Dakota Fanning in Hollywood

Posted on June 21, 2012

Hey Miss D!

Dakota Fanning running errands in Hollywood in swan print top and skirt by Topshop paired with her favorite Louis Vuitton bag.

Topshop Petite Cutout Swan Bralet

Topshop Swan Print Skirt

Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton Handbag

You win the Hot Weather Look of the Week! Which is an award we totally made up on the spot and probably won’t give out again! In other words, it’s like half the awards in Hollywood! And you’re in Hollywood at the moment! Synchronicity! Exclamation points!

Now that we’re done writing like a 14-year-old on Livejournal, we just wanna say that this really is an adorable little look on her, and has just enough of an edge to it to make it fun and youthful. Granted, we wouldn’t want to be dressed in black under what looks like a pounding sun, but that’s what youth is for: dumb mistakes that look cool. Certainly those two dudely bros at the end of the block are appreciating the effort.

very retro cute. i love the bag but i think it justs too much for summer.

      • TieDye64

I agree with you on both counts.

        • Cathy S

           I double agree.

    • http://onebluetree.blogspot.com/ Sara L.

She looks great. And I would knock her down for that bag. I’m not kidding.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/rmccarthyjames RMJ12345

My first reaction to this: God, I hope she loaded up on sunscreen.

(My second reaction: Head-to-toe super cute!!!!! Apparently just mentioning Livejournal made me regress to sqees.)

    • teensmom99

She is dressed like a teen without a stylist.  and I mean that in a good way.

      • AudreysMom

TA – just one edit – she is dressed like a teen -with fashion sense- without a stylist. The garden variety teens in my neck of the woods would run errands in shorts, a tank and flip flops. But then I suspect they grown them a bit different in Hollywood.

        • pookiesmom

Another edit: she’s dressed like a teen with a fashion sense WITH MONEY without a stylist.

    • KaileeM

Love that she’s pairing Top Shop with her gorgeous Sofia Coppola Louis Vuitton bag. She looks cute!

    • Saucysusan

Cute..but the bag looks too heavy for this summery outfit IMO.

    • alyce1213

The bag’s too heavy and black. Something light and colorful would have been a better choice.
      Otherwise, so cute and summery.

    • Joyce VG

I hope she’s wearing sunscreen.  And she should totally get her flirt on with the “dudely bro” in the black T-Shirt.

    • SapphoPoet

Cute. I hope she has on her sunscreen. Love the bag, but it looks heavy for summer.

    • Judy_J

She looks great.  Perfect summer outfit.

    • TheOriginalLulu

She looks so adorable! I love that little outfit. I wish I were a teen again so I could wear it.
She stopped those “dudely bros” right in their tracks. Good for you girl!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1401197785 Jennifer Peters-Ahnberg

      Cute! I’m coveting the purse.

    • Susan_El

This is slightly off topic but here’s my fashion query du jour:

Why do all these Street Style Fashion Fame Seekers, every one of whom is porting what presumably is a free giant purse, insist on wearing it in the crook-of-the-elbow, when it’s clear that all $1000+ purses come with an easy-to-use shoulder strap that obviously would free up their hands to text, carry coffee cups, tote designer babies, etc.?

Does anyone know the reason for this irrational refusal to drape a shoulder bag over the shoulder conveniently provided by the inventor of people for just that purpose?

      • FlamingJune1967

Because the strap messes with the line of their clothes.  This is how I know they are posing, ’cause real moms on the street free up their hands. (not that she’s a mom)

      • bookish

Maybe it’s just personal preference. I know I don’t like to use long shoulder straps because the bag flops around more. With a shorter strap I can keep it right next to my body without having to readjust or reach my hand down to hold the bag still. And then I never strap bags across my body because of the boobs squishing.

