Alexander McQueen Resort 2013 Collection

Posted on June 26, 2012

To hell with it. We’re sending you your pretty for the day RIGHT NOW.

And if you don’t think the Alexander McQueen Resort 2013 collection is pretty, we will weep salty tears. Over your lack of taste and inability to appreciate beauty.

Okay, no. We’ll be nice. But we’ll still think of you “that way.”

It’s a gorgeously tailored collection, contoured to the body, with extreme proportions like elongated legs and peaked shoulders. Very much in that androgynous Bowie manner, which is where Sarah Burton got her inspiration, along with Art Deco and Gustav Klimt, the latter of whom practically supplied his aesthetic DNA for the gorgeous golden metallic pieces. It’s all dramatic as hell in that manner we expect from anything with the McQueen name on it.

Miss Swinton, your wardrobe for the season has arrived. Where shall we put it?

  • Fourth row, middle picture — the new ladies’ power suit?  I’m in love with it.  The whole collection has a badass, Sin City-esque feel to it.

    • kimmeister

I LOVE that “power suit.”  If only I worked in a place where I could actually pull off wearing that to work!

      • A. W.

There is no place like that in the world, other than maybe a fashion magazine. 🙁

        • j_anson

Hahaha. Word. It’s pretty and visually striking on the model, but yeah. Wouldn’t work in any setting I frequent (or on any woman I know).

      • I say wear it anyplace anyway. I worked at a software company for a while and once I wore a grey wool super 70’s cut Lanvin suit for a big company meeting. There was a woman in that meeting who bought her leopard print snuggie to the conference room. I still felt fabulous.

        • lord, leopard print snuggie. that’s all I can say to that story.

    • joything

Mygod, YES. And the black high pants – white shirt in the row above.  POWER.

    • Sin City, ey?  I remember that movie filled with a lot hookers … ;D

  • That final dress. Good god that’s beautiful.

    • Violina23

    • TheDivineMissAnn

Agree!  The dress before it is beautiful too, in spite of the very weird posture.

  • SapphoPoet

This is a pretty fancy resort, I must say. Love this collection, especially the metallics and bronzes. The Klimt fabric is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.

  • kingderella

im BLINDED by the beauty of the jumpsuit that opens this post. BLINDED!

    • I KNOW, which is weird because I hate jumspuits with a passion.

I love this collection so much I wan’t to make a pile with all the outfits and roll around in it… weeping because none of them fit.

  • Rand Ortega

It’s so… Swinton. Can’t wait to see which looks she chooses. This is gorgeous. All of it. Full. Stop.

    • howdoilook

I was just coming to say the same!

    • emcat8

And Cate, too. I expect to see her in the gowns soon.

  • poggi

I really love the two gold textured/print gowns and can see the on the red carpet. The pant suits are certainly harder to wear but would be very striking on the right incredibly tall woman. Very cool collection.

  • 3rd row, first dress is my favorite.  No I take that back, I love it all.

    • Spreecord

I want the entire collection boxed up and sent to my house, along with the body to look good in it all. STAT.

  • Yves Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking called. It thinks you’re fabulous and it wants to do lunch.

    • Deb_Lynn

  • Kate4queen

    Beautiful. 🙂

  • Stand up straight, young lady.

  • AudreysMom

I say Tilda’s splits the collection with Cate. With Cate taking most of the dresses, except for one of the gold numbers toward the end.

    • RebeccaKW

I think Zoe could wear a couple of them.

    • kingderella

this is kind of out of nowhere, but wouldnt anna torv look good in some of those? lady can rock a power suit!

      • Rand Ortega

What about Flo Welch? Is it too structured for her? I can see her in look 8, 12 & 18, but that may be wishful thinking. Her look is becoming a bit too “aerie” for me of late.

    • TieDye64

      Absolutely. This needs to happen.

  • Where do I find a waist? Seems like I need one

    • pattyw

FLOTUS can give you some advice.

      • out for a walk

FLOTUS should totally wear that second-to-last dress. To the next inaugural ball perhaps.

    • formerlyAnon

Don’t forget to grow your legs, while you’re at it!

      • Rand Ortega

They don’t call it “Miracle Gro” for nothin’!
        (Insert rimshot here)

  • stunningstunningstunning

  • These are breathtaking! Love it!

  • understateddiva

Ms. Burton, you outdid yourself.  And that takes a lot.

  • Calinda_L

I wish that Cathy Cambridge would extend her McQueen wardrobe to include some of these pieces. Not the Swintonier pieces (she *is* going to be queen one day, after all), but some of these would be ammmmmazing on her.

