Katy Perry in Roland Mouret

Posted on June 25, 2012

We’ve indulged in more than our share of Katy-outfit-bashing, but this is ridiculously cute.

Katy Perry makes an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” in a Roland Mouret dress paired with Giuseppe Zanotti pumps.

Giuseppe Zanotti Double Platform Pump

Granted, it’s not exactly a sitting-down kind of outfit – she looks extremely uncomfortable in that last shot – but it’s the perfect dress for Katy Perry when Katy Perry wants to look chic.

yes she looks cute! Wonder why there’s not little cut-away on this one?

      • http://www.facebook.com/AdriannaGrezak Adrianna Grężak

to accommodate and support her bust, probably

        • j_anson

I was wondering the same thing and I think this is probably right. In which case, congrats to Katy Perry for showing uncommon wisdom on that issue?

          • http://thnlnk.com/financial-reports/TheLink/024 Mary G. Perry

the perfect mix of sexy and classy. (I can’t believe I used those words at the same time regarding Katy Perry ...DemoforFrank.blogspot.com

      • MaryMitch

Actually, I think it looks better without the cut-away. The dress is busy enough without it.

I agree with Tlo – ridiculously cute!

    • SpcilK

Super cute! I like the dress better without the cut-out in the middle.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Yeah, The runway version looks like it has too many elements in the design. Katy’s version is cleaner looking.

      TOTES adorbs.

    • http://twitter.com/cupidissimo Feathers McGraw

it looks the most like her old, candy colored 50s style that I have seen in a while! Just, more refined. Works for me!

    • EditKitten

Uncomfortable, maybe, but it still reads “Bitches, I’m hot and I know it.” Very cute — the perfect mix of sexy and classy. (I can’t believe I used those words at the same time regarding Katy Perry … )

    • JasmineAM

She needs to take more fashion tips from Miss Dita.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Ah, but the redoubtable Ms Von Teese, is all about class, 24/7.  Not Katy’s metier, or the audience she’s playing to.

        • JasmineAM

True, but I think the pin up looks flatter Katy a ton more than the other stuff she usually wears. Here she looks sexy without looking desperate.

          • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

True facts. She does look great. In fact i think she looks more delightfully real than I have seen her in ages.  I was only commenting that Dita’s sense of style is not the right fit for Katy.

      • colleenjanel

I think Katy is more bubble-gum pinup whereas DVT is more liquid sex pinup. Similar influence, but very different execution.

        • JasmineAM

I agree. This is what I meant to say, but I didn’t know how to put it. Thanks!

        • sweetestsith

I agree! She played into the bubble gum pinup a bit when she first hit the scene, and then she really found her crazy… I would love to see her play with that style more now that she has serious moolah to throw at her clothes.

    • TheOriginalLulu

      Love it.

    • http://twitter.com/luqluqe LuqeMann

Other than that, this is perfect.

    • Vaniljekjeks

I kind of love it.  And I love the hair color.  This is the first one she’s had that really suits her.

    • Lina_bee

It’s way too tight, but the shape is flattering as hell. Glad she’s back to darker hair, too, even if it is Grape Manic Panic.

    • dsco3031

LOVE this dress, wish I owned it. Hate the purple hair.

    • Judy_J

Dress looks gorgeous on her.  Glad to see she’s moved on from the blue hair.

    • SusiePamudji

I like that her version doesn’t have the cutout. Super cute and love those shoes.

    • alyce1213

Boy, is that ever her dress!

    • http://www.filmsbyneptune.com/ Dani Colman

Funny, I think it’s exactly a sitting-down kind of outfit.  If you have to wear a dress – and I fail to understand why more ladystars don’t use talk show appearances to break out a chic pair of pants, but okay – then this is just the right way to be body-conscious: fitted, long enough to keep the good china in the cupboard, with just enough of a cheeky little slit to show off the stems.  I’m actually a little astonished at the way it’s all working: I normally hate this length, but it’s perfect when she sits; that dart in the front must make the whole thing a million times more comfortable to sit in even though in almost any other colour it would be horribly vagina-adjacent, and those giant tulip appliqués give just the right pop of colour when they’re on the opposite side of the dress to the audience.

Wow.  I just wrote a paragraph on all the sartorially sound choices made by a lady who once literally wore a sequined Smurfette dress to a premiere.  What the hell planet am I on?

