Cynthia Rowley Resort 2013 Collection

Posted on June 14, 2012

You can add Miss Cynthia to the short list of designers who opted not to go in a ladylike direction for her resort collection this season.  As always with Cynthia Rowley, it’s fashion for the girl who doesn’t take fashion too seriously. Shiny metallics, bold florals, tight pants, and short shorts rule the day here. What else can you say about a collection which has as its stated inspiration, mylar balloons? The buzz word here is “fun,” and the girl sporting these clothes is looking for a party.

Loving it from here. The metallics are well deployed, the cutting is great, mostly trim, without being too tight. LOVE the black graph paper check outfit.

like they’re being photographed for a police lineup.  That’s the only positive thing I can say...DemoforFrank.blogspot.com

Me, too, but I’m wondering if it’s just that the model is SELLING it (look 13). If she was standing more like the model in look 5, would it look frumpy? Please, lady-stars, someone wear this and prove me wrong!

  • call_me_schmeg

the model in #14 looks like she’s about to take a strategic piss on the carpet.

  • hughman

Even mylar balloons have more shape than these. And #14 just might be the saddest S&M school uniform ever.

You are so right!  They even had to use a semi-deflated balloon in the first one as to not upstage the collection. :)

  • Judy_J

    I mostly like the shoes.

    • CozyCat

I love the kitten heel shoes!

    • Beardslee

I agree.  I like the clothes but the shoes are the best part. Pretty and not too heavy.

  • everest19

    No.

  • j_anson

I find the pink dress at the end there kind of inexplicable. Otherwise, it’s working better for me than I would have thought a collection based on mylar balloons would have.

At least the models don’t look like they’re being photographed for a police lineup.  That’s the only positive thing I can say.

Mostly good.  Nothing great except the jacket on No. 7.

I would love to see Florence wearing some of these pieces!

    • VioletFem

I had the same thought!  Especially dress #12, even though she tends to favor long dresses.

  • Sara__B

I’m not the target audience for this collection,  but I can actually see a lot of these dresses and separates being worn successfully by the right women.

  • kimmeister

I dislike all of the shoes without exception.  Even though I generally love mary janes, the ones here are weirdly shaped.

I am rather taken by the black windowpane print ensemble, however.

  • MilaXX

I don’t like the shiny flowered pants or the purple shiny top, but the rest is pretty cute.

Kind of hit and miss for me, and a lot of it looks like a mash up of Prada, Balenciaga, and Versace all thrown together.

  • RebeccaKW

I read a blog about her collection.  I think the pants (some at least) are neoprene.  Some of this is okay, but those bedazzled granny panties with matching top are pretty hiddy.

    • Celandine1

Those bedazzled granny panties with that seam down the front are just offensive.

    • terekirkland

Neoprene pants for summer? Sounds… smelly. ;)

  • RebeccaKW

  • marilyn

The girl sporting these clothes better get a tan, or remember to take her iron pills.

  • Kristin McNamara

for a resort collection, most of these look awfully dark and heavy.

  • jmorino08

#12 has K Stew written all over it!!

  • erinbinek

3,6,8 and 17 please and thank you. I kind of like the shoes, but I always was a sucker for Mary Janes.

    • out for a walk

#3 yes please! I like bits of other looks, but #3 is the only one I think I could pull off. And I agree about the shoes, the tall ones at least!

  • michelle shields

    barf

  • jilly_d

    fug.

  • NCDFan

I like a surprising number of these. The shoes are interesting. I’m glad they didn’t all wear the same pair of shoes and I didn’t notice any obvious platform shoes which is a plus. I think the straps would be helpful to celebrities who can’t get shoes that fit.

  • http://twitter.com/MandySCG MandyJane

I really love some of that… except the bedazzled granny panties! lol

  • LesYeuxHiboux

I’ll take all of the shoes (except the olive green pair, you can keep those) and dresses 3 and 8.

Who doesn’t love a mylar balloon?

  • http://www.celestiae.net Isy

Cynthia Rowley makes great shoes, but I’m rarely taken by the clothes. I want alllll the shoes.

  • TieDye64

Is it wrong that I like #16 (without those shoes)? Especially the green windowpane slacks.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CQPXLNCBM5CZSHZZXJDHPVFS7E Buffy

Fun! except for the pink dress that came out of nowhere!

