Gucci Menswear Spring 2013 Collection

Posted on June 27, 2012

Praise Jesus, color is back in menswear in a big way. And these two color queens couldn’t be happier about it. You should see our house. Those yellow suits? Same color as our kitchen. The green one? Our bedroom. The orange ones? Lorenzo’s office. And ten years ago, one wall of our dining room was pretty much exactly the color of the red trench coat you’re currently looking at. You guys, Gucci is totally ripping off Chez T Lo!

It’s a very sunny and breezy-cool kind of collection with its bright tones and easy vibe; very Mediterranean summer vacation, assuming you’re the type who wears suits to the Mediterranean. Love the pinstripe and polka dot suits, but we’re not entirely on board with the abstract floral print pieces and we really don’t think something that looks like a male peasant blouse is ever going to fly off the racks. But who cares? These looks are cool, chic, and summertime-fabulous. We’ll take two of (almost) everything.

My god, it’s  a whole runway of Chuck Bass!

      • http://twitter.com/AmberAndronicus Fucking A.

I literally thought, “Come on down, Ed Westwick”. You knew.

      • Valdri8

I was actually thinking Dieter from Sprockets!

    • Lina_bee

ALL of the suits with a 1930s on the Riviera vibe are making me SO FREAKING HAPPY, omg. I want the orange sweaters (both the cardigan and the pullover) for myself. And the orange floral pajamas. (I refuse to believe they’re daywear.)  The other florals are silly, but I’m digging the COLOR immensely!

    • JimMcC

Green suit, yellow pants, and orange cardigan for me please! I’m actually going to ask a question I don’t think I’ve ever posed in a legitimate way: typically, how soon are these clothes actually available in stores after a show?

    • judybrowni

      orange suits. o rilry?

    • Pants_are_a_must

There is no way you could wear any of those looks to the Mediterranean. Pit stains, wrinkles and stank boot, oh my!

      • alyce1213

Not to the beach, but the evenings are breezy and cool.

    • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Me wantum!! I’m loving a lot of this. The florals, and center matched prints, not so much, but the bulk of it? Hells to the yeah.

hmm. It looks like the Golden Girls costume rack re-cut as menswear.

    • hughman

Now this is fab, the Bruce Wayne to Versace’s Batgirl mess.

    • giiiirrrr

A lot to like here, but can we just not with the double-breasted suits?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=588149191 Rex Griffin Pyle

That is a whole lot of ugly.

    • SpcilK

Summer Sexy! Gucci is forcing me to like double breasted suits. Damn Them!

    • MilaXX

I  (mostly) like!  I have a weird issue against yellow in kitchens. A few years ago I redid my kitchen and my mother offered to pay for the painting. We somehow ended up in a knock down, drag out argument about whether it should be yellow or not. It’s b/w with pops of orange and the backyard door is painted the same orange as the suits. I think most men could wear this collection with the exception of the floral prints, although some might get away with the blue prints.
Can’t wait to see which daring male celeb wears any of this on the RC.

    • Sartorial_She

Would love it if they made that orange sweater with white and navy detailing for women…

    • jilly_d

Double-breasted pinstripes will never not look like a cartoon gangster (just needs a fat stogie to complete look) but I actually like a lot of this stuff.  And I’d like a pair of those loafers in each color for my man please!

    • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

I actually love the prints except the orange ones.  On the right person (yes I know, usually 1% of the population can actually pull it off but still I think they’re great if you can rock it).  Great collection, I think!

And TLo has a green bedroom?  … yikes.

      • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

        What color is yours?

        • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

Well considering I just moved in a couple of weeks ago into a new apartment, it’s currently an off white, cream.  Though I don’t think I intend on changing it just because I use it as a studio as well and the color is better to paint against, maybe a light neutral grey would be better.

Okay I suppose I would have to see how the room is designed to really judge it.  I guess when I start work I’ll be able to see it. :]

          • http://www.tomandlorenzo.com/ Tom and Lorenzo

             Yikes.

      • Alisa Rivera

        What’s wrong with green?

        • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

          EVERYTHING!  :p

          • http://twitter.com/ILikeShiny Cindi Williams

Eff you! Eff you so hard and your anti-green ways!!!! :D

Green is fantastic in the bedroom, and I adore it.

