Oscar de la Renta Resort 2013 Collection

Posted on May 22, 2012

We don’t know about y’all, but there’s no better way to end our Monday work day than by heading on over to Oscar de la Renta Central to watch his gorgeous resort collection walk past our eager faces. Stark black-and-whites were followed by an explosion of bright, summertime colors and printed florals, with the expected Oscar touches of old school femininity, like crochet, Broderie Anglaise, gingham, and lace, as well as some unexpected touches like a sequined raglan-sleeved baseball T, which went on sale online immediately following the show. This was a “sashaying down a Paris street in summer” kind of collection; ladylike, but also sexy with just the tiniest bit of sass and attitude. It feels like the youngest Oscar collection we’ve seen in a while.

Easy to love!  Look at all that color!!  Lots of good here!

  • Spreecord

Those are some scary, scary foot cages. Love all the gingham, though.

    • Spicytomato1

I know, those shoes. I want to get a closer look. From this vantage point, all I can think of is “cheap.” I love the gingham, for which I am always a sucker, too. But my favorite is the white dress with the red floral print. Perfection.

      • littlemac8

Can’t you just see Michelle Williams wearing it, or perhaps Zooey with black tights.  Tee Hee.

    • Chantelle James

Those strappy shoes remind me of the strappy shoes from the early to mid 80s with loops and whirls
      that I coveted.

    Love the blues and greens!

  • http://aldonsusi.blogspot.com/ Susi R

Beautiful! I wish I could afford these clothes. :(

    • guestela

I know! Did you check out the cost of the T-shirt available online?!? Yowza.

  • Maria Rosenfire

YES. These are absolutely fantastic, and I desperately with that he would make the 2nd dress in the 2nd row and the first two dresses in the 5th row in my size, because I would buy them like hotcakes (though if I stopped eating so many hotcakes I might fit into regular sizes in the first place).

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I see Sophia Vergara in the green gown. And Mia Wasikowska in the one directly below it.

*sigh* Every single piece is GORGEOUS.

    • miscorrections

I was just thinking, “Paging Mia or Michelle to the bow gown!”

    • kimmeister

Although I fear that Sophia’s rack in the green gown would end up looking like fembot boob torpedo-launchers . . .

  • hughman

Well there’s certainly a lot going on, that’s for sure.

  • bluefish

Beautiful first evening dress in green print.

  • http://twitter.com/foodycatAlicia foodycatAlicia

COLOUR! Gorgeous. I’m in no mood to pay attention to the details but the overall impression is lovely.

    • Nayasabrina

!!!!$2500 baseball shirt?  (On sale) ???!!!!  Ah– it’s a formal baseball shirt.

      • guestela

        Seriously! Ridiculous!

  • TieDye64

Loving that first gown (green) featured on top. Fresh, pretty colors.

  • SapphoPoet

Very seldom do I look at a collection and think that I would like to wear each and every piece. But I do here. Love all the colors and the shapes; it’s a very accessible collection.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_LI35AZLWSZEYRDZ4PUCBHUCZUI Jonathan

I love all the looks until that green gown, the bodice just feels a bit overworked and the side peplum flaps make the center part look odd. also don’t love the green skirt with bows, but other than that I am absolutely in love.

    Oscar, you never fail us.

  • http://www.djplaw.com/ Tadiana

It’s rare that I see a collection where most of the pieces are wearable by normal people, and where I’m dying to have most of it in my wardrobe, but this is it.

    • charlotte

I so agree! Normally I dislike most collection pieces on models because they seem unwearable for most people (excluding Tilda Swinton), but these I actually like. If I could pick I’d choose one of the flowery green ones.

    • Beardslee

The clothes are wearable, clearly, but look at the models:  while they are certainly thin, they are not gaunt and hollow cheeked and I think that helps make the clothes seem more accessible to ordinary mortals.

  • Presumptuous Insect

    A real eye opener!

    it’s Tuesday, right?

    • MilaXX

I’m thinking they cued this up for yesterday and didn’t get to it, then forgot to change the day before posting.

    • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

Unless they actually went to the show …  just how famous are TLo?

