January Jones in Pasadena

Posted on June 20, 2012

It’s so weird to see JanJo looking so thin after seeing her in a fat suit on Mad Men for the last couple of months.

A newly-redheaded January Jones takes her baby boy Xander out for lunch in Pasadena, California.

But not as weird as seeing her with red hair. Honestly, we didn’t believe it was her when we first came across the pictures. She’s clearly just out for lunch with her cute baby, so we’ll refrain from being negative. As (very) casual outfits go, we can say this one is kinda cute, though. In a “Mommy is wearing a t-shirt and flip-flops because that’s the only way she can get out of the house” kind of way, of course.

But wow, what a transformation. We’re not sure it suits her. On the other hand, that kid can work a camera like a pro.

Aww, her little one looks just like her. She should swap hair colors with Emma Stone though.

There’s nothing worse than a rear end hugged by lycra for the world to see, no matter how toned it is. Cheap and nasty...DemoforFrank.blogspot.com

    • Judy_S

I  like the red hair. It does change her looks, and I am not a Mad Men watcher (oops) so  the shock to me is not that great. She looks very natural, with her pale complexion. Remains to be seen what happens when the whole look is polished up.

    • RebeccaKW

That kid is adorable, no matter thin you are, your butt should be covered in leggings, and the red hair is not her color.  Maybe a different red, but not this.

      • Sobaika

Truth being spoken re: butt. I’m very pro-leggings (They’re so simple! And slim! And I can eat and eat and won’t get uncomfy!) but the behind must always be covered.

        • Maddie_Faddenoid

If only everybody had your insight re: leggings. There’s nothing worse than a rear end hugged by lycra for the world to see, no matter how toned it is. Cheap and nasty.

          • NC_Meg

I was about to post the same thing. Leggings are not pants and if you’re going to wear them, make sure your butt is covered.

            • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I have to tell that to my 5 year old all the time. Hopefully by the time she is January Jones’ age, it will have sunk in.

            • tereliz

ROFL, I think it’s fine if you’re under the age of ten and wearing leggings as pants. But once you hit 11, you must cover your rear!

            • mom2ajs5

I just had this conversation with my 11 yr.old regarding jeggings. She was insisting you can wear any type of top with them, length doesn’t matter. I tried to explain that a short or too tight top with jeggings just makes them way too tight jeans. And please don’t judge her for wearing jeggings. I’m trying to break her of it!

          • Sobaika

It should be common sense. Leggings will sheer out when stretched and the public can actually SEE your BUM.   I see more lady-bum because of improper use of leggings than I care to.

Also of note: leggings =/= tights.

          • RebeccaKW

Yes!  Unless you are a ballerina who is in the act of ballet, there is no reason to not cover your butt.

        • RebeccaKW

Oh, yes, I love leggings.  I just think there is a right way and a wrong way to wear them.

Wrong way-your butt uncovered and the material stetched so far that I can see the pattern of your panties.

        • Spicytomato1

I agree. And I tend to follow that rule with workout wear, too. I’m so happy that workout t-shirts are now cut longer. Even then, I tend to wrap a long-sleeved t-shirt around my waist even if I have no intention of wearing it, as a courtesy to anyone who happens to be behind me!

      • adnama79

Let’s give her the benefit of the doubt and say there was a skirt over them, but the baby spit up or the diaper leaked on it.  Or some other baby-related clothing emergency en route.  Happened to me a million times.

    • cmb92191

I definetely agree about the red hair.  I thought it was Julia Roberts in the thumbnails.  I go from brown, to blonde to red on occasion and to me that doesn’t look red, that looks almost ORANGE!    I’m in a dark brown/red phase right now but my head is NOT orange.

      • FlamingJune1967

I have naturally red hair and this is the color it is in the sunlight.

    • Judy_J

A cute baby is the best accessory.  Not digging her red hair, though.

    • http://profiles.google.com/christine.jain Christine Clark

I feel like it’s a tad bit bitchy to do a post on a new Mom getting out of the house for a quick lunch. Yeah, she’s a celebrity and fair game and has lots of money to dress and such, but couldn’t we find a different picture of her with the red hair? This is a bit of a cheap shot.