    • kimmeister

My accent wall in the kitchen is that shade of mustardy yellow!  My friend calls it my nacho cheese wall.

    • Aurumgirl

Love it all except for the white loafers.  Didn’t your moms ever tell you you can not trust a man who wears white shoes?

    • http://twitter.com/amorris7012 Austin Morris

Wait, is that a polo collar only under a mesh shirt in that final look? I’m dying laughing.

Everything else is stunning, though. That red leather jacket needs to be mine.

    • Saucysusan

Some nice pieces, but I just can’t deal with the ankle-baring length of the pants. Or the florals. Or that last black mesh I can see his nipples shirt. No man or woman should ever wear these. Ever. Please.

    • Linderella

I, too, am thrilled color is back (though in truth it never went away, the rest of the world just caught up to me).  Only serious complaint:  most of these looks are ONE color.  Mix it up, stylists.  Colors this bright and happy should never be monochromatic.

    • guest2visits

I am partial to the pale green suit, top row because it looks cool and retro.
Then there are a couple of suits here only RDJ and Ewan M. could possibly manage.

    • http://twitter.com/babsaffolter barbara affolter

I think the abstract florals would make nice swimsuits, but definitely am not sold on the dashikis.

    • 5HT

Oh, I would love to see your house!
      /off-topic

    • quiltrx

I have a feeling there was one word for the model search…”angular.”

    • boweryboy

      Yay!  I’m right on trend.

I just picked up a great pair of 3/4 length shorts in the same Gucci orange and I’m going WERQ the shit out of them.

      3/4 length haters be damned.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RHLSUVX3NCPB4OSS5BM7GZIXUE P. Capet

      wow!

    • Sarah Thomas

Some of them just don’t look well tailored. And I’m sorry, I cannot with the American cut jacket/European cut pant anymore. It makes you look like Frankenstein.

      • filmcricket

Yeah, there’s something about most of the suit jackets that’s not working for me. I don’t know if it’s the button placement, or the fit, or what, but it’s particularly egregious on the last line of 3, far left. That just looks wonky.

        Dig the colours, though.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3DWDLRZCK3MZICZKYJDR55MC4Y soren

I love the florals and would wear every single one of them. Possibly at the same time a la Nolan Ross (ok probably not).

My bedroom is yellow, but it’s more of a limoncello.

    • Terence Ng

Ugh, I WANT that orange sweater.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/K3O2QNXDJIU3AJINAGNJRYWDZ4 mrspotts66

      i LOVE the colors.
i do NOT like the florals for men.
the cuts and lines of the clothing are very appealing.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

give me a man in a mint green suit…..

    • Crow Winters

so how does one buy these?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

What’s happening in the last photo? It seems the model’s wearing a see-through shirt (you can his breasts and everything), but it appears he also has a shirt underneath (you can see the colar). So is the nude breast a print or what? Intersting shirt anyway.

    • http://twitter.com/Wint3rhart Winterhart

Omg, you could cut yourself on some of those cheekbones.

The sweater in the center, 3rd row, makes me wish I had a boyfriend so that I could steal it from him.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mary-Stone/100001328135240 Mary Stone

I want the orange shawl-collared sweater.  VERY nice palate cleanser (in terms of fashion) after the ver-sase international male Ceasar’s Palace ab-stravaganza.

Not that I’m complaining at all about the male pulchritude and physical perfection on display there, but a fashion show should be about the fashion, and this is.

Another collection for Mr. McDonald to mine. I think the green suit in the top row, middle, or the orange suit second row, left would look wonderful on him. He’s got the coloring to pull off either of them.

    • Adella Thompson

The wall paper prints I could do without, but otherwise I am beyond delighted!

    • ccm800

      love that orange sweater

    • http://twitter.com/iJenmac Jennifer McClory

My 12-year-old son just spotted this and squealed.  He has a pair of orange pants that he LOVES, and seeing orange pants on the runway just reassured him that he made the right choice in demanding them to go with his seersucker blazer this past spring.  :)  Thanks, TLo, you made his day!
