Pairs Division: Jackson and Kruger

Posted on May 23, 2012

Oh, thank God. Diane spent the night scouring the streets of Cannes after reports came in of Josh wandering the streets in a daze and embarrassing himself. We’re happy to report that they couple is reunited and back where they belong: on the red carpet, where they apparently just got married.

Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger attend the “Killing Them Softly” Premiere during the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Diane Kruger wore a Nina Ricci gown paired with a Judith Leiber clutch.

It’s kind of hard to look at a man in a tux standing next to a woman in a lacey, frilly white gown and not think they look like they’re getting married.

HE: Is a young, well-built man in a tux. What else is there to say? It fits him well. He does look a little sloppy, though; especially above the neck. Some men can pull off the stubble and look sexy, but for most of us, we just wind up looking a little homeless. Sorry, Josh. You’re part of that 99%. It doesn’t help that you could have used a haircut to boot. Score: 5/10. There’s so little that a man has to do to look good once he puts on a tux that fits him. There’s no excuse for failing to shave or get your hair cut. Tsk.

SHE: Is turning it out once again. It’s a really pretty gown and if she wasn’t standing next to a guy in a tux, we might not even think it looks all that bridal. We don’t know if that corsage is actually a corsage or part of the dress. We just know we don’t like it at all. We’re not super-crazy about the hairstyle either. Looks a little severe. Still, she clearly put the effort in and she’s quite the vision, even if we have quibbles about the details. Score: 9/10.

Combined Score: 7/10. Kiss her, Josh. She just did all the heavy lifting.

Wow. If there hadn’t been a Sex in the City movie to prove me wrong, I would have thought she was cosplaying Carrie Bradshaw on her wedding day.

      • Spicytomato1

Lol, I was scrolling down to make my own “Carrie Bradshaw” comment. You saved met the time and effort, thanks!

    • kimmeister

I don’t quite understand what her hairstyle is.  Too bad we can’t see it from the back!

And I don’t quite know why Josh put on the black boutonniere.  It’s nearly invisible.

      • Le_Sigh

I kind of have the feeling she dresses him.

        • http://twitter.com/pointlesswords jaymeglynn

I definitely think so, but I’m just so happy that he lets her! Sigh. He’s perfect.
I also love the scruff. He’s earnt it.

      • mountainFashionista

Her hair is giving me an Olivia Newton-John from the late ’70s vibe.

        • Spicytomato1

I was thinking more along the lines of a 40’s pinup girl’s rolled ‘do.

          • EveEve

She has a horribly receding hairline, shown most dramatically in the third photo.    But the dress is gorgeous, and thank goodness it’s not pale pink.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

Very pretty dress, fits her like a dream, but she looks spent.  Agree, the hair is severe…

    • Tatiana Luján

She looks so skinny it’s sad.

      • Vodeeodoe

I always think it’s a bad sign when you’re so skinny it makes your head look too big.

        • Lisa_Cop

It’s also aging, in her case.

      • MoHub

You may not be able to be too rich, but you can certainly be too thin! She looks unhealthy.

      • http://twitter.com/almcafee Alison McAfee

she looks FREAKISHLY skinny. give that girl a sandwich, she must be hungry.

    • RebeccaKW

I like the dress minus the corsage thing.  I do sorta wish it didn’t have the long skirt.  That the top part was a bit longer and then ended at the fringe.

I might not hate his stubble, if his neck was shaved and the stubble was face only.

      • 3rdsister

Yes, yes — I completely agree about the dress.  Lose that pleated, dragging layer and have a super cute mini.

      • Lisa_Cop

Unless you are Tom Ford (or maybe Ben Millepied, aka Mr. Natalie Portman) guys please shave! I also agree the dress might be better short but that corsage thing is just too much either way. Also, like the makeup but given the receding hairline, a softer look at the hairline would be more attractive

    • random_poster

Even in this, not her absolutely best effort, I can’t get over how gracefully beautiful and feminine she is.   She’s perfect royalty material.

    • Cathy S

I disagree about the corsage and the hair. I think they’re great. I think the corsage adds a nice touch of color to the dress. She looks fabulous.

      I miss his sweater.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Laura-Hand/34501967 Laura Hand

Wow she looks so different with her head turned, her profile makes her look much older. Maybe it’s the hair. The straight on she looks gorgeous!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OSYAJATXUH3QX7ZDDF52GXG4PU Janie R

Exactly what I was going to say. She should never wear her hair that way again.

