Marion Cotillard for WSJ Magazine

Posted on June 28, 2012

Mlle. Marion is serving up ATTITUDE and FACE.

Marion Cotillard is featured in the July/August 2012 issue of WSJ magazine photographed by Josh Onlins and styled by David Vandewal.

Gucci Fall 2012 Collection

Balenciga Fall 2012 Collection

Bottega Veneta Fall 2012 Collection

Thakoon Fall 2012 Collection

Jil Sander Fall 2012 Collection

Bottega Veneta Fall 2012 Collection

And we’re loving it. Also: KILLA clothes. She looks amazing in that Bottega Veneta dress, even if it does look like they slapped a couple of men’s gloves on her.

The clothes are fab, but the cover photo makes me think chic zombie apocalypse.

      • ccinnc

Addicted to Love + Kristen Stewart are fighting in my head.

        • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

I was absolutely seeing Kristen Stewart here. I think she may have worn the Balenciaga.

          • http://shrt.st/2f9i Jennifer C. Cash

you finally get her out of Dior she can work a more varied/interesting/hard look...DemoforFrank.blogspot.com

          • AudreysMom

This is what the kiss asses at Vogue were telling KStew she looked like in her layout in Paris. Hah! So out of her league.

          • http://ufil.ms/bK6Pk Patricia J. Dubois

Just wish she’d pull her shoulders back once in awhile...FoxGetPositionWork.blogspot.com

      • littlemac8

OR vampira; however, this is way too chic for Bon Temps!

      • duneboi32

She looks like a dark-haired Lena Olin in that pix

      • ChaquitaPhilly

        and that’s bad…?
        Ooooo…Zombie Apocalypse!

    • http://twitter.com/Moondragonic Charlotte

She’s such a stunningly gorgeous woman.

    • RebeccaKW

These are fierce, but I hate that Balenciaga.

      • pugluv

But that Balenciaga looks better than the similar combo that KStew wore to the Met Gala…but I agree it is pretty wretched

        • MilaXX

Agreed. KStew’s version was styled much too casually.

    • EveEve

The black and white Thakoon photo is a classic.  Just wish she’d pull her shoulders back once in awhile.

    • crash1212

Fierce. And I want that red coat….NOW.

    • TheOriginalLulu

She looks gorgeous. Love the bold lip.
J’adore the Thakoon dress and the Bottega Veneta with the gloves and the shrug.

    • Deac82

When you finally get her out of Dior she can work a more varied/interesting/hard look.

    • Lina_bee

      I love the Thakoon!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/XX3UUXUSBZGZQ4MKNADAMYTADE Mrs

Wow wow wow those Bottega Venetta dresses are wonderful.

    • MilaXX

I think that first pic is the look Emma Stone was trying (unsuccessfully) to give. Love all of these looks and especially appreciate someone who can give more than one face in an editorial.

    • kimmeister

She is completely unrecognizable here, except for in the black and white photo.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

      Kah Ruhm Bah!

    • Stefanos Mantyla

Is the cover supposed to look pixelated like that? Especially in the hairline and the arms? I refreshed my browser to make sure the pictured loaded and settled properly.

Other than that, great editorial. Lovely clothes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

Ew, the first couple look like Kristen Stewart. The last two are amazing. The clothes are awesome throughout.

    • Jessi03

      She looks AMAZING!

    • Le_Sigh

WANT THOSE GLOVES.  And am now thinking of getting a blood-plum lip myself.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=4501978 Martha Jackson Deutsch

don’t much care for the hair and makeup, but she is beautiful and sexy nonetheless.

    • AuntieAnonny

The photography is pretty “meh” but those are some amazing dresses. The Thakoon one photographs especially well.

    • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

Look at the Model in the Balenciaga and look at Marion… she’s working the shit out of that dress in ways the pro doesn’t even begin to grasp.

      • littlemac8

I love the top line of the bodice – I keep thinking CATWOMAN and I want to draw whiskers on her chest!

    • mjude

      wow…LOVE

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

      FEROCITY.

I need that black dress/red coat combo so badly it hurts.

    • Saucysusan

I love the contrast of pale skin with the dark lip color. Very dramatic & suits the dresses so well. Love the Jil Sander coat.

    • kelsita421

love her, think she’s beautiful, but really not diggin’ the hair.

    • nannypoo

I love what she’s doing for these clothes, but I think she’s even more beautiful when she’s photographed with her own, softer, styling.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

The Thakoon looks like an antique chair I have.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

She has such an incredible face. Love her in the Thakoon.