      • ToothCake

You must have read a different post, because they were not being bitchy
at all.  They even said ‘we’ll refrain from being negative.’  And they
        complimented her….

        • AnonymousHater

I agree with Christine.  The issue is not that no negative things were said about her, this picture should never have been here at all.

          • butterflysunita

I almost wonder if she colored her hair so she’d be less recognizable and able to go out with her baby without being bothered by photographers.  Can’t say I blame her, but it didn’t work.

          • ToothCake

After reading Christine’s comment again, I totally understand that babies are on a different level.  But TLo doesn’t have a history of posting celebrity mamas with their kids and being mean towards the kids…in fact, I think they’ve adored the celebrity kids as much as the readers.  I think it’s ultimately about the fashion and they have been quite nice about the celebrity kids they have posted…

Apologies if I came off wrong…just want us all to get along in the TLo house! :o)

        • http://profiles.google.com/christine.jain Christine Clark

You must have read a different comment, because I didn’t say that what they said was bitchy; I said doing a post on it was bitchy. They easily could have waited for a picture of her with the red hair when she was dressed/not on Mom duty. What they said about the picture wasn’t bitchy, and I love that they’re always careful about stuff like this. But doing the post on this picture seems a bit off to me. She’s not dressed to be in front of cameras, she’s dressed to go to lunch with her baby.

If the subject matter of a post bothers you, the very best thing you can do to ensure that posts with similar subjects are not presented in the future is to ignore the post completely and not click on it. We’re not suggesting that you shouldn’t complain or that you’re wrong to complain but if you really don’t want to see something on the internet, stop looking at it. Hits determine the popularity of a subject matter.

            • nancylee61

I understand what you are saying, and I don’t blame you for posting pictures that were taken of celebrities, and I feel celebrities are fair game, 99% of the time. My worry is always that posts make a celebrity and her baby recognizable, and I worry about the safety of the baby. My issue is with the paparazzi taking these shots.

You are always kind and generous, even when criticizing a celebrity’s dress. Except Lea Michelle. But she deserves her “Of course.” Cracks me up every time!!!

      • lamamu

I understand your point, but where is the diaper bag that should be weighing down her right shoulder??? Most likely there is a nanny/entourage standing just outside the frame while JJ gets “randomly” papped being a mom. Oh, and the tights must go. (But how else will producers know that she lost all that baby weight?) I’m cynical today…it must be five o’clock somewhere…

        • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

          Good points.

    • sisterb67

I don’t think the hair color suits her at all. Too pinky/orangey red for her coloring.  Now, the bigger issue:  why is that baby not wearing a hat in that sun?  Unless he’s been dipped in all over broad spectrum sunscreen, cover that wee bairn up!

      • snarkykitten

I’m gonna guess she’s going from house to car to destination, not out running errands with the wee one.

      • http://twitter.com/sillytwigg twigg

I think a deeper/more brownish red might be cute on her.

    • Tigrrl

Please put a hat on that baby! She looks way more chic than I ever did with an infant in tow, just because she’s so naturally Barbie. But is that a hole I spy in her t-shirt? That’s not good Jajo, not good at all what with all your money and free clothes.

      • http://twitter.com/londonpenguin Teresa M.

That hole is making me a little bit crazy.

    • nancymae

Cute family pics but I hope the hair color is a short term fling. Leave the red hair work to Christina Hendricks.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3KCDEX4FOTCFHZP6WLKSOOKUVM Danielle

That kid should be wearing a hat in that sun.

      • anotherkate

Now now. For all we know she’s parked 50 feet from the restaurant and the kid’s total sun exposure is 30 seconds.

        • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

Thank you. Let’s refrain from judging someone’s parenting from one picture.

        • Zaftiguana

Word, I have a pasty-ass baby and I’m pretty religious about sun protection, but somebody could get that same picture of me just about every time I go to Target. The short sun exposure totally isn’t worth the hassle of wrangling the kid into a hat straight out of the car.

