Selena Gomez in Emilio Pucci

Posted on June 27, 2012

This is cute. Maybe it doesn’t set the world on fire with its awesomeness, but still; cute.

Selena Gomez attends the premiere of “Katy Perry: Part of Me” in Los Angeles in an Emilio Pucci electric pink paillette sleeveless dress with feather applique and lace trim from the Spring/Summer 2012 collection paired with Jimmy Choo sandals.

Jimmy Choo Sandal

Very sweet and sexy, with an up-to-the-minute style to it. Those Choos are fabulous.

BUT. And you knew there was one…

Man, do we not like the makeup here. Unlike, say Kristen Stewart, whose face can easily handle ten pounds of makeup, we’re thinking Selena doesn’t really benefit from a heavy makeup brush. This semi-drag face doesn’t suit her at all and the winged eyes make her face look puffy. Also: cocker spaniel hair. Please let it die, stylists. It’s kind of a shame. She looks fresh and cute from the neck down but she looks a little beat from the neck up. We think she’s better off with fairly clean makeup.

That lighter brown shade of hair isn’t flattering her a whole lot, either.

    • Introspective

Im bored by this look and also find it unflattering. the dress gives her no curves, the makeup is cray, and I hate that she’s succumbed to the hollywood mantra that longer and lighter hair is best. short dark hair works for your skin and features. stick with it hon.

      • LesYeuxHiboux

I agree on the dark hair score, but with her round face short hair would leave her looking like a pumpkin on a stick.

    • http://promiscuouslola.blogspot.com/ Cate

Just coming here to say that. That shade does her no favours. I totally understand wanting to experiment, but pick a better colour.

    • Jecca2244

YES. now she is demi lovato mixed with lana del ray.

    • http://twitter.com/emilyf007 emily

couldn’t agree more. the hair color does not work on her at all.

  • Sobaika

Hair is a mess. She looks much better in her natural color and without all the ratty extensions.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

That was my only nit – she looks swollen.  Not sure make up – even too heavy – is the cause of that.  More like “up all night crying and giving you my brave face”??

    • http://twitter.com/BMoke28 Bernadette Moke

She looked like that in TLo’s last post about her… what’s up with that?!

      • LesYeuxHiboux

She’s about the right age to have her wisdom teeth out…

  • FlamingJune1967

Glad you explained the whole makeup thing because I couldn’t figure out why her body looked slammin’ while her face looked like she had gained 20 lbs!

  • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

And boy howdy, does she ever not convince me she’s loving being there. You can even see it in her eyes when she’s smiling.  Rather be in her sweats, eating Ben and Jerry’s.

      Wait, that’s me!

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Lemme grab a pint and I’ll join you.

        • ballerinawithagun

          Coffee Heath Bar!

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Cherry Garcia for me, please.  And one pint for each person, cause, as you should know, if you can pick it up with one hand, its a single serving.

          • Pennymac

Thanks for the new serving definition! I love it. It fits right in with the truism that if you steal it from someone elses plate, the calories stay with them and not you. AND, if you break a cookie in half before you eat it, all of the calories leak out.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Love the way you think. How about this? Chocolate comes from a bean, which makes it a legume, which means chocolate is a vegetable, and therefor, good for you. Also, sugar comes from a large leafy green plant,so it too, is a vegetable.

          • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jaymeglynn

You just became my new dietician.

          • TheOriginalLulu

Also, anything after midnight doesn’t count. :)

          • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Don’t forget that anything you eat standing up over the sink doesn’t count either.

          • http://www.GiftedCollector.com Nancy Abrams

Samples at Costco, eaten while walking, do not count either.

          • Pennymac

Of course not, Walking is exercise.

          • littlemac8

OMG!  I just discovered this flavor and now you’re making me crave a pint (and I don’t mean beer)!!

          • CozyCat

            Oh, yes!!!

    • theblondette

Now you say that… Her attempt at a brave smile make me think of how I look when I have to be Out There Doing Stuff when I have my period. Having to dress up when on the rag is the worst! Not that I want to guess about her menstrual cycles, but just thinking about how many ladies on the red carpet must wish they were at home with a hot water bottle and icecream.

