Cathy Cambridge Walks on the Mild Side

Posted on June 05, 2012

More of Grandma Betty’s Lifetime Achievement Awards celebrations, darling. This time, Cathy is a creamy, whipped confection of BEIGE.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William, Duke of Cambridge attend the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in an Alexander McQueen dress paired with a Jane Taylor hat.

It’s all very pretty, princess-y, and totally Cathy, but man, do we ever wish this was in any sort of real color. Imagine how pretty this would look if it was blue. It seems like every time she wears something bold, like that red McQueen dress for the Magic Royal Boat Ride, she then has to turn around and retreat into her shell with her next outfit. Come on, girl. You’re a pretty princess. Own it.

Bill looks adorable. He’s like a little prince doll you want to prop up on some pillows.

She looks lovely, but doesn’t she have any other shoes?  If I was a real-life princess, I’d have a shoe closet to rival Imelda’s.

    • Real-life princesses spend a lot of time on their feet. Those pumps are obviously comfortable.

      • 3boysful

Clearly those are the most comfortable pumps on the planet, so I wants me some!

      •  True enough, but shoes are available on other colors than beige, from the same maker, and in the same style, and size.

        • And judging by the British tabloids’ cattiness, she does own that brand in that style in every color. 😀

    • I was about to point out the same thing!

    • Lisa_Cop

Yes. A pop of color in the shoes would have been nice. Otherwise I think she looks gorgeous!

    • rh33

Agreed! She needs those shoes in a new color!

    • I was just wondering if those shoes could be burned sometime soon…..

    • Carly Warnock

My problem is more with her thinness. It’s getting a bit much. The shoes I can deal with but for gods-sake eat a sandwich!

  • janetjb

Queen Elizabeth wore a pale color, so it seems appropriate that Cathy doesn’t upstage her in something bolder.

    • Jenna Kuhmann

There was a lot of controversy over the fact that Kate’s outfit on Sunday was so bold when the Queen’s was more subdued; supposedly it looked like Kate was overshawdowing her grandmother-in-law.  I’m sure these outfits were all picked far, far in advance, but maybe that’s why it is a bit colorless.  Today, of all days, she was not supposed to be the focus.

      • luciaphile

I thought she looked elegant. And I agree, she needed to be subdued for this celebration.

      • NC_Meg

And the thing with her outfit for the flotilla is the fact that the boat was red so she actually blended in. The Queen’s outfit popped beautifully against that red. There was no overshadowing her (at least in my opinion.)

        • NNgela

I agree, I watched from the river banks and it was (much to my displeasure) nearly impossible to spot Kate.

        • Maggie_Mae

When Kate came out of the limo, I thought the red was extremely striking.  (Well, it is–& it suited her.)

But the royal barge was draped in red, so she fit right in.  I’m pretty sure all the outfits are designed to coordinate for these occasions…..

          • NC_Meg

Definitely. I think for most events, especially things of that magnitude, outfits are approved beforehand. No way she (or anyone else) showed up there in any surprises.

      • suzq

I suspect the Queen approved.  Apparently, she picked out Will’s red uniform for his wedding day.

    • KittenKisses

The Queen gets first pick of colour on every royal occasion (except weddings where the mother of the bride gets the honour).

  • MilaXX

Bland, boring beige from head to toe. I just can’t cosign this.

  • She’s gorgeous and trying not to steal the show from Grandma Betty and the dread Mother in Law. Can you imagine trying not to upstage Camilla and Betty? If she doesn’t wear beige everyone will throw a fit that the Princess looks better than the other ladies. Not to mention she needs to match Bill’s bland attire before anyone realizes he really married far above his class.

    • carolynmo

However, some wacky Daily Mail writer accused her of deliberately upstaging the queen in her red dress! Whatevs. She looks beautiful.

      • KittenKisses

Was that writer Liz Jones? Because she’s not a writer, she’s an escaped lunatic in print.

