Emma Stone in Burberry Prorsum

Posted on June 14, 2012

Oh, Ems. Good for YOU.

Emma Stone attends the ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Press Conference in Seoul, South Korea in Burberry Prorsum.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2012 Collection

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2012 Collection

We were very upset last night and couldn’t sleep. Tossing and turning all night, flinging sleepy cats in all directions, we agonized over Emma’s horrifically ugly Lucy Van Pelt dress for the Tokyo Spider-Man premiere. What happened to her? Is someone trying to destroy her? Is she depressed? Already tired of playing the supporting role in this little poledance? Is her stylist brain damaged? Vindictive? Blind? Questions, darlings. As fashion bloggers, we spend our days pondering the deep questions. We do it for the children.

Anyway, we squealed with delight* when we saw these pics this morning. It’s a cute, sassy return to form for Emma. We don’t particularly love the faux necklace sewn into the shirt, mainly because it looks like it really throws the weight of it off, but other than that, no complaints. We’re grateful she didn’t wear the velvet version of the skirt. Love the choice of shoes. The “pop of color” rule can easily be misinterpreted or overdone, but this was a perfect way to go. Also, after yesterday’s facial disaster, someone apparently remembered that fresh and clean really is the only way to go with her makeup 95% of the time.

Nicely done, Team Stone. You all get to keep your jobs for one more day.

*Most of the narrative details have been greatly enhanced, including the squealing and the purported bout of insomnia. Also: questions. We really don’t spend that much time on them. We’ve got a website to run here, people.

OK. She looks a lot better here. Her makeup yesterday was really scary. Not sure about the pasted on “rocks” though. I wish the background were lighter so we could see the skirt more clearly, but I think it’s probably OK.

  • Whew, The relief is palpable, across the nation.  I, like you, was unable to sleep, seeing that tragic fall from grace yesterday, especially when she was standing next to,…”him”.

    • Now… we just need to go back to the red heair and everything will be OK.

      •  I like the blonde, it suits her, but red is my fave so far on her.

      •  I prefer the red too, but she’s a natural blonde, so I really can’t blame her.

  • I think I may prefer the dress from yesterday (which I legitimately liked). This skirt just seems to big, stiff, boxy, and high-waisted–she’s moving around as though her hips are paralyzed.

  • moppet

The outfit is better today, but the colors seem so autumnal. Which makes sense because this is from a fall collection, but it doesn’t actually match what I”m seeing outside my window.

The makeup is soooo much better. I have no idea what happened yesterday. She was nearly unrecognizable then. I guess her makeup artists got over their jet lag or whatever the issue was.

  • nannypoo

Not so sure about this. I like the model’s heavier footwear and her belt. On Emma it just looks like a bunch of stuff randomly chosen from her closet.

    • Lisa_Cop

I like the belt, too. Emma looks cute but would be a true IN with a belt.

  • MilaXX

Much improved. She was looking crazy yesterday.

  • RzYoung

She does look better, i don’t like the top though, the colours are durgey.

  • SapphoPoet

Really? I think the silhouette of this outfit is better, but all the colors are hideous. Also, I can’t stand shirts with all that added-on junk. Not a fan of this outfit.

  • TheLaurenJean

Seriously? I hate this. A lot. Not as much as the Peanuts dress, but still, a lot.

    • Kristin McNamara

what i was going to write. exactly. really can’t stand this outfit either!

    • Thank you! This outfit is hideous. Nothing goes together, the diagonal ruffle fights with the horizontal stripes, the faux necklace is too heavy and clashes with the shirt and those red shoes are out of nowhere. At least it looks like these shoes fit her.

  • Pants_are_a_must

    It’s better.

It’s also a glorified t-shirt with someone’s arts and crafts sown into it, stuffed into a pencil skirt with peplums.

  • Pants_are_a_must

    It’s better.

  • Call me Bee

Emma looks great, since her makeup is perfect and she has the best smile…but that T with the huge faux-turquoise beads on the neckline?  Ugh–pure Alfred Dunner grandma shirt.
But–her shoes are darling and they fit!

  • I must be old, because this ensemble just looks like a lot of stuff that doesn’t go together.  And everytime I see Burberry Prorsum typed out, I read it as Burberry Possum.

