L’Wren Scott Resort 2013 Collection

Posted on June 15, 2012

For her very first resort collection ever, L’Wren Scott offered up a surprisingly retro bunch of looks, that were nonetheless crazy-colorful and cheeky-fun. Entitled “Propaganda,” there’s an irreverent feel throughout the collection even as it sends a message, as seen on one of the prints: “Liberty. Love. Life. Laugh.” Well, all right, then. Sounds like a plan to us. These looks are wild, fun, sexy, and chic as hell. For a first-time resort collection, it’s a home run.

Seriously, when I lose the next 50lbs, I want each and every item.

      • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

me too – don’t you love a little bit of motivation?! great lines, great fabrics… yeah I want one of everything!

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Lucía-Gavello/1253586868 Lucía Gavello

I agree! Either that or I wrap myself in shapewear like a human sausage ;)

    • norseofcourse

Costume-y styling but wearable for actual human beings.
I thought the little hats on the first dress were cheeseburgers, though. Had to look hard to figure that one out.

      • quiltrx

I thought they were hot dogs at first, so don’t feel awkward!!

      • MK03

        I thought they were macarons.

      • MoHub

“I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and French-fried potato, big kosher pickle and a cool draft beer; Good God Almighty, which way do I steer?”

Jimmy Buffett: Please don’t sue me!

        • amywinns

Just a hunch: Not a lot of litigious Parrotheads reading this.

    • Lina_bee

Whoa. I love the shape of EVERY SINGLE PIECE. Not sure about some of those prints, but I can’t deny that they’re completely fun. Now if only they’d make some PANTS.

    • http://twitter.com/urban_gypsy Tess Danesi

If I had the body and the money this is something I’d so buy. It’s the first resort collection that I’ve seen that really has that “resort” feel to it. So happy, colorful, and sexy. Great stuff.

    • suzq

GOR-GEOUS.  Brava!  Finally, I resort I wish to visit!

    • Rebecca Johnson

I love L’Wren Scott’s looks. I think the shiny fabrics look a little cheap, but otherwise this collection rocks.

      • aesteve212

I thought that about the shiny – and that it won’t drape well if you have a real-person body! But I LOVE the silhouettes and patterns!

      • MissAnnieRN

I was thinking along the same lines – that the satin would show each and every chunk of cellulite. And it certainly wouldn’t travel well. I do love the aesthetic here though.

    • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

Has Kenley gone to work for L’Wren?

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

My first thought was that Kenley would love this collection.

        • MoHub

           Kenley might steal this collection.

      • MoHub

I also think Emily on the current edition of Food Network Star would wear every one of these pieces.

      • ballerinawithagun

        You are so right!

    • Lilithcat

Fabulous.  She knocked it out of the park.

    • AlexisPayne

Very pretty, but they may read too shiny on the red carpet

    • Kyle Crawford

wow! TWISTER DRESS, TWISTER DRESS, TWISTER DRESS!!!  all of this is just lovely. We NEED HRH Cate in that UJ dress! either color

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cortney-Dean/100002491593625 Cortney Dean

can I have one of everything? no, make that 2 of everything so I can wear these forever! Fantastic.

    • hughman

Now this is a resort I want to go to… Cannes, Monte Carlo, the French Riviera.

      How fun and pretty!

    • holdmewhileimnaked

i also love most of this, & most of that most of this i love a lot. [lets see if i can put this properly] it’s kind of like if she is currently doing a version of the early 90s doing a version of the early 70s doing its version of the 40s. of course, while a whole lot of somebodies in the early 90s did versions of the early 70s, not to mention the late 60s, if i remember correctly nobody in the early 90s did the specific 70s does 40s trope that i always loved so well. but this looks like what that mightve looked like if anybody had. i think. particularly if they were reinterpreting the pop end of all of it [mr freedom, kansai yamamoto, etc & ect].

      hope it helps!

      • Qitkat

40s, that was my take too. Particularly trying to imagine my mom in a few of these, as that was her time as a lovely young woman.

      • lovelyivy

Agreed on the fresh look at the 40’s feel- the hats, skirts and shoes in particular. All of the silhouettes read very 40’s, but with a 90’s sense of color and the shiny 70’s fabrics. Good call!

    • MilaXX

I’m surprised at how much I love this collection since I normally find her stuff to be a bit stuffy. This is bright and cherry. I like it a lot.

    • MzzPants

      I LURV the hats!!

    • http://twitter.com/ZumaZoum Eric

The model in the second photo looks like Eva Green and Jemima Kirke’s model offspring.

    • formerlyAnon

I love most of these, though I rarely wear anything in a shiny, colorful pattern.