      • http://twitter.com/londonpenguin Teresa M.

I thought the same thing. She looks like a different person in profile, and that’s not a good thing.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

She looks like Cloris Leachman in profile. I don’t think that was her intent.

      • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

Poor thing. I look kind of severe in profile too. Can’t always ask for the flattering angle.

        • Lisa_Cop

Good models know their angles. If she hadn’t talked to Josh we would not be seeing this unflattering profile.

          • http://www.wordydoodles.com WordyDoodles

            Ok.

      • kcarb1025

IA, her profile is not so good. It’s not the hair either though, it’s her nose/chin/forehead. They all make her look like the old woman in that ‘old lady/young lady’ optical illusion. Yikes.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ENBX3563Q4ZNCVRGSJVFIB7OAA Thom

That hair reminds me of the 80’s, somehow (especially next to that puffed out corsage…). But really, if he came looking any more groomed and polished, you’d think they really were getting married by the paparazzi.

      • ballerinawithagun

You are right. The hair would have been bigger but we put combs on both sides for a faux hawk.

    • nycfan

Hmmm, I think you are dinging him rather severely, given the relative pass given to a lot of guys who give far less sartorial effort on the red carpet, but can’t argue about the need for a shave.  I think that lavender flower is repeated on the back of the shoulder and so part of the dress, but don’t like that shoulder embellishment in any event.  Otherwise, I think she looks great (and from body language the partner in charge of this appearance).

    • Vodeeodoe

I had no idea she was that skinny. I like Josh better in his nutty professor look from the other day. He really does need someone to do his hair for tux events.

    • ChiliP

I am not a fan of what she’s wearing, at all. It looks like sheer curtains stapled to a white lacy cocktail dress, adorned with feathers and a giant corsage. And her hair looks fine straight on, but in profile it looks…aging.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jessica-TallGirl-Freeman/1043623567 Jessica TallGirl Freeman

I am on the fence about this dress, it just looks like a whole lot going on.  I think without all the flower frippery on the shoulder and taking off the feathers on her legs, I could appreciate it more…

    • stephkornblum

I can’t even start to look at what she is wearing until I stop seeing that Oompa Loompa in the back of the last picture. But I do think the bottom fringe part is unfortunate.

      • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

        Haha, that chick is tragic.

    • ballerinawithagun

A little more updo on the hair and the hem please.

    • J MN

I like it, especially her but I agree she looks tired.  How many dresses have we seen her in this past week?  And how thin is she if the camera adds 5 – 10 lbs.?   She looks stunning and he’s not bad either.  Nice looking couple.

    • bluefish

Beautiful dress.  Would indeed make a lovely wedding gown.  The hair is aging and leaves her looking haggard.  Life in wartime hair.

    • SpcilK

Very pretty gown albeit it is very bridal. He needs a good shave and some hair styling.

      • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

        Exactly!

    • 3boysful

I would j’adore the dress if Nina Ricci had omitted the frouforall on the shoulder.

The hair, to me, if the classic “we-don’t-have-time-to-wash-and-dry-it-so-let’s-use-lots-of-product-and-concoct-a-style” scenario.  Ain’t workin’ here.

    • AuntieAnonny

DK’s gown has a bit too much going on for me, get rid of the tassels and the ugly poofy thing, and give the bottom some life.

Also, is that Fergie in the background?

      • sagecreek

Dadgummit, I have GOT to get with the program. I scrolled up looking for the former Duchess of York.

        • AuntieAnonny

Hah! I was debating whether or not I should specify..

      • 3boysful

Whoever it is, look how goofy the upturned platform shoes make her feet look.  Like they’re not really meant for walking.

    • http://needtherapy.tumblr.com/ skadi1

How is her hair severe? It looks pulled back, yes, but loose and romantic. I don’t get that at all. And she looks gorgeous as usual.
Josh, a little hair product goes a long way. Look into it.

    • piecesofconfetti

I would give her an 11/10. She looks amazing!

    • MilaXX

I gotta agree, all see is the bride and groom. I’m okay with his score but I’d give her a 8/10 because I dislike the giant corsage and the gown looks a little too long.

    • Sara__B

SHE: 7: I HATE the hair and the big bunch of junk on her shoulder. She looks Mother of the Bride X 100.
HE: 5: When you’re at Cannes and the photographers look more polished than you, that’s not good.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/K3O2QNXDJIU3AJINAGNJRYWDZ4 mrspotts66

in the 4th and 5th picture, she looks harsh above the neck.
      i can’t pinpoint it.
      she looks a little…old? hard?
full on from the front? she’s gorgeous!
      i think it’s just a bad hairstyle.

and i do NOT like her dress.