      • kittenwithaquip

Disney probably has her on such a restricted diet that she no longer menstruates. Same with Nickelodeon and Miranda Cosgrove. Those poor little girls have such big heads and tiny little bodies. Add in all of that hair and it’s a wonder that they can totter on those high heels without falling over.

  • http://twitter.com/sebwfu Shannon Beamer

Spot on, boys.  That lipstick is garish and the eye makeup is not good either.  Also, I don’t like the lighter hair on her.  She really is truly adorable with her naturally dark (shorter) hair.

    • Rokesmiths

Yup, lipstick bad, so very very bad.

  • Susan Crawford

I dunno – I love the color of the dress on Selena’s olive-toned skin, but somehow the feather trim looks raggedy to me. Maybe when she moves, the dress is better, but in still shots it looks a little like she had a little tussle with a shredder. Totally agree about the hair and make-up.

She is a teensy-weensy little thing, and seems completely overwhelmed by all that floppy hair, and why so much make-up on a cute little face? You’re young, kiddo – celebrate it now!

  • call_me_schmeg

    snnnnnnnnnnzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • RzYoung

I mean this in the nicest way – I think – but man, I’m so SO glad I’m not a chubby-cheeked teenager any more. Man, I had cheeks until my late 20s and I hated it.

  • BazoDee

OH WOW her makeup is a hot mess! She normally looks so well put together make-up wise. I wonder what happened.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=589049560 Jill Satterfield

Looks like really bad extensions. Love the dress and Jimmy Choos.

  • hmariec19

Awww the poor thing looks like she just had her wisdom teeth out.  Which, given her age, isn’t totally outside the realm of possibilities.

  • SapphoPoet

Cute dress. Agree that there’s too much makeup and I don’t care for that bubble gum lipstick.

  • julnyes

That is not her hair color and the make-up is atrocious. She is young and attractive – why are they futzing it up?
On the positive side – the shoes are great.

    • EditKitten

      The shoes are utterly fabulous!

  • Judy_J

Agreed.  Dress and shoes—fabulous.  Hair and makeup, not so much.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

That makeup has to go. I don’t mind the hair so much, but it’s not the best. What a shame, the dress and shoes are terrific.

  • KSpence

Uh oh. Is she on her way to blonde?

  • guest2visits

I’m ok with the hair, and even the lip color (though it seems pretty thick) for this tiny outfit.
I wish that the dress fit just a little better – it needs to be a like an inch higher on her chest – otherwise very cute.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

That looks like an ice skating costume.  Those shoes are to die for.  I think she is naturally so pretty that if her make up is too heavy she looks plastic.

    • Lilak

Re ‘naturally so pretty’ vs. heavy makeup:  Oh my yes. I reckon it applies to a fair percentage of Hollywood ladies – way beyond the soap actress cohort – and we could probably say the same of the civilian population, eh?
It’s especially sad to see among the young . . . oh girls, please see yourselves as you truly, wonderfully are.

  • TheOriginalLulu

Agreed on the hair and makeup. It’s a shame because that dress is so adorable on her and I would trip an old lady for those shoes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1269174303 Viet Do

Yeah she’s a bit too shiny.  She has a gorgeous face but I’m sure they wanted Vegas make-up to match her Vegas dress and shoes.

  • nannypoo

That lipstick color is truly awful on her.

  • MightyMarshal

Woooooow. Hair and makeup are BAD. Her hair looks awful in that color, especially with that day glow tan. The makeup makes it appear as if she was just attacked by a swarm of bees.

  • l3icest3r

    Cute dress! Cute shoes!

    Hair and makeup are O_o.

  • ballerinawithagun

Too much hair, fabulous dress & shoes! I hope it is dental work, allergies or crying, otherwise someone talked her into Botox already…

  • Lilithcat

At her age, I don’t expect (or necessarily want) “awesomeness”.  Cute is good.

But that lipstick has got to go.

  • Marian Humin

I love it all. She’s so cute and always looks age appropriate.

  • Lina_bee

This is great from the neck down. Perfect summer look for her age group. But everything you said about her face & hair is spot-on, i.e. NONE of it is working.