    • http://twitter.com/msjwatt J.Watt

Baby is too cute. Can’t wait to see who he grows up to look like so we’ll know who the baby daddy is.

      • http://twitter.com/The_Bugler Anna Daugherty

I think that’s Jason Sudeikis’s kid. Something about the eyes.

        • http://twitter.com/msjwatt J.Watt

hmm…excellent theory. I’m going with James Marsden.

      • formerlyAnon

Maybe I’m just contrary, but I wish it could be an eternal mystery, never announced and guesses never verified. Of course, in today’s world, especially since the child will eventually know, the whole world will know soon enough.

        • RebeccaKW

The 2 greatest celeb mysteries-who does Carly Simon think is ‘vain’ and who is January’s baby daddy?

          • aeg66

Well Carly was singing about Warren Beatty…

            • RebeccaKW

Really?  I didn’t know she had revealed the name, just a couple of clues.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=558631967 Ivona Foster

I like it, it certainly makes her very un-Betty like

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

she looks gorgeous as a redhead, totally natural.  would never have recognized her behind those shades.  can’t wait to see her in makeup!  but we all know, i’m a sucker for redheads.

      • Spicytomato1

I’m with you, it’s such a pretty shade and it complements her skin so nicely. It somehow makes her seem warmer as a person, too, vs. the “icy blonde” persona.

    • Sobaika

I’d be interested in seeing her in a stronger red as opposed to this carrot-y color. But I think it suits her just fine. The baby is a pro!

    • http://profiles.google.com/anplica Anplica Fiore

I thought she was Felicia Day at first.  I’d be interested to see how it looks on her without the shades & with it styled a bit more.

    • schadenfreudelicious

not crazy about that coppery red on her, cute baby, wish he had a sun hat on that adorable noggin though….

    • SapphoPoet

Flip-flops are for the beach, the pool, the locker room and nowhere else.

    • Lina_bee

That child is so, “Mommy make them STOP!”

    • TheDivineMissAnn

She doesn’t look too thrilled about having her son photographed, and frankly, I don’t blame her.

    • Rebecca Johnson

I don’t think this shade of red (salmon?) really works on her, particularly if you look at the pony tail and not just the crown of her head. It looks like cheap-o box color, which I doubt is what she was going for. Good on her for experimenting, but I would suggest covering this up lickity split.

    • pugluv

      That baby is adorable!!

    • http://twitter.com/suryasnair suryasnair

She looks like a deflated Joan Harris doll.

    • CassandraMortmain

I’ll reserve final judgment on the hair color until I see her a little more spiffed up up and styled, but it sure seems like a mistake.   Not flattering at all.  She should go back to blonde and Emma Stone should go back to red ASAP.  I understand the urge to experiment but when your living is based on looking a certain way, why muck things up?

I’m kind of in awe that she went out in a tee shirt with a hole in it.  That’s just so crazy/awesome/real.

Cute, cute baby.  Her stellar genes have been passed on to the next generation.

    • EEKstl

She’s such the archetypical Hitchcock Blonde that it’s weird seeing her in any other shade.  Adorable baby.

    • JMansm

      I like her leggings.

    • meowing

Wow, would never had recognized her without TLo’s expertise.  I do like the hair color on her, though.  And, while TV star thin, she looks like an ordinary mom in these pics.  Adorable Xander–have heard that name a lot lately, is it a new trend?

    • fungstyle

the red makes her look a bit severe to me. and also, jan, honey? in the immortal words of the fug girls, look into pants. or at least a longer tee.

    • Maddie_Faddenoid

How can she be so thin so soon after giving birth?

      • formerlyAnon

Some people just are, even if they don’t work at it.

I work with several women who’ve given birth this year – two were small before they got pregnant, didn’t gain much weight when they were pregnant (both gained a healthy amount, per their doctors) had normal weight (7+ lb) babies, and except for nursing breasts & some extra belly (and we can’t really see JJ’s midriff) look pretty much the same as ever almost immediately.

