WERQ: Zoe Saldana in Elie Saab

Posted on May 10, 2012

Sometimes, the Way of the WERQ is less about being fierce and ferocious, and more about being cute and put-together in an outfit that suits you to a T. Sometimes, one shouts “WERQ it, gurl!”simply because someone just got it all perfect.

Zoe Saldana attends the Cosmopolitan for Latina’s Premiere Issue Party in a Elie Saab lavender cocktail dress with sheer embellished neckline and tiered skirt detail from the Fall 2009 Haute Couture collection. Clutch by Bottega Veneta. ‘Claudia Bis’ pumps by Brian Atwood.

You WERQ that pretty-princess-in-killer-heels look, girl. Nicely done.

And sometimes it’s about finding a red-carpet pose that doesn’t make it look like you had too much water after your morning workout.

  • Love love love!

  • terpsichory

That gorgeous smile is her best accessory. Love.

    • Jennifer L.

In that close up pic, I actually saw how gorgeous her eyes are for the first time. Normally I’m too distracted by her smile to notice.

  • DebB_Rocker

it’s all quite pretty and still WERQ-worthy; but those earrings, i feel are too casual.

  • Most of us mere mortals would look washed out in that color, but it looks good on her.  Love the heels.

  • Oh, irrational girlcrush, I <3 you so. Adorable outfit.

    • terpsichory

Oh, there’s NOTHING irrational about that girlcrush! Some would argue, it’s only logical…

  • ampg

Also, it would be really easy to get the proportions on that dress wrong, but it hits her in all the right places.

  • kimmeister

The dress and shoes are great.  Don’t like the earrings, and think she has on too many rings.

    • mountainFashionista

And ankle bracelets always look junior-high trashy to me…

  • moppet

Her hair switched shoulders! Neat trick!

I am so digging those shoes.

  • SpcilK

Werk and Werk’d! I am usually not a fan, but she did the damn thing from head to toe beautifully.

  • Sara__B

I do NOT like her hair lately; otherwise, perfect.

  • I love the bottom of the skirt, but I hate the waistband and the top. And the shoes. She still makes it work though, Or WERQ, in this case.

  • Terence Ng

    Cute. 🙂

  • mjude

    she is just so appealing.

  • Judy_J

She’s like Mary Poppins….Practically Perfect in Every Way!

  •  I love everything about this outfit! EVERYTHING!!

  •  I love everything about this outfit! EVERYTHING!!

  • 3boysful

LOVE the dress and the clutch, but guess I’m in the minority on the shoes–hootchie-mama to me.  The Sisters Fanning should take notice:  this color looks great on people of color, NOT on people of almost no color!

  • She even knows how to WERQ a pose so you can see the back of those fabulous shoes. Two snaps!

  • introspective

The great thing about her entire look is its effortlessness. She achieves this kind of fabulousness without looking like she tried. (there may be a stylist in her life, sure, but props to whomever that is for getting it right much of the time and making her look easy and not manufactured by a “team”…)

  • I don’t know about a WERQ, the bottom of that thing looks like it is made out of parkas.

  • MilaXX

LOVE this pumps! I also think I have a bit of a soft spot for Ms. Saladana. She may just be my next girlcrush

  • H3ff

    OUT from me.

The colour is gross and girl needs to blot her face with about a dozen oil-absorbing sheets. Props for the easy breezy pose, though.

  • nannypoo

Love everything about it. She’s fabulous.

  • She looks fabulous.  Great dress and accessories, a real home run.

  • Toilet tissue and glitter? No ma’am.

  • jw_ny

Zoe looks fab!  She has a great sense of style…rarely misses the mark.  Even when she does, she’s still ahead of the pack..

  • BeeBeauNYC

Damn she knows how to bring it!

  • elemspbee

awesome shoes. dress color is a bit drab, no?

  • HM3

The dress is cute, but the clutch is putting me to sleep and the pink/beige/whatever on the shoes, a bit TOO matchy. All-metallic shoes would’ve done Mama good. And just lose the dang clutch. You have like, a bazillion dollars, and can probably hire someone whose sole full-time job is to carry your phone when it appears unbecoming with your outfit.

  • TieDye64

Very cute and I’m really digging those pumps.

  • Judy_S

Love it all, except that the shoes appear to me to be too big??

  • Qitkat

She looks adorable and it’s a lovely dress with all the details, but I’m not feeling that color. It looks dreary to me. I’d rather it were in a true pastel. It’s the lavendar version of bandaid.

  • Lisa

Now, when you look up WERQ in the dictionary, it’s going to have these pictures next to the definition.  LOVE IT!

  • Susan Crawford

Adorable! The only teeny quibble I have is the earrings; they seem a little heavy and busy next to the beautiful, delicate bodice. The clutch and shoes – MUST HAVE THEM! And the hair and make-up are absolutely flawless. She looks relaxed, confident and utterly stylish. Definitely the WERQ for today.

  • guest2visits

Beautiful everything; even the jewelry which I kind of ignore on most celebs unless it’s bad. She looks amazing.
Elie Saab dresses are in my dreams.

  • crash1212

Now THIS is a WERQ! Love every bit of it and I think Brian Atwood should get some kind of knighthood for those shoes. KILLER!

  • kikisayshi

  • mayavaly

Impeccable make-up. The ‘right’ way to part the hair, while avoiding the dreaded mermaid (Eva Green, take note). Shoes just a tad cumbersome, but I suspect they were chosen to prevent the whole look from veering off into ‘twee’ territory.  Ankle chains and tattoos on the feet probably should be avoided wherever possible.

  • Bozhi

Beautiful.  Those shoes are perfect with that dress.

  • quiltrx

Very cute and very put-together.  And better than I’ve seen her look lately–looks happy!

  • Lilithcat

Very adorable.  But too many rings and that whorish ankle bracelet take it out of WERQ territory and knock it down to a mere IN.

  • She looks cute without being twee.  Study up Zooey Deschanel.

  • TheOtherChristina

Well hello, my future shoes, you precious darlings, you. You sit tight for a moment, mommy has to talk to the internet about a celebrity.

This is a very cute look. Love the dress. I like the textural approach to the accessories but I feel like the whole look is missing a focal point. That might have been the idea behind the lipstick, but I wouldn’t call it a success — the makeup is a letdown. And I can’t get excited about the hair, either. So for me, this is unquestionably IN but I don’t think I would elevate it any further.

  • i absolutely cannot WERQ that color.  dirty laundry, dishwater, old bras and girdles, whatever.  not buying it.

    the shoes, however, are awesome.

  • ccm800

I just realized she kind of has that Barrack Obama smile. She is seriously monochromatic here but man it does work thanks to variations in sheen and texture.

  • I have no words. Beautiful in a dress that shouldn’t work. Love it.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

    OK. Sometimes cute works.

  • Jessica Rowe

I would wrestle her DOWN for those shoes.

  • M

Are anklets coming back?  Is this a real thing?

  • TheOriginalLulu

She looks amazing, as usual. LOVE those shoes. WERQ

  • marilyn

She is a gorgeous girl.  But, I think the dress is too busy.  It looks like a prom dress.  The designer either needed to go with the ruffles on the bottom or the lace on the top.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Love the entire look head to toe.  Those shoes and the clutch are covetable.

  • sagecreek

    Adorable! I need those shoes.

  • Lina_bee

  • DCSheehan

So pretty-girly! Different coloured bag though? Would have loved to have seen a bang of colour or at least a more interesting shape for the clutch.

  • librarygrrl64

Sorry, but those shoes are hiddy, and too heavy for that dress (and for such a small woman).