      • SewingSiren

It’s not the hair , it’s the expression. She looks like she’s telling she found a sink full of dirty dishes when she got home from work, and he forgot to take out the trash too.

      • BrooklynBomber

I think it’s because she’s so skeletal. Has she always been so skinny? Anyway, I see what you’re talking about and I think it’s due to having no fat cells.

      • Lisa_Cop

Scanning some of her pics on IMDB, she looks alot older here than even 1 year ago. Some of it is she looks a bit haggard here and the dark eyeshadow is not doing her face any favors. Too thin? Sick? I don’t know. She still looks good, just much less so than a short time ago.

    • guest2visits

Talk about quibbles; it looks to me like she is having a very civilized quibble with her date.  No smiles; again.
But she looks wonderful; the dress is gorgeous, – with or without the corsage.
I would love to know, whats the black lapel pin for him signify ?

    • Judy_J

The do look like they belong on the top of a wedding cake.

    • BrooklynBomber

She’s got 1930s drag going on. Looks good, if a bit much.

    • BrooklynBomber

Is that a vintage Nina Ricci by any chance? There’s something costumey about it. And it sort of looks like a wedding cake, which reinforces the sense of bridality.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1344922354 Eric Scheirer Stott

The stubble works on his Peter Bishop character on FRINGE, but not so much here

    • http://twitter.com/april_anita April

She is so thin. Her poor arms look like toothpicks. Why as a society do we determine this is attractive? There’s naturally thin, and then there’s emaciated.

    • Susan Crawford

      SHE: Perfection.
HE: Are there still no razors in Cannes?

    • http://profiles.google.com/anplica Anplica Fiore

I think she looks lovely here!  I think her hair & dress are well paired and beautiful.  Too bad she couldn’t get Josh to shave…

    • http://www.facebook.com/aboutelle Ashleigh Boutelle

      -50% cuz of stubble?? harsh…

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

Don’t love the stubble either, but I bet he’ll look great once it grows all the way in.

    • Lilyana_F

Awkward hair situation, but apart from that, girl is a vision

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1230057270 Allie Carter

I like the corsage – it’s the fuzzy trim around mid thigh that’s killing the look.

    • TheOriginalLulu

Him – I have to agree; the stubbly look doesn’t suit him at all and he does need a haircut. He looks hung over.
She – Looks stunning. That would make a gorgeous wedding dress, but the slut in me thinks it would be a great little short dress if it ended right where the feathers are. Not loving the curtain part below.

    • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

TLo said “Some men can pull off the stubble and look sexy, but for most of us, we just wind up looking a little homeless.”

AMEN, brothers!  Is this fad ever going to end?  I am sick to death of it!  Shave, for cripes sake!!

There, now I’m off my soapbox.

      • NurseEllen

Can I hear an “Amen” from the crowd?  AMEN!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

Even when I don’t love her dress, I love her in it. She’s regal.

And he’s dreamy, marry me Pacey! Shave first!

    • librarygrrl64

Sorry, but that dress is hiddy. Too frou-frou.

    • poggi

In the profile shots, she looks like Barbara Stanwyck.

    • MzzPants

      Agree.

    • 3rdsister

At first I thought they were getting married but given the corsage on her shoulder, I guess they are just going to prom.

    • http://victoriapavlova.com Victoria Pavlova

I hate the FRINGE on her dress (see what I did there :) ). He looks damn fine to me even when scruffy.

    • Michelle Cunningham

From the front she looks like herself.  From the side she looks JUST like Helen Hunt.  Maybe that’s the reason she always poses face on?

      • rawrgrowlrawr

Wow, good call on Helen Hunt. I love Jaime Buchman.

Ms. Kruger is still lovely from any angle though. So classy.

    • Beardslee

I HATE that scruff!  Why why why??

    • DinahR

I can’t help it.  I really wouldn’t change a thing about his look.  I like my men a little scruffy I guess.  Scruffy and …. in a tux?  I don’t know what’s wrong with me.  I like the black flower on his lapel.
She looks lovely too.  Love the dress.  Not as fond of that shoulder thing but it’s easy to ignore when she looks so great. Such an adorable couple.