ETA: and has been commented on already, this really feels “resort” to me – the kind in my imagination, where glamorous denizens of the Big City doff their dark wardrobes and embark for semi-tropical climes with suitcases full of fun color and visions of rum drinks floating in their heads.

      • fursa_saida

Now that you’ve put it that way, I can totally see these as costumes from a movie musical.

    • unbornfawn

Fun! Way too much novelty print for an ordinary person to wear in one outfit. A piece or two here and there would liven up a girl’s wardrobe on a summer’s day.

    • http://twitter.com/delysia_lafosse Delysia LaFosse

HIGHLY covetable. I love the colors and prints.

    • kimmeister

      What fun prints!
I would wear just about everything but the shoes (although not necessarily in the combinations pictured).  I especially love the yellow print blouse with the teal skirt.

    • http://twitter.com/BeBeWhy Robbyn Hopewell

I don’t know you guys…when I think Resort, I think warm weather. Why are so many of the pieces shiny? It just makes them look heavy to me. OMG, I can just see the pit stains now.

    • Pennymac

How fun! I love it all. I wouldn’t wear any of it, because, well, SHINY!!! But the dresses and the prints are fun to look at!

    • TieDye64

Wow, do I love this. So feminine and flirty. Want it all.

    • quiltrx

Love it!  Really fun and flirty.  Makes me want to get really serious about losing this weight so I can wear that lavender ensemble!

    • guest2visits

Alot of the dresses are simple and attractive forms that I would like better with less shine, and more sedate prints.
These are still enjoyable and fun looking. Especially like: 4+5, 8+9.

    • kikisayshi

I would love to own and wear the shit out of all of these. Those shoes are darling.

    • TSkot

Love!  Makes me think this is what Marc Jacobs was going for, but failed so miserably.

    • jmorino08

      Those prints are fantastic!!

    • http://twitter.com/Eovaai Eovaai

I’d buy every single one of these pieces.

    • AuntieAnonny

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

Why do I keep imagining Michele Obama in most of these dresses?  Very cool!

    • LambeeBaby

Outstanding. The colors and prints are great. Especially love the skirt, blouse, cardigan combos.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Fabulous! I love the shoes, the silhouettes, and that hat print. Someone please buy me the bomber-patterned cardigan for my birthday next week?

    • emily mcginnis

i wish i had the body and the budget for this!

    • http://www.facebook.com/izzzyy Dixie Murphy Ross

Usually hate most resort wear collections, but I LOVE this!

    • Verascity

I don’t love the shiny, but I love basically everything else about this.

    • Jasmaree

Guess I’m the only one who doesn’t like this. :(

The super-repetitive prints rendered in bright colors and shiny fabrics just read “cheap” to me. And the matchy styling isn’t helping either. If I saw some of these garments in a thrift store, I’d pass them by.

    • Judih1

I like her clothes and I like her more because she used a model of color.

    • Vainte

Love the colors, number 2 screams ‘look at me’ in a delightful way. Always nice to see a collection where nothing makes me wince.

    • http://korilian.livejournal.com/ korilian

Quite a few dresses I would wear the hell out off (though I would shorten the hemline, because over the knees does nothing for me).

    • royfrank3434

Character is the foundation stone upon which one
must build to win respect. Just as no worthy building can be erected on a
weak foundation, so no lasting reputation worthy of respect can be
      built on a weak character.

    • allisankelly

      I love it all.

    • Monabel

See how elegant and alluring those skirt lengths are?

    • fursa_saida

Give me the hats and the cardigans and I will leave here a happy woman.

    • LinXGUA

Well, i like the color. There are some great combinations. But why do i see this collection so bland and ugly? Almost trashy.

    • RedRaven617

So much fun! Love the ketchup and mustard colors on 2nd photo.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-Charlotte-Siewierkiewicz/503556621 Jessica Charlotte Siewierkiewi

The print with the hats/caps look like those we wear when we finish our gymnasium (high school/college I really don’t know the equivalent, but circa from 16 to 19).

    • spooki C

not crazy about the prints and the cuts are nothing special, still, it’s cute. that teal pencil skirt needs to get in my closet.

    • Lauren Bradshaw

Why is it so common to completely overexpose photos like this? Does it not compromise the fabric’s impact?

    • Aurumgirl

Some of these hat/dress combinations remind me of old airline ads featuring stewardesses in their odd uniforms.  Or Lavazza ads.  Love the prints and the dress shapes.

    • calimon

I kept scrolling down to see if there was actually something I didn’t love!

