Reese Witherspoon in Bel Air

Posted on May 04, 2012

Hey Reese!

Reese Witherspoon out and about in Bel Air.

Chloé ‘Angie’ Leather Handbag

We know that we’ve said in the past that you top our Irrational Celebrity Hate list – and truth be told, your position hasn’t really shifted on the chart – but we just wanted to say that pregnancy agrees with you and you’ve been looking kind of cute and soft in your semi-”candid” shots lately. Like here, for instance. We understand you’re checking out your new house and you have to pretend like you don’t want your picture taken, but honey. Cute little daytime ensemble you’ve got going on here. Nicely done. Love the flats, even if they do match the jacket. Great bag, too.

Okay, gotta run. You look like you’re ready to release the pit bulls.

She’s on my list too, imagine that. Cute look though.

      • SassieCassy

I don’t dislike her really, but I literally have 0 friends who like her. Did she slap a puppy or something.

        • lovelyivy

I don’t mind her either (liked her in Walk the Line although I didnt think it deserved an Oscar nod) but I think it’s the perkiness. For some of people it’s like nails on a god damn chalkboard.

          • Glammie

I like early Reese–love her as the bitch in Election and love her as the trailer-trash Little Red in Freeway.  I don’t like her when she’s pretending to be perky and *nice.*  She’s a bit like Hugh Grant for me–I like them both better when they let out their inner villain.  Hugh’s good at being slimey and Reese is good at being mean.

            • Adriana_Paula

              Couldn’t agree more.

word.  I don’t think she deserved the Oscar WIN, let alone the Oscar nod.  And being all pursed-lips pissy when you make that much damn money – sorry, no.

            • Sobaika Mirza

You could probably say that about the past ten Oscar recipients, unfortunately.

    • AmandaCathleen

I would totally wear this. Very chic daytime look, pregnant or not. But then, I’m a sucker for anything striped…

      • lovelyivy

I’m not pregnant and have no plans to be but I would rock the hell out of that dress!

        • NC_Meg

Ditto to both of you! I need that dress.

    • SassieCassy

I have some leftover goodwill from that movie Election. Gotta love tracy flick!

      • Little_Olive

Love that flick (pun unintended). Although Matthew Broderick does his share of heavy lifting too -that Kia Pop glues me to the screen. Dark humor (my kind of humor) is so rarely achieved in US mainstream cinema.

      • out for a walk

Ha, for some reason I have leftover goodwill from Cruel Intentions! Actually I know why, it’s the crazy elf faces she makes in the car:

How can an adult human woman being person wear horizontal stripes while pregnant and not look like a VW Beetle?  Especially one that isn’t 6′ tall?

I’d cut her for that bag.  You know, metaphorically.

      • holdmewhileimnaked

the jacket’s seriously helping in that regard.

      • Jolene Barnett

Because it shows off the pregnancy. Half of all maternity clothes right now are horizontally striped, and it’s all about flaunting the tummy. I don’t know quite why it works, but it does.

      • http://thehathorlegacy.com MaggieCat

I think part of it here is because the stripes have a slight curve to them — check the bottom hem, where you can see another white stripe in the middle, but the grey one above it arcs downwards on both sides — so the pattern goes straight across the stomach but it’s just far enough from being perfectly horizontal elsewhere that it avoids having that extreme widening effect you sometimes end up with.

      • http://profiles.google.com/rosatcollege Ros Clarke

Contrary to popular belief, horizontal stripes make you look thinner.

        • http://thehathorlegacy.com MaggieCat

Maybe on some body types, but definitely not on everybody. I can’t wear horizontal stripes unless they’re reeeeally narrow stripes and the shirt in question is super fitted (let’s not even discuss a striped skirt or pant *shudder*), and even then it’s a total crapshoot. Large bust + narrow waist + horizontal stripes = solid block. Giant solid block. Especially if the stripe is matched up and continues across the bust onto the sleeves.

      lovely and sweet!

    • Patricia Gillett

For $2,000 – that bag better photograph well, even in “candids”!

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/4KLZGI7NMQE2LQDYYSMPFXANW4 Uche

She looks cute and especially comfortable being far along in her pregnancy. She’s meh for me,but i liked her in Water For Elephants.

    • holdmewhileimnaked

i’d really like the purse but what i’d really like is the house. or any house, come to think of it. just about. ah well.

    • Little_Olive

She accumulates the tension on her lips from what we’ve seen here.

She dresses pretty normal (stlyewise) and ok. Has not made my list as of yet. Loved her as a kid, though.

    • http://oneblueberry.com/ LaVonne Ellis

So nice to see a pregnant celebrity in flats for a change. She looks great.

