Krysten Ritter in Monique Lhuillier

Posted on May 15, 2012

Darlings, pity the poor celebrity in the throes of pole-dancing for their latest project. Not only must one constantly attend marketing events that have nothing to do with oneself and stand around acting like one wants to be there…

Krysten Ritter attends Swatch Art Rules Competition in LA in a Monique Lhuilier dress paired with shoes by Zara and Judith Leiber jewelry.

…but sometimes one must also force oneself to wear the item being marketed, regardless of whether or not it goes with one’s outfit. It’s enough to make one very frustrated.

Krysten, we feel ya. Here you have this adorable little disco-sassy dress and you have to slap a big ol’ Swatch on as if you were a tween girl in 1992. We’re so sorry for your pain, dear.

The shoes, however, are all on you. They’d go great with skinny pants or even formal shorts, but they’re too heavy for this look. Perhaps you were trying to offset the gigantic hunk of colored plastic on your wrist.

TPTB are trying so hard to make this girl happen.

      • Hillary Schuster

        She’s awesome. TPTB are right.

    • foodycatAlicia

Oh dear. There are some really nice Swatches, but this one is, I suppose, so very Swatchy because of the event. What a shame. Purple & turquoise is one of my favourite combinations, but I think I would have preferred turquoise shoes and getting a lackey to carry the lipstick.

    • Sobaika

I want to steal her clutch.

      She can keep the Swatch.

      • kimmeister

My name means gold too!  (minus the -meister).  I second your other thoughts as well.

    • Beth G

I didn’t realize they still made Swatches.  Wow…. I need to go dig out my Swatch shirt from ’88.  I knew there was a reason I didn’t get rid of that thing.

    • Pants_are_a_must

Not sold on the dress. What is going ON in the upper half? Why does she look like she’s trapped in sparkly upper torso body cast?

      • charlotte

Doesn’t it look a bit like a longer figure skating dress? It made me think of Moira Kelly in “The Cutting Edge”. The movie is from 1992, so that watch would fit right in.

    • Hillary Schuster

I don’t mind the shoes with this dress – could be better but not overly offensive.

And I love Krysten Ritter. The B—- in Apt 23 has a TON of potential.

      • Nelliebelle1197

I like that she is wearing $90 shoes.

    • Laurie Bergman

She needs the Swatch to tell her it’s time to head out to Danceteria!

    • hughman

A Judith Leiber pencil box would have been my schoolboy gay dream come true.

      • Nelliebelle1197

         OMG, you are awesome.

    • Julie Chase

I would pull a Damian from Mean Girls and steal that purse so fast.

    • SewingSiren

I love the dress on her. The swatch doesn’t really bug me. Don’t they have any with glittery bands though? Maybe a whole arm full? (kid)

    • Amy Watts

Those shoes read “sassy grandma” to me – send them over to Heigl.

    • SpcilK

So sad and so bad at the same time.

    • Lina_bee

Oh man, swatches were all the rage Christmas 1984-86…when I was a tween. *g*

I do rather like this dress. It’s very flapper, which I tend to enjoy. The only trouble is that suspicious horizontal line across her hips. Why does the light catch there but NOT also at her bustline? That’s very odd.

The shoes are definitely a mismatch and the bag should be fuchsia, but on the whole this is fine. Swatch excepted.

    • Fordzo

I didn’t even know that Swatches were still being made.

      • Heather

I have a really cute Swatch that I got at duty free in Charles de Gaulle airport. It’s small and stainless, with a pink face. I get lots of compliments on it. It’s kinda like Benetton I guess – always surprised to see it but they can have nice stuff.

    • VeryClaire

Did you just say FORMAL SHORTS?

      • Fordzo

        What’s next?  Skorts?

    • Amy Ellinger

Ever since “breaking Bad” I cannot have anything but love for Ms. Jane here.  I can ignore the watch since its out of obligation, and the shoes could be worse. The dress and clutch are fabulous enough to overcome the weirdies.

    • Judy_J

Dress and clutch are fabulous, and fabulous together!  Shoes are great, too, but not with this dress.  I’m not even looking at the watch.

    • Willis Cramer Kliefoth

the length on that dress is the worst (or maybe it’s the way the sequins catch the light around the hips…ruins an otherwise fab dress). And would anyone really have noticed if she left the swatch in the car??????

    • suzq

But we all crave that clutch.  Amirite?

    • mozzer0906

the dress is fab, ruined by the shoes and the swatch.

    • WordyDoodles

I had stretchy strap shoes like that from Payless back in the day. But this is just my own bias– I’m against super strappy shoes anyway.

    • Susi R

I like the dress but hate everything else.

    • How to Faint

At least the clutch is perfect.

    • WendyD

      LOVE the dress.
      Indifferent to the shoes.
      Hate the watch.

    • Ass Kicking Adviser

I love this dress though. Love.

    • Nariya

Looks like a mediocre Rooney Mara costume from the waist up. Poor girl.

    • Vanessak69

Honestly, I barely noticed the swatch. I’m a fan of giant watches. I think this could be because I need bifocals though.

I love the way the purse picks up the turquoise in the dress. Also digging her new show.

    • EEKstl

Love huge watches so I actually don’t hate it, shoes are cute but agree too casual and heavy for this dress.  The real infraction here is the nails: Pedi is the WRONG WRONG WRONG color for this palatte and would it kill her to slap some polish on her fingernails?

    • unbornfawn

Love the dress on her. The shoes, oh, god, no. I’ll forgive the swatch considering the venue.

    • MilaXX

I think the watch goes better with the outfit than those shoes do. Those shoes are for jeans, not this dress.

    • mrspotts66

love the clutch, the dress and the bangs.

    • Gabriella M

      The purse, however, is perfect.

    • guest2visits

Nice to see her in something not borderline precious/twee.  I agree that the shoes should have been a bit nicer, more
sophisticated (not stretch bands anyway).  Still pretty.

    • Lisa

Love the dress, love the clutch.  The shoes are waaaaay too 1995 Payless for this look.

    • JuliaInBlack

Not only are they still making Swatches, they are also making some semi-decent Swatch jewelry:

I know this because I have a husband who suffers from both a watch fetish and a scorching case of 80s nostalgia.

    • girliecue

Designer or not, I am opposed to that elastic-fabric on any pair of shoes. It just looks cheap.

    • lonepear

Forget the watch; I want the dress.

    • Lisa_Cop

Love the way the clutch picks up the blue in the dress. But the shoes are wrong and that Swatch has to go.

    • bluefish

The cut of the dress — the dropped waist — make her look stumpy.  And that’s a sad sequin color.  Depressing.

    • Mori Clark

i really thought this was rooney mara for a second, and then for a while, and then i got confused and was like ‘but its the exact same hair!’. audreybot v2.0, but with not as chic clothes.

    • Ms JJ

I’m so bored by this. In other news, she’d make the perfect Veronica from the Archie comics.

    • RzYoung

      god I hate watches!

    • Renaissance_Man_ATL

The dress and clutch are FAB!  That’s all tho.. LUV her!

    • sleah_in_norcal

oooo sparkly, purple and turquoise, i love it!  ditch the shoes for some sparkly sandals, and when no one’s looking, take that swatch off and put it in your fabulous clutch.  then wear it later with some tight jeans.