    • librarygrrl64

Wish she would have hiked up the hem an inch or two, but glad she closed up the peek-a-boo midriff.

      • lamamu

My thoughts exactly. The dress hits her calf in precisely the worst place for a woman.

    • Violina23

I like it way more than I want to admit. Love the punch of red from the shoes too.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=786229820 Rhonda Hanson

So glad that she dyed her hair darker — super pretty as dark purple.

    • MilaXX

Thank goodness she closed that keyhole up. It’s a cute look & even though I hate the shoes, this fits her.

    • ballerinawithagun

Now THIS is Katy’s style! No flappers, stick with this 50s look.

    • kimmeister

Katy Perry is wearing a dress that I would actually wear – that might be a first!  She looks great.

    • eight_of_nine

Aww, she’s so cute when she’s not shooting whipped cream out of her boobs!

    • BazoDee

      WOW – she looks great!

    • Deac82

This is her Dita Von Teese drag

      • formerlyAnon

    • http://twitter.com/PhDKnitter marlie

I love it! It’s perfect for her, but still classy and ladylike. I’m glad she didn’t go with the midriff-peek.

    • GillianHolroyd

Hair and makeup perfect but prefer the shorter skirt length of the model.

    • introspective

one of her best looks period. she really nailed it. and she’s giving me serious von teese here though as discussed above katy could only dream of permanently attaining that level of fab…

    • TomBord

Drag.queen.alicious. As usual.  ( isn’t it simply amazing how far little talent can take one these days? )

    • frannyprof

anyone else disturbed by the vajayjay flap in front?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1248212910 Jessie Melcher Brown

I like it, but I would have hemmed it a bit so it was more like the length on the model.  Also when will all those hideous platform shoes just go away?

    • Call me Bee

Yes.  Even though she’s at the top of my Celeb Extremely Dislike List, she looks very cute and stylish here.  I’m sure glad I missed that interview.

    • http://twitter.com/LianaBrooks Liana Brooks

Give the girl credit, she left the weird tummy cut-out out. This is a step in the right direction for her.

    • Sara__B

An almost-Dita-Von-Teese costume works for her. She looks lovely — tattoos, purple hair, satin platforms, and all.

    • Lilithcat

Props to her for getting rid of the floppy drive slot.  It improves the dress a zillion percent.  Really cute.

Don’t like the shoes, though, but apparently, when I wasn’t looking, they passed a law that celebrities have to wear platform toes.  This calls for activist judges to intervene to ban them.

    • marilyn

I am in shock.  She looks great, and she looks normal.  Wow.

    • butter nut

cute, but she’s still cartooning – it’s very Jessica Rabbit.  but i’ll take this over Smurfette.

    • http://twitter.com/Mylynka Mylynka

I’d like this more if it didn’t have the vagina curtain, but well done KP, well done.

    • Terence Ng

Didn’t like it at all unti I saw the purple hair. Sailor Mars: Flame Sniper All Up in Your Ka-Blam!

    • amywinns

Love the whole thing, but EXTRA love it for her and for this occasion. Was wondering if that would ever happen again with this girl.

    • formerlyAnon

She’s Dita-lite, but she’s looking good, here, for all that.

Shoe frames her little strawberry(?) tattoo prettily.

(That goes on the list of sentences I could never predict I’d write.)

    • granddelusion

She looks very good. The shoes are absurd.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

It’s almost (dare I say it?) JOAN WORTHY.

    • TieDye64

      Very cute indeed.

    • http://gabyrippling.tumblr.com/ Gabriella M

I kind of love that purple shade of her hair.

    • SophieCollier

If she hadn’t already been wearing it and you posted the runway picture, I’m pretty sure every other comment would have been “This is such a Katy Perry dress.”

    • quiltrx

Love it, and she’s just the girl for it.

    • Patricia Gillett

This is SO her dress. And her shoes. It’s cute. Nice to see her back to her regular hair color. As for the last pic, she may look a little stiff but it’s a relief to see a young ladystar showing good posture. Too many slumpers on the RC these days.

    • guest2visits

She actually looks put together in a cohesive way; yes it’s very matchy – but at least no strange stray bits and pieces.
Less costume; more Katy. So pretty.

    • Mexxoo

She seems like she’s going through a Dita stage.  A bit more chest support and she would be smokin!