    • TieDye64

She looks very, very cute. Glad she’s wearing flats, because pregnancy should be all about comfort and she looks chic AND comfy.

      • TropiCarla

Agreed. I’m a few weeks behind her in my first pregnancy and would happily rock that entire outfit. Even though, truth be told, I would prefer a maxi-length version of the dress because I am using the pregnancy as a perfect excuse to take a long break from shaving my legs. ;-)

        • TieDye64

Hahaaa! More power to you. Health and happiness to you and your wee one.

Love the shades–and must confess I briefly thought “release the pit bulls” was some new awesome slang for “go into labor”.

    • JackieOBlue

I think she looks great here, totally appropriate for running errands, unlike when JLo or Kim Kardashian “run errands” in skirts where you can see the good china and platform heels.

    • http://twitter.com/TheRedZavodnik Ginger

Can I just say how much I love to see a celebrity that has big calves like I do?  Seriously!  It’s awesome. =)  I’m proud of my calves, too.  Years of running and cycling have made them what they are…even if I can’t find a pair of boots that fit.

    • RebeccaKW

That is a great bag.  I’m at work and I don’t look nearly that put together.

    • MilaXX

Cute look. I’d rock an outfit like that in a heartbeat, although my bag would cost considerably less.

    • Pants_are_a_must

Hilariously, the bag is the only thing that doesn’t go with this ensemble. Great work, stylist!

    • SpcilK

Cute outfit don’t care about the person wearing it.

    • elizonthelam

Cute. Gotta say, the tiny pop of bright turquoise in her key chain seen against the burnt orange of her sweater is very pretty. Small thing, but love that.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_2P2ANLRZ6YAVGONA36I2AQJYGI VicD

That’s a total “Werq” for a pregnant lady.  Just think of all the grotesque pregnancy looks foisted on us in recent years by celebs – she’s not in a bikini, or a crop top, and (best of all) she’s not Jessica Simpson.

    • Lina_bee

      I want the cardigan.

    • marilyn

      She looks great!

    • alyce1213

      Stop the irrational hate.
      She looks really nice.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

Chic and adorable, and yet pregnant-comfy at the same time. I think she usually looks pretty great.

    • BPlease

I can’t stand this one.   And every time she throws in extensions and pouts and becomes Sexy Reese, my irrational dislike is stoked. Looks cute here. I guess.

Also, whenever I need a quick giggle, I remember her sighing/sobbing, “It burns!  It burns!  The ring of fire!” in her ‘emotional breakdown/breakthrough’ scene in “Walk the Line.”  Don’t care that she got her Oscar; June deserved better!

    • Laylalola

Yay! I clicked on this thinking I really shouldn’t, I have such an irrational hatred for her (it’s like some part of me is convinced she really IS Tracy Flick — and let’s face it, she always does look super-anal, and I could believe in a heartbeat she’s ubermanipulative) and then you made my day by starting out the post with your own statement (I had no idea, I guess I’ve never clicked on a Reese post here before). Thank you! Still not willing to budge and agree she’s got it going on here (and I’m not sure if I really think that or if that’s the irrational part kicking in).

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3AJ237ND3GAHDQJZ4TLCO4WLRA Emily

      love this look.

    • rainwood1

She looks super cute.  And if I had the paps following me around like she does, I’d look super pissed all the time.  For that and other reasons, I’d make a very bad celebrity.

    • http://eclectictsunami.blogspot.com/ Cassie

She always did look cutest while pregnant – it softens the features of her face, which can get a bit…sharp.

I find her kind of irritating these days, but oh my god did I love her in Election. Tracey Flick forever! She was good in Pleasantville, too.

    • CarolinLA

I absolutely adore Reese Witherspoon.  She is a fabulous actress (although the choices she’s made in the past few years have been lackluster – interestingly since she met her agent/hubby).  But she was superb in Election, Walk the Line (I think she completely deserved the Oscar as she was so specific in her performance), Pleasantville, Legally Blonde, and a little seen movie called Freeway where she is balls out great.

    • ccm800

I love me some Reese, but I get the irrational hate list – Goodness knows I’ve got mine. She looks adorable here. CUTE dress

    • formerlyAnon

She is one darn cute pregnant lady. I can’t say I hate her, but mostly when I do have something positive to say about her, it comes out as a left-handed compliment at best.  It’s because she comes off like a driven, hard working, entitled, bitchy sorority sister. I’m not entirely SURE that’s irrational . . .

    • Lisa

Cute enough for “Out running errands in the early stages of pregnancy”, but other than that, dull.

That being said, I’ll fully confess that “Legally Blonde” 1 & 2 are two of my favorite movies. They’re two of my absolute guilty pleasures.

I still can’t believe she won an Oscar smh