    • pugluv

Great collection, very little there that I would not want to wear!!!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

Without the over the top styling and pairing, there are some adorable pieces and lines here. Love. Want.

    • marilyn

This is a good collection.  She has gone retro 40’s with the style, and is modern with the prints.  The effect is fresh and fun.  I am not crazy about the hat itself, or when she mixes her busy prints.  I am hoping that is only for the runway.  I see a lot of great dresses and separate pieces for those who can afford her.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

LOVE the dresses and the pencil skirts/tops.  And I know its only for the runway, but I hate the matchy shoes and hats.  Colors and patterns are great!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RHLSUVX3NCPB4OSS5BM7GZIXUE P. Capet

    • m0r0

      Love it!

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

I love it, but I would have like to see a pair of pants or two.

    • PastryGoddess

Want want want…OMG the shoes!  Want Everything!

    • yulaffin

Just a couple of pieces where the patterns were a little too busy for my taste but otherwise, I liked the whole collection.

    • http://surelysonsy.blogspot.com/ Jessica | Surely Sonsy

    • http://twitter.com/riosramblings Michael Rios

I absolutely loved the whole collection! Granted it’s not every woman who will be able to work these looks, but some definitely can. Also, I expect at least one cheeky take on a piece like this from some fashion conscious RuPaul contestant next season.

    • LilyPad

I love the funky prints and retro styling! I wonder about all the satin though. That is one tricky fabric.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

      Love it.

    • http://twitter.com/thesquizz Lauren

LOVE THIS COLLECTION. Love everything in it.

    • Charmella

Love most of it! I can see Shelley O in several of the pieces…(without the matchy-matchy shoes and headgear though!).

    • Amy Ellinger

Fan-effing-tastic. Want the shoes, drooling over the shoes, holding my feet up to the monitor to imagine them in the shoes.

    • Scarlet39

Gorgeous!  I particularly love the shoes!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I am just in love with the prints and fabrics. In love. The colors are so fun and I hope this type of thing funnels down to the masses (me) because it is so hard to find these types of eye-catching prints. That said, what is L’Wren’s thing with the mid-calf tight skirt? I know she is super-tall and that works on her but it doeesn’t do anything for the collection. I like the other shapes much better. I need all of the dresses.

    • ballerinawithagun

Love the shoes, the colors and the tornado print! I grew up in Minnesota so tornadoes are a part of my life!

    • http://twitter.com/bubblymcclure Tracey McClure

Gorgeous.  The silhouettes are divine and the prints are to die for!  Love it!!

    • OneTwoThreeFashion

Cute, bot some pieces are a bit too shiny for my taste.

    • Sisyphus .

I love these clothes and the prints, but I wish they hadn’t been shot from that slightly upward angle and with that washed-out or reflected look.

    • snarkykitten

Resort? It looks more like what the stewardesses on the private plane taking you to the private resort would wear

    • RzYoung

I love them all, I want them all! gorgeous.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=625120374 Jessica Walsh

Love all the looks, but I wish that she’d not used so much satin – it really doesn’t travel well, and to me, being wrinkly at the resort?  well, it’s a “NO”.

other than that, everything looks lovely, and i’m DYING over the shoes.

    • http://oscarandjeeves.tumblr.com/ Miss Jen K

For the first time in my life, I can say with all honesty that I’d wear every last piece of this collection.

      Brava, L’Wren Scott. BRAVA.

    • crash1212

WANT. Every item. Well, maybe not the hats, because I’m had averse – but every other item in this collection needs to be in my closet NOW. I so love a chic dress…and the colors….and the skirts…and is that a….hamburger/hot dog print on that first look?

    • http://www.facebook.com/agatha.guilluame.7 Agatha Guilluame

It’s very, I just finished pruning my victory garden and I’ve finally gotten the penciled stocking seam on the back of my legs just right, so I can finally head over to the Vetaran’s hall for the 23rd Annual Train Conductor Ball. Or maybe that’s just me.

    • PeaceBang

Cute enough, but the loud, shiny prints in a full length dress? Assault on the eyes. They’re adorable in the 1940’s cuts, and the shoes are adorable. I see Miss Emma Stone in some of these.

    • SpcilK

Whimsical and fun, love every piece.

    • M Carlson

Holy fright, I love everything. That 40s uber-feminine look is one of my favs.

    • Kate4queen

Good lord, I actually like some of these and think they are ‘gasp’ wearable!!

    • http://twitter.com/JaniceMSmith joy peace

Not feeling this collection at all.  Too matchy, matchy.  Looks like stewardess uniforms.  .

    • Fanny Wolston

      Yup, Kenley Collins 2009…

    • Puckndc