    • I was thinking the same thing! Get her in some of this and spice it up a little.

    • A. W.

Cathy is way too vanilla. All these pieces need someone with an edge to wear them, and the only edge Cathy has is her collarbones.

      • out for a walk

I think there are a few she could pull off, but she probably can’t have her hair in her normal style. But the dress in the third row, on the left? I could see her in that!

  • IAmJ

I am breathless. So much beauty here.

  • Give me one of everything.  I’d look terrible in all of it.  Doesn’t matter.

  • kimmeister

Holy crap I love almost everything (everything but that first jumpsuit, which makes the model look strangely bow-legged.)

I like the pieces with the circular metallic thing at the waist – reminds me of Iron Man’s power source thingy!

  • shopgirl716

LOVE the clothes but, where is this resort?

    • JasmineAM

In my dreams! I WANT IT ALL.

    •  On Mars.

  • Model looks like precious insect. Swintonian to a T.

  • fashionzombie

  • Stiltwalker challenge done right.

  • MmmmmmmmK

BOWIE the god himself should wear them.  They scare me, they’re for such a skinny person.

  • SpcilK

SWOON! Beautiful collection and the Belts… My God the BELTS!

  • Clueless_Jock

    Very 70s, no?

    • formerlyAnon

  • and THAT is how you do beautiful. not the marchesa over-the-top and tacky cloth(e)s.

  • Knightley

Oh God.  That dress at the end……..

  • marilyn

I am not sure which resort these clothes are intended for, but it must be very formal.  Also, that 7 foot tall, 90 pound younger sister of David Bowie (aka Runway Model) is probably the only person on the planet who can wear these clothes.

    • emcat8

Well, back in the day, I was 7 feet tall and relatively height/weight proportional, not skinny (though I was for a brief time), and I could have totally rocked those pants and jackets. I have really broad shoulders and a narrow waist compared to hips/shoulders, and so clothes hung on me very well. I think the 90 pound look is also part Photoshop, to tell you the truth, but yeah, they don’t really make couture for size 12s these days — everything is being cut down farther and farther (which is funny, since most women are getting larger).

  • Valdri8

It is absolutely magnificent. The model is too fucking thin(sorry), but these clothes are just to swoon to. How can some stars wear such drivel when this exists. I just do not get it.

I just instructed a bestie that should I die to sell everything I have and bury me in the final dress.

    • A. W.

I agree, the model is a little frighteningly thin (with no hips to speak of) so it makes me question the ability of a normal human to wear ANY of this and look good… which is probably good, it’s all so perfect that anyone other than Tilda should stay away!

  • schadenfreudelicious

good gawd those black/white suit combo’s are to die for…swooning….

    • formerlyAnon

The tragedy is that even at my thinnest, I’d look like a square little beetle in those shoulders, one with short little legs for locomotion.

SO glad I’m not looking at these things as a young teen. The first time around was bad enough.

  • Only one model can wear each of these garments?  I know that’s the wrong thing to be fixated about but what can I say – I noticed.  The clothes are to die for, of course.

  • MilaXX

Does that first pic make anyone else say, “Giddiy -yap cowboy!”  ? It;s like the model is doing the stick the leg out the split pose in pants. Nice collection, but I hope and pray all the lady celebs leave #10 on the runway.

  • PinkLemon

#$%^&*((*&^%$….oh, sorry. i just fell on the keyboard from a FASHION INDUCED FAINT. LOVE.

  • Lina_bee

    *grabby hands*

This is GLORIOUS. There are PANTS! There are silvers, golds, and coppers!  There are ALL of my favorite Deco motifs!  *adores madly*  However, the model is distractingly TERRIBLE.

  • Jennifer L.

Let’s see. Zoe Saldana in the 1st Black/gold evening gown, Fan Bing Bing in the last one. And I will grow six inches taller and take the dragonfly pantsuit.

    • formerlyAnon

       You go, girl.

  • AmandaCathleen

I will never find bell bottoms chic, but those gowns sure are gorgeous.

  • lesmaha

WOW is all I can say. I’m gobsmacked! Love it!!

  • PeggyOC

    Love-child of Swinton and Bowie.

  • StelledelMare

Give me one of everything and maybe 2 of each of the dresses just because.

  • rkdgal

    Gagging on gorgeousity!

  • Eff YES. Especially the last two.

  • mjude

  • vanjar

I want all the black&white suits. Tilda can have the rest.

