2012 MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet – Part 1

Posted on June 04, 2012

Darlings, it was the MTV Movie Awards! And you’re not gonna know who half of these underdressed attention whores are! There’s a metric shit-tonne of these bitches, so don’t be surprised if we restrict our assessments to as little as one word.

Alexander Ludwig

Bad enough he’s under-dressed, but that jacket is too small for him.

Amy Paffrath

 Coffin lining.

Andrew Garfield in Prada

 Cute.

Casey LaBow

 Tacky-ass.

Channing Tatum in Joe’s Jeans

Cute, but a little too undone for the RC. Also, cuffed jeans tend to make the wearer look short when shot from the standard RC angle.

Charlize Theron in Lanvin

 Dead perfect.

Christian Ricci in Christian Siriano

So apparently Christian designed this dress in collaboration with Timex or something like that. It’s all kind of vague. It’s all right. Looks a bit Project Runway-ish.

Crystal Reed in Issa London

Pretty, but a bit heavy-looking and serious for this event.

Holland Roden in Mandalay

 Standard.

Julianne Hough in Sally LaPointe

Awful. She’s obviously got a great bod, but her shape is not right for this dress. Girl, That is TOTALLY Not Your Dress.

Kat Graham in Maria Lucia Hohan

A bit much for the event, but hey, at least she put the effort in.

Kathryn McCormick

Cute enough The shoes are kind of ugly.

Kristen Stewart in Guishem

Pretty much her signature look. The dress is a bit much, but it’s perfect for her.

Logan Lerman in Balenciaga

We were going to complain about untucking Balenciaga, but scroll up and compare him to Channing Tatum. Logan looks downright impeccable in comparison. And we love these colors on him.

Louise Roe in David Meister

 Looks like a bedspread.

Martha MacIsaac in Katharine Kidd

 Looks like a sheet.

Nikki Reed in Randi Rahm

She looks like she’s stopping by on her way home from the Glamour Magazine Women of the Year luncheon.

Tyler Posey

Assuming those are jeans (and thus, not subject to dress pant hem length rules), this is pretty close to perfect.

OY. What a huge pile of nas-tay.  Only Chalize, (bless her) managed it.  I do like Christina’s dress a fair amount. And I really want to spank Logan for wearing such impeccably made clothes in such a slouchy way.  He’s wearing effing BALENICAGA ferchrisakes!  Tuck the damned shirt in and get those pants hemmed. Crystal Reed, I love her dress, its those eye searing frankenshuz that kill it. But most of these losers, I just can’t even,….

“Coffin lining” made my day. Charlize came here to school these babywhores.

    • http://theargiehome.blogspot.com/ Gus Casals

Crystal Reed dress is serious? What about her face?
Girl, you make KStew look like a cheerleader on speed.

      • http://joyouslifesf.wordpress.com Kiltdntiltd

Thang Kew.  She looks like she just lost her last imaginary friend.

      • In_Stitches

Bahahaha, exactly.  She looks like a Miss America contestant who just found out her favorite flavor of froyo has 45 grams of fat in it.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/ZFKRECRF5BOBWB4RXAJGI4D6KA mmc

When you see “MTV” in the post title, you know you can count on a lot of OMG.

    • lamamu

Why does everyone look so boring and same-y? (Except for Charlize, of course.)

    • Beardslee

      Who ARE these people?
I can’t believe I’m saying this but the one I think looks the best is Kristen Stewart.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Sponge/100000465550991 Bob Sponge

Charlize Theron kicks asses. Fierce! *snap*

    • BazoDee

WOW- what a dreadful red carpet! i hope the rest are better. Charlize is the only saving grace and maybe K.Stew. The rest of them -YIKES!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

Bwah ha ha … I said “coffin lining,” and so did you!  (validates me ;-)   KStew is kinda coming into her own FINALLY.

    • Little_Olive

Oh man, I never thought I’d be saying that KStew is the best dressed! it suits her, it’s appropriate for the event and cute enough on its own (Charlize aside, as she belongs in a whole other pack IMO).

The rest of the ladies I’m embarrassed about.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=678337501 Carla Axtman

Who the F are these people and why do I feel like I just watched the marching of a Clown Car Parade? (Except Charlize–who brought the goddess)

    • gdougs

Why is Christina Ricci’s hand being so awkward?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sierra-Delta/100003182924700 Sierra Delta

And why is the debris field on the right side of her dress threatening to expose her upper ladyparts?