        • carolynmo

          No, it was Amanda Platell.

          • So is she (escaped lunatic)

          • Melissa Brogan

I think we can just agree the Daily Mail is filled with escaped lunatics and leave it at that.

          • lesmaha

I’m hoping they just don’t ever read the papers…

          • Maggie_Mae

Even in Texas, we’ve heard of The Daily Fail….

      • Beardslee

What an idiotic thing to say – the cheap, cynical malice of some small minded person who confuses having a public forum for his or her nastiness with thinking that that nastiness is correct and shows how sophisticated and knowing he or she is.
Can’t stand that!  In case you can’t tell.  Am resolved never to read the Daily Mail.

    • formerlyAnon

I cannot believe for a minute that Camilla, who always looks like she’s being a good sport but would rather be in riding clothes (in which she looks darn good, given her age) gives a damn about being upstaged.

Now, the various handlers and advisors and protocol experts may have plenty to say about it.

  • Maria Rosenfire

Bill, darling, fire your tailor! Those suits are getting sadder and sadder.

I for one love Cathy’s reuse of shoes, though I do wish she’d get them in a nicer color, like red or black.

    • moppet

I think he looks rather nice in a morning suit. The unfortunate thing is that the style is so rarely seen that it looks costumey.

      • Maria Rosenfire

No, I love morning suits! They’re wonderful and dramatic and there are hats! But this is an exceptionally ill-fitting one, as his suits always seem to be.

        • Candigirl1968

It seems like the jacket is at least one size too big.  It’s as if he’s got the Olsen twins picking his suit sizes.

        • And besides being too big, it doesn’t look ironed!  I love morning suits too, but they should look crisper than this!  Where’s Will’s valet?

      • girliecue

I’ve been waiting for 3 days for the men to break out the morning suits. They did not disappoint!

      • filmcricket

Question: is that not a rather banker-y tie for a morning coat/top hat ensemble? I love the morning suit too, but that tie just looks dreadful to me. But I am not a sartorial expert (on anything, but particularly men’s clothes) so…

    • introspective

Billy’s looking more and more like a sad sack in all his suits. the uniform being the obvious exception. (single breasts and slimmer fits are your friend dude)

Cathy is being very conscientious of our lean times by being in the public eye in familiar pieces and accessories. I have to give it to her for that subtle statement in support of the 99%. she would however, look fab in the sherbert color gaga was sporting a few posts back!!

  • Susan Stella Floyd

Her unwillingness to upstage the queen is actually quite commendable, and this outfit is beautiful and appropriate.

    • I totes agree.  In another context, on another person, worn for another purpose, I might think it was boring.  But she’s got a role to play, and her clothes are part of it, and I think she nailed it — she found a way to dress to the occasion without being completely boring.

      • yetanotherLaura

And she also managed to sit there with her legs together or her ankles neatly crossed, knowing that no real lady will cross her legs while wearing a dress (Princess Beatrice, I’m looking at you!).  It was refreshing to see someone manage to sit in such a way as to *not* show the good china!

        • Gasp! Did Princess Bea cross her legs?! I … I am all astonishment and horror.

  • sononagal

LOVE this whole look.  I am really into the whole lace overlay look.

It might seem boring to some, but she is WERQing this for sure.

And….I still like the shoes (as does the Princess, obviously).

  • Gasp! Is William actually wearing a single breasted coat?  And I think she looks gorgeous!  As a fair-skinned redhead, I can’t ever wear beige.  So, I’m a bit jealous that she can carry it off with her coloring.

  • Little_Olive

I think it’s appropriate. The color suits her and does not wash her out -kudos to the makeup artist-, so I don’t mind it at all. It’s not like she’s always in beige, right?

And she can wear hats like nobody’s business.   I mean, that thing has pantyhose butterfly wings up there and still.

  • She is too young and beautiful to wear such a nothing color! especially next to Prince W. in his dark coat and tails! I beautiful robin’s egg blue or even a vibriant colbalt would have been very magical!