  • http://asskickingadviser.com/ Ass Kicking Adviser

Love. A lot of great pieces here and I especially like the prints. The shoes are really making the look.

  • allisankelly

I don’t generally like her designs, and this didn’t change that. Except the shoes. I’m a sucker for Mary Jane’s and any variation on that theme.

  • Lina_bee

2, 3, & 4 are kind of interesting, but the collection on the whole screams 20-year-old sorority girl. Not my thing at all, but I guess that’s as good a niche market as any.

  • Lisa_Cop

Except for #3,8 & 9 these looks are unbelievably horrid.

  • PeaceBang

I love dress #3 and #8 (which I think has a beautiful cut!). Some of the separates are very cute, but I can’t get with the bedazzled leggings. The shoes are adorable and make a lot of these outfits.

    Meh.

  • guest2visits

Some fun stuff; lots of pretty shoe wear.  Some dreaded diaper shorts.  Especially liked the jacket on 7, the dresses of 8 + 9, 15 + 21.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

Her clothes don’t fit me very well, but I’ll take a couple of pairs in those strappy shoes please…

  • Jangle57

This is so NOT my favorite collection – U to the GLY

  • quiltrx

Cute, but shiny only works on really skinny girls.

  • angryparsnip

WhooHoo  # 11 long sleeved top/romper ? with short shorts that when she sit down and is sweating like a waterfall and gets up all the back thigh skin will rip off ! ! ! yea !
Like some of the metallic fabric though.

    cheers,  parsnip

I want the word bubble balloons in my apartment.

  • holdmewhileimnaked

wow, has she ever upped her game w/ this collection. it’s not probably but most definitely the best CR collection i have yet seen. i also love the [i either imagine or suppose] aftermarket numbering so i can clearly state sans likelihood of miscounting that my favorites are numbers two, three & fifteen. i’ll give a hefty pass to fifteen’s semi-doppel, eighteen, along w/ my liking for nineteen, six [other than the shirt, which looks low end], seven, four & a bit of nine & ten. other than the strangely conservative & not particularly in mesh w/ the rest of the bunch, say, twenty through twenty two, which are, you know, fine but not inspiring, i think the whole collection is definitely in the better than many if not most casual collections range. & thats saying a lot, by me, for CR.

also thumbs uprising for the balloons.

  • Pennymac

I am surprised that I like most of this, and I LOVE the shoes.

  • PastryGoddess

Shiny! Tight! Cutouts! Sparkle! Fun! Bam! Pow!

    And those shoes are fantastic

  • understateddiva

this is REALLY fun.  Makes you wanna be that girl!

  • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

Was totally happy until the Sloppy Pink Dress.  Other than that, so cute!

  • demidaemon

This si the first resort collection T & Lo have featured that I love almost every outfit of. That one see-through bathing-suit is a bit on the stippertastic side, though.

  • Joey Melliza

    Marni Much?

  • RzYoung

Something strange is happening in photo 3 – odd distortion? Basically if that model straightened out her arms they would go passed her knee! I can’t concentrate on anything else

  • Cheri Lee

    Everything is so beautiful!! J’adore!

  • a_liking

I NEED those pants. Fabulous little dresses too.

  • http://twitter.com/alienspouse Jen Alien-Spouse

Loving the floral prints and I’m not usually a flowery girl.

Is the dark haired model Tina Fey’s sister? She’s serving some Liz Lemon awkward realness there!

  • Holly VandeWall

Gorgeous.  I’ll take everything in #1, #16 and #17 please

  • Lilak

Oh to be young and slender and tall ? . . . sigh.

  • Alice Hepburn

Jacket in number 7, WANT. And while I do not have the shape to pull off 16, I kind of love it. And the last two dresses are pretty, and would look good in my closet.

  • terekirkland

OMG, the last two dresses are SO perfect for me. Want. So. Hard. Love the metallics!

  • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com/ Rebecca

Is anyone else seeing KStew in these?

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Ugh.  Don’t like even one piece.

  • Allison Woods

Totally love the vast majority of this collection.

  • Truly_Outrageous

#21 is giving major Lana Del Rey face.

  • the_valkyrie

The white background is quite blinding. Meh doesn’t do anything for me, though I’d wear the shirt in picture 17