  • It kills me that the beautiful gold fabric with the botanical embroidery is used in service of that evil, ugly jumpsuit. Wish I could see it as a dress or tailored suit.

  • another_laura

Beautiful and love those suits!  I do think that the very large waist treatments are going to have to be translated for those wearers who are not 5’10” but this is quibbling.

  • kikisayshi

Cripes, is this girl eight feet tall? Love the white dress with the silver medallion, and the metallic wrapped halter(?) dress in the row below. Oh, and this one… And that one… Pretty much all of it.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Oh.My.God. there is not one piece that I don’t like, and yes, I can see Tilda Swinton in so many of these. Love, love, love.

  • carolynmo

Now, THIS is good stuff–love everything, especially the gowns.

  • That last dress, last shot…..breath-taking. Literally stopped me in my tracks.

  • Breathtaking. Love it.

  • padma sallah

Those gowns are SO gorgeous. And I covet the high waisted pants with the frilly white and gold blouse. Even though pulling it off means I’d have to be a really tall pipe. ( This is of course possible if I only had the funds to purchase it but I dont. So there’s that.)

  • PaulaBerman

I love it all, except the floral, which looks like Dorothy Zbornak’s deck couch. Question: does this mean flares are coming back? I just started switching over to boot cuts and skinnies!

  • Eclectic Mayhem

love it, love it, love it.

Some of it is making me think of David Bowie but that’s no bad thing…

  • Lilithcat

Miss Swinton, your wardrobe for the season has arrived.

So funny, because that was my exact thought when I saw the thumbnail, even before I opened the post.

The Klimt inspiration is appropriate, as this is his 150th birthday year.  (July 14, to be exact.)

  • bluefish

Very nice — and different.  But also very YSL — which is always a very good thing.

  • kittenwithaquip

The collection is beautiful, but there is some fucked-up funhouse mirror shit going on with the model/Photoshop. It’s really, really off-putting, and makes me feel like the art director was huffing paint.

  • Le_Sigh

Oh that black and white suit.  swoon.

  • PastryGoddess

You know Sookie Stackhouse is going to want to wear that black and gold tiered frock and won’t pull it off.  Salma Hayek also has to get in one of those dresses, since her husband owns the brand and all

  • formerlyAnon

There’s some awesome FABRIC in this collection. I mean, I imagine there’s lots of awesome fabric in high-end designer collections, but so rarely does it come across in photos.

VERY partial to the middle one in row 5 and the final gown. Yum. Richness.

Otherwise, like the pants outfits best. It’s an exaggerated silhouette to which I am very partial. [Marked by the late ’60s & ’70s, yes.]

  • AlinaValero

Jennifer Lawrence in the last dress? if she’s still pulling girl on fire appearances? I see it.

  • IMNAngryLiberal

Beautiful fabrics and some beautiful pieces, but those pantsuits with the peaked shoulders and flared legs are prime candidates for someone’s future “What in the hell was I thinking” scrapbook.  I know this because they are reminiscent of a pantsuit I owned a few decades ago.

    • formerlyAnon

       Oh yeah.

  • afabulous50

What I wouldn’t give to be able to wear these clothes.
    I wouldn’t trade away my puppies….but I digress….gorgeous!

  • clairellis

Last dress is my fav for sure but the rest is beautiful.

  • inprovo

    Stand up straight!

  • tereliz

I’ve just GOT to have those satin dragonfly trousers!  #wordsIthoughtI’dneversay

  • Judy_J

    Gorgeous, and totally Tilda.

  • Imasewsure

I think Ann Hathaway could work some of these (if she is willing and able to work on stilts of course). Hope these looks are not wasted on minor celebrities… maybe they could kick a couple of pieces over to Iman too (I would never say kick down to Iman of course)… beautiful!!

  • michelle shields

I can’t stop looking. Oh how I worship thee!

  • jaw-droppingly gorgeous. all of it. i bow to the mcqueen.

  • fursa_saida

  • guest2visits

It’s all very dramatic; in a peaceful, serene kind of way.  Hope to see alot of people trying these.
Still don’t like the pants hitting the floor, it just looks clumsy; and besides i’d like to see the shoes.

  • j_anson

    Those last four gowns. WOW.

  • joything

    WANT. The whole thing.  Ohmigod.

  • TieDye64

  • lbl

Sucks that Taylor Swift has the height and body to wear these looks but not the attitude.

  • If I were a designer, I’d get the hell out of the business if I saw these. Good GOD.

  • SWINTON!!!!!