  • lovelyivy

He looks more and more like his Dad and less like his Mom with every passing year. He can still work cute, but hot has left the building.

She looks lovely, appropriate and tremendously boring. Why go with McQueen if you aren’t going to do anything interesting?

    • AudreysMom

“He can still work cute, but hot has left the building.”

Mmmm… I wouldn’t kick him out of bed.

    • MilaXX

He can still work cute, but hot has left the building.

and it took his hair with him.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Hot has moved decisively on to Prince Harry-every time I see that boy he looks better….

  • John Robison

She remembers her position in the pecking order, and still manages to look good. Apparently, according to a gossipy Brit friend, the Queen has told her it’s okay to jazz it up a bit.

  • KittenKisses

Dull. Completely and utterly dull. SOOOOOOO bored of her. Saw her in the procession today and my eyes drifted straight past her to William. Well, they tried to, my view was blocked with her latest mental hat. That’s all this woman is to me: an ordinary (if very skinny) woman with boring clothes and bizarre headwear.

Camilla and Her Majesty looked perfect, however. I really enjoyed today, such a fab day out.

    • H3ff

Especially bitter today for some reason, are ya Kitten?

      • KittenKisses

Not today, all days when it comes to her. She’s so bland and boring and ugh… Primark Princess.

    • I thought Her Majesty looked wonderful too. Fantastic coat 🙂

      • KittenKisses

Wasn’t it? The hat was gorge as well.

      • yetanotherLaura

Even more fantastic than the coat was the 158 carats of Granny’s Chips, Cullinans III and IV!  If you can’t break out the huge diamonds for your diamond jubilee, when can you?

    • girliecue

One look at her outfit this morning and I nearly fell asleep standing. The shrill voices of the commentators shrieking over each other about how incredibly glamorous, exciting, brilliant and cutting-edge her dress was only made me believe I was truly asleep and dreaming.

  • Scarlet39

    I think she looks lovely

  • Sobaika

    I’m over her monochromatic looks.

  • Lina_bee

I wish I had any confidence that she had a shred of choice in this outfit. Every aspect of the Jubilee has been stage-managed to the last minuscule detail.  She does look pretty, if terribly bland.

  • SpcilK

    The dress fits her beautifully.

  • SapphoPoet

Kate looks lovely and appropriate; as for the shoes, well, she has to stand a lot so I’ll give her a pass. He looks good; does he have more hair than he used to?

    • jessieroset

omg I totally wanted to say something about his hair!  From these angles at least, it sure looks like there’s more up top than there has been.

And I agree on the lovely and appropriate comment.  They both look perfect.

  • Someone hire an assassinator to KILL THOSE SHOES!!!!

    • KittenKisses

lol There was a sniper on the roof of the building opposite me, I was praying he’d aim for that hat. At least, the top part, a beige pillbox would have been fine in my eyes.

      • Yes, don’t particularly like the panty hose spread over a hanger thing going on at the top, and like the bottom just fine. Maybe that would have made this look even more boring though.

  • Judy_J

In that first photo, Prince William looks like he’s got 3 arms and 3 legs.  Took me a minute to figure out that there was another man standing just behind him.  Cathy looks lovely and every inch the princess.  I love this dress, even in that peachy-beige color.  She’s got dark hair…she can wear this color.

  • I can’t help it, I love everything she wears! WERQ it, Cathy Cambridge! And she always looks so happy!

  • SewingSiren

Stunning. She looks like Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy when she married William Cavendish.

  • MRC210

I was going to ask, why does Bill have two hats?  Then I realised that the hat that he seems to be carrying in his right hand is actually being held by someone behind him (which also explains why Bill has 3 legs).

  • Candigirl1968

Pretty, but looks like an outfit for an elegant bride who is getting married for the second time (in the low key civil ceremony rather than that 500 person extravaganza that wound up looking extra crazy when marriage number one only lasted for 18 months).