    • susu11

I don’t think I’m that old (i’m in my mid twenties) but I have no friggin’ clue who half these people are, why they are ‘famous’, and why they are dress so tacky. Charlize Theron looks like every inch of the South African goddess she is in that Lavin number, so that’s one good thing going on at this red carpet.

    • schadenfreudelicious

Charlize has no real competition here, and i love the fact that she seems to have totally eschewed platforms for her red carpet appearances…yay!

      • Sobaika

Well, it’s not like she needs them. She’s very statuesque and was towering over Fassbender at the show.
Yes, I watched it. It was mind-numbing.

        • schadenfreudelicious

no she certainly doesn’t need the height, i meant more that she still seems to favor a high heel, just sans the platform…(though i suppose they provide that “extra” lift for the shorter gals)

        • MilaXX

I watched the first half, then couldn’t take it anymore and turned to Mad Men.

    • mjude

what has happened to mtv, everyone is so flipping mainstream.  coffin lining…LOL

    • charlotte

The awkward moment when you are 22 and don’t know most of these people.

      • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Honey, try it at 22 plus a couple of decades!  I have NO.CLUE.  Well, except Charlize, of course.

    • Kristy Evans

Wow, I don’t know who half these kids are. I am old. But seriously, K.Stew looked great. Mainly because she had a big smile on her face instead of her general sullen expression.

    • Kimbolina

Why is everything so… boring??  I mean, it’s MTV.  I would rather have crazy-fug than generic/boring tackiness.  Though I guess the crazy is usually for the VMAs as opposed to movie awards.  But still!

    • Lina_bee

Oh, MTV. This group of “stars” is more obscure than EVER. What the hell?

    • MilaXX

Kat Graham probably dressed up a bit more because she was also doing interviews on the RC. Considering she leans towards the tacky side, I like what she wore.
I don’t think  Channing Tatum was under dressed. The Movie Awards rate somewhere round the same level as the Kid’s Choice Awards so I think anything goes in terms of dress. I actually like his look for a change.
Andrew Garfield came across as a bit of a douche when Emma was being interviewed.Julianne Hough’s outfit makes her look wide. How can she not see that? Girl, that is NOT your dress.apparently the mirrors K Stew uses make her hair look prettier than it actually is. I like that she seems to have found her dress style, but can someone please help her with her hair?Christiana’s dress totally looks like a PR challenge. Its sponsored by Timex and the designers must incorporate the watch in the design. Princess apparently did the glue crap to a dress approach.

    • http://essays.tumblr.com/ Nicholas

I’d pay money to see a mope-down between Crystal Reed and Kristen Stewart.

    • Carla_Charlton

Really like Charlize Theron’s shoes.  I don’t know who Crystal Reed is, but I think that her dress and shoes are really appropriate for an MTV event.  And why does Kristen Stewart always look awkward  — is it her posture?  I also think she might seem more at ease if she wore a strappy sandal, rather than pumps, which always make her look like she might trip.

    • Le_Sigh

      Who are these kids????

Also – i utterly lurv your one-word assessments – I picture the two of you at home flipping through press photos like Rorschach flash cards and when you see something especially hideous or fabulous blurting “sweet jesus on a breadsick!”

    • AuntieAnonny

Andrew Garfield, the hair needs to go.

    • http://twitter.com/Goldielox73 Goldie

I was reading about Christina Ricci’s dress earlier.  Apparently, she picked one of Christian Siriano’s dresses and asked that the watches be attached.  Timex sent over 1500 watches for him to pick from.

    • http://twitter.com/cornekopia Shawn EH

I give it Kat Graham, at least she’s got a little “disco diva” tude going on. And K-Stew is fine for her.

    • http://twitter.com/AbbottRabbit AbbottRabbit

I’ve no idea who Holland Roden is, but I’d actually quite like her dress were it not THAT SHORT and THAT TIGHT.

    • http://twitter.com/AbbottRabbit AbbottRabbit

I’ve no idea who Holland Roden is, but I’d actually quite like her dress were it not THAT SHORT and THAT TIGHT.

    • http://twitter.com/Bloodisea Barbora

Charlize, Kristen and Logan for the win! :)

    • lordandtaylor

That Tyler Posey could stop traffic. And Lerman, you should stop by my house to watch basball. What a cutie!

Oh Miss Ricci, I miss your show. Get a another series soon. And please, learn how to pose for the cameria. One would think after growin up in the media she would have it down pat.