Her hair is awfully pretty, though.

    • ballerinawithagun

Love the Possum idea. Their first collections were great…now they just look like expensive, bad Etsy!

    • How is Prorsum pronounced? I think of it as pROARsum but I am never sure.

  • AlinaValero

THIS is the kind of outfit that only non-real-people-celebs can pull off. she looks great! ALSO, her legs look at minimum 5 miles long. and i’m not even jealous. nope not at all.

  • Judy_S

I agree about the colors and all. It’s a bit strange to congratulate her on not wearing the designer outfit. BUT because of the oversized shoes yesterday I am looking at the shoes in a picky way and these look too big to me, too.

  • I love the look, she looks great.

  • I think this could possibly be worse than yesterday.  Too many colors, a craft project bib on her t-shirt.  It looks messy.

  • Scarlet39

Don’t care for the red shoes, but overall it’s a pretty look.

  • T and Lo – not to get personal, but don’t you have better things to do in bed than agonize over Emma Stone’s stylist?

    • MilaXX

Pretty sure that’s the whole point of the blog.

  • annie_wonder

If I had these items in my wardrobe (oh to be a rich girl), I would’t have put them together in a million years but there’s something oddly coherent and likable about this outfit on her. I’m not sure about the sewn on necklace but the bright blue does compliment the red shoes.

  • TheOriginalLulu

She looks adorable! I really think it’s time to go back to her natural hair color now.

    • Kristin McNamara

her natural hair color is blonde.

      • TheOriginalLulu

Is it really? Then she should go back to coloring it red.

        • Kristin McNamara

          haha 🙂 i agree!
i remember reading an interview with her, many years post-superbad, where she was talking about how she liked her natural hair color on herself better, but after having colored it for her superbad audition, filming it like that, and getting famous like that, now everybody thinks THAT’s her natural color! but she doesn’t like it as much, apparently.

          • TheOriginalLulu

I had no idea. The red looks so good on her and so…I don’t know, right for her that I would have sworn it was her natural color. She’s a really pretty girl and the blonde works, but I think the red just looks better with her coloring.

      • Ali

I’m wondering if this is just not her natural shade of blonde – it doesn’t look quite right on her. Based on her eyebrows, I think she’s a slightly darker, more honeyed blonde. This is too cool and platinum for her.

  • Kristin McNamara

is that little gold thing on her shoes really something stuck ON her shoes?? or is that like, the little X they’re supposed to stand on, taped to the stage? i hope it’s the former. it’d be funnier if it was like, golden TP stuck to the bottom of her shoes ^_^

    • MilaXX

It’s the mark. In the first pic you can see it’s in a different spot.

  • quiltrx

I don’t like the necklace thing…if it were the same color as one of the shirt stripes, I probably wouldn’t mind it.  The rest is cute.

  • Love her hair. And she seems much happier without the presence of her co-star.

  • Judy_J

    Very nice, Emma.

  • Candigirl1968

Much much better.  Interesting that she seems to be wearing a lot of fall runway rather than resort (which would probably have more looks that are summer appropriate).

  • Eh. That shirt looks like something you could get at any mall. Skirt, shoes, etc are awesome, though.

  • VioletFem

A very stylish outfit. I’m glad that she chose not to wear that silly belt with the outfit. Also, side note, are people so dense that they can’t honestly tell when TLo is being sarcastic?

  • Bill Curtis

Not sold.  From the waist up she looks like Casual Friday and from the waist down she looks like Monday morning business meeting.

  • QuincyTKatz

I hope the sleepy cats are OK…….

  • lordandtaylor

Looks great. I guess Ems took our advice to get new gays. Hair and makeup is super fine. Good for her. I will let her join us for lunch.

  • unbornfawn

Just not working for me. The skirt is too fancy for that Beach Boys T-shirt.

  • Zippypie

She traded a sad Charlie Brown dress for a sad Charlie Brown top.  Yes, this is an improvement but I think only the horror of that dress and styling makes this look good.  The shoes ROCK, however.  Keep going, Em.  By the end of your press tour, you’ll probably get it right.

  • dickylarue

Could she please be a redhead again?