    • Yes, totally. Bridal, modest, and tasteful, for the mature woman on her 2nd (3rd?, 4th?) marriage.

  • prettybigkitty

It’s so beige on first glance I thought she was wearing a lace half shirt.  The ribbon matches her skin tone.

  • rainwood1

I like the pale color because it shows up quite well against the blue of the carriage interior which is how most people will see her.  A blue dress would have gotten lost in all that blue.

  • rumcg66

I could forgive the dress if she would get rid of those BORING GOD-AWFUL SHOES. They make me all caps-y.

  • She already wore blue for the jubilee, she wore red, off-white and blue, so all the British flag colors.

    • Anna James

Just what I was going to point out. Red for the flotilla, blue for the jubilee concert and now white of a sort for this. Clearly planned, either by her or someone else to represent the colours in the British flag. I think she looks beautiful, as always. She’s not going for exciting in these big royal family events, she’s going for classic, British and beautiful. She wants to appeal to all of England and normal people on these types of events, not fashion people who she has shown she can impress for the showier events. Anyway, clearly I’m a Middleton-apologist!

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I think you’re spot on-on the final day of the diamond jubilee all attention was supposed to be on the Queen, and the Cambridges are part of the supporting cast.  Kate’s been part of this set long enough to know what is appropriate, or to acquiesce on the choice of such a subtle color as beige.

    • Melissa Brogan

Mm. And if she wore straight white it would look over the top bridal. Okay, Cathy, I forgive your non-color.

  • greenwich_matron

I like it, but I am tired of her hat and dress always being the exact same color.

  • MzzPants

I think, for a pale color, that one suits her very well.  She is a part of the royal court, after all, not a movie-pimping red carpet ho’.

  • It pleases me immensely every time I see these two laughing with each other. Go on, you crazy kids.

  • The thing that strikes me about these pictures is just how happy and comfortable Bill and Cathy seem to be with each other. You never saw that with his parents.

  • She’s beautiful in this outfit, and she looks happy, and that’s what matters.  Like most upper class Brits, Catherine understands that you don’t just stick a small hat or fascinator on top of your head, willy nilly.  You dress your hair first, which, in turn, provides a more stable platform for the fascinator.

  • Brendan Schulze

I rather like teh idea of this is a blue, or even a purple. Miss Cathy looks WONDERFUL in more aqua-colored blues, in my mind.

  • snich11

    Damn she’s skinny!

  • Well, it’s probably expected of her to be monochrome, but if I were a princess, I’d be more concerned about looking FIERCE as often as possible.

    • luciaphile

She’s got in-laws and courtiers to deal with. There will be time enough for her to be fierce later on.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Maybe this event had a color code. Like you’re only allowed to wear shades of diamond.

  • golspie

I just don’t like the fussy little hats she wears. Just for once I’d like to see her in a wide brimmed summer hat. I suppose she can’t wear those because then the public can’t see her face.

  • Cathy’s dress looks very beige-y in these photos, but in pictures from other sites the two colors seem more subtly distinct and lean towards a sophisticated taupe rather than the blahness of beige.  The dress doesn’t scream McQueen to me, which I find really interesting.

I’m not a fan of lace in anything but the smallest doses, and I HATE beige, but this outfit works well for the occasion.  Cathy has to look like a senior royal (but a former commoner), Camilla’s protege (but not a rival for media coverage), Will’s wife (but not a woman with Diana-attention-hogging tendencies), Harry’s friend (but only in the most sisterly way), and Granny’s successor (but not before Charles gets his crack at the crown).

The D. of C. wears her work clothes well.  It’s obvious a lot of thought and effort govern her choices.  She wants her husband — and in this case, his beloved Granny — to be the focus, a commendable but nigh impossible wish in our current media obsessive age.

Kudos to Cathy for another job well done.

  • OneTwoThreeFashion

love them both in those attires!

  • OneTwoThreeFashion

they look like cute wedding cake decor!