      • foxy711711

I think they did go to the show – they were tweeting it and put some pictures up too!

        • http://twitter.com/SparklyCasanova UglyCasanova

Despite my twitter account, I really don’t use it, really it’s used only for commenting on TLo’s blog.

But yeah, guess they’re moving on up!

    • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

I think they went to the show on Monday (yes, they are in the big-time), blogged it on Tuesday. :)

  • michelle shields

Hate the gingham, it looks like a tablecloth. Everything else is pretty fab.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/toodleskitty79?feature=guide AWS

    Beautyfull!

  • Judy_J

Hooray for the big O!  I wish I had tons o’money….in my dreams I’ll be wearing these clothes while sashaying down a Paris street.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1303837450 Lauren Dorsee Dillon

    LOVE!

  • Lina_bee

OMG those greens and oranges! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3  I LOVE OdlR anyway, but this is a delight!

  • Noshmek

Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that color and patterns are finally returning to the Runway.

  • Qitkat

I’m not at all crazy about the glittery baseball sweater, especially at $2490!, but most of the other green dresses and gowns are some of the prettiest looks in a color that is often difficult to wear, let alone design, that have been featured on the blog. Especially the lovely floral first look, and everything in row 7. Gorgeous.

I’ll take rows 1 and 2 also. Beautiful modern takes on black and white.

  • Spicytomato1

Lots of pretty choices. I see many cocktail dresses that would be perfect for Shelly O…the red and white floral, the two green florals, the two black and white florals, to name a few.

  • lilazander

Love the prints and textures and the no fuss silhouettes.

  • MilaXX

Very pretty. A few of the looks don’t quite work for me, but overall I like. I hate to say it but that fancy baseball T and the skirt it’s paired with is one of the looks I dislike.

That green gown with the folded bodice and peplum reminds me of a dress we’ve seen already. At first I thought I was confusing it with the dress Swinton wore last week, but I think someone else wore it in a different color. Fellow kittens, am I missing something?

  • 3boysful

The off-center halter gowns make me laugh–looks like someone on prom night got caught and had to hastily re-dress!

  • Sarah Thomas

Remind me again why we all stopped dressing up like this all the time?

  • Emily Guillory

I don’t know why I love that 2nd last gown…but I do.  It just makes me happy to look at it :)

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/UTGALURO3K2NWLDN2A3SWHGMRA Lindsay

      Me too!

    • Spicytomato1

I can see why…it’s got a charming retro vibe to it.

i like the overall collection.  i think you are right milaxx but god help me if i could remember yesterday :)

  • SpcilK

    Oscar, I adore you.

  • EditKitten

    Love all of it!

  • Joanna Schuth

    Droooooool.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=610791985 Aniela Marie Perry

Sigh. Love. I especially like the pieces with the varying sizes of gingham print.

  • Kolo_Ol

    j’adore!

  • Sara__B

    What, no yellow?

I really enjoyed the clear, bright colors, and now I’m heading back for a second look, to find my favorite pieces.

  • Amy Ellinger

Love all the day dresses in those vibrant, wonderful colours!  Sadly, the gowns are “meh”- feel like i’ve seen them before.

  • dramamajor

Not a single look here that I don’t love!

Has there ever been a bad Oscar de la Renta collection? Ever?

  • marilyn

Beautifully done.  Iam not sure about the black & white check pantsuit, since the pants are too tight and fitted.  However, for all of them, the pieces would be spectacular to mix with other things.  Kudos!

  • altalinda

Love the blues.  The green is hideous.

  • giiiirrrr

Cohesive it ain’t.  Weren’t we done with cobalt?   Please?  The greens, purples, and reds are *really* fun, although there’s a fine and dangerous line between ombre and tie dye.  The black and whites are cute but desperately need colorful shoes and/or accessories.  Ballgowns, except for the gingham, are a snooze.

  • filmcricket

    Death to peplums! Otherwise: LOVE!

  • http://twitter.com/AShinyOConnor A Shiny O’Connor

I want Kate Middleton to wear ODLR so bad (not wear it badly, I just want her to wear more colour and/ or print).