        • amywinns

Likewise, I prefer a shorter handle, either to carry in hand, hold at the crook, or to jam up on my shoulder yet stay super-close to the body. I rarely use a long strap unless it’s just absolutely necessary for whatever reason. I’m a city commuter, if that is relevant or relateable. But I also don’t leave an unused shoulder strap just dangling impotently:  I tuck or detach it for later deployment. However, that doesn’t seem possible with this design… It’s a puzzle all right.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

I have a cross body bag that I love, but when I wear it as intended, I get bifurcated boobs.

      • Mildred20

My guess is that it shows off the purse better.  Getting a free bag also means you have to show it off as much as possible.

      • MilaXX

Depending on the bag, I sometimes prefer the crook of the arm carry over the shoulder strap.

      • StellaZafella

Pulling shoulder starps on and off over my head knocks my glasses off, that would make a P’razi’s day: “XXXX, seen in drunken sidewalk brawl with name brand accessory, film at 11!”

      • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jaymeglynn

Wearing it in the crook of your elbow still keeps your hands free for texting/holding a hundred other things. And it’s way easier to dig around into when you can actually see what you’re doing while still looking ahead at while you’re walking. I think you need to try it.

    • crash1212

Love the look. Hope she’s wearing sunscreen – about an SPF2000.

    • http://twitter.com/riosramblings Michael Rios

She looks absolutely charming. It’s clean, but with a hint of edge. Plus, she looks at ease in it which means it’s a really good outfit.

    • http://twitter.com/Forev45 Kristen

You guys are hilarious. But she didn’t make a mistake; she’s probably a little chilly. L.A.’s been in the 70s all week.

      • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

Maybe she was in Pasadena or … San Bernardino, ha.

    • Corsetmaker

Nice to see someone just dressing like other young girls their own age (well apart from the bag). Good old TopShop.

    • bellafigura1

Excellent, although wrong bag (but yes, I would snatch that purse, it’s my new obsession but in red).

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

Love it on her, but the guys in the back are making me HOWL.

    • MilaXX

Cure outfit, can’t say I like it on her. Please tell the Fanning sisters there is an entire spectrum of colors between please nudes and goth black. This makes her look like she was locked in the basement all winter.

    • formerlyAnon

“Certainly those two dudely bros at the end of the block are appreciating the effort.”

See young ladies? You can look summery and show some skin withOUT looking like a hooker! Who knew?!

    • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

Anyone know what those shoes are?

    • http://twitter.com/#!/Space_Kitty Space Kitty

Surprisingly cute, but if designer looks get any more youthful, we’ll all be in diapers.  Which, on reflection, does explain granny panties.

    • uprightcitizen

Wouldn’t worry about black and the pounding sun. This week in SoCal, unless she’s WAY inland, it’s barely getting into the high 70s. If she’s going to be lunching in the shade at an outdoor cafe, she needs that big purse to carry her sweater. California may look hot in photos, but it doesn’t really get that way for a couple more months.

      • TheOppositeOfBatman

Oye, lucky. Up in Sacramento it’s been 90-100 for the last ten days. Peaked at 108.

    • http://twitter.com/LOfficielEbony TheVeryLivingEND

      I want that bag.

    • kimmeister

      Cute clothes, hate the shoes.

    • shopgirl716

      love it.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_F73LIJ3SJGI5AJQMXMWXCKILHI Pamela

I know it looks too youthful for me but I love that material.  So cute.  WANT the bag!
Blinded by the white skin reflecting the sun….for someone so pale, she sure has a lot of uncovered skin.

    • marilyn

She needs to touch up her roots and get a tan.

      • snarkykitten

screw that, pale looks good on her.

      • Corsetmaker

No she does not need to get a tan.

Pale is lovely and she’ll look young a lot longer than any sun worshipper will!

    • Lina_bee

I love it when she looks like the wee college student she is. Granted, I don’t get the appeal of pink-lensed glasses, but whatev. She’s adorbs.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

My skin color is even more blindingly white than Dakota’s, especially the bits that have never seen the sun.

She’s an amazing actress — absolutely mesmerizing onscreen.  I hope she enjoys good health and a long career.  To ensure the first part, let’s all take up a collection now for a lifetime supply of industrial-strength sunscreen to send her way.