  • OneTwoThreeFashion

in this outfit her RING POPS!!!!!!!

  • I’m holding her personally responsible for keeping silly putty pumps alive.

  • TSkot

How I hope she nixes hats when she’s queen.  Talk about making someone look older…

    • Maggie_Mae

Given the longevity of the Windsor family, she may not be all that young when she becomes Queen….

  • turtleemily

It’s pale, but she’s not washed-out, so I like it.

  • BazoDee

I agree that she needed to tone it down today and not upstage the queen. The Olympics are coming I’m sure we will get tons of color then.

  • Aside from Sunday’s pageant when the senior royals were wearing red, white and blue (and Catherine could wear red without upstaging grandma-in-law because she blended in so well with the red velvet of the royal barge), they’ve all been wearing a parade of neutrals, so as not to deflect attention from the Queen, who has been wearing a succession of sparkly, silvery outfits as befits a Diamond Jubilee. Everyone of Cathy C’s outfits has to be considered as part the overall ensemble costuming of the senior royal grouping.

I would have loved to see your take on the Queen’s outfits this weekend.  They’re not fashion of course, but within her narrow template, they’ve been absolutely spectacular, with utterly exquisite workmanship and attention to detail (and some quite ravishing jewels and millinery ). They’re clothes which sort of transcend fashion, and I find them fascinating.  It’s also been hugely refreshing to see an 86 year old woman look every single one of her 86 years and yet still look amazingly beautiful.

    • Maggie_Mae

The Times (behind its paywall) went into detail about the embroidery & crystals on the Queen’s outfit.  It would have glittered in the sun–if it hadn’t rained!  Still, she stood out in white & appeared to enjoy the outing….

      • Oh I would have loved to have read that article (I hate the Times’ paywall).  I thought her pale mint green outfit for the parade yesterday was particularly stunning.  I’ve just blogged about her incredible brooch made from the Cullinan diamond – all 160 carats and $120 million of it…

  • RedRaven617

Reading the London Mail, I was surprised to discover that not only the paper did but many people criticized her for wearing the bright color. I still think she looked fabulous as did HRH.

    • Melissa Brogan

Media will find any reason to pick apart celebrities. Especially the Daily Mail.

  • Melissa Brogan

Aside from the shoes, I’m glad at least that hue does not quite match her skin. So I’ll forgive her that.

But girl, you look good in color. Wear some.

  • sagecreek

    Oh, Cathy, that’s aging.

  • Aurumgirl

But those pumps have to come in some other colours.  For the love of Pete.

  • momogus

Respectfully disagree 100%. I think she looks absolutely gorgeous, and the beige has such rosy undertones it doesn’t look washed out at all. I think this is a grand slam (or insert appropriate cricket term here.)

  • She looks great. It would have been better in blue, but she has a role to play.

  • TheDivineMissAnn

The woman can do no wrong in my book.  The dress is gorg.

  • She couldn’t outshine the Queen for her big celebration … Liz was wearing a beautiful ice blue, so Cathy and Camilla had to play bridesmaids so all eyes were on the bride! And did you check out Chuck’s tux?!?!?

  • Lilithcat

It’s actually a good color on her.  It works well with her skin tone.

  • lesmaha

Ok–I actually love the dress, in that shade of beige. I’d love to wear it myself…

  • jeeplibby02

Looks like something a 50-year-old bride would wear to her third wedding.

  • xmixiex

    she’s so perrrrrtyyyyyy

  • NurseEllen

I heard an NPR story about this in which they referred to Cathy as being dressed in “apricot lace”.  The apricots in England must be pretty anemic.  Personally I can’t fathom that this is a McQueen dress–it’s so tame.  But she does look wonderful, and of course the whole point is not to upstage the Queen, so yes, a neutral is a must.

  • I really like the dress, but I agree that a bolder color would have been so much better! I’d settle for some different accessories (those SHOES) at least!