    • Wendi126

No way she’s going out to lunch with the baby without schlepping a giant bag filled with shit for him.

      • Mod_girl

Thank you!! All i can think of when I see this pic is: “Where is the baby bag? Or her purse? Or her CAR KEYS and WALLET?? Or phone, even–in LA everyone (well, everyone not on the RC) is always photographed holding a phone at all times!!!”

        • aeg66

The assistant/nanny is out of frame…guaranteed.

    • formerlyAnon

I think I like the red hair, but there’s no way to compare what she looks like out in her schlumpies in red hair with what she looks like blonde, at a big-deal event or in a magazine photo shoot. So I can’t say which I prefer.

Very happy, healthy looking baby, which is always good for a smile.

    • Terri Smith

Leggings DO NOT equal pants!  On a more positive note, that baby is ridiculously cute.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/toodleskitty79?feature=guide AWS

That kid looks nothing like her.  Quick!  Who could the daddy be?  My vote is for Michael Fassbender!

    • Megan Patterson

She is definitely a cooler tones girl, I think. Do we know who the baby’s Dad is yet? Anyone want to take guesses based on his face?

    • Sara__B

I live in the outer sticks, and this is too casual for going out to lunch even here. Yoga, maybe, but not lunch. (Unless it’s a picnic at the beach.)

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I don’t know that the color is the problem. The style is not flattering. I would love a different set of pictures!

    • Indovina

I like the outfit for the most part, as I am a fan of very casual, practical looks, but the shirt needs to be longer – it has to cover the whole of the crotch and rear for leggings to work. The t-shirt itself also appears to have a hole in it.

The hair I am unsure about as of yet. Speaking as a redhead, I find dyed red hair flattering, but, I’m sorry, it won’t confer upon her any of our obvious natural superiority.

The baby is adorable, as babies are often wont to be.

      • sweetlilvoice

I’m sorry, it won’t confer upon her any of our obvious natural superiority.

        You said it!

    • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

I want to eat her baby up. What a riot that he looks like a starlet caught off guard by the paparazzi.
I also love the haircolor; beautifully done. I am sure it is for a part and I know the sun is shining on it but it really is lovely. And there is 24 years of red hair coloring behind that comment.
But there is also 12 years of child rearing sans paid help behind the next comment: a t-shirt with a hole in it and flip-flops?  where is my chic JJ? Charlize, head over there and help her.

    • TieDye64

What an adorable little guy! Her hair? Not so much. Granted, it may be for a role, but that particular red doesn’t seem very flattering on her. But then, I wouldn’t complain if I looked as “bad” as JJ on her worst day. Ha.

    • sweetlilvoice

She looks overheated and annoyed, I can sympathize. I spent Sat. with my friend and her newborn in 90+ heat.

    • tallgirl1204

Hey, her flops match her sweater!  I remember those days, and that little bit of coordination is praise-worthy.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=2066192 Melissa Mellon

That kid’s sporting some professional-grade blue steel. Sadly, though, doctors have already determined that he can’t turn left. :(

    • http://twitter.com/tiffbirchy tiffany birch

January’s coral/neon and tan-colored zig zag cardigan reminds me of Megan’s ensemble from Mad Men, when she and Don went to Howard Johnson’s.

    • rumcg66

Nice to see that judging a woman’s mothering from afar with absolutely no information to go on is still a national pastime. That baby lives in LA and is as pale as milk; clearly she’s doing something right or he’d be red as a lobster.

The red just isn’t her color.

    • tereliz

LUHV her sweater! It’s like she’s wearing Joan’s hair and Megan’s chevron coat, lol!

      • http://twitter.com/TMamBo Therese Bohn

I thought of Megan’s chevron coat too!  I like the sweater, and I wonder if the haircolor and extensions are for a role?

    • BeeBeauNYC

I’m not loving the red hair either, but maybe because it’s clashing with the sweater top – that’s not a color a redhead would want to wear. Fair skin + redhair = bring some contrast in your clothing! (Speaking from personal experience!)