  • http://twitter.com/siao siao

I spy a heavy layer of fake tan…

  • jennifervney

Yowza, that is some unflattering make up and horrifying extensions!!

  • SophieCollier

I love those shoes.  The dress is cute indeed.  I think she needs a new hairstyle.  This is Miley Cyrus’ hair and I’m pretty sure no one wants that association.  Selena would look way cuter with a bob and her natural hair color.

  • Saucysusan

The dress looks like a pinata. The makeup is tragic. The hair is too much. Why would she want to look like that?

  • Snailstsichr

She is approaching unrecognizable with this makeup, but the dress is adorable.

  • PinkLemon

this is not the getup of a pop star. and I CAN’T with the hair. GAWD.

  • afabulous50

She looks uncomfortable – like she’s trying to keep from flying away.  And yes, she does need to get all the gunk off her face – she’s no Paz de la Huerta!

  • MilaXX

I like the look mostly but it looks like she got a bit of sun and the makeup artist went overboard trying to compensate for that.  I actually like the hair color. It’s fine for summer hair. (Do any other BK’s change their hair for the summer?) I’m not crazy about the style though.

  • littlemac8

That is terrible makeup but I knew TLo were going to comment on that.  They have trained the bitter kittens well.

  • http://twitter.com/katshimmers Kat Wright

I find her face disturbing. Her face is disturbed. Same same.

  • http://www.facebook.com/samuel.j.donovan Samuel Joesph Donovan

I was going to say, the whole head issue was screwing up this cute dress for me.

  • Sara__B

I’m not liking her make up, lighter hair color, or cocker spaniel ‘do. The rest is cute and summery and fun.

  • MRC210

Those shoes.  I would wear them everywhere, even to bed.

  • Pennymac

Young and cute and I adore the shoes. I think she’d look really good in a shorter hairstyle, though.

  • Toto Maya

I preferred her old hair, she looked so cute. The current shade doesn’t do anything for her, it just makes her look so generic.

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Love the dress and shoes but totally agree about the make-up. She doesn’t need it.

    • CassieLee22

also the hair, so not necessary

  • AthenaJ

Oh look! A living Bratz doll!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

What is happening to her?! Whoever needs to stop whatever they are doing with the hair dye and tan in a can.  That dress is a cute idea but it’s not doing her actual figure any favors, I like the sandals alone but with everything else she’s veering into Real Housewives territory. Turn back, Selena! Turn back, before it’s too late!

ETA: I just figured it out! She (or someone) is trying to do a variation on late-nineties J. Lo. Selena, you are not J. Lo.

a refugee from the project runway party supply store challenge.

  • Amy Ellinger

Neck down is summery youthful adorable.  Neck up is South Beach drag gone wrong. Embrace the dark hair, selena, and stick to glossy natural lips! It’s okay to just be a pretty girl!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

This is a cute outfit, although her toes don’t look particularly thrilled to be in those Choos.

What makes her look even more adorable (from the neck down, as duly noted by the BKs) is that there’s no Bieber Person velcro-ed to her side.

  • janetjb

I don’t think any of it flatters her; she’s so much prettier than this.

  • http://blue-again.myopenid.com/ blue

I don’t want to pigeonhole her, but without her black locks, she looks totally generic. Maybe she appreciates be less recognizable.

  • YoungSally

When I was twelve (or whatever age she is) I thought a lot of makeup looked just natural…then again it was the early 80s.

  • Ellie Rowe

Does she have freakishly long toes or are her shoes just the wrong size? Having a hard time figuring out why the balls of her feet are  wayyyy too high up the shoe.

  • http://twitter.com/flo_whytingale Florence Whytingale

I can’t even SEE the dress for all that make up and fake tan. Just horrible. Those Choo sandals however, as ubiquitous as they are at the moment, look swell.

  • ThaliaMenninger

The lipstick and the dress are the wrong color for her. It makes her look even trashier than the pounds of makeup and the spray tan did. So she’s out by a mile for me.

  • TieDye64

The dress is very cute on her and it’s a great color, and I’m digging the shoes. Yay. Hair and face? Meh.

  • sagecreek

Nailed it, unks. That color of lipstick? Bad misstep.