  • I think the dress looks more light in these pics than others I’ve seen. You know what? It’s not her party, and she looked gorgeous. Let her wear beige – for her jubilee, she’ll be in freaking fuschia/orange/purple.

  • Srw27

She looks pretty-and happy-and Bill is looking more and more like his dad.  Poor fella.

  • amyfromnj

She looks perfect…AGAIN!! Oh God, someone please give her a burger. Better yet a donut.

  • They’re both cute as hell and that top hat kills me, but I still wish she’d been allowed to wear a bit of color.  It’s criminal to have such a beautifully put together look rendered all in beige.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

maybe off topic, but bitter kittens should know:  has princess cathy ever worn something sleeveless?  if not, would that be considered offensive and scandalous?  i love that our magnificent first lady’s sleeveless fashion choices are considered bold.  i wonder what would be considered scandal for cathy?  i’d love to see her in some bold, kicky sleeveless top with a really great skirt.  she’s so slim — she has such a model’s body with a beautiful face and the most gorgeous, perfect hair.  i think she’d look fabulous in a really modern graphic print.  maybe she has and i have not seen it.  bitter kittens?

  • guest2visits

She was completely bright and glowing in the carriage ride and the ceremonies I saw today; and alot prettier than these photos.
I like it when she decides to try something more feminine, and less business, like today. But I think you’ve got it right TLo when
you state she is a pretty princess, and she should OWN it. I agree; this dress could have been tweeked into something a bit more
feminine, a bit more grand, a bit more fun, and not have lost the royal qualities required for public occasions.
It would be sad if some day Kate looked back and saw decades of dresses and clothing that was just marginal, or adequate for
the occasion.  She has good taste and has worn some beautiful gowns. Perhaps she can expand or explore with new designers.
(she said; as though this were the easiest thing in the world to do).  They were a pretty couple, today.

  • jmorino08

It looks a lovely shade of pink in other pics I’ve seen floating around. Is that better?

  • ErinnF

Love her. Love that dress. Just gorgeous.

  • I am SO OVER those shoes!!!!

And am I the only one who thinks that it’s totally sad that Wills now possesses a horse face? DNA will out, and the Windsors won on this one. Back when he was a teen and in his early 20s, he totally looked like Diana. Now? Not so much.

  • eight_of_nine

I love that she wears so much Alexander McQueen.  Usually we associate that name with edgier stuff (or I do, at least) but it’s cool to see the softer and more elegant looks too.

  • quiltrx

She looks gorgeous, and he looks like a little piece of heaven in a top hat.  Adorable.

  • travelingcat

Her best accessory is that fantastic smile, how lovely.

  • She is always pleased to be out there, happy with her husband and in-laws, and always has a smile on her face. Love her.

  • Elizabeth Anderson

It’s interesting to note that on all 3 of Kate’s balcony appearances, she is wearing a white or neutral McQueen garment.

  • The hat made of pantyhose looped over wires probably cost more than my car. So, so sad.

    • yetanotherLaura

I read somewhere that the hat cost £790, or about $1200.  So I doubt it cost more than your car.

Her *dress,* on the other hand….

      • I’ve owned some pretty crappy cars, but I could trade my current one in for about five of those hats. Or one of those dresses. I may start thinking of cars in units of pantyhose hat.

      • I’ve owned some pretty crappy cars, but I could trade my current one in for about five of those hats. Or one of those dresses. I may start thinking of cars in units of pantyhose hat.

  • LuisaNL

she looks lovely! and that smile is always her best accessory, I love it that she always looks like she’s having fun.

  • Erm, she was going to church in Saint Paul’s Cathedral for the Queen’s diamond jubilee service – the colour was ENTIRELY appropriate. The idea is to blend if the event is for the Queen – she is VERY good at getting it right – yay Kate

  • NNgela

    lmao “Magic Royal Boat Ride.”