  • Those last four gowns? HOLY SHIT.

  • golspie

Strange and superb – but at what resort would you wear these?

  • Jecca2244

Swinton and Blanchett…and maybe Paula Patton in the strapless dress? Emma Stone in the last one.

  • You know Swinton will stare down anyone who dare approach any of these and you don’t want Swinton to stare you down.

  • alyce1213

    Stunning and original. Love.

  • LesYeuxHiboux

    Oh. My. God.

Why don’t they make fashion trading cards? I want to carry these around in my pocket and look at them every time I start feeling gloomy. I don’t see anything I don’t like.

I see Swinton, I see Flo, I see Janelle Monae in that pantsuit with the white lapels.

    • Pennymac

Oh hell, what a good idea! I’d really like it if there were fashion playing cards.  “I’ve got a black and white McQueen suit; have you got a Swinton?” GO FISH!

      • PeaceBang

Yes!! Manufacture those right away, someone! How fun!

  • I would crawl over dead babies for any or all of those final four gowns. Holy hell, those are beautiful. I love the black and white suits, too. The whole collection is pretty spectacular.

  • Amy Ellinger

Christ on a Cracker. One of the best McQueen Collections, hands down.  Bra-effing-va, Ms. Burton.

Didn’t think I could love McQueen more than I already do, but this has taken it to a whole other level.

  • Anne Lucchesi

Why do I immediately picture Jessica Chastain not quite pulling these off? SWINTON, indeed.

  • Alisa Rivera

The clothes are incredible but the model is bugging the shit out of me. She looks 12 and scared. They needed a model who could WERQ the shit out of this collection.

    • AthenaJ

I don’t know, I think she’s actually giving some good, varied expressions – much better than bitchy or vacant like most other collection models.

  • frankystein123

    Completely drool-worthy.

  • Amy

More like Breathtaking for the Day!

  • Literally breath-taking. Wow. That Sarah B.’s got one basket-load of talent. I will look at this several times today ….and tomorrow …and the next day. I can’t wait to see Tilda wear it or anyone else. I’m so nuts for those pantsuits that I am havinga visceral reaction.  Did I already say, ‘wow!’?

  • Candigirl1968

These are interesting and lovely.  I see Janelle Monet in the black and white numbers and Rooney in the last one.

  • Joanie Hunt

First and third suits in the first row. WOW! I want so terribly to be willowy right now.

  • jabes

I love the dresses, but the trousers are not my cup of tea. Actually, I think they’re ugly as sin.

  • I once saw an interview with Alexander McQueen where he said that he thought the house should die when the designer died. I think of that whenever I see any new collections from the house of McQueen :(.

  • Jessica O’Connell

Oooo preeetty :-D. Seriously though, from the action pieces down to the styling of the model, it’s like it was made for Tilda Swinton!

  • Gorgeous! I’m totally in love with the black suit-white trim. The others with prints are also spectacular.

  • silaria

Ohmygods, this is gorgeous.  I want to be that girl and wear those clothes.  I suddenly feel so un-fabulous.

  • granddelusion

    Hoot! Those pants!

  • sleepycat

Stunning favorite resort collection this season

  • RzYoung

Feast for the eyes! Can’t see Cathy Cambridge in them though…

  • mozzer0906

    Stunning.  Positively stunning.

  • Love. Lovelovelove. I was loving the silver dragonfly print. But the gold and black gown? TO DIE FOR.

  • aimee_parrott

This is like magic for the eyeballs.  The shapes are just hynotic and gorgeous and strange.  I love everything about it.

  • PeaceBang

OH MY FREAKING GOD. I want to go wherever people are wearing this collection. I want to stare at them for many, many hours and sigh with deep happiness. Love this love love love. Not for mere mortals, but then again – it’s McQueen.

  • Qitkat

WHOA! Bowie, Art Deco, and Klimt? Sigh. Magnificent, structured, incredibly detailed and precise, amazing fabrics and construction. I have always wanted to break into the McQueen storage vault, to caress and marvel at the unearthly beauty, to lose myself in the poetic dreaminess of such talent and exquisite imagination. And dragonflies. Handcuff me now.

  • Maddie Meyers

I love the model:  she’s got twenty ex[ressions and they all say “annoyed.”

  • Snarky_Amber

    So. fucking. fabulous.

  • ZOMG. The dragonfly print suit is to DIE for! I love the nods to the past with the dress necklines! I will arm wrestle Tilda for the rights to this collection!

  • bitterk

Makes me want to drop two sizes