    • http://twitter.com/DarthJaeda Jaeda Laurez

The baby is adorabo! But that hair looks a bit strange. But she’s in “Mommy” mode and Lord knows I know that struggle, so I can’t be too hard on the girl. I’d have to see it “done up” with face before I properly assess.

    • Qitkat

Speaking from family experience, today’s children are so used to having their picture taken, what with cell phones and digital cameras everywhere, that it’s not unusual at all for a kid to *work a camera like a pro* even with no papparazzi in their life.

January looks cute and normal here, I like her sweater, and it’s possible she may still be nursing Xander, if she went that route, hence the casual teeshirt, it’s comfy. The red hair, it may work, I’d have to see it styled.

    • MilaXX

Can’t really judge the hair until I see her in full RC drag. She makeup free here so i’ll just squee at the baby for now.

    • SignLadyB

I actually like the red hair.

    • bionicgyal1

That kid is the cutest accessory ever. She looks soooo different with the red hair. I would love to see her dolled up with the red do. Wonder if she’d give Joan a run for her money.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

She has that “God help me” look of a new mother. I feel for you dear. You look good and you are dressed, that is half the battle!

    • giiiirrrr

I think the red hair *might* be ok with a different color cardigan.  But not with that one.  Ew.

    • Lisa_Cop

Her son is adorable but JJ, oh that awful red hair.

    • guest2visits

Not crazy about the red for her.  Cute pics but I need to get them a couple of hats for the sun, immediately !

    • berkeleygirl

She really needs to eat something.

    • mommyca

i think the red looks fantastic on her….

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

She does look very different with the red hair, but I’ll withhold judgement until she’s dressed to impress.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

That baby is so deliciously cute. The genes are mightily magical.

    • http://robot-heart.tumblr.com heartbot

I just had a baby 3 months ago. This is pretty much my uniform. It’s a little comforting, actually, that even big fancy pants stars like January Jones look like this when they’re manning their baby battle stations for the day, and it’s not just me.

Edited to add: there was a time when I cared more about whether my rear-end was covered when I wore leggings. Then I had a baby and ran out of f*@#$ to give.

    • RzYoung

I reckon with the right make up and outfit she’s rock this ginger -blondes often can they just need to adjust the tone of everything else they put on their body. Can’t wait to see what she does with it.

That baby is so sweet, I hope he’s not scared by the photographer though, makes me feel bad when I look at shots like this

    • http://twitter.com/dollsaga Helen

      wow, the baby is adorable!!

    • ccm800

He’s giving the Blaine’s brother over the shoulder (ala Matt Bomer on Glee)

    • Aurumgirl

That is a serious “Mommy Escapes” outfit, right down to the little hole in the T-shirt.  But it’s kind of refreshing to see that motherhood and the demands of a new baby levels us all!  She really does look great despite the throw on clothes, and as for the red hair we’re not really seeing it in its intended context.  But I’m happy she’s getting out of the house for what I hope is conversation with another adult.

    • siriuslover

The red’s a bit harsh on her. That baby is adorbs.

    • lordandtaylor

      I am loving her sunglassed.

Babies always pull the attention in any photo. Perhaps the child is being used to draw the eye from that, um, casual outfit.

    • Sarah Michaels

I think she’s jealous of Christina Hendricks (cause god knows she can’t hold a candle to her).

    • aeg66

I wonder if she dyed her hair to match Xanders (cute as all get too). If you look at his eyebrows they’re maybe reddish blonde & this is a way to deflect from the whose your baby’s daddy gossip all abuzzing???

    • Arellys Victor Garro

does her T-shirt has a hole?
haha, she must be so in-love with her comfy T-shirts, as I am! love her for that

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

That little boy looks anxious.   I just hate it when photogs get too close to these people when they are carrying their kids.  It’s the child psychologist in me, I know.  But look at his face.  He is wary.  He looks even more anxious in the closer shot.   RE: her hair.  Why on earth did she do that?  Now the name “January” doesn’t fit her at all.