  • lrhoff

After looking at how happy this couple is — laughing and sincerely smiling at/with each other — I didn’t even care about the clothes.  That’s the most impressive part about their outfits…the confidence and realness with which they wear them.  How refreshing.

  • NilBlur

I think the color is beautiful and I wouldn’t call it beige.  It’s pinker than beige, maybe a shell color.  I also think the fact that it’s “broken” color with the whitish background under the lace makes it more interesting than “beige” suggests.  Fit, length, the ribbony belt, the design in general all look very good to me.  The problems for me with her are always the hats, the hair and the makeup.  All make her look old.  I guess the hats are a requirement (?) but they’re always dowdy.  The net especially.  And the wired, gathered, nylon-looking discs.  They look like flowers you’d make in bible school.  And I guess they’re by some great milliner.  I really think there must be more youthful millinery out there.  Jackie or Anna or Diana (Vreeland) would never have worn this hat. Too much going on.  If you just visually edit out the net and the discs so it’s just the little pancake, it’s much better, in my opinion.  She needs a haircut.  Her makeup is always too dark, especially around the eyes.  It ages her.  She never looks fresh and young, and she IS young.  My thoughts.

  • Judy_S

I felt this dress was an homage to 60 or maybe 100 or maybe 160 years of royal fashion. She is probably the prettiest royal ever to have worn prim beige lace, though Queen Alexandra might give her a run.

  • Jecca2244

As a lady I have to say this dress is amazing and sometimes you just need something neutral colored. it is harder to find good neutral toned dresses thatn one would think and espeically those that are inexpensive, but don’t look cheap.

  • She obviously worked very hard to not upstage the Queen and if there is ever a time to dress demurely, it’s on your conservative gram’s special day.

  • egl48

    Gorgeous girl!

I love it. I think the color looks very pretty against her skin.
William is a cutie. I love the way he looks at her. He’s probably thinking, I’m the luckiest bloke alive.

Great dress! I love her best in color, too, but this was Mum-in-Law’s weekend, and the rest of the clan had to let HRH take the lead.

Let’s face it, with the diamonds Her Majesty was sporting, nobody else had a chance. It is SO hard to outclass someone in a couple thousand carats, covered with medals, wearing a tiara and riding around in a golden horse-drawn carriage!

I wonder if the beige was a deliberate choice so that she wouldn’t upstage Grandma Betty’s big day.

    • Maggie_Mae

      Of course it was!

Elegant and loevly for a daytime appearance.  And such a great match to the totally darling Prince W.  Don’t you just want to pinch his cheeks?

Duchess Cathy has found the most comfortable neutral shoes in the universe and by God, she’s going to wear them.  I love the dress and the whole look.  She was taken to task by some bitter British tabloids about wearing the red dress on the floatilla, accusing her of trying to upstage the Queen, so I guess she demured and went back to her beige safety zone.  Billy looks awfully cute in his morning suit.  Pip pip!!

Boring. And she is sinking into herself. Don’t know how she is going to get preg…OOPS!! Sorry.

Sometimes I think she dresses down so we’ll notice how Damned Adorable her Prince is. This is one of those times.

Because of your comments, now I picture her wearing the same fabric as the royal couches when she’s reciving the Queen in their home. But you’re right: she’s wearing same the color of the concrete columns of the building behind them. What’s next, if he’s going hunting she’ll wear a ‘commando’ fabric? Let’s try a little experiment: next time I see photos like this, I’ll mentally photoshop her in a Lady Gaga’s outfit.
Royal duties! how surreal is that?

I like the dress very much.  Not the hat.  Not at all.

  • This so English, I can’t even handle it.

I’m sort of digging the unibeige, oddly enough.  But that ends with the shoes.  A pop of color there would have been really fabulous.

  • It’s a shame that all of the hubbub & politics surrounding her new station in life keep her from truly breaking out. But, regardless, that face is snatched, that dress is sitting, and that hat is perched.   She’s the picture of perfection and she is styled for the royal gods.