I am totally going to make myself a baseball shirt with sequin sleeves during my next craft weekend!!

    • SouthernGirlRena

Pretty sure you could pull it off for less that $2490 ;)

  • lifetime_student

    Simply lovely!

  • http://www.filmsbyneptune.com/ Dani Colman

I’ll take one of everything except that awful picnic-blanket skirt.  Where do I sign?

  • JennaMarieS

Cannot wait for some ladystars to wear this stuff on the RC!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3JSTXMWWVZN2QNP2UEKJMTWD7U Isabel

6th row – purple, green & yellow – can’t wear anytime in New Orleans. Mardi Gras colors. Would be mocked

  • Gorengirl

Beautiful, would love to have most of these pieces… Alas, Im poor….

  • guest2visits

I think everything here is kind of wonderful; colors, prints, all.  Hope to see lots of these flattering styles on all the beautiful people.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Julie-Chase/731391326 Julie Chase

The short red gingham dress! I want! Love all of the colors.

  • http://twitter.com/lenabena_ Elena

A lot of Oscar de le Renta reminds me of what a rich grandma would wear (maybe that’s the intent?), but there are some gorgeous pieces here.

  • quiltrx

Love it all–beautiful and happy-looking.  I especially like the super-sized bias gingham looks.

  • Sophie Collier

I’m going to predict KStew in that silver gown at some event in the future.

  • MarissaLG

I LOVE about half of these. The other half get a big meh.

  • jilly_d

    LOVE

  • Puckndc

Nobody flatters women better than Oscar!!

  • travelingcat

Love this collection! I enjoy mentally picking one purchase per row and envisioning where I would wear each ensemble… *sigh*

  • BradWatson

Ahh, that’s what Resort looks like when executed by someone who can sew. I get it now.

  • TSkot

The old guy’s still got it, even at 79; just about as good as it gets.

  • http://twitter.com/Nancer Nancer

    I. Love. This.

  • EEKstl

Man, he just GETS it, doesn’t he?

  • janetjb

Love all of the color, it’s all so very beautiful.

  • http://profiles.google.com/sara.e.munoz Sara Munoz

The purply one with the peplum (BTW having them arranged by color really helps!) is gorgeous. I want to see that on the RC. But on who?? Julianne Moore keeps jumping out at me, but…

  • TheOriginalLulu

That first dress is simply stunning. I’m crazy about the first two red and white dresses and a few of those green dresses are adorable.
I love too many of these looks to list, but what I always love about Oscar is even if it’s not my taste, I can’t say that it wouldn’t look amazing on the right person. No matter where he goes with his designs, he always seems to remember that ultimately, women want to wear clothes that are flattering and make them feel beautiful.

The explosion of color here is awesome. I’m finding a few of these pieces have a Belinda Carlisle circa 1984 feel to them, like the black and white plaid suit in the first row and the royal blue and white plaid skirt with the solid royal top in the 4th row. Even the green-sleeved baseball jersey with the long plaid skirt is something she would do. Not that she wore plaid all the time, but these looks are certainly similar to what she used to wear.

  • lessax3

A few pieces are hard to look at, but most of these are gorgeous.

  • Merridith Kristoffersen

    So beautiful!

  • H3ff

I can see SWINTON in each of the suits.

  • http://twitter.com/jessicapippin Jessica Pippin

Give all of it to me! Gorgeous.

Betty Draper would love this collection.

  • Sunshine16

    OOH!  One of each please!

I’m onboard with the rich emerald green color.  Nice.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

that green is mine, all mine.  and i’ll take some emeralds to go with it.

  • Warmheartedgirl Seattle

Lovely.  I especially like the red section.  Thanks, TLo!

  • NCDFan

    Love the color!

  • Louise Bryan

    Gorgeous!!

  • DesertDweller79

I love the greens!  This collection is beautiful!  I love almost all of it.  Oh, I wish I were rich!

  • fursa_saida

I don’t usually go for Oscar, but I really like this collection–particularly the blue bit.

  • boomchicabowwow

Someone please send me that emerald green pants suite POSTHASTE!
