

Coulda used a gold cuff with this for a little pretty with the bold.

  • I just want her to get a new hairstylist.  I love her too much to see her go out like this.

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Meh.  I wish she could smile for once.  She always looks like she is in pain.

  • it’s a nice dress but her hair looks messed up and she doesn’t look comfortable at all.

  • RzYoung

Yes, this is perfect for her. I’d like to see her with her hair in a topknot though, that would look cool i think.

  • lilazander

Ihate the whore make up. The dress is great.

  • Sarah Michaels

I hate her but I have to admit she looks fabulous.