    • vanjar

The Jil Sander collection is amazing, with super gorgeous coats. If I had serious money, I would buy the whole collection. The Thakoon dress Marion is wearing looks interesting, would love to see the whole dress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=622570407 Alyssa Ball

She looks like the girl from Grey’s Anatomy in the first picture. I had to do a double take to make sure it was definitely Marion. Not sure I love it.

    • marilyn

The Balenciaga is just an ugly dress.  A Mondo creation on a bad day.  Nothing attractive, artistic or interesting about it.  Just 3 different fabrics slapped together.

    • CynthiaNOLA

She looks better than the models in every single garment.

      • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

She’s about even with the Bottega Veneta girl, because they both did the sepulchral wine lip. I don’t get that Thakoon dress; who wants their torso to look like a caned chair?

      • NurseEllen

Maybe it’s because she’s not stick thin?  For the most part I think clothes are worn better by someone with a more human frame to hang them on.  (Bad sentence composition but you get the idea.)  Agree she does a great job.

    • golspie

Beautifully done – she wears the threads as well as a professional model.

    • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

Thakoon gets props for designing a cafe chair? BUT I love that the pic isn’t photoshopped to hell and gone.

    • Clueless_Jock

Wow I didn’t realize that WSJ covered fashion.

    • http://victoriapavlova.com Victoria Pavlova

OUCH. She’s UNDEAD on the cover.

    • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

      Love that Thakoon dress.

    • Pants_are_a_must

That’s it, we’re all doomed to wear super dark lipstick and look ridiculous this fall. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Marion Cotillard, and she is OOZING attitude in here, but even on her it’s slightly ridiculous.

    • NurseEllen

Every one of these is a stunner.  She is really working every shot, and that Thakoon ensemble is a stunner.  Wish I could see more of the bracelet.  Gloves………might they come back?  What fun if they did!

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

Is that the same Gucci that Emma Stone wore to the Spider-Man premiere. I like it!

    • http://twitter.com/MajorBedhead MajorBedhead

What is it with women posing or being posed with the rolled or hunched shoulders? It’s not flattering at all. She looks like she got caught in the middle of doing the Chicken Dance in that Balenciaga dress.

      • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

I call that the “model crunch”  ;-)

    • loverungay

She looks better than the models in every piece.  I do agree that those gloves look like they’re from menswear.

    • guest2visits

Yes, that BV dress with the tattery boa is gorgeous on both Marion and the model. She’s beautiful in everything here.
The Balenciaga dress is kind of hideous, but she makes it look good in this pic.
(I think I love that Jil Sander shoe)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

      She certainly owns the camera!

Why does Gucci want us to love fungus dresses this year?

    • formerlyAnon

Having little opportunity in my life to wear such dramatic dresses, my lust fixed on that red coat.

Back on point, I LOVE the photo of her smiling. On some of the others her expression is so generic I find myself evaluating the makeup rather than her overall face. No chance of that on this one.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001998855370 Fatima Siddique

Is this for Batman? Does this mean the Tom Hardy guyditorials are on the way?

      • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

I really really hope so. He’s so damn hot!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

This is a first.  ALL of the looks look better on Mlle. Cotillard than on the models in the runway show(s).  Love it.

    • unpious

Now that is the shot of fabulous I needed after a long day of drudgery. I will say though, I saw the first picture before the title/intro text really registered with my brain, and I thought “Oh no, Julianna Margulies, why did you cut off your hair??” But then literacy kicked back in and all was right with the world.

    • http://twitter.com/poptartsjen Pop Tarts Jen

The one where she’s smiling! Oh man, she’s just so gorgeous! I love all of the photos, but that’s my favorite!

    • kikisayshi

I am loving that Balenciaga ensemble on her!

    • quiltrx

Is she wearing her hair like this now, or is this just for the editorial?  Because I kind of love it…has a certain Annie Lennox fierceness.

And I kind of love that ‘rattan’ dress.

    • gabbilevy

This look isn’t normally in Marion’s wheelhouse, but she’s knocking it out of the park (apologies for the mixed metaphors!). Take notes, Kristen Stewart. I think the Thakoon is my favorite.

    • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

That dark lipstick looks fab on her! I love the third look with the leather gloves and clutch. Fierce as hell!

    • l3icest3r

Love the Bottega Venetas. Maybe one of them will show up on the red carpet this fall.

    • RzYoung

      That red coat is heaven!

    • greyhoundgirl

And what a face it is!

    • bluefish

She looks god-awful in most all of these.  LOVE the red Jill S. car coat.  Gorgeous.

    • ccm800

French beauty, you’re doing it right.
