Andrew Garfield in Gucci

Posted on June 27, 2012

“Credit where it’s due” time, darlings. He’s been disappointing us left and right on the Spider-pole-dance tour, but we’re willing to forgive everything just for wearing this one outfit.

The Amazing Spider-man Andrew Garfield makes an appearance on the “Late Show with David Letterman” in New York City in a Gucci suit.

Gucci Spring 2012 Collection

Knocked it the fuck out of the park, we’d say. The jacket’s a bit long on him, but otherwise this is a perfect look. Nicely done. Point us at the bitches we have to cut to get that suit.

I’ll forgive him for the hands stuffed in the pockets because he’s on the sidewalk, not the RC, but I would have loved to see one clean shot of the suit with his hands at his side.  Because that is one sharp look.

  • AlinaValero

    do men get a “MERQ”?

  • gabbilevy

His usually impressively suave head of hair is starting to cross the line into douche territory. And that suit would be a whole lot sexier if it weren’t all hands-in-pockets lumpy… you know what? I’m just being grumpy. Guy looks good.

  • demidaemon

    Finally, he shaved!

  • Pants are WAY too short.

    • Sartorial_She

I thought so too…but are we sure that’s not how they’re supposed to be with this ultra-skinny (for a suit) cut?  It works on the runway, but then again the model is sockless. Looks kinda silly and Andrew here.

      • fursa_saida

I think they were trying to go for that look and failing. The model’s pants are subtly cuffed (I’m preeeetty sure); can’t tell if his are.

Alternately, maybe they didn’t want that look but he’s still just too damn tall.

  • butterflysunita

Nice suit, but he’s not really setting my world on fire.

  • mozzer0906

GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR POCKETS!  ugh.  Great suit, he looks fabulous, but I really wish he’d stop jiggling his beans long enough to get a good shot of the lines of it.

  • vanjar

Nice, very nice indeed. Perfect hem, great plaid, good colour and I love the footwear.

  • Christine Marie

I’m not sure how I feel about this one. His legs look like toothpicks in this suit. Cute, though.

    • Clueless_Jock

Agree about the toothpick legs but otherwise the suit looks good.

    • Amy Ellinger

Agreed. I get jealous if a guy’s ankles are more dainty than mine.

  • Rand Ortega

    Very nice.

  • ChloeElizabeth

All I have to say is what the fuck is the photographer standing on? Or is is 8 foot 11.

  • Saucysusan

The pants are a tad short on the runway too. Pretty sure that’s the appropriate “Hipster” dress code. Nice plaid!

  • MilaXX

He’s one of those people I liked right until he opened his mouth. Now I just want him to go away. I saw him on Letterman last night and wondered what T & Lo would say about the outfit, but 2 mins in I had to turn.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Andrew’s definitely working that suit so much better than the runway model did.

  • DaveinAlamitosBeach

Thank God he’s wearing socks.  If not, he would slip into that dreaded d-word territory.

  • I can’t tell whether the pants are a tad short, or if stuffing his hands in his pockets is jacking them up.

  • unbornfawn

He looks better than the model! Probably will never say that again.

  • Beardslee

He can wear a suit like that without looking like he’s in a big boy costume.  He looks great!

  • Little_Olive

Supercute suit. Hate the skinny leg on the pants (granted, it would look ridic with a wide leg).

  • TieDye64

Love this suit so much and he really does look sharp as hell. Got the shoes right too.

  • janetjb

  • sherrietee

I’m just glad he didn’t copy the model and decided to wear socks.

  • Lina_bee

Now THAT is a well-deployed plaid, skinny-legged suit. Stylist WIN!

  • formerlyAnon

Excellent work!!  I believe I now have the inner strength to see another half dozen photos of him plugging the movie.

The shoes are the perfect touch to keep this looking thoroughly on the ‘grown man’ side of the line.

  • H3ff

I love the fit of those trousers. MERQ, you cute skinny pixie man.

  • kimmeister

So funny to see him this way after I just saw the 2007 episodes of Doctor Who in which he plays an American country bumpkin from the 30’s.

    • formerlyAnon

I just read that as “the 2,007 episodes of Dr. Who in which he plays . .” and actually started the thought “Wait, I don’t remember a recurring American guy character who lasted that . . .” before my brain recalibrated to the YEAR 2007.

Maybe I’m more tired than I thought.

  • BradWatson

One more zhuzh of the tie would have made a big difference. But not bad.

  • tereliz

Killer. If he wasn’t ever-so-slightly rumpled, he’d look better than the model, if I dare say. (he IS wearing socks. go socks!)