  • cleep1000

I’m not feeling this. The pieces seem randomly put-together. Colors don’t match or complement. I think I actually preferred the hot brown wrinkled mess from yesterday.

  • formerlyAnon

Meh. I didn’t dislike yesterday’s chocolate Lucy van Pelt nearly as much as almost anyone else did.

Can’t deny she’s much prettier as made up here and the look is cute, but I go so far as to hate the attached faux necklace and on my monitor dislike the blue/brown stripes which edge over towards violet-indigo and a wierd yellow-brown & with the “necklace” blue and red pumps create an unharmonious mishmash.

  • poketom

WHY WHY WHY does her stylist insist on throwing as much shit around her hips as possible. If it’s not a peplum it’s a flounce or a bubble skirt or a giant ass bow.

Get this girl some calvin klein minimalism for gods sake. JUST ONCE let her know how it feels to not be drowned by foofaraw.

  • LilyPad

I think she looks a little washed out…could be the lip color? it seems a little tangerine-y for her complexion. I think the color combination in this outfit is very appealing, and she looks polished and cute. Unfortunately, the sewn-on jewelry just reminds me of cheaper versions I’ve seen at TJ Maxx. Sorta tacky, even though I’m sure that shirt cost at least 2 grand.

  • Lilithcat

The faux necklace is awful, particularly in that color.  It really drags down the neckline.

Yesterday’s dress was very cute.  I much prefer it to this frumpy thing.

  • Susan Crawford

I’m not usually a fan of Burberry Prorsum, but I really like this outfit on Little Ems. She looks relaxed, confident and cool. I like the embellishes tee, she has the figure and proportions to rock that complex skirt, and the red shoes are a good choice. Good work – two days in a row, Ems gets thumbs up from me!

  • charlotte

    Aww, how happy she looks!

  • LesYeuxHiboux

See, now, I think this is a wreck. Except her makeup.

  • judybrowni

    Definitely better.

I’m also not a fan of the plastic necklace, but this ensemble is cute, and not overloaded with gimcracks like the poor model.

Her hair is also great and she has a reason to be happy.

  • JackieOBlue

Better than yesterdays look, but both look too heavy for this time of the year.

  • Neverbuynewclothes

Proving that a radiant smile is always appropriate!  That’s what we want our stars to do!  Compare to model’s expression of sulkiness.

    • Lisa_Cop

She look so genuinely happy. A smile is a girl’s best accessory!

  • Clearly someone on Team Emma 1) reads this blog and 2) saved a stylists job.  What can’t TLo do?

  • …The outfit is tres cute. But could someone please get chica a bit of blush?

  • momogus

I didn’t mind yesterday’s dress. Today’s striped shirt is awful, imho.

  • marilyn

Are designers and/or stylists colorblind?  Doesn’t anyone in her camp know that the clothes were bold and dark, and that the shoes and fake necklace had nothing to do with anything?  Do they know that turquoise and bright red have nothing to do with that autumnal mess she was wearing?  You know, the black skirt with the umber and navy crew top has a lot going on.  Throwing in the accessories just made it look like someone’s 4 year old niece got to pick what she wore.  She is a beautiful young woman.  She should look better than this.  Nice to know that Bedazzlers don’t die, they get recycled to colorblind designers.

  • Nonnah

It’s 72 degrees in Seoul and 89 MF’in degrees in St. Louis.  Why is she wearing velvet?  I just can’t.

    • Lisa_Cop

The model’s skirt is velvet but Emma’s isn’t. It look like some man made fabric like rayon.

  • guest2visits

I understand the quirky chic at work here; it’s just not winning me over. I love the skirt on her. This sporty top might look better
with a plain black pencil skirt; no frills.  I also like the model’s use of tights and suede-y shoes; but that’s very fall/winter.

  • PeaceBang

I’m going to pretend that whole sewn-on neck cuff thing isn’t happening so that I can celebrate the return of Adorable Emma. The hair and make-up are gorgeous.

  • granddelusion

She’s so cute, it should be illegal.

  • elzatelzabelz

I love this, even though I desperately want her back as a redhead. Her red hair is gorgeous.

  • kikisayshi

    LOVE the shoes.

  • bitterk

Sorry but I am not sure who Emma is these days.  Not liking the hair or anything.