    • snarkykitten

why is she carrying a doctor’s bag?

    • Marian Humin

      So cute! Love it all!

    • Sarah Michaels

I don’t know why but I hate this look… the dress does nothing for me and I think it’s a bad match with the bag. And her hair looks fake-fake-blonde to me.

    • IMNAngryLiberal

She looks adorable — if I were years younger I would so wear that outfit.

    • Susan Crawford

I love that translucently pale skin, and I hope she is wearing plenty of sunblock. The outfit is suitable ONLY for little wee forest folk, but that bag? I would definitely mug an elf for it!

    • granddelusion

Her “favorite” lv bag! Love this stufc. Outfit is cute. I’d like to see her shoes closer.

    • Geoff Dankert

Honestly, Kate Hudson has never looked better.

    • SophieCollier

She’s so pale, it’s like she’s reflective.  Does not sunburn.

    • Indovina

I do not care for it. In fact, actively dislike it. It’s just not my style or taste and we’ll leave it at that.

I don’t know that I would necessarily consider wearing black in the height of summer a dumb mistake, but I do consider doing anything that two dudely bros appreciate to be one, so I can’t disagree with that assessment – but the looking cool part is where we, well, part.

    • ziarah

Is it just me, or does she look a little like a young Kate Hudson here?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1241487378 Lauren Lynch Fox

you are only young once, do what you want. The handbag looks a little mature.

    • DebbieLovesShoes

      I don’t like the shoes

      • out for a walk

Me neither. I don’t really like them anyway, but they’re an extra weird pairing with the rest of the outfit. The studs or whatever don’t help, in that it makes them look more mismatched to the swan stuff, and the overall effect is very suede-platform-mary-jane-crocs. With tiny peeptoes.

    • quiltrx

SWAN PRINT.  OMG.  So wish I could fit in such a thing.  Then I could wear it, stand with my swan collection, and enjoy how fabulous it all is. :)

    • Bozhi

The shoes are not a disaster, but would not be my first choice with that adorable outfit.  The bag IS a disaster with that outfit.

    • guest2visits

I’m a grinch for not liking this, I know – but I don’t like it. Truely looks like something for a little bitty girl, 5-8. Maybe up to 12.
I don’t care for the shoes either. And the heavy duty Louis Vuitton doesn’t really go with any of it, to me anyway.

    • elemspbee

any body recognize the shoes? and what discount store carries it?

    • ms_kat

Love the bag, sort of hate the top. It hasn’t been that hot here in LA — mostly 70s.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

I thought it was Anna Paquin in the thumbnail photo!

    • ballerinawithagun

Since color only returned to the runway in the last few years, this is the perfect black for summer.

    • EEKstl

Perfectly adorable and love the shoes.  Having lived there, I shudder at mere photographs of that blinding, flat, omnipresent LA sun on that pale skin.  I hope she dove into a pool of SPF 100 that morning.

    • TomBord

Cute outfit but the dreadful bag looks like a sad re-worked Coach bag.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Love the skirt, not so much the top, but it is perfect for a girl her age and she looks great.  Don’t like the big heavy bag with the outfit, or the clunky shoes, but pretty good.

    • Judih1

Cute look but the bag and the shoes ruin it. Wish she would do something with that hair – you are not a tow headed kid anymore

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_RHLSUVX3NCPB4OSS5BM7GZIXUE P. Capet

swans are the new polka-dot!  adorable.

    • OneTwoThreeFashion

      she is sickly white!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Patrick-Cleary/1201575213 Patrick Cleary

She looks 100% embarrassed to me. Doesn’t look up, seems to be hurrying to her car, and her skin tone shows that she’s not often in the California sun this exposed. I’m thinking photo op that she wasn’t too thrilled about.

    • http://twitter.com/dianasof Diana

i was just salivating over this outfit on the topshop website not two hours ago. sigh.