  • MsKitty

    Thumbs up

  • Pants_are_a_must

I’m still wondering what’s up with his eyebrows, and why they’re trying to give him early frown lines, but this look is really good.

Normally it’s Chris Evans who rocks the Gucci plaids, but I can’t see this on any guy who isn’t a beanpole and looks like he should be traveling in a TARDIS.

  • Spicytomato1

I’m all for slim cut pants and think more guys should give them a whirl but these are verging on too skinny. He looks like a cartoon character with skinny minny legs, not a look I’d imagine he was consciously trying to achieve.

  • Lilithcat

The pants are way too skinny.  They make him look as though he’s wearing winklepickers on his feet.

    • clairellis

      What’s a winklepicker?

      • Spicytomato1

I was wondering the same thing!

        • Lilithcat

A shoe with a long pointed toe, like this.

          • boweryboy

Oh my god.  Those shoes were all the rage at my fashion design school in the late 80s.  Bonus points if you could afford a John Fleuvog pair.

            I feel old now.

ETA: I think they’re sexy on the right man.

  • clairellis

Compared to the other shit he’s been wearing this is gold.

  • giiiirrrr

Fab!  Truly a fantastic suit.  For the shoe I’d prefer a more rounded or squared-off toe – the point ones with the skinny pants are making his feet look enormous.  But that’s a nitpick, cause, fab.

    • boweryboy

I’m not loving the shoe either.  I would have preferred a lace-up instead.

  • Judy Raddue

I wouldn’t be too congratulatory.  Imagine what this would look like on Ewan McGregor… (Excuse me while I drool…)

    • tereliz

Except that Ewan could have pulled it off with an ascot and sockless and we’d still be drooling!

  • jw_ny

I also really like the suit…skinny leg pants tho…not on me.  Andy looks really pretty great, this time.  😉

  • Damn, where is he going?  Love it.  Love the SHOES!

  • GillianHolroyd

On a scale of 1-10, this is an 11.

  • nannypoo

He’d look better without a pound of Crisco in his hair.

    • Lilak

(Thanks for resurrecting the Calvin & Hobbes “school picture”  —  you made my day!)

  • guest2visits

I love this on him. He was warm and personable in the interview too.

  • That is seriously perfect. What a great suit. Love the shoes too.

  • Dear Mr. Garfield: Thank you SO MUCH for wearing socks.  I will never understand the men’s not wearing socks in mid summer fashion, as then someone has to deal with the horrible stench later.

Oh, and you look hot. Thanks.  🙂

  • boweryboy

For the most part I think he’s an insufferable bobblehead.

However, these photos prove the age old adage of clothes making the man.

    He looks downright delicious.

  • quiltrx

Great suit!  And his hair is serving up the Andy awesomeness I expect.  Snaps up!

  • alleluia, it looks like he shaved!  love the suit, but his face is a turn-off to me, even clean-shaven.  just not my type.

  • Ugh, you again.

  • ThaliaMenninger

    Don’t like that hair, though.

  • MzzPants

THAT’s how you rock a plaid suit.

  • That suit is pretty much made for him.

  • Sorry. This does nothing for me. The colors in the plaid all look like they’re fighting with each other.

  • Lilyana_F

Yesss! This is what I’ve been waiting for from him! *snap* *snap*

  • that man has really skinny calves.

  • PeggyOC

He, Alan Cummings and Matt Smith are the only three men on the planet who can wear this suit.

  • Looks better on him than the model.  It’s full of win ;-).

  • SapphoPoet

The pants look a skoosh short to me, but perhaps that’s because his hands are in his pockets. Otherwise, razor-sharp.

  • Ann

Fabulous… and makes the model look like  slob! Well done!

  • TheOriginalLulu

Love it. He looks so handsome. And no strange facial expressions. He knows he looks damn good.

  • Qitkat

What a gorgeous suit. He looks miles better than the model. I agree the jacket is a bit too long. Perhaps this is why his hands are in his pockets, the sleeves are ever so much pushed up on his arms, and would also hang too long with his arms down his sides.
I’d love to see a woman’s suit made in this fabric.

  • EEKstl

Honestly, I’d give him a WERQ for this one.  Pants could be a wee bit longer, but other than that, flawless.

  • golspie

I confess I don’t understand Tom and Lorenzo’s fascination with this guy. Even with the padded shoulders of this outfit, he looks like a newt in newsreader’s wig three sizes too large for his head.

  • frankystein123

Credit where it’s due I guess.

  • ccm800

Yep looks good. SO NOT Peter Parker its ridiculous.