    • lilazander

She has such a classic beauty, she looks great in classic silhouettes like that; the only aspect of it I don’t like is the giant froo-froo on her shoulder. I’m not commenting on guys in tux; not much to comment on…

    • EEKstl

Gorgeous gown.  Not loving the growth on the shoulder tho.  I think he looks sort of Everyman Hot.

    • http://twitter.com/GaraStJames Gara St. James

Personally, I don’t have a problem with his stubble. Without it, he sometimes looks too baby-faced, even more so next to her severe hair and makeup here.

    • mom2ab

I think she looks pretty good for someone who just got out of an internment camp.  Seriously girl eat a sandwich.

    • Judy_S

My theory is that he (don’t know him but he’s an actor, right?) is trying to grow a beard. So he can’t shave.

    • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

She’s so so miniscule. I want her waist ;-P

    • Zippypie

      Meh on both.

    • TieDye64

Yeah, he absolutely cannot pull off the scruff. Go home and shave that crap off your face young man. 5/10

Her dress is just okay, though it sure highlights her teeny tiny waist, but the corsage thingy and the hair are not. 7/10

    • Ogden1990

Check out the guy behind Pacey in the first photo. THAT”s how you do facial hair.

    • Call me Bee

      Is she wearing shoes?
I’d like to comment on the couple, but I am totally distracted by the woman in the background wearing peach and those awful platforms.  Yikes.

      • PeaceBang

OMG! Just spotted her. The orange skin. The ironed, dead hair. The big shiny shoes. Too funny!!

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/toodleskitty79?feature=guide AWS

He’s too stubbly.  She’s too thin.  *yawn*

    • Lisa

It’s way too much virginal lacey flowery fluff.  It’s just so “OMG, MY FIRST PROM, CAN WE GO OUT AND GET THE FLUFFIEST DRESS EVER, MOM?”  No likey.

      • formerlyAnon

But, for me at least, she’s managing to pull it off. Which is weird.

    • jw_ny

That corsage is so unnecessary, otherwise her dress is very pretty.  I agree about her hair looking severe…especially in profile.  7.5

His stubble and hair really does make him look sloppy.  His black boutonniere is lost against the tux…looks sad.  Shouldn’t it be on his left side?  5

    • yybb

I want to ask what Diane Kruger is famous for? I only know about her role as Helen of Troy. What else?

      • http://twitter.com/yankeefoxtrot Alex McGeagh

She was fabulous in Inglorious Basterds as well.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/J2VE4NE2FY2BP4QD2XOYKJGLPI Laura

Girl that is SO your dress. Stunning. Perfect for her. I like the flower thingy and even the hair. WIN

    • fungstyle

she has such sever bone structure in her face that anything pulled that far away just makes her look like a bird. i fear she will age poorly with those sharp planes…

      • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i agree, in the profile shot she looks like her hairline is receding.

    • NurseEllen

This dress would have been killer if it had ended at the fringe, and then had another horizontal layer spliced in to make it a decent length.  As it is, I would have to propose a corollary to “scroll down fug”…….maybe “scroll down anticlimax”?

I like her hair.  And the bracelet looks fab.

    • LilyPad

      She is perfect.

    • formerlyAnon

I think you were harsh on him – if we’re deducting 40% for insufficient shaving/haircutting very very few of the gentlemen would make it out of the box.  I say this as a serial whiner about the stubbly look. 6.75/10.

I think  you are generous to her. It’s a ridiculous dress, which she does pull off, against all odds. But the faux (?) over-the-top corsage is pushing it into wedding-at-the-prom, and that can not get a nine. It just cannot. 8/10.

      Combined score: 7.375/10

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

I agree he needs a shave and a haircut but I don’t think a “5” is fair.  I’d give him a 7.5.  Many male actors have trouble pulling of the “looking good in a tux” look.

    • BazoDee

I just love them together. I love the dress on her and again it fits impeccably.
I would like to see J.J shaven but I like the hair a tad long -so Pacey ;-P

    • oohsparkley!

I would have scored him higher, maybe 8.5.  I like her look too, the “corsage” is too big, I would have cut it off, the dress really doesn’t need it. Her also a 8.5.

    • golspie

      Who are these people?

    • golspie

Oh, and Tom and Lorenzo, please could you come out with a definitive statement coming out against made-up bow ties?

    • Vera L-

Girl needs a sammich. She is frighteningly thin.

    • ccm800

She looks to me like she’d cut a bitch in a second.

    • OneTwoThreeFashion

      Oh, I love her gown!