Coffin lilning —bet TLO comment yet

    • http://twitter.com/Kikishua CMS

Logan Lerman (who he?) – love that the creases at his groin are echoed by the strain at the bottom button and either side of his tie knot.  It’s just so darned cool when all your creases line up.

    • http://twitter.com/katshimmers Kat Wright

      “Coffin lining”
      Made. My. Fucking. Day.

      Thank you TLo!

    • http://twitter.com/MsAlexJackson Alexandria Jackson

Am I the only one who knows only about half of these people?

    • 3rdsister

Wait a minute, just one minute.  How is Andrew Garfield getting a pass???

      Short sleeves —
Scuffed brown shoes with grey pants —

Overall look is creepy clerk at Office Depot. Yikes.

    • Snailstsichr

You had me at coffin lining.

    • warontara

This all just makes me so sad for Charlize Theron, that she had to show up at this sleaze-fest.

    • donkeygospel6

It’s either a sign of MTV’s growing irrelevance, or a sign that I’m no longer a teenager, that I didn’t even know this stupid award show happened until I came on this site.

    • karena10

I don’t understand dresses (like Louise Roe’s, whoever she is) that make it hard or impossible to move one of your arms.  No matter if the dress is beautiful in every other way, that is the first thing I notice and can’t figure out why someone would wear it.

    • ampg

So I read “Looks like a bedspread,” and “Looks like a sheet,” and thought, if they manage to compare the next one to a pillow I might die and go to blog heaven.

    • dschubba

Ironically, my mom is obsessed with “Teen Wolf”, so I actually recognized a few of these people. Like Louis Gara, I felt appropriately guilty about it afterwards.

    • Spreecord

      WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?!?!

      /cranky old woman

    • beebee10

      COFFIN LINING!!!!!! thank you

    • Judy_J

      Andrew Garfield needs a belt.

    • mom2ab

Wow I am old- except for Charlize I have no idea who anyone is.

    • Beth G

I’m old.  I don’t know these people…. except Charlize, whom I can only assume HATED being in the middle of all these wanna-bes

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001998855370 Fatima Siddique

I don’t know who half of these people are or why they are getting free clothes from Balenciaga.

    • 2ndhandchic

It’s funny you say Christina Ricci’s dress looks Project Runway-ish, because it was designed by Christian Siriano for Timex.

    • BethR52

Kristen Stewart’s dress looks to me like bad quilt blocks writ large.

    • granddelusion

Men: hands out of your pockets when you’re posing; wear a belt with dress pants; tuck in a dress shirt. Sheesh, it’s not that hard. It’s not like you’re wearing high heels, make-up, or hair spray. (Okay, maybe hairspray.)

    • http://www.filmsbyneptune.com/ Dani Colman

I can’t unsee the Pikachu tail on the side of KStew’s dress.  Is it bad if that makes me love it?

    • holdmewhileimnaked

whoever crystal reed may be, she has the best dress. take it out of context, it’s really stunning.

    • http://twitter.com/susanpcollier Susan Collier

Wow. Hate Christina’s dress. Can’t believe Christian made that.

    • Allison Woods

They all pretty much look like crap except Charlize and that Twilight girl in the silver/yellow/purple getup.  What a horrible bunch of dresses.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

That collections is so sad. I can hear the RC crying.   KStew and Charlize for the win, though.

    • http://twitter.com/mirrormirrorxx Paola Thomas

      I love that Issa dress.

    • Gorengirl

      Coffin Lining… BAHAHAHAHA!!!

    • http://profiles.google.com/sauchih Sau-Chih Feng

Bedspread dress is actually kind of pretty.

Fashion houses should just boycott clothes to celebrity boys and men until they learn to dress properly. Obviously if they can’t look nice dressed up, they should just be naked or in fashion boxers.

Andrew Garfield is cute as a button. At least the British know how to do it properly!

    • Presumptuous Insect

So sick of this leg-crossing thing. They all look like they have to pee.

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

Re Andrew Garfield, et al: WHY are men NOT wearing belts anymore???  I can’t stand it!  Logan and Tyler, after-party at my place.  ;)

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Christina Ricci “looks a bit Project Runway-ish”?  She’s wearing a black garbage sack made into a dress and covered with watches!  It is the unconventional materials challenge!

    • jjfg

Andrew Garfield could play Andy Murray in a biopic.  Holy smokes!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/2LIE6ISFQUBIAO7OB6U5TAVXXQ Depot'er

Is Martha MacIsaac preggers? Sure looks like a (fugly) baby bump dress….yech.
